Came here with a friend visiting from out of town after having a great experience at Shalom Y'all a few months ago and unfortunately was pretty disappointed. It's a nice location and was quite busy on a Tuesday night. We were sat right on time for our reservation. The server recommended 5-7 plates for our party of 3 and let us know that plates come out as they are made (pretty standard). Despite this, there seemed to be no pacing to how dishes came out. All of our dishes came out rapid fire one after another to the point where we didn't have time to finish the small plates and didn't have room on the table. The food itself was largely okay, but nothing to write home about. The two biggest plates we got were the pastrami and the short rib. The pastrami was somewhat dry, though the mustard it was served with was delicious. The short rib was tough and in the rub had one slice that was way too strong and overpowered all the other flavors. The hummus with burnt ends was good from a hummus perspective but the ends were super salty. The cornbread was delicious and probably the favorite plate of the table and the cauliflower was a close second. All in all, a pretty disappointing experience. Maybe it was just a tough night there and we'll give it another try. read more

After today, we've finally given up on this restaurant. This wasn't an isolated incident--it was the fourth bad experience we've had here and the third visit in a row where my meal arrived while my husband's did not. Each time, we were left waiting 15-20 minutes between meals, which meant my food sat getting cold while we waited for his. What is most frustrating is that nobody seems to recognize this as a problem. Whenever we asked about the missing order, there was never an apology or any acknowledgment that one person at the table was eating while the other had nothing. The response was always a casual "it'll be out soon." Today was the final straw. My food arrived (partially), but my husband's never did. We waited, asked about it, and received the same indifferent response. Meanwhile, my meal got cold sitting on the table. After a long wait and no sign of his order, we got up and left. I've never walked out of a restaurant without eating before, and we have given this place far more chances than most people would. Kitchen mistakes happen, but when the exact same failure occurs repeatedly and no one seems concerned enough to fix it, it stops being a mistake and starts looking like incompetence. Brunch is not complicated: people seated together should receive their meals at roughly the same time. After four disappointing visits and three consecutive experiences with the same issue, we've lost confidence that this restaurant can manage even that basic expectation. We came in for a celebratory dinner last week and had a reservation for the back patio. I'd definitely encourage reservations as the place fills up quickly. The inside of the restaurant had a charming rustic decor and smelled amazing with aromatic spices wafting from the kitchen. We were seated on the back patio which is a quaint space with a wood overhang and probably about 8 tables. It was a perfect evening and warm enough to enjoy eating outside. I'll note they do have heaters for cooler nights. Food wise we went with the fried chicken, corn bread, corn ribs, peaches, burnt end hummus and the kebab. Everything was fantastic. Standouts were definitely the hummus, which maybe was the best I've ever had, as well as the fried chicken. Everything had rich flavor and was easy to share which was perfect. The drinks we had were also tasty and added to the meal. The service overall was solid. Waiter was attentive and helped determine the right number of dishes. I would say you can get away with probably a few more than recommended. We were initially told 4 plates would be good but got 6 and wound up being full but still happy we got an extra 2. Small quaint space and one of many gems hidden at multnomah village!!! Reservations highly recommended but we were lucky enough to get seated fairly quickly at the bar. Highly recommend the fried chicken and splurge for the hot sauce!!! House made harissa was spicy but not overpowering but delicious compliment to the honey sauce!! Its like a brunch pizza with the freshest of ingredients, savory and bright. The Dutch baby is smaller but still good to share with one other person. It came out sizzling in a skillet, with blackberries macerated with cardamon and some homemade whipped cream. I don't see Dutch babies on many menus and I have to get it when I see it. This one did not disappoint! The fried eggplant salad was also delish! 3 large,lightly battered eggplant slices over mixed greens dressed in a creamy dressing, with crispy potatoes and soft baked eggs. Yalla is just the place for you. I want to write this while it's still totally fresh in my mind, after we just walked out. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes, nobody approached us, even though there was a bartender and a bar back. No acknowledgment whatsoever. Another couple came in and the bar back immediately asked them if they would like something to drink, and only after I said we still haven't ordered did he take our order--and then nothing happened. We watched the bartender make drinks for two orders before us and then several for orders that came in after we sat down. I really wanted to like this place. I went because of the great reviews. The food was bad. Everything was extremely salty and poorly executed. My daughter's pasta was not good at all. My husband's steak was so salty he could not finish it. Both of them immediately said they would not come back. The hummus, specifically the burnt end hummus, was just okay. People hype it up as one of their best dishes. I do not get it. It was fine, but nothing special. The space itself is cute and quaint, and the servers were friendly. That said, the service was very slow. The restaurant was small and not busy, which makes the slow service feel like a process issue, not a crowd issue. The food came out quickly, but everything else dragged. One thing that really bothered me. I paid with cash and asked for my change. It took an unusually long time to get it back, to the point where it felt uncomfortable and intentional. That alone made me wary. The cocktail was the final straw. I ordered one of their featured drinks, priced around $15-$16. It was awful. They used very cheap well alcohol, which was shocking at that price point. It tasted bad and actually made me feel sick. If you are charging that much, you should be using decent spirits. I know this place is highly rated, but I genuinely do not see what others are seeing.
