Solid food, quick service, chill setting... cost too much for what you get. I'd for sure get it again but the pricing was just high in my opinion for the amount of brisket on the sando or the 1/2 pound of brisket. No real complaints, most places cost a lot now.

Crazy good BBQ, super fast service, lots of seating in the pod, order-at-kiosk. What's not to like? Next time I'm looking for some BBQ I know where to go!

The meats (we had sliced brisket and pork spareribs) are properly cooked, tender and moist. But the overwhelming flavor profile is sugar--especially the ribs. Not to my liking. Almost seemed like he reached for the salt but got sugar by mistake. In addition, the potato salad dressing was just strong yellow mustard. The coleslaw was okay. And the BBQ sauce was not normal. Three out of four had major fruit things going on. I need my vinegar and chile peppers. Won't be back. At least the music at the Prost pod was good (early Velvet Underground and Them).

So I've been here a few times over the last couple of years, and I gotta say that it's progressively gotten better versus the first time. Hence why I never reviewed this place with the first visit. Here's the latest with Matt's BBQ: = Location | Parking = Along the mighty Mississippi Ave, and within a food pod corner of Skidmore, you will find Matt's BBQ along with other tasty carts. I didn't notice any Parking Kitty signs along the street, but did notice bus stops, 30 minute, and 2 hour parking signs. So be mindful of where you park. = The Q = Previous orders... A late afternoon visit and ate at the patio: ~ Chopped Brisket Sandwich ($13.00) and a NC Style Pulled Pork Sandwich ($12.00) with Potato Salad (1/2 pint $3.50). Messy at first, but what pulled pork or brisket sandwich isn't? Maybe it's the slaw. I'm picky about this and don't necessarily like the slaw juices soaking up the bread. But still, the meat in itself was smokey and flavorful. Would I order these again? Probably, but it's the "I need a fork" situation. As for the potato salad, I'll just say their's definitely is a lot of chunky potato cuts, and drier than I expected. More recent order... Got there right when they opened and was the first customer that ordered: ~ Brisket Cuts and Pulled Pork, with two Sides Combo Plate! This time with the sides, I went with the Pinto Beans (1/2 Pint) and Queso Mac and Cheese (+$0.50). Total for the combo $36.50. Now this I took home. I actually raced to get home to eat it right away too. When I got home, the meat cooled, so I threw it in the oven for a few minutes to warm it all up. And maaaan, I gotta tell ya! Both the fatty and lean brisket slices were SPOT ON with smokiness, smoke ring, smell, and taste! So tender, so good, so savory! The pulled pork as well, you can smell the smokiness and it was just greasy fatty goodness! As for the pinto beans, I liked it. They went well with everything really. The queso mac'n'cheese was also tasty. So would I order this combo again? Highly likely! I enjoyed it! = Service and Overall = I can't say that I've interacted with the guys working there, but I haven't had any negative ordering experiences either. Overall to me, their Q stands out versus others in the area, but especially after my last visit. If anything, I'd just recommend going there right when they open. Right when the Q is ready to be served ;) That's how it's done son!

Overall I would say Matt's BBQ was solid Texas style bbq. The food cart picnic tables had a good vibe and turned over quickly. Super nice on a sunny pdx fall day! We had the brisket burnt ends, spare ribs, potato salad and queso mac & cheese. The pickled veg and mac and cheese were my favorite bites. I felt like the burnt ends even though they were tasty had too much bbq sauce and the ribs were a bit tough. Portion size on everything was surprisingly huge.

This food truck bbq meal tastes just as good as any non food truck. We shared ribs, a pulled pork sandwich, Mac n cheese. There was also unlimited use to sauces, bbq, spicy, mustard. Definitely try them all, the ribs were my highlight as they completely fell off the bone

It's not much of a secret that Matt knows his BBQ. Matt has learned the trait to a T. There isn't too many elite BBQ options in Portland, but here's one of them without a doubt. Maybe the best? This place could thrive anywhere in the country. It's legit legit. Between Matt's BBQ Tacos and Matt's BBQ, I've tried a little of everything. There are no misses when it comes to the protein options. Even the BBQ sauces were above and behind. Absolutely terrible potato salad though. No one is coming for that though. Matt's is as good as advertised. (4.8 Stars)

Can I get Matt to the front of the line pleeeaasseeee!!! Matt, if you're in the kitchen friend, hello how are you? Lol I've been mad that every time I come to your place of establishment you're always sold out but today!!!!!!!! Lol I understand why you're always sold out. The flavors, the smokiness, the beans, the potato salad, the sauces, the mannnnn!!!! Yess this is what barbecue is suppose to taste like. This is what food is suppose to taste like. And the cost of all this too??? Wow... amazing Matt you outdid yourself

This entire food pod is a whole vibe. Me and a friend came here two days in a row during our trip to Portland. On our first visit, I connected with a food truck owner from my home state, and my friend and I also met a couple visiting from Florida. We ended up talking to that couple for close to three hours; they had ordered brisket from Matt's BBQ and insisted that we have some. My friend and I had a few small bites, and we were both so completely blown away by those samples that we came back for dinner the next day. I ordered chopped brisket for my meal and my friend ordered sliced brisket. Sho' nuff, Matt's BBQ handily delivered on flavor and quality once again the next day, and every single thing on my barbecue tray was absolutely delicious! This was honestly the best brisket I've had since my first trip to Austin, TX almost eight years ago. If it matters to you, Matt's BBQ is one of the restaurants that Phil Rosenthal ate at during the Portland episode of Somebody Feed Phil.

Best pork spare ribs ever!! This is by far my favorite pork ribs I have ever tried among all the bbq. It's not overly chewy; it's tender, falling of the bone, has enough cartilage and has a dry semi-crispy outer skin. Their queso Mac and cheese is also very delicious. It's very cheesy, a little liquidy and has a bit of spicy kick. Cole slaw is refreshing as a nice side to pair with the meats.

    Tammy N.

It's only okay. I let my friends took the bbq and the 2 sides home. I just wanted to give Matt's a try but I won't return!

Ambiance: 6/10 it's a food truck amongst other food trucks at a bar. It's cool but nothing to write home about. Service: 8/10 the cooks and food distributor were really nice dudes and helpful at choosing what to pick. Food: 6.5/10 chopped brisket sando: 6.5/10 it was good but didn't wow me. the brioche bun was good. Pickled onions were a nice touch for texture, color and acidity. Coleslaw was more texture and offered a creamy sauce but wasn't great. Beef was good enough to want to go back to try whole brisket and other meat but i wouldn't order this dish again Coleslaw: 5/10 this was just average coleslaw. I wouldn't recommend getting a side.

Chopped brisket, Mac, beans, cole slaw, and a couple slices of potato bread (recommended to make best bites).

Matt's is probably best bbq in Portland. Their bbq taco places are also one of my all time favs. Went on Friday night and the outdoor food pod shared seating was packed, however, Matt's is still super fast and food is EXCELLENT. Honestly when places are that busy I usually wouldn't bother, but Matt's is on point and still super duper fast and good even when busy. Order at a screen kiosk, which I like but might be annoying to some. I'm always in favor of a cart with outdoor seating for proper summer Portland ambiance?

Most likely. Either that or there won't be a lot of selections.. It's a very popular place.

After reading the great reviews, I'd wanted to get over there, and I'm glad I finally did. The ribs were perfect, the pulled pork was as good as I've ever had. When the brisket is solid but the least exciting bite, you've got a great platter. The mac and cheese side is excellent. I loved the slaw, though I'd skip it next time due to more onion than I'm cool with. Sauces are okay, but would love a spicy option. Honestly, none of the meat begged for extra sauce, I just love sauce. Seating was limited and the place is pretty small, so probably hit and miss during peak hours. Loved the food. Will return.

Heads up--this isn't a fancy or romantic date-night type of place, but trust me, the food more than makes up for it. We ordered the pastrami brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and spicy sausage--all delicious. The spicy macaroni and cheese? Oh baby. Probably the best spicy mac & cheese I've ever had. We also had the stew (delicious), and even the baked beans -- which I normally don't like -- were delicious. And of course, the ribs were tender, smoky, and delicious too. The whole place smells like real deal slow-smoked barbecue, and every bite proved it. A delightfully delicious spot from start to finish. We'll definitely be back!

IMO. This BBQ is Kansas City style, so the sauce is a bit sweeter. We got the brisket, the chicken wings, and sides. We couldn't decide if on the sauce for the wings, so we got all 3 on the side. The Alabama white sauce was A+ The brisket was perfectly tender. It had great flavor and marbling. The wings are full wings with the drummette attached. That's the way to do it! They are smoked and then fried. They got the crisp just right. Let's talk about sides! We got the collard greens, coleslaw, and baked beans. They were all FANTASTIC! The coleslaw is a vinegar coleslaw, which I love. It wasn't the sweet mayonnaise style that most people don't enjoy. It was so good! The collard greens were perfectly flavored and tender! I couldn't have done better myself. The beans were sweet but also savory. Not super sweet, which makes me happy. Very well balanced. The server was super friendly and nice. She explained everything to us and made sure we were happy. They have a bar with various beers. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Very casual but perfect for BBQ.
