Seriously one of my fav burger spots in PDX that I came here more than once! I'm a sucker for smash burgers so this place definitely hits the spot for me. Honestly after trying their peanut butter bacon burger here, it really got me more into sweet/savory dishes. I like how it's made to order and the crispy crust of the patty brings it together. The waffle fries are seasoned well and has a good crunch to it. Definitely recommend for your next burger craving!

Walking up to the business, there were at least 9 people, in a few different clumps, outside. I didn't know if they'd eaten, or were waiting. It ends up they were looking for another place to eat - not because of the quality of food, but instead the lack of adequate seating, and especially for larger groups. Ordering is at the front counter. One of the first things I want to make sure I say, is that all the employees were incredibly kind and patient. It's all crazy manic orders and trying to deliver them and deal with the turnover, but you wouldn't know that from how they treated us. The burger my son got was good. Not fantastic, but certainly tasty. The waffle fries? Insanely good. So good that my son and I turned to each other with wide eyes after our first bite.

The fries were quite good too with some kind of light seasoning on them that we both liked. I'm told my other kids how good it was and now they all want to try it. The only challenge is that they have a bunch of burgers and it can take a while to sort through them all. So I'd suggest previewing the menu in advance because it's hard to take it all in while you're in line. Also it's a big delicious messy burger plan accordingly...

Between the genuinely friendly hospitality and the flavor combinations, this spot hits it out of the park and is a must for sandwich lovers. Griddled Mortadella (5/5): An incredibly delicious sandwich that perfectly balances rich, salty, and savory flavors. It comes loaded with a generous portion of grilled mortadella and melted provolone cheese, perfectly moistened with a tangy mustard aioli. The fresh lettuce and bell peppers added a satisfying crunch to every bite. Chefwich - K-Town Steak Sandwich (5/5): A limited-time creation packed into a banh mi roll. It had a generous portion of perfectly tender and sweet bulgogi steak that pairs with their melted jack cheese. The gochujang mayo sauce had a subtle and sweet heat, while the fresh kimchi added crunch and slight acidity to balance the rich meat. Elote Tater Tots (5/5): Definitely a creative side dish. The tots were perfectly fried and topped elote style with cotija cheese, pairing well with the smoky chipotle mayo on the side. Logistics Tip: Street parking is surprisingly easy to find in the surrounding area, even on a busy weekend evening. The restaurant has a spacious layout with plenty of seating options both inside and outside. If you're a first-timer, don't hesitate to ask the staff for suggestions, as they're exceptionally warm, welcoming, and passionate about the menu.

Though, our food was made quickly and packed with care. Portions seemed good for the pricing! My manager and I got a variety of food to share. We ordered the Korean Pork Shoulder, Beeria Grilled Cheese, Lardo Fries, Hush Puppies, and Tater Tots. My pork shoulder sandwich was divine! The bread got pretty soggy, but there was a decent amount of tender, seasoned meat. The kimchi added spice and texture; I'd recommend it. The fries and tots were fine, nothing special in my opinion. The fries weren't too crispy, but the tots were. I enjoyed the hush puppies and found them pretty dense. My manager enjoyed her sandwich. If you're a sandwich lover, then I recommend trying Lardo. I can see why they're popular! Find them off SE Hawthorne Street.

So, when I walk into a BBQ joint I usually can just kind of feel how it is going to go. Frankly, I wasn't too impressed on my visit to Lawless when I walked in the door. That feeling only lasted until my food arrived. Now when I walk in, I feel so foolish for feeling that way that first time. I have tried about everything, and I could run off a list of the things you should try. But that would be my list, not yours. Everyone likes something different. What I can tell you is what they do better than any other BBQ joint I have been to in the Portland Metroplex. First is the brisket burnt ends; Lawless knows how to make a burnt end that is tender with a flavor that will keep you coming back often. Second is their chicken wings. I don't know where their pitmaster finds these prehistorically large wings from, but they are amazing and juicy. If you are a fan of lemon-pepper I highly suggest that rub, but none of them are bad. Third is the brisket. Worthy of central Texas BBQ praise. Everything else is above average, the ribs, pulled pork and sides are all amazing. You cannot go wrong at Lawless. And if I small voice says this might not be a great place when you walk in the for the first time; tell it to mind its own business and order the burnt ends and wings.

I got the Brisket, Burnt Ends, Potato Salad, and Mac N Cheese. Service was awesome, with plenty of seating around. The brisket was nice and tender and had great flavor, and the burnt ends had this glaze that paired with the meat really well! The sides were just ok in my opinion, as I would like them to be a little more flavorful. But not bad by any means. I didn't get a picture but the Banana Pudding was phenomenal. One of the best banana puddings I've ever had! I still talk about it to my friends. Overall I really think you should give Lawless a try, great bbq and great people.
