So glad that I tried this food truck while visiting Downtown Portland! It's in a square that has a few other food trucks nearby and lots of outdoor seating. This is probably my favorite jianbing I've tried so far. I appreciate how many different types of fillings they have. They have a couple vegetarian options which is great! I ordered the fried tofu classic series, which was the first time I've ever had a fried tofu inside a jianbing. The outer layer was more crepe than egg, in comparison to other jianbing I've tried before. But I didn't mind it (and actually enjoyed!). The sauce inside is so flavorful and delicious! The classic was a perfect portion for me, but they also have signature and loaded options if you're really hungry. They also welcome personalizations, as they were willing to accomodate my request of no cilantro and zhacai (Chinese pickled mustard plant stem). The mild spice was perfect and really not spicy at all - I would probably try medium next time. While food trucks can be hit or miss sometimes, this one did not disappoint. The wait for the food was a little long, but it was worth the wait because the food was delicious. The prices are also decent for a food truck. I highly recommend trying this! read more

They also have a brick and mortar that has the jianbings and also an expanded noodle and dumpling menu. No matter which location I have visited, the food has been consistent and quality. When my Yelp pal Ron writes a review, I tend to read extra carefully. The last time I was in Portland I wanted to try Bing Mi but they weren't open when I could go. Fast forward to today when my flight got in early and I saw they were open. Came in around 11ish when many of the food carts looked like they were just starting to prepare food. Found Bing Mi behind the Beer Garden stage. After looking at the menu, I couldn't pass up trying the roast duck. I ordered the loaded roast duck Jiang Bing with mild sauce. I paid with my card, was given a number and took a seat at the communal wooden picnic tables. When I got my food, I could see it was a solid amount. Two Jiang Bing halves. The only thing I didn't really see was the roast duck. Before I get into that though, I just want to say you can tell how much care the people who work here put into their food. If there's a line, they don't rush the process. The crepe outside is perfect and the crispy wonton pieces in the middle are the star of my Jiang Bing. Their cucumbers are fresh. You can taste the sauce. I just would have wanted a little more meat so it wasn't so much crepe and crispiness. I give them a solid 4.5 though. I couldn't finish both halves of my Jiang bing because it's filling. I suggest bringing someone who will want to share food. I may be back to try their handmade dumplings next! read more

Haven't had a jian bing in a minute but it is a treat that I enjoy. Came to this beer garden surrounded by food trucks in downtown Portland and this was one of the top rated ones. They specialize in jian bings which you can select a protein to go inside. Made and folded with egg, cucumbers, scallions, and a crispy fried dough, like a wonton. Generously loaded and smelled fantastic. Opted for two ducks and two chickens. I really liked the balance of flavor of each jian bing. The ingredients worked well in harmony and the crepe itself held up really well. I'm not sure if it was added to it, but I do wish there was hoisin sauce, just to round out the flavor a bit more. I did actually get some separately from elsewhere to pour on. Still delicious though and staff working the food trucks were incredibly friendly. They came out right away, with a sauce that really hit the spot. Topped with sesame seeds and onions, the flavor leaned slightly toward sweet soy, in a good way. Noodles $13 for the base for cong you mian (onion oil noodle). Pretty good, though on the plain side at first. There was an optional $2 chili oil, which felt like an upsell, but they ended up giving it to me. After adding a bit more oil, the noodles became more fragrant and nutty. Not spicy, but rich, and not too oily for the sauce - it was a well controlled amount of sauce. Simple comfort food, elevated slightly by quality oil and the setting. I've seen a lot of videos about Bing's and figured that it was the perfect opportunity to give them a shot. I got the duck special Bing which came out in 10-15 minutes. The bing itself was delightful - the crepe was crispy and light and acted as a perfect vessel for the fillings. Our friend introduced us to Bing Mi and we fell IN LOVE!!! I would have never known about this place if it wasn't for her, so BIG SHOUT-OUT TO AMANDA! This food cart is one of the eight carts permanently situated in the Slabtown Food Carts block. It's a small area, so it can get crowded depending on the day/time. There are shaded/covered tables within the food cart area and right outside, adjacent to the street, but again, this spot is quite popular, so you may need to wait a bit for an open table. My go-to is the FRIED TOFU LOADED JIANBING and my husband's new favorite is the CHINESE SAUSAGE LOADED JIANBING with SPAM. His combination isn't on the menu, BTW. There is an additional charge to add spam. But whatever you decide to get, you have to make sure you order from the LOADED JIANBINGS menu. LOADED includes an extra egg, cracker, and fresh veggies. This combination provides the perfect texture for this savory Chinese crepe: soft & crispy and fresh & fried. You also have a choice of the spice level. Personally, the difference between mild and medium is daunting. To me, mild has a spicy level of 0 and medium has a spicy level of 7. LOL, big jump, I know, but that's just me. The menu was straightforward and mostly there were no additional questions to ask. Ambiance: Bing Mi Food Cart was located near the end of the Food Carts block. There was a table directly next to the cart if you wanted to eat your JianBing in peace. There were also a few more tables around. It was well-kept and clean. Food (5/5): We ordered the Double Egg Jianbing which came with scrambled egg, bing sauce, green onion, cilantro, zhacai (pickled mustard stem), and wonton crackers. It was the perfect combination of salty, crunchy, and tangy - my taste buds were blown away. It was so good we really wanted to order a second one after we finished the Jianbing; but unfortunately, we couldn't because we had another restaurant to try 30 minutes later. I so desperately wish we had more places, especially in the Bay Area that sell JianBing, but I guess I'll just have to wait for my next trip to Portland to get another taste. After getting the toasty bing, I was pleasantly surprised that it's a decent size! The typical bing comes with egg, sauce, green onion, cilantro, pickled veggies and sheets of fried wonton. Everything tasted fresh. I couldn't put my finger on it but I felt like it wasn't as good as what I've had in Beijing. Maybe the sauce was a little too sweet or I could have used A LOT more pickled veggies. This was my first stop in PDX, and I don't think I could've found a better "snack" food after a flight. I got the Supreme Bing (duck + sausage loaded jianbing) and my husband got the loaded bing with bbq pork and sausage. We were both hungry and didn't want to share lol. The Supreme Bing ended up being too much for me and I couldn't finish it in one sitting. It was tasty and filling (and really hot!), but I don't think it's worth $18 unless you want to splurge or really want try this. June was my first trip to Portland and I had assembled a strategic list of eats around the schedules planned (mainly eating, lol). Was very excited about trying Bing Mi from all the reviews, and wanted to hit it as the very first meal upon landing in PDX. Didn't realize PDX food carts assemble in groups in certain lots, so took me a 2nd passing to decide to just park the car and walk to the area Google maps was saying I passed:). Various carts from street to the inside of the lot and finally found Bing Mi at the end of the lot. Having no experience with Chinese crepes, I had decided to go all-in and go for the Supreme Bing duck/sausage loaded. Wife chose the Adam sausage/bacon loaded. Didn't see anything kid might like, so got him some chicken shawarma on the adjacent cart while we waited. Took a while for it to be ready, with the friendly gentleman near the front of the cart working hard to assemble the crepes on a hot day. When it was finally ready, felt like a kid getting cotton candy handed to them. These things were nice and super hot! Looked interesting, but didn't see much in it holding it. First several bites were just eating through the crepe wraps with no real flavor. Undeterred, continued to work down to the super flavors everyone seemed to like on the reviews. Got some dry cucumber bites and then towards the bottom got some dry sausages and I guess dry ducks. Was trying to savor the flavors of the meat, but they didn't have much flavor to give! The meats were dry and not even fresh, the cucumber had the dry old taste as well. The special sauce, there was very little of it in there and it didn't taste special at all to me, tasted like hoisin sauce maybe (the brown sauce I pour on when eating pho?). After trying to at least eat the susbtance in it, tossed the ends of the crepe wraps since the whole meal left me with regret due to no flavor! Not sure what I am missing here, maybe chinese crepes are an acquired taste? The food quality and lack of flavor for $18 to me was a bad start to the PDX trip. Wife said hers was ok, but not sure if having bacon instead of duck makes a difference? I guess bacon is never bad, so maybe it had some flavor at least. For me, the excitement of trying this went from highs to the bottom of the foods I got to try in PDX. There was so much better flavors to be had, not only in trucks but even in sit down restaurants at this price level. I don't mind the price if the food is great, but this was flavorless for me. Maybe if you know and like these types of crepes, give it a go. Maybe the BBQ pork version is the one to get here for some flavor??? I heard couple of bbq pork orders while waiting for my order. Amazing jianbingguozi! Definitely the best I've ever have in the States so far. Way better than the one from U district in Seattle (if you know you know). I'm jealous of Portland Jianbing lovers! I ordered the classic Jianbing on the first day to see if it's good. I don't really care about the authenticity when talking about Chinese food in the States, as long as they are tasty. Surprisingly, my classic Jianbing was so good, for the authenticity, I'd give it a 97.6374 out of 100. If you were willing to try new food and not allergic to certain ingredients, I highly recommend you to go for the original way: never get rid of any ingredient, even the 'preserved vegetable,' it's the great part (I know it sounds a bit unhealthy at some point, but don't get me started with some of your over buttered food and sugary drinks that you get everyday). For the Jianbing itself, the bread is thin and soft. If you order two eggs, it will be slightly thicker but still fluffy enough, you got more but the flavor is still classic and simple, highly recommended. The crunchy wonton cracker adds more layers of texture to Jianbing also, and it isn't too greasy. I like the sauce they use, it's not too salty and really balanced. To sum it up, Bing Mi offers good quality and tasty Jianbing, it's a place we'll come back again when we're in Portland. read more

But the sweet young lady there was patient that she described a few yummy choices that made it hard for me to decide lol. She still had service with a smile, and I liked it! // CRISPY CREPES // I went with my cravings and chose the Roasted Duck Jianbing ($14) and a Vietnamese Sausage Loaded Bing ($12). When I received my brown bag of goodies, I didn't think it would fill the whole bag but it did. One bite and I was in heaven! As far as meat fillings, both were tasty, but I guess I wanted more meatiness. Or maybe I was expecting it to be stuffed like a burrito, but it was not. I figured, eh it's just the way it's made. I had been looking forward to this since before I visited Portland. This Jianbing was as delicious as possible. It was crispy, spicy and warm. I got the special 5-spice beef with medium spicy sauce. It was amazing and a whole lot of food for me. I like spicy food and I thought medium was the perfect middle of spicy but not too spicy. The cashier was super kind and helped guide me through the ordering process. Whilst the order took 30 mins, the area was nice and had a few tables to relax at. My first time having Jianbings! I got the fried tofu Jianbing with vegan batter. Very crunchy and I love crunchy texture so it was awesome. I went with 2/3 spiciness level and it was not too spicy (I would get level 3 next time). The jianbing was super crispy and flavorful, my only complaint was that it was a lot of fried stuff and it hurt my stomach, although it was my choice to get the fried tofu. Next time I'd like to try one of the breakfast ones. The dumplings were so good and exploding with savory flavor.... The sauce was ok, maybe slightly bland, but that let the dumplings shine. I need more of these dumplings asap. The restaurant is really small and intimate so I would be sure to plan ahead if you want to go during a conventionally busy time.
