Spicy Garlic Ramen & Black Garlic Shoyu & Shishito Peppers
    Hop N.

Food: 3.5/5 Service: self service, you order at the counter, pick your own seats, and bus your own table. Ambiance: 4/5- cozy dinner vibe with low lighting, good for a chill night out. The restaurant is located in a nice area, though parking was a bit hard to find. There's plenty of seating inside and they also offer outdoor tables, which is a nice option. They feature seasonal ramen specials and this month's theme was pumpkin. Ordering was easy and straightforward, with each ramen bowl having a helpful description. For appetizer we got the shishito peppers to try, the chili mayo that came with was so good! The peppers themselves were a bit too oily for my taste, but a squeeze of lime really elevated the flavor. We got: spicy garlic ramen ($18)- definitely a bold flavor, leaning on the saltier side. It felt a bit heavy after a few bites. the black garlic shoyu ($17) was more mellow, and the noodles soaked up the broth nicely. Both bowls came with perfectly jammy eggs. I didn't try the chashu, but my boyfriend said it was smoky, super tender, and not overly fatty basically the ideal cut. Overall: I'd come back to try more from their menu!

The ultimate rainy-day recharge--one slurp and your worries dissolve. This places ambiance was fantastic and the food was delectable. Service was good for how busy they were, we were the beginning of the dinner crowd. We got the Pumpkin Tantanmen, which I recommend since it's the fall special and temporary. It's not that spicy like a 5 out of 10. My friend got the mild curry ramen. Our favorite part was the broth and pork belly. I would recommend getting extra serving of pork belly. The noodles were good but we both thought they could've been a bit thicker. We also shared a 2 piece order of jumbo tenders and they are def JUMBO! I got the curry flavor and it was soooo good. I saved the left over for my broth. Our only complaint was the table we got was super janky, like it had a missing screw and was wobbly but we survived and didn't spill. Parking can be rough but doable. I hope you like it.

I'm always in search for good ramen just bc I love it so much and this place did not disappoint! Atmosphere was nice and cozy. The peppers for an appetizer were really good. The spicy miso ramen was the star. It was packed with flavor! Will definitely be back

We had the curry ramen, Tonkotsu Shoyu, and the Vegan Tokyo Shoyu. The curry ramen was the best, it was amazing if you go here you should definitely get that. The service was good, there was no wait, and the food came out quick and hot. It was a comfortable setting. Plus it was counter service, but even though it was counter service we still got to sit down and someone brought our food over. I usually don't prefer ramen but the curry ramen was the best ramen i have ever had.

Brewery hopping on Mississippi, easy walk to Matsunoki. Indoor ~ cool vibe with a walk up bar. Nice furniture & decor. Two walls of windows for natural lighting. The weather was too nice and ate outside at the picnic tables. Fried Chicken ~ large breast tenders, nice crisp on the outside, tender & juicy inside. Dipping sauce tasty. Ramen ~ Black Garlic intensely strong, deep broth, on the verge of too rich. Noodles perfect al dente. Service was welcoming but the typical counter ordering and tip before you eat is whatever.

I was at the coffee shop next door and lunch time snuck up on me. I walked through the hallway into this ramen shop around 1pm and it was pretty empty. I ordered the black garlic ramen and a peach margarita. The ramen was delicious and you could smell the garlic on it! I wish they had more toppings like mushrooms and bamboo shoots but their additions were very limited which was a bummer. I like my ramen bowls to be packed! The pork piece in the ramen was the best I've ever had!! Or was a thick, fatty piece of pork that was very delicious! I feel like most ramen places give you dry, thin slices of pork but this pork was amazing. The broth was also tasty and I definitely kept drinking it when the noodles were gone. I enjoyed my peach margarita too! I've never had a peach margarita but I felt like this was refreshing! Overall, a great spot with great food! I got my ramen quickly too. Check this place out and get some coffee next door!

Flavorful and fresh! Black garlic and tonkatsu are both good. I've dined in and gotten to-go various times. Tastes delicious each occasion. Service is nice. Plenty of street parking. Location is on the corner of Mississippi Street which is a popular place to eat and shop.

This place is amazing. I wished I had to chance to dine in as the ambiance is nice and spacious. We got the vegan spicy garlic ramen and the vegan spicy curry. Both were savory, filling and had the right amount of heat. The tofu was marinated and well seasoned. The curry one was my favorite but both were really solid choices - can't go wrong with either They have a nice variety of vegan ramens with different flavors and their service was awesome, very kind and considerate even though I was just there picking up the food.

Yum yum yum. We were looking for some ramen that packed a flavor punch and found it here. The Tantanmen spicy miso ramen was beyond delicious. So flavorful and creamy, spice level just a slight burn, nothing crazy. The tofu (and I'm not a tofu eater) was melt in your mouth and full of flavor. The pork belly was not that flacid chewy stuff you see elsewhere, it was compact pieces with a crunchy side that were a delight to eat and not a chore. We also had the winter special Singapore Chili Crab Ramen that had a fried soft shell crab in it. Also delicious! This broth was a little more sour, but oh so delicious. We WILL be back!

The service was nice. Order first then sit down. They have a bar if you choose have adult beverages. I had the tonkotsu shoyu -spicy. The broth good could be a bit richer and noodle texture was good. The pork(charsu) was charred, bland/non marinated and a bit tough.

This is one of my favorite places in Portland! Great for groups as it is in Pine Street Market which has a few food options inside. You order and there is shared seating in the middle. I always go to Matsunoki Ramen every time I'm in town. The broth in the ramen is amazing! I always order the Tonkotsu Shoyu (without egg) and a side of chili sauce so I can control how spicy it is (I'm a baby).

Newish spot for ramen! It's counter service so you order and pay at the counter and they'll bring out your food. The menu has some apps and cocktails but not a ton of variety. There's plenty of tables and even outside seating. The cocktail came out timely but our ramen was done and just sitting there in the kitchen because staff was slower. Ramen was a bit cold but that's okay. Flavor was good but service is a tad lacking.

    Tantanmen ramen!

An excellent spot for ramen - yummy noodles, a variety of broths, and the crunchiest chicken strips. The space is clean and the servers are knowledgeable efficient. The ramen was so good, I went back a week later and it was just as satisfying.

While a few things stood out, the meal as a whole didn't quite hit the high marks I was hoping for. Here is how it broke down: The Starters (The Highlight): Karaage (Fried Chicken): This was easily the best part of the meal. The pieces were large, juicy, and had a great, ultra-crispy crunch on the outside. Takoyaki: Decent texture and well-presented on a long plate with plenty of bonito flakes, making it a solid appetizer to share. The Mains (A Bit Average): Spicy Ramen: The noodles had a good chew, but the broth lacked the deep, rich complexity you expect from a really stellar ramen. Even with the spicy paste mixed in, the flavor profile felt a bit flat. Chashu Don (Rice Bowl): While it was a generous portion packed with chopped chashu and minced meat, it ended up tasting a bit monotone after a few bites and could have used more balance or a punchier sauce. Overall, it's a fine spot if you want a quick, filling meal, but the flavors didn't quite wow me enough to make it a standout. Solid, but nothing mind-blowing.

But unfortunately the bowl was super small. It's a $4 add-on to the curry that you can finish in like 3-5 spoonfulls. Maybe that's not terrible as an add-on; I dunno.
