The amazing fact about this place is that it is a dedicated gluten-free facility. I saw a few reviews where people got mad when they were prohibited from having gluten items inside. As someone with an intolerance and not an allergy, I can understand why this is a problem. The gluten-free beer is also quality. I like the fact I can make my own flight at $3 for a 4-oz pour. I wanted to try all of them, but I had to drive, so I settled on four of them to sample. All of them hit my palate and made me want even more. Which I did buy some to go and enjoy at home. I did not order any food but I will say that everything looked and smelled delicious. This was a beer budget outing only this time. Next time I plan to order some food as well. The parking is hit or miss in this area, but it was probably easier than most days as it was a holiday weekend and a Sunday. read more

Since realizing that I'm extremely gluten intolerant, the hardest aspect has been how much I've truly missed drinking delicious local craft beers. Groundbreaker has filled the gap and then some. I'm not an IPA guy, so between Czechia Later, Louise, Inclusion, and 99 light I'm always a very happy camper. We typically get Jesse as a bartender. He's always super friendly and courteous. Salvi PDX is also very much so part of the full experience. Their piping hot chicken tenders, French fries, and house made hot sauce is such a treat! We decided to try out Ground Breaker Brewing as they specialize in gluten free beers. They're across the street from Alter Ego Cider. We dropped in on a slow Friday afternoon (around 3:45pm). Go up to the bar to order drinks but you order food (and pay) on your phone. 9 gluten free beers on tap. Prices were $2.00 USD (4oz) to $6.50 USD (12oz). They also serve Salvadorean food, Salvi, out of their kitchen. - Flight ($8.00 USD for 4) - dark ale on nitro, Portland to Perth pils, olallie ale and amber lager. None of the beer flavours stood out. Basic, light, one dimensional notes. Doesn't beat the gluten free beers we've had at Heathen's Brewing (in Calgary). - Pupusita ($3.75 USD) - they had a buy one, get one free deal when we went. We opted for the I Dream of Cheese: Queso (cheese and bell pepper) and Salvi OG: Chicharron con queso (pork and cheese). It came with salsa (smooth, nicely balanced) and curtido (bland). Ah, another gluten free brewery here in Portland! I have to say that I do like going to these gluten free breweries as the beer doesn't feel so weighted on my stomach sometimes. Portland breweries definitely does their gluten beer well and Ground Breaker is no exception. For this brewery I got their Dark Ale on Nitro. It was excellent with it's dark,smooth and yeasty complexity but at the same time was light once it all went down. I bought one of their IPA'S that was in the can and took home for Steve to try. That one was good too but my favorite was that Nitro Dark Ale. read more

Loved the service and was amazed by the place being 100% GLUTEN FREE, what a great vacation find!!! My friends got the beer sampler but were not wowed by the beer; they ended up only liking the one they thought that they wouldn't like, and they didn't finish the others. We ordered these interesting round meat-filled sandwiches, and ended up living off them for a few days on our road trip, the portions were so generous! They have decent variety of different types of beers to choose from and the few we had were all quite good. I especially enjoyed their seasonal Spring brew, Carrot Cake Cream Ale. The guy working the taps was very nice, too, and was happy to answer questions or provide a sample. The place is on the small side, but a good vibe with great tunes playing. Their patio is a handful of picnic tables out front on the sidewalk. Street parking was easy to find in the semi-industrial area where they're located. read more

Appreciate the gluten free menu. Both the beer and food are good. Nice to be able to take the whole family.

My friend is gluten-intolerant, so she can't eat at most restaurants in this area. I wanted to make sure I found a spot that was doable for he both of us, and Yelping led me to this location. While it wasn't my most favorite restaurant, I think it was good for what it is, which is 100% gluten-free. That's right, their beers, ciders, food, etc are all gluten-free. I'm not sure if this is why, but I wasn't able to substitute the cod fish in the tacos for chicken. So be aware that you may not be able to do so. Also, be aware that many of their desserts have nuts or nut products in them. Notes-- The dishes are definitely higher than average, with the average price falling between $12-$16. Order: Tap Cider($6.50)-- It was different. This doesn't mean it was nasty, it just means it wasn't what I was used to. Chicken & Dumplings($16)-- A far cry from the typical creamy white colored soup you find in a can. I was seriously surprised at how great it tasted. Seasoned just right and the chicken was cooked well enough without being overdone. The dumping bits were tender and flavorful, so I saved them for last because of how much I liked them. Vanilla Ice cream Scoop($4)-- I'm not sure but I don't think this was your normal lactose filled ice cream. It tasted different than say something you'd get from Salt & Straw or even Safeway. Not bad, just different. Bob of our scoops came in one bowel, which I wasn't a fan of but it wasn't something entirely negative, just wanted to make this known to others who might order it. The first ever 100% fully gluten free brewery. Every drink and food item is completely gluten free and celiac friendly. I was SO excited to try Ground Breaker because I usually can never drink beer (and the gluten free beer options across the country are VERY limited). I did a flight of four (each taster is about $2). They were all absolutely delicious, I was in heaven! My absolute favorite was the Stump Breaker. The dark beer was so full of flavor. In Portland you've got the big breweries and their mega-pubs, and you've also got quaint little brewery spots like Ground Breaker. The cozy atmosphere is quite inviting, as is the service. There's something warm and friendly about the overall feel of the space. Ground Breaker is a gluten free spot, and that includes their brews. The food was good, however I felt the price-point was a bit high. Fifteen dollars for a burger and chips seems a little excessive, even if the ingredients are organic etc. On our visit we were smack in the middle of fresh hop season, so they had some fresh hop options. Checked this place out after a presentation at OMSI on a Sunday. Very chill, clearly a local hangout. Normally, when I imbibe at a brewpub, I am usually faced with one sad token gluten free beer choice among very sweet ciders. Here, not so. It was nice to be at a brewery and know that everything is 100% gluten free. They had a range of beers from IPAs to porters. Some were from guest breweries like Bierly in McMinville. As someone who is Gluten-Tolerant, I was nonplussed by all the beer here. But, I could see how they could be exciting for people that don't tolerate Gluten. So, keep it in mind. I had a small taster of 5, and the iPa no.5 was alright, as well as their Route 20- IPA. In all honesty, there were the ones that my taste buds could tolerate the best. I bought those two beers in bottles and cans to give to a friend. And, he was excited about them! The Dark Ale was slightly intriguing as well, but for someone who can tolerate her Gluten, I would prefer to go to another brewery instead. Also, when I happened to go, it was early afternoon during the week, and I sat up on the bar. And, I did not get the friendliest vibe from the barkeep and the staff. Maybe it was reflective, and they could tell I wasn't super-excited about the gf-beers? I'm gluten sensitive so I have been looking forward to trying this place Stopped by on a Thursday about 5pm. First off don't trust their online menu, they slightly change things daily. I was going to try the Ruben, not offered today Went with the Cubano, this comes with coleslaw. Wife tried the barbecue brisket sandwich. Food arrived and we were a little disappointed. Unfortunately the gluten free bread eater gets the short stick again. My Cubano had good flavor however about 5 bites later it's gone. This comes with extremely pedestrian coleslaw. Didn't care for the flavor. It's served room temperature meh. Wife's brisket sandwich had strips of brisket but again even smaller than my Cubano. This came with some potato chips, store bought I guess. Our two meals totaled $30 which isn't too expensive except I left hungry due to the gf portions. Don't think we will be back. read more

I love the concept. Dedicated gluten free kitchen and brewery. They even had a sign on the door asking patrons to not bring in gluten-y things. My dining partner was a beer fanatic before he had to go GF due to a blood disorder. This place was perfect for him. I'm not versed in beer speak, but the server recommended one based on the fact that he liked dark beers. It was apparently the last glass of it and the best brewed. I don't normally like beer, or drink at all for that matter, but I had a sip and it was surprisingly smooth, thick (?) and not bitter or had an after taste. Food was ok. Kind of skimpy for the price. I had a bowl of chicken with dumpling, and my partner had a Reuben. I wished there were more dumplings or if it came with bread or something. Service was meh. The person who took our drink order disappeared after dropping off the beer. It took awhile to flag someone down to help with our food order, as well as getting the check after our meal. Everything here is gluten free and AMAZING!!! The porter... oh yes, it's been so long since I've had beer. Gluten-free beer is not always great but the stuff is amazing! Yes, I will use that word over and over. Amazing amazing amazing! Delicious oysters on the half shell. And shrimp salad over toast that was so scrumptious. This place is so worth coming to. I would definitely get a taster of the beers so you can taste just how wonderful the variety is. Ground Breaker was great! We stopped in just for a couple of flights in between meals, so I can't comment much in the way of food. The dude has a gluten allergy so he never really gets to enjoy good beer, and since they are completely gluten free (food and all!) this was his heaven. He said the IPA No 5 is probably the best IPA he has had since becoming allergic to gluten, but raved about all the others as well. I thought all of mine were solid as well, but most enjoyed a carrot beer they had on a guest tap. Sounds super weird but was excellent. Love this place. The beer is so good and they are back to having food post pandemic. Weird open hours so not really convenient but worth it.

Dumped a bunch of silverware and napkins in the middle of the table for us to arrange. Poured two beers and both had at least 3 inches of head. One beer was poured well. I asked for a new bottle of water because one was yellow and cloudy and the other was totally clear. Waitress seemed irritated and got us a new bottle after telling us they're working on the water on the other side of the street. New bottle is less yellow but not cloudy. Food was good, but not great. I had the Reuben and it was a little dry but lots of meat. Pizza was okay. Lacked any interesting flavors although the ingredients sounded exciting. Everyone liked the Cubano! Lemon tart was good. Overall I had been waiting a long time to try this place and had high hopes since the gf community loves it... I'm sorry to say it was really disappointing overall. I'll probably try it again to give it another shot, but it wasn't fabulous food, the pours were bad (especially given it's a brewpub!), and the service was crap. Waitress was chatting with her coworkers more than serving even when we'd been waiting 15 minutes to put in our food order. No sugar came with my tea.
