    1/2lb poke

This place is so good! The wait though. I left one and came back to a line that was about 2/3rds shorter a few hours later. Well worth it though. -poke: my least favorite but tasted much better one I ate it with chips, instead of rice. I'm not a fan of overly sauced food. This was overly sauced with a creamy sauce, drizzled with a teriyaki sauce. -ono chicken: delicious! Addicting! Nice big chunky pieces that kept the chicken moist without sacrificing the crunch. - honey walnut shrimp: not bad but no walnuts. The breading didn't stick too well, and the tails were still left on. And for those that care, they did remove the poop tract. - Filipino pork belly: the cashier described this incorrectly. He said it was grilled and then fried but I think it was just grilled. It was delicious, regardless. This was off their special menu and if you like fatty, thick cut pork belly that's basted with a sweet soy and grilled, get it!

Portions here are HUGE! Finally found a place outside of HI that serves meat jun and there were 3 layers of beef in one order. We saw others' orders come out while we were waiting and were impressed with how much protein there was on each plate. The poke had a sauce that we were not a fan of but it was reasonably priced so we didn't feel bad not finishing it.

Grind Wit Tryz was the most satisfying lunch after landing at the Portland airport nearby. Our group is visiting Portland for a snowboarding trip from Houston, TX, and Filipino Hawaiian food was exactly what we were craving. Grind Wit Tryz has MASSIVE portions and just dang good food. You really need to come eat here if you're lucky enough to live nearby. This restaurant would do so well in Houston, TX if y'all are considering another location! As a group of 5, we purposely tried to order just about everything to try on the menu. We loved their ono chicken, spicy ahi poke, meat jun, honey calamansi shrimp, teriyaki beef, and ilocos empanadas. 10/10 would come back here again whenever we're back in Portland, enjoy! Also side note, even if you seen a line here, the service was pretty fast! Please bring a location to Houston, TX!

The food was ok. I was expecting way too much from this place. Our friends from Oregon and the reviews seemed to hype it up. My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Overall it was mid, I'm used to much more flavorful food in Los Angeles. Ill give it another go whenever I'm in the area at a different time. Perhaps it was a one off day for them.

We drive down from Olympia just because we're craving GWT! As someone born and raised in Hawaii, this is one of few places that hit the spot. We'll make any excuse to come down. The food is always Ono, the portion sizes are huge, and the flavors taste just like home. The staff is always amazing - super friendly. Don't let the long lines scare you, they move pretty fast, and the vibes from the music and decor make the wait easy. Only downside is parking can be a little humbug, but food makes it worth it!

Trio plate combo - Kalua pig, chicken katsu, lechon kawali.

Wanted to try this place for a very long time, finally got the chance today. I so excited. Order the Trio Plate Combo- Kalua pig, chicken katsu and lechon kawali. Wanted to try a bunch of stuff, also got some poke and for dessert the ling hing pineapple cake. Chicken katsu was fried a bit too long, dried out, made good extra crispy chicken fries that need lots of dipping sauce. They do pork well. Kalua pig needed a touch more salt and a bit more smoke. Nice and moist . Lechon kawali was ono, crispy exterior, moist juicy inside. The sides - rice and mac salad, needs a little work. The rice was too wet, Mac salad had too much mayonnaise. The poke - I'll stick to shoyu poke. This one had too much mayo. The ling hing pineapple cake was heavy, maybe if cake flour was use instead stead of all purpose flour would have made it lighter. I looove ling hing mui but I didn't care for this cake. Family must be working here, a little girl was sitting on as well as walking on the service counter. I'm giving two stars for the two good pork items. I wanted to love this place so much after following them for a couple of years on their journey to get a brick and mortar. I wish them well much aloha.

Fabulous poke nachos! Sooooo ono! A little taste of Hawaii in the PNW for real Service is super friendly. Been with these guys since their location in Alberta. The new spot on Cully is a lot more spacious for seating. Parking around the area is street/neighborhood but worth the couple loops to find a spot.

Family favorite eatz! Not local so made the trek when in OR. DELICIOUS!! HUGE portions, enough for 2-3 meals! Everything taste & texture were PERFECT!! Ono Chicken family favorite! Started with Ube & Lilikoi desserts and both AMAZING!! Went back to buy more but they were out of Ube. Quality, Quantity, and Price were all perfect match!!! I'd be broke and 50# heavier if I lived close. Employees SO Hospitable, Aloha vibes all the way! Go tryz it!!

They play the Hawaiian bangers here as you enjoy your food! Playlist on point, staff is nice and helpful. Easy to order at the counter and utensils and napkins on the side near where you pick up the food. The inside smells like oil (don't wear your nice clothes) and floors a little slippery (raining a lot outside or maybe oily??), but overall I enjoyed the vibes. Trio combo: meat Jun, Ono chicken, salmon Katsu. The salmon Katsu was super crunchy on the outside and tender inside. This was so good! Meat Jun was a little string but not too bad. Ono chicken was very tasty and I really enjoyed the sauce on the outside. Comes with two scoops rice and one scoop Mac. The PORTIONS! In love with the portions. When the lid can't close, that's the portion I like. Spicy tuna poke: had really good flavor and enjoyed the sauce and little kick. Fish was a little stringy though. Wish they had chopsticks here too! It doesn't feel right eating plate lunch and poke with a fork for some reason, but that's just me. Overall good portions of food, tasty meats, and good vibes. I'll be back!

    Pork sisig
    Alana L.

GWT gives very generous portions! Their food is pretty good too. I've tried their lechon kawali and the only thing I would change is to have it a bit more crispy (but I'm the kind of person that likes my meat dry-ish). I've also had the bbq pork inasal and that's probably my favorite dish there! I tried the pork sisig- it came with two beautiful fried eggs on top it also came with what I think was mayo under the eggs, on top of the sisig. This took away some of the flavor for me, so I'd recommend getting sisig without that cream sauce. Galbi short ribs had the perfect amount of char. I have my own personal preferences, so really, I give Grind Wit Tryz a 4.5. I still highly recommend.

Decided to try this place out again, and I think it's our new go-to spot for Hawaiian! We ordered the poke nachos and it was huge! More than enough for two people. Poke was great but the pork was a bit salty. This time we also ordered the ube cloud too, which was not too sweet, but interesting in texture.

Grind Wit Tryz serves some of the most authentic and delicious Hawaiian food I have had in a very long time. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. The nachos and the fried musubi were absolutely amazing, and that is saying a lot because I do not like spam at all. Somehow they completely won me over. I was so impressed that my husband and I actually started trying to figure out how we could adjust our commute home from work to pass by this place more often just so we can eat here again. If you are looking for truly excellent Hawaiian food that will surprise you in the best way, this spot is a must try. We will absolutely be back.

It handful of tables inside with a nice covered patio outside. The vibes were great... until they weren't. We greeted our waiter with "Mabuhay" in which he replied, "What?" confused- it's literally painted on the wall my guy. Crazy way to start dinner. Food came out impossibly slow. The restaurant wasn't full so I'm not too sure why it took as long as it did. They didn't mention coursing it out so we assumed they did. Drinks were all on point, everyone loved the Filipino inspired cocktails. Ube Colada was the table's fave. We ordered a bunch of things: 2 Skewers of the Bistek [$12 each], 4 Skewers of BBQ Pork [$10 each]. Bistek could have used a little more lemon/citrus as Bistek is known to be a little sour but the steak was amazingly juicy and tender. BBQ Pork always hits, super good! Did the Pancit Bihon [$17], it was "okay," have had better. Sisig [$17] was good as well, like the "pork bits" different way of prepping the dish. Diniguan [$27] as my most favorite part of the meal. I was sooo impressed with how that one came out. Loved that dish so much. Such an innovative way of presenting the dish. It was pork chop (cut up) with diniguan sauce on top (not drenched) with shishito peppers. OMG mouthwatering. LOVE that dish. Vibes were high until we asked where the other dish was which was the Lechon Manok [$27]. Our waiter kind of gave us an attitude saying that it was coming & that it took a while to prep. Mind you we ordered everything at the same time. That wasn't even it. The chicken came out we were cutting it, and then he saw us kind of struggle a bit, so he took the chicken and started tearing it apart with his hands... That should have already been a red flag. He said his hand were clean. Then he comes back like literally 10 minutes later asking if we wanted a box. Bro, the chicken barely came out give us time to enjoy the chicken you tore apart. He asked if it was good & we said it was 'alright.' Cause it was. Wasn't impressed with that dish at all. He left us alone for a bit and then came back saying, "I feel like I'm not doing enough, do you guys need anything?" If you were bored, just say that. Whatever, he lost us at that point. We saw him smoking outside, so hopefully his hands were clean. The food was great, the service was whatever.

Great concept, gracious hospitality but the food and flow still need seasoning…read more We were really excited to try Hapa Barkada, Filipino and Hawaiian fusion is a rare find anywhere, let alone in PDX. Bonus: they're open late (until 1 AM per Yelp). Since Google showed incorrect hours, we called ahead before making the drive across town from Happy Valley. Perks: -Free street parking after 7 PM and on holidays -Open late (a big plus in Portland) -Casual, trendy vibe Ordering was frustrating. The cell signal was terrible due to its half basement floor. The WiFi passcode wasn't posted, we had to leave our table to ask a staff for it, and even then, it didn't work for either of our phones. The intent of a digital-only ordering system clashed hard with the reality. I suggested they keep a few printed menus on hand as backup. Kiaha, the owner, was incredibly attentive and responsive. When she heard about the ordering issue, she came to our table, apologized sincerely, and took our order herself. She even comped a few items, which we truly appreciated. Food: Not quite there yet -The surprise winner was the Volcano Broccoli, flavorful with great texture. Would order again. -Steak Bites were overcooked. We weren't asked how we wanted them cooked. The sauce added a little flavor but didn't save the dish. -Fried Tofu Plate came with mac and cheese, green salad, and white rice. All three were underseasoned and forgettable. The tofu itself was oddly crunchy in a stale kind of way, and the vinegar dipping sauce didn't add much. -Mac and cheese lumpia sounded creative, but it just didn't land, bland and kind of "meh." -The 15-hour pulled pork bao had generous filling, but the pork lacked richness, flavor, and texture issues. The bao was served cold, which didn't help. -Mocktails (we tried both available ones: pineapple, lime, and something else) were okay but not memorable. Super cozy 4x6 feet single stall neutral restroom. The scent diffuser was cranked up way too high for such a tiny room, almost overwhelming. We came specifically for the pork belly, only to learn it's a weekend only item, a bummer, but not a dealbreaker. We're rooting for Hapa Barkada and willing to give it another go, especially to check out the pork belly when it's available. P.Y. Provides toilet seat covers.

We started off with that, and shared mochiko chicken, roasted broccoli, tofu with chimichurri and the fries. All were really delicious.
