    Pork Belly Plate
    X D.

We're back at Chochu Local with a newbie! The two of us came on a sunny Sunday afternoon around noon. Church local still had some food left, which is great because they often sell out of here quick. The brother was manning the barbecue in the back and it looked like the owner had the day off which was really nice. They had two staff and they were getting orders done quickly. Even though they were out of the number of things and the Shrimp Things are now not on the menu, still absolutely worth coming. The food is really good! We ended up with the rib and chicken plate, which was perfect for two people to share. We got an extra sauce, which I highly recommend because it's plain delicious! Come here for a great food cart pod experience, plenty of seating, a nice beer menu, plenty of drinks, desserts, and it's dog friendly. There's parking to the south of the pods just off of Sandy between Friday bargains but it's very small and fills up fast.

I visited Chochu Local for dinner recently. The food cart pod that it was located in was nice. There were a lot of good food carts to choose from and a decent amount of tables. The service was very friendly. My boyfriend and I got two fiesta plates. One plate had the ribs and pork belly . The other plate had ribs and chicken. The pork belly ended up being the best meat in our opinion. It was crispy, moist, and tasty. The bbq sauce on the chicken was good. It was similar to teriyaki sauce. Ribs were blah unless you dipped them in them in the sauce. The salad was good. I liked the rice but I think it needed salt. Overall, it was a great experience and I'll have to come back to try some of their other food.

Not sure we've had enough to make the best review, but what we've experienced so far has been great. Everyone has been so friendly and the food we got was hot and delicious.

Fiesta Plate w potato salad for $15(?) GREAT PORTION! Sad I forgot to add the Chicken Kelaguen.

If you love meat and rice, you'll love this place. You can taste the love in the food. Don't forget the finadene sauce!!! Not sure if it is family owned but sure feels like it! Super nice and friendly folks running the cart and you can see your food is being freshly grilled on the side.

Ordered their chicken and pork belly combo with salad since they ran out the red rice. It tasted great with the grilled options. The combo is big enough to share. Great local following. Great service from staff. They have great sitting outdoor space and enjoy your meal.

Best Chamorro food!!! I'm a foodie and I love to eat. I'm originally from Guam now living in California and it was a must to try this place out because I love to see if some still have the culture in them. Well you see I gave them a 5 star because it was so deserved. Everything we got and more taste just like home. The flavor and the spices was perfect to the T. If you are from Guam and looking for a place to eat, look no further. The food is perfect and you won't regret it!!! PS, the empanadas are pikaaaaa

Wow so good. I've had Hawaiian bbq before but first time trying Guam food, similar I would say but a tad more BBQ-ey, and a bit more Filipino (lumpias). Also the rice is orange kinda Mexican style so more flavor. Their meats are ribs, pork belly & chicken. We went w/ the fiesta plate (2 meats) ribs and PB of course. Everything was succulent and w/ nice smoky flavor, grilled to order. They also had a tasty ponzu style sauce that complimented nicely for dipping the meat or drizzle on top. We also tried the Telaguen, a kind of cold spicy chicken salad which I made tacos w/ at home but I imagine would go well with their coconut milk flatbread. They also had some things that tasted like slightly spicy samosas which were good too. Located in the Rose City food cart pod off sandy.

Full of flavor and love! They're very friendly and will take time helping and explaining. Omg that chicken is so perfect and melts in your mouth. These flavors reminded us of childhood memories when we were little kids eating this exact marinated chicken - I don't know how they made it taste like that but it brought back memories!!

As an indigenous CHamoru who grew up on Guam, I miss home often. So, I make sure to support local CHamoru restaurants wherever I go. I've been to several over the years and can tell you that the food here is, hands down, the BEST I've had yet and I'll buy another plane ticket to have it again-it's really that good! The owner, Joy, is friendly and truly embodies our island spirit. Highly, highly recommend!

Pork belly is a winner, the sides are very good.

There's ample excellent options for "Island" food in Portland, this is a standout. On taste and definitely service, I much more favor Chochu than Grindz on NE Cully. The pork belly is succulent with a nice degree of char, the dipping sauce (albeit a small portion) compliments it very well. The rice and kimchi noodle salad are better than average. And like with most Island food venues the service is consistently friendly and chill.

The building is a very casual place, as you walk in the friendly staff greet you and ask you to take a seat wherever you like. We decided to sit in the backside of the building it is a very peaceful section by the kitchen, you can smell the amazing smokey scent of the bbq from there. The walls are covered black and white cowboy pictures. As someone mention in their review, parking is a little challenging but we found parking in the neighborhood within 5 min. The Menu is simple and to the point, one page is drinks the other page is the BBQ, We shared the Pit Boss Platter, you will find that it feeds 2-3, you get a 1/4 pound of brisket and pulled pork, 2 pork ribs, 1 link (very good size) cornbread and your choice of 2 sides, we choose the collard greens and the the green chile mac and cheese. Everything was amazing. It was plenty for the two of us that shared it, we actually took some of it home, I also tied in the pickles, the are served with pickled onions and jalapeños (yummy). The BBQ flavor was amazing, nice and smoky , great smoke rings, they table drop in three different sauces, a vinegar oil, a surprisingly tasty mustard sauce and their house bbq sauce, they are all great tasting. My son ordered the 2 meat plate, he loved the Brisket and Ribs, he also tried the Pinto beans with Brisket, they were very tasty. Overall Podnah's lived up to the hype. If you are in the area its worth a try.

We ended up cutting things out of our order to compensate for that. Honestly, I'm totally fine with restaurants making the food pricier to make up for costs, but adding a huge mandatory tip is a iffy. There are plenty of really good bbq places in the area that will give you comparable food without that. Neither myself or anyone in my party will be going back while this is still present, sadly.

The meats are excellent, the sides are very, very good, and the space is awesome even when it's crowded. I've had the Holy Matrimony on both of the occasions I've visited so I feel confident saying there's at least decent consistency and it wasn't just a lucky visit. Brisket is perfectly seasoned with plenty of pepper to complement the salt but not overwhelm the flavor of the beef. Ribs are meaty and delicious; tender without falling apart or turning to mush. Again, superb seasoning, big grains of tasty black pepper, and savory smoke complimenting rather than overwhelming the meat. The chicken thighs might be my favorite of all! I'm surprised that sliced, boneless chicken works this well but it REALLY does! They don't need sauce, but here especially a little touch is a killer compliment. The pulled pork is succulent but maybe just a little more tender than I prefer; and the sausage has a spicy finish, pleasant snap to the casing, and is nicely ground. The pickles are AMAZING!!! Jalapeños, onions, and cucumbers are all crisp, sharp, fresh, and perfect to enjoy with the meats. Of the sides the beans are my favorite, tots probably second, Caesar third, then Mac and cheese (pasta maybe a touch overcooked), and finally the slaw (I'll take vinegar over mayo any time). The first time I visited was a Friday evening and it was PACKED; today was mid-day on a Saturday which was MUCH tamer but the wait in both cases was not bad at all. There are still a few spots in PDX I'd like to explore in terms of BBQ but I feel confident Lil BBQ has earned (and will retain) a spot right at the top.

My favorite thing was the brisket which was so tender and flavorful, would definitely get again. Everything else was sadly a miss to our tastes. The frito pie was okay as the chili was a bit bland and almost gamey in flavor. The tots are very unique in flavor- it's like mashed potatoes slightly thickened and then battered and fried. The sausage was a hot link and actually decently spicy (not Portland spicy, but not like Thai hot either- somewhere in between, closer to medium-mild). My friend said the pork and beans were spicy too. The chips and queso were not a hit at our table as the chips were not desirable. Overall, I'd be willing to come back to try some other things on the menu. The server was very nice, the bbq sauces were great, and it was nice to hang out in their outdoor seating with some good drinks.

Break up the yolk to dip with the pork. The cucumbers and green beans are a nice clean accompaniment; spicy fish sauce was great - White curry with brisket burnt ends: I've never had a white curry, but the white curry and cauliflower was a great match for the super rich brisket pieces. I love the interesting combination! Note: pretty much everything has some spice to it, so for kids, the jasmine rice and yu choy are the main items, though my older daughter did ok with the fried chicken and brisket!
