We remembered Thai Peacock as good. Several years and one approaching curtain time later, we decided to see whether memory had been seasoning the evidence. The friendly staff promptly showed us to our table. A QR code stood in for the menu, an arrangement I tolerate rather than celebrate. One quick request produced printed menus and restored diplomatic relations. We began with shrimp salad rolls, which arrived remarkably quickly, with crisp, fresh vegetables. The accompanying peanut sauce was flavorful without being thick or ponderous. Frankly, the only thing preventing me from drinking it was a lingering respect for table manners. My spouse ordered the Egg Noodle & Basil Stir-Fry, generously loaded with shrimp. I chose the House Thai Peacock Curry with tofu. Its combination of Panang curry and peanut sauce was rich and intriguing, with just enough spice to keep each bite interesting without turning dinner into a test of character. The food arrived quickly, our server remained friendly, and the lively atmosphere made Thai Peacock an excellent choice before a show at Portland Center Stage. How do I know about this restaurant? For a very brief period of time, I decided to DoorDash... on a bicycle. It was very brief, due to the fact that Portland's hills are... well, I'm in a good shape, but I won't be in the Tour De France. A side benefit is that I learned where a lot of good food in Portland resides: Thai Peacock and Little Peacock made up a fair amount of my orders. How much do I like Thai? So much that I learned to make it myself, and I make a better than average Pad See Ew/Kee Mao... So when it came time for a lunch break, well, I couldn't wait to order from Thai Peacock. I got the Pad Ka Phrao (there was not an option for super hot / Thai hot... my one complaint about their system... more on that in a minute)... and started walking. It was easy to pick up, well labeled, and hot when I arrived. The reusable bowl (for the paper bag crowd who are taking notes.. this is Portland ya know)... was full of delicious meat and vegetables. The rice was packed separately, along with the single serving of added sriracha. The serving was more than generous, and good in its preparation. There are some caveats here: Thai Peacock does not make their dishes in the same way that many other Thai restaurants do... they do it with minimal ingredients, hoping you'll add on vegetables. It gets annoying when you're looking at ordering pad se ew, and you might otherwise get a similar dish for $7-$10 cheaper. The lack of an ability to add additional heat is also unwelcome. However, I understand that each Thai restaurant has its own way of making a specific dish. The generous portions make the bare bones dish a good value, if not the best representation of the dish I've had. This would be 5* for a group meal (no shortage of options, and consistent service), and 4* based on comparison to other Thai dishes at similar price points I've had. 5* here based on what most people would likely say. An extremely reliable restaurant with tasty food and generous portions deserves it. read more

This place is one of our all-time favorites! This was probably our 10th visit, and once again, we tried a few different dishes, left happy, and satisfied. I ordered the Thai Peacock Special Curry with chicken at spice level 2 (out of 3). After the first bite, I realized it was a little too spicy for me. I asked our waitress if it could be replaced, and she kindly obliged. The replacement curry came out in just five minutes and was delicious! My husband ordered the Basil Chicken, which was amazing, and he finished every bite. We also had the tom yum soup with veggies, which felt like a warm, comforting hug on a cool evening. We were immediately seated upstairs and the place filled up shortly after we got there. Our waiter didn't have a warm personality, but he was efficient. I don't like how their menus are only QR code available - makes it tough with kids. But we got an assortment of dishes - pad thai with tofu (delicious), pad see ew (delicious), and pad kee mao (really good). The larb appetizer was a generous portion -- probably enough for five or six people! It was also tasty, with the flavors of fish sauce, lime and chili blending nicely. There were some nice chunks of chilis visible. The mixed seafood Pad Khi-Mao (their spelling of a dish I've seen spelled a number of different ways) was also delicious. Fiery, loaded with umami and balanced by basil, onions, scallions and tomato. The textures were perfect: the shrimp and calamari were firm, but not chewy. They were super tender, so juicy, literally the most perfect meatballs. Topped with some kind of cream sauce and lots of fresh green onion, it was perfect. I also got the massaman curry with tofu, which was a very generous portion! It was a good curry! And I loved the default rice not being plain white rice, mine had some kind of sprouted grain that (I feel like lol) made it more appetizing and fulfilling. This restaurant was definitely one of our favorites during our Oregon trip. There's a parking lot across the street so it's easily accessible. My friend and I both walked in around 2pm. The servers greeted us immediately and sat us down upstairs. It felt very homey, cozy and great vibes. Customer service was great! Ambiance was even better and the food was AMAZING. I came here on a Thursday evening and my had a great experience! It's a modern looking restaurant in downtown Portland. We got Thai Tea, Gyoza, Khao Pad, and Pad Thai. The Thai tea was soooo bomb! The sweetness level was perfect and it was only $3! I definitely recommend you order the Gyoza, they were cooked perfectly and had a very nice crunch. The Khao Pad was a flavor bomb!! I also liked that they served lime juice in a cup so you aren't fighting with a little lime peel. Service was flawless and very attentive, the inside of the restaurant was also very mellow and intimate. We've eaten Pad Thai in many places.... My most reliable / favorite Thai food in all of Portland. Whenever I need to chose a place to eat downtown / pearl district I ALWAYS choose Thai Peacock. Came in as a group of 4 and was promptly seated. We decided on starting with an appetizer and two mains and would order more if we were still hungry. For appetizer, we got the laab spring rolls which was piping hot crunchy and paired well with the spicy sour sauce that was served with it. While delicious, my Thai friend said it did not taste like laab but still very good. For our mains, we got the pad see ew and pad khi mao. Both were very tasty and the rice noodles were cooked perfectly. Not too soft and it maintained a nice chew. I do wish there was a little bit more char on the stir fry though as I feel like that's a highlight in any stir fried Thai noodles dish for me. I also would've preferred a little more veggies in each dish. We asked for chili and they came back with this beautiful box of 4 different chili selections. Thai Peacock was near our hotel and we were craving something warm on a cold Portland day. We walked in around 645 on a saturday night and waited 20ish minutes for a table for 2. The staff were nice but seemingly understaffed so the service was a little slow because each person was managing multiple different things. I will say it's smaller on the inside even with the two stories so when there are multiple parties waiting, it's cramped. We wanted to try a cocktail and got the lychee daiquiri which is not as sweet as you would expect a daiquiri to be, which for me was a highlight because I don't typically like my drinks incredibly sweet. It was refreshing. We split the thai peacock curry and pad phet with tofu. We asked for spicy and they delivered. Definitely our favorite meal on our girls weekend.
