It's quirky, dark, and quaint which I loved. I had the spicy seafood ramen and my friend the Tomo ramen. The broth on mine was to die for and my friend immediately wished he had ordered what I had. After entering, you will find a kiosk that you place your order on before seating. Take the print out and find a seat in an intimate shared space...possibly with others. The gyu-ramen was overall pretty great. I liked the beef and the pork belly - quail eggs are not for everyone - I loved them. Our salmon dish was not so great. The fish was minimal - on the well done side. It was a disproportionate amount of rice. Some veggies, like the radish, could have been fresher. I would not get it again. read more

Ramen was delicious. We found the spot on ig and had dinner here while visiting Portland. I got the Tonkotsu and my gf got the beef ramen. Large portions we even got to take some to go and eat the next day. We also had some Karage chicken and that was so good too. We ordered at the counter and chose our seats. The staff is kind and attentive. The vibe is very chill also romantic. Definetly could be a date spot. It is bar style seating so not very intimate. Very cozy ramen spot. Inside is small with exclusively counter seatings but super well-decorated. Staffs were very friendly. I enjoyed the Nest Ramen and appreciated the super generous portion but I did think their classics bone broth was a little bland for my liking. The chicken breasts were also dry but the grilled chicken was great! Would recommend going for their Miso Tonkotsu instead. The broth looks more intense and flavorful and the chashu pieces are also super big and meaty. Their bowl options were enticing as well. Overall, a nice spot for ramen, especially on a rainy day. They do get very packed though so come prepared to wait or be cozy with people. read more

Top of the line Ramen place. Great for meat eaters or vegetarians. I recommend that you come in during slow time since the seating is limited. They have a great drink selection, options for vegetarians, and the food presentation was incredible. You order at the bar or front door so it's not table side service but you're still expected to tip which I don't agree with. Overall great spot for small group and large bowl ramen! read more

We always pass this little hole in the wall but it's always at the small time they are closed for break! We finally caught them after the break! We were maybe second in the door and you order on the iPad style menu when you first walk in. Easy enough, then you go and find a seat which is communal seating. The inside has an island table seating and the two walls are also seating. Definitely not a big group style unless you get there right when they open. Food was delicious and servings were LARGE. Definitely sharable plates. Service is quick but they don't really go around except to drop off the food and drinks you ordered so you have to get their attention for something. It may look small from the outside, but Tomo has more than enough seating! It's all communal, but you'll have more than enough room from side to side. Walking past the large table was a little difficult, and we were bumped a few times by people passing by from behind, but it really did encompass the small ramen shops like in Japan. It was cozy and lively with beautiful decor to create that traditional Japanese atmosphere. We had ramen and karaage which was wayyy more than enough for the two of us. The portions here are HUGE, probably the largest bowl of ramen you can find in Portland. Both of our ramens were delicious at first, but it does get to be a lot towards the end. The pork was really good and I love how they were thicker pieces rather than the normal, slimmer pork slices. The noodles were great consistency as well, and I love the small side toppings that came with each bowl. I added extra garlic and some chili flakes to mine! read more

Another meant to go to one restaurant but it was unexpectedly closed so went here randomly next success story! I got the Next Shoyu which is chicken shoyu broth with a fried chicken leg, quail eggs and sliced chicken. It was wonderfully satisfying. Sake was served under a small candle to keep it warm. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. The lighting was dim and warm. The walls were lined with with vintage Japanese art prints and movie posters and traditional Japanese elements. We ordered the tonkotsu and miso tonkotsu. The pork belly was so flavorful, juicy, and real charred. The quail eggs were not expected- I wish they were marinated and runny. The portions are large! The soup was rich, creamy, and delicious. The chili oil is not spicy at all... need something with a stronger kick! The food itself is great, but the way to order is frustrating. There is only one kiosk at the front causing a line out the door. There is no way to communicate on the kiosk if you have allergies, so we almost left, but I went up to speak to one of the servers and she helped me out. read more

You order at a touchscreen as you walk in, get your ticket, and seat yourself in the plethora of chairs in the dark, red-lantern strewn main area. Drink menus are at the tables and seats! Enjoyed a meal here earlier in the year on a drizzly afternoon. The restaurant is on the smaller side and you'll have to get lucky with street parking. Once inside you'll be treated to some great customer service and delicious food. The entire menu sounded great but settled on the miso ramen. The broth was great as were the tender slices of pork and quail eggs. I also split an appetizer of agedashi tofu which was a nice surprise. Never been to Japan, Tomo Ramen felt like what I imagine the ramen shops are like there. Not recommended for parties larger than 3, this space is very cozy and efficient. The tonkotsu ramen is massive and comes with ginger, garlic and chili to adjust flavor to your liking. The quail eggs and the pork with perfectly seared lines were the highlights. I was happy to have leftovers. And the karaage chicken was so dang delicious, too! Vibes are great and so are the portions! I would lean more towards a 3.5 star. When you walk in, ordering is self serve on a tablet. Seat yourself and the staff will bring your food out to you. The seating area is very intimate and best for groups of 2. I don't recommend bringing a large group here, cuz ya'll prob won't be able to sit together. Taste wise, the food was 3/5 for me, but the big portions and presentation definitely make up for it. The ramen comes loaded with toppings, so you definitely won't feel ripped off. This personally wouldn't be my first choice for ramen (although I don't know if I even I even have a first choice for ramen in pdx) but I wouldn't be opposed if a friend suggested it. read more

I don't have much of a ramen yen, but my oldest son really does! One of his two favorites is Tomo. His favorite is the beef ramen. I don't know if that has a tradition in Japan, but does that matter? Not when it comes to taste - this is so hot that not only my oldest son, but even the youngest, who doesn't looove ramen, loves Tomo's! It is nice because my 14 year old feels comfortable eating alone in the restaurant. I've had nothing but nice servers and helpful interactions. The only downside is when you have hungry kids and have to watch someone fumble through the mandatory computer ordering system. read more

Came here after a friend recommended. It's very tiny, with a ordering device at the entrance, and if you're lucky to find seating quickly you grab it so you can eat inside. We came on a Saturday evening so of course it was pretty packed but we luckily found a spot while we were waiting for our food. They only have one vegetarian option so that's the only item I can review on. While I thought the broth was absolutely delicious I found some of the toppings slightly random and not necessarily appealing (mostly referring to the spinach). I did enjoy the tofu nuggets they tasted very chicken nuggety to me but there was also regular tofu in addition. Just seemed like a lot of tofu.... Anyway if the toppings appeal better to you I recommend checking it out. Also the serving sizes are massive so come hungry or expect to take some home. Nothing wrong with either! read more

The place is cute, but not much else stands out. The karaage was like eating a rubber band. The ramen wasn't bad, it just want anything special. Worst of all, imo, was the dead-eyed almost downright rude server. She really seemed to hate her life more than she hated us, and we were model customers. Didn't ask questions, didn't ask to bring us anything other than our food, did nothing to warrant any attitude. We were very polite, and just nothing. No acknowledgment whatsoever.
