Great hole in the wall. Small menu, food cooked right in front of you. Fun atmosphere and great burger joint. 10/10 would eat there again
Been following them on insta so when we visited Portland we knew we had to make a stop !!! What a smashing good burger ! We went with the burger of the month combo : the cowboy - homemade bbq sauce,cheese, onion rings, bacon and pickles. Also couldn't leave without some cheese curds . Everything was well seasoned and delicious. The only thing was the portion of ranch , either get smaller ramekins or fill them up . The ranch was definitely good !!!
If you're in the mood for a really good greasy smash burger, this is the place! It's a little hard to find but definitely worth it. The burger itself was not dried out and was super tasty. The curly fries were seasoned really well and nice and crispy. We will definitely be back.
A fantastic smash burger spot across the water on Portland's east side. The inside is a cozy diner-style space that's clean and comfortable, and the staff were incredibly friendly. We came with a group of 10, and the service was impressively fast, they even had a table reserved for us. The food was on another level. I had the Crab Rangoon Burger (their burger of the month), and it was incredible with the perfect balance of savory beef and rich crab. The curly fries were perfectly crispy, and the ranch was a solid 10/10.
I saw this place on insta so took a solo lunch date, ordered the single smash, cheese curds, curly fries, and olive oil & sea salt malt. The gal working the front taking my order really lacked personality, and the place was very potent with oil smell, like you're going to smell like it when you leave. 3 tables in the back to sit at or chairs lined up next to eachother for a "bar" like seating which is great for solo and with one other person. Otherwise, food came out fast and steaming hot! The burger lacked seasoning tremendously, not very much flavor with the sauce either, just tasted like meat so I ate maybe half. The cheese curds and curly fries were so good!! Their ranch is THE BEST. Music was like dance/trance which I enjoyed as I like that kind of music. The olive oil malt was deeeeeelish too. I don't think I'll be back, but if in the area I'd get some curds to go.

Being a native upper midwesterner this made me feel right at home. We ordered at the register (order #1... score!!!), and grabbed a table in the back. The music was rocking and the smell coming off the grills was making me soooo hungry! The food was out fast and it was fantastic! We each had a double and they were all good! The smash on the burger was spot on! The Maillard reaction was perfect! The bun was soft and fresh and the pickles had a great flavor. I got a side of the cheese curds and they were everything you would hope for! The batter was a nice golden brown and the cheese had a good pull to it! Great food, great service! Take the time to find Wolf's Head, it is worth a visit!!!
Craving a smash burger, this place came up with good reviews. We arrived around 11:30am am parked around the corner from the restaurant. The restaurant was empty and the woman behind the counter welcomed us in. The restaurant was long and narrow with the front area (where you order and wait for to go orders) then walk down the hall past the kitchen to a few tables to eat at. The woman was helpful and present. We ordered the double cheeseburger and curly fries to go. We were home and eating in 15 minutes. The burger was exactly what I was hoping for - juicy, crisp pieces and a good amount of cheese and dressing. The fries were well seasoned but could have been crispier. We'll definitely return
Finally got a chance to check out Wolf's Head Burger. If you're looking for a spot that offers fantastic, reasonably priced smash burgers.. this is the place. The small menu is a lifesaver for anyone prone to decision paralysis. The burger itself is great: the soft bun is filling, and the patty has that perfect, savory flavor with just the right amount of grease oozing out of your fresh, made to order meal. They only offer seasoned curly fries, but it's a generous serving that easily feeds two people. Just a few things to note: seating is small and limited on busy days, and be prepared to smell like burgers if you dine in!

The smash burgers were nice and Lacey thin with crispy edges.. the American cheese just oozed, the bun was nice and soft. For the sides, I usually would prefer a nice in shoe string french fry but I found a whole new level of delicious with these nice hot crispy and gooey cheese curds. To top it all off having that bolt milkshake just really tight everything together! Service was great and fast we were served within 10 to 15 minutes of arriving. Ambience remind you of an old diner in the Midwest.! if you're looking for a nice quick smash burger with flashback to childhood a milkshake this is where you wanna go!
A lowkey smash burger spot just across the water on the Eastside. Inside is small but cozy, classic diner vibe. Tables can be hard to come by during busy hours though. Staffs were very friendly despite being super busy. I enjoyed their Burger Week burger with very crispy and thin patty and unique Pretzel Chili Crisp. Curly Fries were nice and crispy as well. Would be back for the Malt Shakes and Cheese Curds next.

Seriously great burger. I would have never found this place without someone telling me where it is. Even so, took me a second to find the entrance. It was empty when I got there, got a table fine, and ate there no problem. Be careful of the train tracks outside. One of my favorite burgers in town.
The area itself isn't packed so thankfully you'll find parking. Upon entering, we were both side eyed for a bit before being greeted. Kinda awkward but hey, I understand the sentiment behind customers arriving while you're having a conversation clearly the cashier was having a conversation with another person and I guess we interrupted. Talking to them felt like we were such a bother tbh. We were treated with contempt and were spoken to condescendingly. I wasn't there for goodservice though since we were both just really hungry. The food itself? Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend it. I've been to multiple smash burger spots and this one is definitely in the top 3. The prices here are a tad higher than anticipated but honestly, for the experience it's worth it. The restaurant itself is very quaint and inviting. I like the atmosphere it provides -- especially sitting by the windows :) overall, great food with lousy service. Shoutout to the cook/cooks though -- made me wish I bought a second smash burger to go read more
My son and I were looking for a burger spot in downtown Portland. Wolfs Head was one of the many burger spots that we have been looking forward to try. They did not disappoint, under neath the Hawthorne bridge across the railroad tracks you will find a very good smash burger joint. We had a double burger and a chili cheese burger with curly fries and two drinks. The dining area is an L-shaped space with barstool seating and a few tables that face an open kitchen. The staff is friendly and the food prep was very quick. They have a variety of burger options. I enjoyed the food and the decor of the location. read more

We stopped by here in the late afternoon after working up an appetite on a bike ride. It was a little hard to tell if they were open-the door is a cage-like metal material and it almost looked closed. But we were in luck and there was a lull in business so we had the place to ourselves. The guy at the counter where you order patiently answered our questions about the offerings on the board behind him. Basically they have smash burgers (singles or doubles) with all the good stuff like cheese, caramelized onions, etc. I paid $1.00 extra for lettuce & tomato and my husband added lettuce & a fried egg to his. We made one order a combo with curly fries and a chocolate malt. The burgers were so flavorful! The shake was thick and had lots of malt flavor, which I loved. The fries were great too. We'll be back! You should try it too! read more
They have perfected the smash burger- juicy, salty, and delicious. The curly fries will satisfy any curly fry lover. It's a small place under an overpass next to train tracks. It's loud when a train rolls through and there isn't a lot of seating. I only interacted with the young lady taking orders. She perfectly embodied the Portland youth persona, making it seem like my question--"What's the difference between the regular and deluxe burger?"--was an inconvenience. I won't mark them down for the 47-second interaction with her. The burger is great. I will be back. read more
Ordered a double combo with cheese curds & the malt of the month which was blackberry, my friend got the single combo with curly fries & the salted caramel malt. Burgers were delicious, curly fries were yummy as well but the star of the show were those fried cheese curds!! They were to die for! The malt shakes were okay. They had a bit of a sour taste which I didn't enjoy. They were nice & thick tho as a malt should be! Service was great, cashier greeted us when we came in & helped answer the questions we had & was super friendly. Place is in a bit of a weird place. We weren't sure if we were in the right place or where to go once we parked but we figured it out. It's the door at the very end with the staircase. Decor in the front is pretty cool. A cabin type of vibe. The back with the seating has a view of the grill/kitchen with a small bar & a few tables. Overall, I enjoyed this place. The burgers were good. But the reason I will be back is for those fried cheese curds! read more
The burgers and malts here are sooo good especially on a hot day! The monthly specials are great and very unique, and right now they have a blackberry malt on the menu and it was fruity and refreshing! The food always comes out super fast. read more

This place was amazing. Was there with a clan of 5 and we got the Wolf special which came with 6 burgers and 6 fries. It was excellent. All was great! Added two malts for good measure and those were thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant is located in an interesting spot but despite that it was clean and safe. The bathrooms were surprisingly spotless. 100% would definitely go back. read more

Decent burger. It's tasty and big and the combo is very decently priced. The service was fast and the place was very small, so we were served quickly. It's a good, greasy, filling burger, but I've also had better burgers. For the price I paid I'm pretty satisfied though! read more

Order: Double Combo w/ IBC Cream soda Pros: This was a good damn burger!!! Probably the best burger I have actually had in Portland. They served my burger straight off the grill and it had steam coming right of the burger! The ingredients were fresh!!! The tomato was cored and halved. I really get sick of places not coring their tomatoes and I bight into a pit. Their pickles they chose to use was A1! I love their choice of pickle. The bread bun was good and light. The sauce used was good. The patties were great. They could use a tad but more salt and pepper but overall it was still good. Curly frys were amazing and seasoned extremely well. Not to much not to little. Cons: n/a Side Note: Looks can be deciving. I was driving through the janky alley to grt to this place and I was a lilttpe skeptical of the outside appearance (they cant control that). However, once inside, the place is airy and clean. The food was delicious!! Enough said!! The burgers were to die for, great quality meat and ingredients you can smell the purity in it all!! The workers were friendly and very helpful when ordering our food. The chili cheese fries were amazing and would just order the chili by itself that's how good it is. Overall 100/100 experience if you want the best burger ever. read more

First impression wasn't great--when we walked in, the person at the front didn't really say anything and just kind of stared at us. Her responses were super short, so it felt a little awkward right off the bat. We ordered two burgers, fries, a milkshake, and a soda--it came out to around $40. The food looked really good when it came out, and I've gotta say, the Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake was delicious. The fries were okay, nothing crazy, but not bad either. The burgers were the biggest letdown. For $12 each, I was expecting way more flavor. I ended up using a bunch of ketchup and mustard just to make it more enjoyable. Definitely wouldn't call it the "best smash burger in town" like some people have said, but the shakes are solid. The place was pretty empty and quiet when we were there. The best food doesn't need to be pretentious or too fancy. It just needs to be cooked with some soul and some quality ingredients. Everything about Wolf's Head is simple, and simply amazing! It's a bit off the beaten path but service was friendly and the food came out quick. It's a small space and doesn't try to be all hipster. The burgers were juicy, fries were crispy, and the Malts are killer!! read more
