I really wanted to like this place. I went because of the great reviews. The food was bad. Everything was extremely salty and poorly executed. My daughter's pasta was not good at all. My husband's steak was so salty he could not finish it. Both of them immediately said they would not come back. The hummus, specifically the burnt end hummus, was just okay. People hype it up as one of their best dishes. I do not get it. It was fine, but nothing special. The space itself is cute and quaint, and the servers were friendly. That said, the service was very slow. The restaurant was small and not busy, which makes the slow service feel like a process issue, not a crowd issue. The food came out quickly, but everything else dragged. One thing that really bothered me. I paid with cash and asked for my change. It took an unusually long time to get it back, to the point where it felt uncomfortable and intentional. That alone made me wary. The cocktail was the final straw. I ordered one of their featured drinks, priced around $15-$16. It was awful. They used very cheap well alcohol, which was shocking at that price point. It tasted bad and actually made me feel sick. If you are charging that much, you should be using decent spirits. I know this place is highly rated, but I genuinely do not see what others are seeing. Before I could even glance at the place, we were swiftly escorted to what felt like the restaurant's witness protection corner--despite a sea of empty tables right up front. This place is doing Mediterranean food a great service. Wow, we had heard great things from friends about this spot and it certainly lived up tot he hype. We came in for a celebratory dinner last week and had a reservation for the back patio. I'd definitely encourage reservations as the place fills up quickly. The inside of the restaurant had a charming rustic decor and smelled amazing with aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen. We were seated on the back patio which is a quaint space with a wood overhang and probably about 8 tables. It was a perfect evening and warm enough to enjoy eating outside. I'll note they do have heaters for cooler nights. Food wise we went with the fried chicken, corn bread, corn ribs, peaches, burnt end hummus and the kebab. Everything was fantastic. Standouts were definitely the hummus, which maybe was the best I've ever had, as well as the fried chicken. Everything had rich flavor and was easy to share which was perfect. The drinks we had were also tasty and added to the meal. The service overall was solid. Waiter was attentive and helped determine the right number of dishes. I would say you can get away with probably a few more than recommended. We were initially told 4 plates would be good but got 6 and wound up being full but still happy we got an extra 2. Loved this restaurant by the Sesame Collective. I love MEC but they don't have brunch, and I was so happy to come across a post on Instagram about this newish spot in Multnomah Village! First, they take resos for brunch. Hallelujah, I'm not trying to wait for a table anymore! Second, the ambiance is great. Bright enough and with tables spaced enough apart that you can hear each other speak. Third, the food selection is amazing - lots to choose from, and hope that your dining companions like to share! My friend and I shared the Dutch baby, khachapuri, and fried eggplant salad. The khachapuri is easily shareable, but first break up the yolk and spread the love! Its like a brunch pizza with the freshest of ingredients, savory and bright. The Dutch baby is smaller but still good to share with one other person. It came out sizzling in a skillet, with blackberries macerated with cardamon and some homemade whipped cream. I don't see Dutch babies on many menus and I have to get it when I see it. This one did not disappoint! The fried eggplant salad was also delish! 3 large,lightly battered eggplant slices over mixed greens dressed in a creamy dressing, with crispy potatoes and soft baked eggs. Small quaint space and one of many gems hidden at multnomah village!!! Reservations highly recommended but we were lucky enough to get seated fairly quickly at the bar. A beautiful salad was tucked under breaded and fried eggplant (melt-in-your mouth tender inside with a beautiful crunch on the outside). There were also some yummy potatoes hiding among the salad greens that were crispy on the outside. Mmmm. There was a sauce zig zagged on top that we loved. It added a punch of yum. Also the cardamom orange zest butter! Yes please! Next came the chicken & waffles. Perfect spot for foodies, date nights, and girls night out! The fried chicken was done perfectly - the outside was crispy and flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly tender, not dry at all. The hummus with burnt beef ends was a great appetizer, paired with the warm pita. We also really enjoyed the cornbread which was a perfect balance between the corn flavor and a sweetness from the glaze. Our server was on top of everything! Super fast to refill our water throughout the meal so we never had to ask. We made a reservation ahead of time to ensure we'd get a table. There was plenty of street parking (on a Sunday evening). I visited for brunch, and would love to come back to try their dinner menu. For brunch we tried the Turkish coffee, khachapuri, eggplant, and Dutch baby. This was the perfect amount of food for two people and we even had some to take home. I'd recommend everything we tried, I would order them all again! Delicious combo of egg and cheese and bread, baked to perfection. That plus the Dutch baby plus the crispy eggplant salad were our favorite things. Come with a group and get a bunch of things to share. I've tried most of their menu at this point and you really can't go wrong! Parking is OK if you look into surrounding neighborhoods. I was brought here for dinner on a 1st date & the only disappointing thing was that my date had requested a special table for us and we were not given it. Instead, we were seated out back. It was fine but not as nice as if we'd been able to sit inside. It was a cold and rainy night but the tent and heat lamps kept us warm.. but we were next to a wall - which rain ran down. Very authentic and typical for Oregon. We shared a steak dinner and a side of hummus. It was delicious and enough for 2. The steak was cut into strips and spread around a plate. Like the best pita I've ever had. Roasted cauliflower, stunned and the sauce, wow! Corn bread, also life-changing, though a bit more like a corn cake than bread, very sweet, could be a dessert. Peppers were such a big portion, I couldn't believe it. Garden pasta was good, but, I couldn't tell that the noodles were anything special, though house-made, but also great. Fries, a little miss. Salad, great! The Zaatar is wonderful. The unfortunate reason for the 3 stars was the service, and I want to be clear, I'm sure just an off night, but from the moment we were greeted, super un-friendly (hostess), and our server was less than interested and we ended up in a unfortunate misunderstanding, which she didn't handle professionally and put an end and stress to our otherwise great experience. The fire roasted peaches and charred eggplant were delicious. The smoked beef short rib was unctuous and rich and I loved it but it could have used something pickled to add some brightness. I'd still order it again. The Basque cheesecake was good if a little sweet. I'd order the berry sauce on the side in the future. The cucumber soda was bright and refreshing, pairing nicely with the bold and rich food. The Pastrami Hash was delicious. The meat was flavorful, and we enjoyed the potatoes and peppers. We also tried the Kchachapuri, which was the perfect mix of crunchy bread and creamy cheese. These dishes were rich and heavy, so i would definitely suggest ordering a salad or lighter dish to better balance the meal. For sweets, the chestnut donuts which were a big hit. Our server was super polite and also brought out a complementary cheesecake for my parent's anniversary. Super decadent and tasty!! Overall, we had a great experience at Yalla. This place deserves 10/10 for all the effort they went to for me and my allergies. I was diagnosed with a super complicated allergy this year which has made it impossible for me to eat out anymore. This sort of is a non option when I'm traveling and a place like this was worth the risk. The waiter listened to the details of my allergy very carefully and thoughtfully then marked up a menu with the chefs for me with the safest options and ingredient substitution possibilities for me. They took me so seriously and made me feel safe asking for what I needed. This place is also gorgeous. The back patio was such a vibe on a summer evening. The food is DIVINE. It's a great place for groups who might have mixed eating restrictions and they obviously understand the importance of freshness. Every dish we had clearly had a lot of thought in it and the execution was superb. All the textures were spot on. My favorite dish was the corn! So yum. Loved the wine I had too. All their wines are sourced from really unique and special places. Definitely worth getting a glass. The owner should be proud of the staff they have and the menu they have created. read more

We came here for the first time for Valentine's Day, and we're looking forward to trying their short rib, but it was out by the time we got seated.....pretty bummed about that, but will be back to try it next time! The ravioli was divine, but it only came with 7pieces, for $37.....12 pieces would be more sufficient for a main dish.
