The menu is straight out of Mama's kitchen... curry rice, gyoza, ramen, karaage, tskoyaki, and more, but let's face it... mom wasn't quite this good. The curry had just a perfect balance of spice, enough to warm you, but not enough to bother you tomorrow, and so much umami! Karaage was so good! Moist and so flavorful, and such a nice crispy crunchy coating (served absolutely molten hot!). Miki liked her ramen, but that was not the highlight. What was?
Gen.Mai.Cha!!! So perfectly prepared to a deep green, redolent of roasted rice and such a generous full mug! Y'know, lots of folks offer matcha, sencha, ujicha, and more... but few seem to have mastered one simple rule of preparation. If it must be steeped, for Ebisu's sake, don't overdo it! If your tea is brown, not green, Portland, you are doing it wrong and no amount of hipster "oh, I've been to Japan and trained under somebody with an impressive sounding name" will excuse poor tea making. Here's a hint. Ifyou are steeping for more than a minute, you are likely doing it wrong. Just read the directions, would'ja!
We loved it. We'll be back!
