Tonkotsu Shoyu Red*

Kinboshi Ramen shares a space with three other eateries, which may seem confusing because the sign on the building will state that it is Snappy's sandwich shop. The other eatery being Nong's Khao Man Gai (SE). You walk in, make a left, and walk towards the window to find the counter to order. The service is fast and friendly. The tonkotsu defining feature is the milky, savory broth, the blending of fat and collagen, slowed cooked over a prolonged period of time. The spiciness in the dish is a generous topping of chili, follow up with a tender slice of chashu pork, seasonable vegetables which in this instance was spinach and green scallions, and half of a soft boiled egg. The noodles had a perfect amount of al dente/bounciness/ QQ to it. The bowl of piping hot noodles was a beautifully balanced symphony of spicy decadent broth to noodle to tender pork in every bite ratio.

This is a great location near Portland Tennis Center for Ramen. I do find this place is just a quick spot to just order and sit down and enjoy your Japanese meal for the night. It's very basic service. You do need to bus your own table...

Decided to come here on a rainy day because I was feeling like ramen and I wanted to try a new place. It was busy at lunchtime, but there was still some seating. It's a fast casual so you order at the counter then grab a seat until they bring your food. The employees were friendly and tipping is optional, but a portion does go to the kitchen. I ordered the Paitan Red Chicken ramen which was chicken broth, based with chasu chicken. I decided to get this instead of pork broth to feel a little healthier. Still debatable. My ramen came out nice and hot and very red. I had read reviews that this didn't mean super spicy and meant more flavorful. I mostly agree, but I did notice the broth had a little heat, good chicken flavor, and probably some sichuan peppercorns because I noticed some tingle. The chasu slices taste good, but were a little dry-they must've used chicken breast. The egg was gooey. The noodles chewy. Bamboo slices plentiful (not surprised since they are canned). The portions were on the smaller side based on other ramen shops. Overall, I think the ramen was good enough and not overly filling, but I'd probably stick to the regular spots.

Worth the wait! This place was perfect for a drizzly Saturday afternoon. Limited menu, limited seating. During the Saturday lunch rush, we waited around half an hour for our ramen. Recommendations: Everyone seems to recommend the Red Tonkatsu, but I thought the regular Tonkatsu was much more flavorful. For the spice level: I have a mild to low spice tolerance and the Red was not too spicy, only a slight kick at the end.

Found this place by chance while hitting up their neighbor so just had to also give it a try and sure glad I did! First off like many spots around the PDX everything is simplified and you order at the front counter and then find a table inside or outside. I'm a fan for a little spiciness in my ramen so went with the Tonkotsu Red Ramen which had a spicy (not overly hot) rich pork bone broth and the noodles were cooked perfectly al dente! The bowl came with slices of very tender chashu pork, vegetables consisting of bamboo shoots, green onions, wood ear fungus, and a soft boiled egg. The broth came out piping hot and I'm always a stickler when it comes to hot or lukewarm. A group sitting next to me said the spicy chicken karaage and their Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen were very good too. It's a no frills like I said by ordering at the counter and they'll bring out your food. The interior was very clean with music pumping not too loudly in the background. Will def put this on my go to PDX list!

I came once and started craving the tonkotsu red EVERY SINGLE DAY. It is so good!! Addictive. Rich and spicy and umami. The noodles are perfect. The pork is perfect. A little hard to find parking given the area but not impossible. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Ugh the ramen is so good. It makes eating anything else so difficult. The staff and very friendly. It's very clean as well even with sharing the space. Wow I want another bowl.

Didn't wait in line very long but had to wait over 30 minutes for my single ramen to come out while I saw the people next to me get their two ramens within 5-10 minutes. Was not worth the wait considering I could get similar quality ramen for less of a wait and better service elsewhere. Would totally understand if they gave me a heads up or at least acknowledged the long wait. Ramen wasn't bad - good if you need a spot that doesn't close too early! I recommend trying Toya just around the street! I was initially going to go there but decided to try a new place out. Wish I went there instead though.

Pleasantly surprised in how good this ramen spot was! I always had the impression that the Asian food in Portland was not as great as ones in other states, but this ramen spot was solid. It was even better than some spots I tried in SoCal. I visited this restaurant on a holiday noon time and it was decently packed. You go up to the register to order your food and they bring the food to you. The area was shared with 2 other restaurants I believe and you can sit anywhere and they will bring you your food. Great if your group wants different foods. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Tonkotsu Shoyu Red with a small side of curry and both were yummy. The ramen was tasty with the right amount of spice and richness. The different components were great as well and were properly cooked. The egg and meat were soft and melted in your mouth which I liked. The curry side was also great too and the curry flavor was tasty. Nothing seemed unfresh, old or hard. Overall, a solid option if you're craving curry in the Portland area.

If you're nearby, it's a good bowl of ramen. A solid 4 stars. Noodle texture and bite is good. Broth of my Tonkatsu was also good. Satisfying. There's not much to say for service, it's pretty straight forward, not much of an experience to be had. I visited mid afternoon, pretty busy felt like a cafeteria with all the bustling. It's extremely casual, good for a pop in with a friend if you're in the neighborhood. Would I go out of my way to seek it as a destination? Probably not, but still, a solid above average bowl of ramen in the area. Parking is easy enough on streets within short walking distance.

Hubby and I were in the mood for ramen, so we decided to check out this place after hearing recommendation from friends. We heard their Paitan Ramen is delicious so that's what we got (one Shio and one Red). One thing to note is that the restaurant is fairly small with limited seating. They have a communal long table that smaller groups or single customers can dine at, so we chose to sit there. The ramens came out promptly and they were quite tasty. The broth was rich and creamy and not too salty. The Red is much spicier than the Shio and I couldn't really taste the creaminess of the broth in that one. I do think the portion is a bit small for the price but that might be standard nowadays.

We had the great idea to get ramen on a recent rainy Saturday night. Apparently the rest of Portland did too, because this place was busy! There was a line to get the counter where you order, and then they quoted a 20 minute wait for food (though I think it ended up being a little faster). They bring the food out to your table number, and they're quick to bus your table when you're done to encourage you to head out, but staff are few and far between otherwise. They have indoor shared tables and a number of outdoor picnic tables. The ramen was delicious - our group ordered the tonkotsu and the miso vegan. Great broths and toppings. They're approximately $16 a bowl.

We came here for a quick dinner and ordered the tonkotsu red, a side of veggie curry and some spicy chicken karage. The service was quick and efficient. We quickly ordered and found our seat. The chicken karage came out first. The taste was okay. I thought it was just a bit bitter and the sauce didn't quite elevated the chicken karage flavor. Then our tonkotsu reds and veggie curry came out. The curry was okay.... Nothing too special. The red tonkotsu was another story. The bone broth did elevated the flavor, but my partner questioned why spinach was served in the ramen bowl. Overall, a decent quick and simple dinner.

Kinboshi is located in a building with 2 other restaurants. The tables are large and seating is family style. They also have a very large outdoor patio. We got there around 5 on a Friday night and they were pretty slow but within the hour they were packed. The line was really long and it took forever to get through. I had the Paitan Shio -Chicken Broth. It came out steaming but it wasn't hot. I'm not sure how that happened. It was flavorful and the portion size was pretty big. While what I had was good I wouldn't wait in line for 30+ minutes just to order.

This is the best ramen I've had. Just the right amount of spice. The pork was so tender and juicy. Good service. Cute space.

Is there a gluten free ramen option?

While a few things stood out, the meal as a whole didn't quite hit the high marks I was hoping for. Here is how it broke down: The Starters (The Highlight): Karaage (Fried Chicken): This was easily the best part of the meal. The pieces were large, juicy, and had a great, ultra-crispy crunch on the outside. Takoyaki: Decent texture and well-presented on a long plate with plenty of bonito flakes, making it a solid appetizer to share. The Mains (A Bit Average): Spicy Ramen: The noodles had a good chew, but the broth lacked the deep, rich complexity you expect from a really stellar ramen. Even with the spicy paste mixed in, the flavor profile felt a bit flat. Chashu Don (Rice Bowl): While it was a generous portion packed with chopped chashu and minced meat, it ended up tasting a bit monotone after a few bites and could have used more balance or a punchier sauce. Overall, it's a fine spot if you want a quick, filling meal, but the flavors didn't quite wow me enough to make it a standout. Solid, but nothing mind-blowing.

We shared the cream cheese wontons, coconut curry with chicken spice level 2(which comes with rice), and the luc lac. Everything was deliciousss! The chicken in the curry broke apart so easily and the curry itself was very flavorful. Spice level 2 was perfect for a little kick, but not too much. The meat on the luc lac has a nice char on it and a sauce that is almost sweet. Service is quick and the vibe inside is very trendy with colorful decor and lights. Great for a night out.
