Coldbrew (with Pandan Coconut Coldfoam) and Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Went to their brunch over the weekend at around 1PM. The vibe was chill, there was no wait, and it's one of those places where you order up front and get a number for your table. It should be noted that there's an automatic 20% tip applied to your bill, which never feels great. We ordered the Longsolig and the Bangsilog plates. And to drink, we got a fresh squeezed orange juice and a coldbrew. The longanisa they make in-house is more of the salty/savory kind, rather than the sweet and sticky kind. My partner said the bangus tasted differently seasoned than what she's used to, but she liked the crunch. The table we sat at also had a spicy vinegar that really elevated the meals after we were halfway through. It's a smart move and it keeps you from feeling flavor fatigue. The cold brew comes with a pandan coconut cold foam. My partner said that the foam was too thick, and that it muted out the cold brew, which she also thought leaned on the more sour side. The orange juice is definitely fresh squeezed. The taste of fresh squeezed can't be beat. My biggest gripe about this place is that the costs are way too high for what you're getting, plus the automatic 20% gratuity applied on every check. To put it into perspective, the orange juice alone costs $12 ($10+$2 tip). I'd estimate that this is for at most 12oz... I get that the cost includes the effort to make things in house, and what we did it was actually very much decent. But it was just hard to justify the price for what you're getting in a brunch.. otherwise, if cost isn't an issue for you, for sure, go for it. The food is good.

While the food was very good -- especially the pork belly -- I was disappointed that an 18% gratuity was automatically added even though there is no table service. Orders are placed at the front like a fast food joint and the process felt a bit disorganized. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was quite busy, and seating was limited to small red plastic chairs in some areas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you are there on a less busier day you can get a nice seat either outside or in their main dining area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately, they were also out of several items including the chicken adobo, and fish. We were able to try their pork belly , steak, eggs and sausage with rice. Very delicious and you will go home quite full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great vibe and chill atmosphere with karaoke[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I wanted my sausage, specially pork, cooked more!

The first time we encountered this restaurant, was when we were looking for another restaurant, but we couldn't find them. We passed this restaurant then, and we wanted to try them out, but they were closing, at 2:00pm. Hubby remembered, this Filipino restaurant, so here we try again. I'm not impressed with the fact, that: No one greeted us, as we entered. We weren't sure, if we need to sit ourselves, or order first. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's music playing, so we were not exactly sure, what the staff was saying.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But, I asked, if we just sit ourselves. We did. Then, I was sure, he said something like: I'll bring you guys water . . . I wasn't sure, if before we order, or after we order. Again, we just sat and studied the menu, and yes, we would have like the water, for we were thirsty! I'm Filipino, and there's a couple there that I didn't understand, it would be nice, if someone could explain them to us, before we ordered. We used our phone to search what it was. I ordered the Longanisa, housemade Filipino pork sausage and Beef Tapa. And a Side Salad of arugula, red onion, pepperoncini, olive oil, we shared. Hubby thought liked his order. I think they're tasty, but I'm not happy with my Longanisa. I thought, the middle part of the sausage was still pink. See photo. I was eating around it, and ate the egg, and all the salad. I took the rest of my sausage, to re-cook at home for another breakfast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like the fact, that we can eat with real utensils, and thick napkins.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

CHICKEN ADOBO (soy vinegar braised chicken thigh, leeks, garlic rice)

As the proud wife of a Filipino husband, I've really grown to love Filipino food over the past 20+ years that we've been together. It's become comfort food for me. And I'm happy to say that during our recent visit to Sun Rice, our meal totally hit the spot and made me feel like I was home. We experienced Sun Rice by attending a private Cho Wines event during an early Saturday afternoon. A perfect opportunity to enjoy our favorite wines and discover new favorite foods. And the weather was gorgeous, so the street was busy with lots of foot traffic. We arrived and were immediately greeted by both the Cho Wines and Sun Rice team members. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe was friendly, welcoming, lively and helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We shared the Chicken Adobo (soy vinegar braised chicken thigh, leeks, garlic rice), which was so tender, perfectly cooked and the rice was perfectly garlicky. We also shared the BBQ Pork Belly Sandwich (house made bbq spice blend, sweet and sour bbq glaze, sunny egg, atchara, garlic rice) which was the perfect brunch sandwich. We sipped on Cho wines, including their bubbly, Pinot and a red blend, which is my new fave. We visited with friends and had a lovely afternoon. Service was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is huge with lots nice outdoor and indoor seating, plenty of room for activities and different kinds of events.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I look forward to our next visit and getting to experience more items from the menu.

This is one of the best meals I've had in my life. We got the brunch burger, milkfish platter and a side of the longanisa sausages. I cannot begin to explain the amount of joy I felt eating this food, and I felt amazing afterwards. Try everything. Share everything.

I'll say this first - this place has Awesome lumpia, which we tried and loved when randomly stopping in last week. Today is where that stopped -- walked in @ 1:40p to grab a surprise order for my wife but the staff was cleaning up already. Door was open and sign says open until 2pm but the workers were Actively shutting down the kitchen. Refused to make lumpia on Mother's Day for a mother during operating hours. Worst experience ever, really ruined my surprise plans & day in general. I met the owner last visit who seemed like a family guy, so I'd expect him to not be proud of his staff conduct. Moral of story: don't come if you can't arrive at least 30min before their posted closing hours. Too risky.

    Elaine H.

The food was great! They had a special plant based menu the day I went. Everything was so good and the drinks were really unique. You would order with the front and then they would bring the food to you once it's ready. Food came out pretty quick! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Id love to try their brunch sometime and see what the vibes were like.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Broccoli Salad
    Mike S.

An incredible hidden gym we stumbled across today. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the get go the service and vibe was exactly what we look for in a restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We felt like we were invited into someone's home to try their tasty treats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The broccoli salad is new to the menu and is likely the best veggie you can find in this city. The pork belly was cooked to perfection and that egg on top completely elevated the dish. We had the chance to talk to the chef, the bartender, and the front of house service, and all three just made you feel so welcome! You can't fake joy and they really took delight in how much we loved their food! Can't wait to try their brunch menu!

Pretty good spot fot Filipino food in PDX. I tried their lechon kawali sisig which was pretty good. However it was good but not outstanding. I would be down to try other things here in the future though.

Pork belly and Veggie curry bowl
    Payton H.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]SunRice is an amazing option for lunch situated in the Moxy hotel, which provides a fun and lively atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The veggie bowl had a good depth of flavor and creaminess in the curry sauce, which paired nicely with the garlic rice. Everything here was cooked perfectly and in particular the pork belly was some of the best I've ever had.

    SEARED FISH FILET BOWL*
    Diane S.

I was looking for something quick, and this hit the spot. Simple, yet so delicious. The fish was perfectly crisp and packed with flavor, and even the rice had a great taste of its own--no bland sides here! It all came together as a comforting, home-style meal. Definitely one of those dishes that feels like a warm hug. You just order from the kiosk and they will call your name when it's ready.

    Miranda C.

This place was a bit hard to find since I didn't realize it was located inside the Moxy Hotel. It's a stall inside the hotel lobby and there are tables around. You order in the self service kiosk. I was expecting more things on the menu but there were only like two dishes. I ordered a pork belly bowl and thought it was alright. The pieces of pork were super hard and mostly fat pieces. I did really enjoy the rice and how it was seasoned and the spicy vinegar. Not something I'd come back for though.

    CHICKEN ADOBO BOWL*
    Margaret C.

So disappointed they removed parts of salad such as tomatoes and onions and the cucumbers are not as good anymore - tastes as if they were robbed of nutrients and became dry. There's also no egg anymore which was great for more protein. Prices didn't lower they were increased when I ordered through Inkind (asked me to order through the app instead). The chicken and rice are still delicious but it's not worth it anymore. Very sad!!

Aspen greets me like an old friend, a happy welcome into an expansive, ethereal space that feels more like LA than (perennially in the 90s) Portland. Low lounge & hi-top tables surround an open-air kitchen - transparency in the atmosphere as well as their "nose-to-tail" cooking techniques. The bar is long and dotted with glowing agate votives, vines extending down over a broad selection of booze (whisky & bourbon by style, including Japanese). One menu offers cheeky cocktails, mocktails, and a wide variety of Willamette bottles + a broad selection of European & South American wines. Another menu presents Cold dishes/RAW bar/Small Plates & Larger (sharing recommended). First course is a bluefin TUNA SASHIMI (butchered in-house with absolute precision) alongside a Serrano black sugar tamari (RIDICULOUS blend of salty/umami/spicy/sweet and smartly balanced by THICK-cut servings of tuna & chutoro (3x3). The fresh fish shines, as does explosive flavor in the sauce. Brilliant, bravo! Second, bartender recommends a house-favorite DUMPLING - this is one like never before, blending Linguiça (a Portuguese sausage), leeks, and cabbage that has a familiar texture within tissue-thin rice dumplings, but completely original umami, especially paired with the Japanese curry. It's wholesome and comforting, not too filling, and entirely new. THIRD if I MAE (pronunciation, questionable) - LAMB SPARE RIBS in a heaping portion with sweet/spicy tamarind sticky sauce that's barely reminiscent of BBQ, a perfect counter-balance to fatty, slightly gamey lamb. It's the cilantro herb salad on top & green olive tapenade that make it sing - textures and flavors are exotic, playful, herbal & funky (in a good way) all at once. Whether you're seeking a hot date night, a special staycation (right here in the Historic Arts District), or hosting a board meeting, there is space and plenty of taste for all, with a refinement in technique characteristic of larger cities. A sweet and savory reminder that family is a state of mind, and we're all connected for better or worse.

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.
