I stumbled upon this place while waiting for a 5pm massage appointment at a place on the 2nd floor. I was immediately welcomed with a smile by the guy working behind the counter. As soon as I told him it was my first time here we struck up a great conversation. He showed me what types of foods they had and after I settled on a lunch box that included a panini, salad and other goodies, he mentioned that they switch out their salads every Wednesday to mix up the variety. I settled on a Lasagne slice, a Prosciutto Panini and an additional one to go with my lunch box. Their side wall was adorned with pickled and jarred items as well as pastas the like. On the far wall had their beverages and my lunch box came with my choice of drink. I settled on some Italian orange soda. Not sure what it tastes like but I will tomorrow for my lunch. They also have panini press machines. The nice guy offered to toast my panini. I only have a microwave at work so using that will just turn my panini into a solid rock. Microwaves and bread don't do well with each other. Overall a neat experience indeed. I think on my next visit I'll bring my wife with me so that she can try other things. She has a better eye at finding great things to eat more than I do.

We were welcomed on arrival and offered samples of cheese and freshly baked bread! In the glass case was an impressive selection of imported cheeses, they even had some Gouda from the Netherlands (Our favorite!) there's meat ready to be sliced, noodles, sauces, lasagna etc. I'm a sucker for a good panini and they have some ready to be pressed and eaten if you're hungry on arrival! I'm coming back for one of those! This is great spot if you want to have a cute date night at home and make your own pizza. That's what we opted for tonight. House-made dough and there was a variety of sauces on hand. There's a selection of goodies in jars along the wall, wine, sweets.... You've gotta stop in! This place is a must visit. We felt like we were visiting friends. They were so warm and welcoming.

They have a cozy indoor seating area with a classic bar backdrop. Or if you feel like sitting outside but being shielded from any wind, rain or coolness - there is a cute picnic table area out on a tree shaded side street. We had an out of town guest and we did not want to fuss with cooking at home nor sitting in a stuffy noisy (or super quiet) eatery! Sitting out side before sunset, was the perfect setting on our Monday night. Our waitress was super interactive and very genuine with her assessments of the dining & alcoholic beverage choices. For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. I was starving so we ordered the LARGE Radicchio salad and it was Big & filling. A side of fresh Broccolini complimented our individual entrees. My hearty Italian dish was the Ricotta Cavatelli. I even had enough for lunch the next day! My two lovely lady dinner mates had meals of Mafaldine pasta and Spinach Fettuccine (with Grana Padano cheese added). We gladly finished our comfortable dining experience with a shared and inhaled Tiramisu dessert. If you have time, spend a few minutes browsing the Italian Market refrigerated food and alcoholic options. Plus the well stocked and reasonably priced Italy sourced dry goods are worth a view

I've been a customer at both the Montelupo & Focacceria in Sellwood spots for quite some time now…read more  I came into Montelupo recently with my wife to place a takeaway order. The woman with dark brunette hair at the register (who processed the transaction below) was extraordinarily rude & impatient with us. Candidly, I've never been treated so poorly by someone taking my money before.  We were at the register for a mere 90 seconds, and it was nowhere near as busy as it has been in prior times that we've patroned the establishment. We also shared with this woman that we'd only order 4 dishes to go - and by the time we were ordering the final dish, she literally asked us to step out of line & come back later to order once we'd figured things out. I've never had a cashier ask that before. We proceeded to put in our final order and complete the transaction. I made a conscious decision not to include a tip due to the way she was treating us, and when she saw that I hadn't included the tip she gave me a dirty look, turned around and said nothing to us. Not even a "thank you" or "your order will be ready in X minutes". I had to check myself with my wife to see if I was misinterpreting the circumstances, and she responded "no, that was horrible service." When I came back 20 minutes later, this same woman was at the counter and refused to acknowledge me. I was standing 5 feet away, and there was not a single other customer in the market area. She just stood there looking elsewhere & avoiding eye contact. I finally saw the bartender come over and ask me if the order was mine - he picked up my order that had been sitting there and handed it to me.  I've never had an experience like this at Montelupo nor the Focacceria before. To be honest, I've never had an experience like that anywhere. It's hard for me as a paying customer to feel welcome in an establishment where the mentality of the cashier is adversarial toward patrons. It's very clear to me that the customer service at Montelupo has a long way to go to catch up to the quality of the food being served there. When I shared this feedback directly with Montelupo's management team, they never even responded. Clearly, they don't care about their patrons. I sadly won't be returning to Montelupo again as a customer - I value the money I work hard to earn, and want to spend it at businesses that value me as a customer.

Upon walking in, I was expecting flowers on the table and at the least a fully inflated balloon. Walked into a booth with a half inflated balloon and no flowers. Unfortunately, one of the executive chefs had left for an emergency which I understand. This left my wife and I unable to experience about half the menu. We ordered our appetizer and entrees at the same time, appetizer came out rather quickly which is expected as it was just bread and tomatoes. Although the entrees never made it out. We were given complimentary bread and tomato soup and a drink on the house for the long wait. Tons of delays because of one of the chefs not being present but over an hour and a half for entrees is crazy. Although our waitress was kind and accommodating, we decided that instead of wasting our time, we decided we would just pay for whatever we received. The waitress let us know that they waived everything and we left without a bill. Very disappointing but as it was our first impression, I'm hoping that it was just a rough night for them. No management came to our table with any kind of updates or apology. The waitress that helped us is the one getting praise.

The market is well-stocked with unique shelf items from around the world-- pastas, jams/jellies, biscuits, oils, vinegars, tinned fish, and legumes. They have a vast deli case with meats, cheeses, and prepared items. The meat and fish counter is magazine-worthy and they feature some hot-food specials using meats and sausages from their counter. The wine selection is expansive-- we even saw a few bottles from the Loire region of France which we had the great fortune decades ago to visit family friends. It was the produce area that really made my heart sing and my eyes bug out. The produce section is colorful, artfully arranged. I could practically feel the antioxidants beaming into my body! I have never seen SO many varieties of alliums in my life. They had four different types of "green onion" (scallion, green garlic, calçot, and red spring onion), plus mahoosive leeks. We had a great experience with service which was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Since we were out and about doing other things we didn't get anything that required refrigeration like cheese, meats or produce, but we did have sandwiches from the deli case which were tasty. I look forward to going back for some of the produce and cheeses.

Dearest gentle readers,…read more A most scandalous correction must be issued how careless of me. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. Until our next adventure ever eastward. Yours most faithfully,

They're open on Mondays, which is rare since many restaurants are closed, so it was nice to try it before leaving. My sister ordered the spaghetti and cheese with two large meatballs, garlic bread, and the Chicago beef with Italian sausage, and both were great. The meatballs were especially delicious. I just wish more were included, though extras are available to order. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan sandwich which was very cheesey and flavorful. Afterward, we noticed you can add pepperoni and make it a "Chicken Parmeroni," which sounds like a better option. The large antipasta salad with balsamic vinegar was fresh and tasty, and it's nice that you can choose your dressing . I really love the antipasta salad! Overall, a really enjoyable meal and definitely worth recommending! Wish there had been time to try more of the menu.

Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was like why I can find at home and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!
