The location was easy to find, but as with most places out here, can be a little challenging but doable. The place is big. There's a lot of seating indoor and has an outdoor area with bench seating like back home. Already hitting all the positives. The guy at the register is awesome, reminded me of my nephew. He took our order and gave us a buzzer. We sat outside and within minutes our buzzer went off. On the other side of the register is the pickup area. The guy pointed out each entree and repeated what it was. Even though I already knew what the entrees were, I actually appreciated that. It was good customer service. The food was like kanak attak. The portion was humongous. The poke nacho style wonton chips with spicy poke and kalua pig was broke da mout on point! With 3 of us sharing, we couldn't finish it, but made sure we ate all the poke so no left over lol. We also had the meat jun and garlic chicken. They were just as good. Only thing I was not 100 percent happy with was the rice and mac salad. Rice may be fresh but seemed day old to me and the mac salad needed to be thrown out. I did tell the guy. We were so excited to finally give this place a go! It was poppin at 5pm on a Tuesday afternoon when we arrived. Street parking was a little tricky but we figured it out. The setup is order at the counter and then find a spot to eat. They have a nice covered area outside but it was a bit hot that day so we quickly found a nice table in the restaurant. The food was ready quickly and the portion was epic! We shared an order of poke nachos, a side of Mac salad, spam musubis and a mango mochi square and it was definitely the right choice to share. The poke nachos were unreal. The chips tasted like wonton chips and they gave SO much poke. Delicious. The Mac salad was good as were the spam musubis. We were too full for the mochi after dinner but I worked on it over the next two days and it was so delightful. So moist and chewy, perfect texture. My only knock was how sticky/gross the trash/busing area were. I'm sure that's common with the amount of sauce on each plate but it probably should be cleaned more frequently as it attracts flies. The food was ok. I was expecting way too much from this place. Our friends from Oregon and the reviews seemed to hype it up. My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. We drive down from Olympia just because we're craving GWT! As someone born and raised in Hawaii, this is one of few places that hit the spot. We'll make any excuse to come down. Wanted to try a bunch of stuff, also got some poke and for dessert the ling hing pineapple cake. Chicken katsu was fried a bit too long, dried out, made good extra crispy chicken fries that need lots of dipping sauce. They do pork well. Kalua pig needed a touch more salt and a bit more smoke. Nice and moist . Lechon kawali was ono, crispy exterior, moist juicy inside. The sides - rice and mac salad, needs a little work. The rice was too wet, Mac salad had too much mayonnaise. The poke - I'll stick to shoyu poke. This one had too much mayo. The ling hing pineapple cake was heavy, maybe if cake flour was use instead stead of all purpose flour would have made it lighter. I looove ling hing mui but I didn't care for this cake. Family must be working here, a little girl was sitting on as well as walking on the service counter. I'm giving two stars for the two good pork items. I wanted to love this place so much after following them for a couple of years on their journey to get a brick and mortar. GWT gives very generous portions! Their food is pretty good too. I've tried their lechon kawali and the only thing I would change is to have it a bit more crispy (but I'm the kind of person that likes my meat dry-ish). I've also had the bbq pork inasal and that's probably my favorite dish there! I tried the pork sisig- it came with two beautiful fried eggs on top it also came with what I think was mayo under the eggs, on top of the sisig. This took away some of the flavor for me, so I'd recommend getting sisig without that cream sauce. Galbi short ribs had the perfect amount of char. Everything on their menu looked so good and it was hard to decide on a combo, but we ultimately ordered the Ono Chicken and Meat Jun. Went there for breakfast yesterday. They said it was only their second time doing breakfast but I've had their other options so I was hopeful. The ube mochi waffle was really good, 10/10 recommend. The Deluxe is great for the value, but the rice was too mushy (too much water? Cooked too long?). Overall the food was fine and good portion for a good price. My issue is the ambiance and cleanliness. The floor is noticeably greasy. You can feel your feet slide around when you walk on it, and its gross. Their silverware is self serve, which is fine, but it was disgusting. There was stuck on soy sauce and hot mustard on the steel table it was on, there were fruit flies flying around. Their outdoor tables we're gross too. Cigarette butts on them, stuck on sauces, etc. They had their bussing station sitting directly in the sun, and they had the previous nights trash in the garbage cans where you were supposed to buss your plates. It was very smokey when we walked in, and the restrooms and tables were visibly dirty. We opted for sitting outside. The Cashier was friendly, and our total without tip was $48 for 2 people. We got one combo plate with walnut shrimp and char siu pork, and one ono chicken plate. The ono chicken was pretty decent, but large pieces compared to smaller ones, and the shrimp were very small. The pork was tender, but lacked flavor. It's a major bummer to experience the downhill path Grind has taken, and given by the reviews on Google and Yelp, my opinions are shared by many others. The parking is kind of difficult, but managed to find some street parking across the road. The resturant is nestled on the on street corner with an. Unassuming storefront. Inside is fun and plenty of seating (there was also a festival booth vibe outside adding to the vibe). It's an order first and find your seat style. The chicken was crispy and tender for the most part. Overall, I'd say like 3/5. Wish there was more dark meat in the chicken, the white meat didn't work as well. 3/5 The ribeye katsu was interesting! I wanted to try it since I love my steak, but it was good! Most of the ribeye cuts were tender and pretty decent, a little dry and slightly overcooked, but good overall. I tried a bit of my friend's spicy ahi poke and that was suuper good, I'd probably opt to get that next time over the katsu. The combo comes with mac salad and rice. Have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally came with some visitors from out of town. We parked on the surrounding street and walked over but with the colorful sign it was easy to find. They have both indoor booths and tables and outdoor picnic tables seating. It was such a sunny day so we decided to sit outside. There were 4 adults and 1 toddler in my group and we only got 3 things and still had leftovers to take home! We ordered the Ono Chicken Plate, Kalbi Short Ribs plate, and the Spicy Ahi Tuna Nachos. It took a little bit to get the food because they make it fresh as seen by the crispy wonton chips for the nachos and the freshly fried crunch on the ono chicken. The Kalbi short ribs were sweeter than I would have like but still tasty. Everything came out in to go containers and the nachos box barely closed with how much food was in there! Everything was between roughly $16-28 depending on what you get but I think it's totally worth it for the quality and portions. The only thing is that we asked for plates to eat there and share and the plates were covered in grease and we had to wipe them down with napkins.
