    Sakoo
    Wendy S.

Came here with a friend to try the Portland dining month prix fixe menu and also ordered the tomkha to share. The soup tasted good and I liked how there were different types of mushroom in it. What I didn't like was how the coconut milk was a bit coagulated in there. Doesn't look that appetizing. The sakoo was a hit. It's a tapioca ball with a savory umami filling. We both enjoyed it a lot. The main course looked pretty but was a total disappointment. The dish was under seasoned (I might even call it unseasoned at that point). I had to add a ton of chili and fish sauce to it. It also didn't come out hot. It was barely room temp. My egg was fully cooked while my friend's had a runny yolk so quality control could be better. The dessert just looked and tasted like a store bought mango ice cream dressed up with a bit of whipped cream and something like a mango syrup. It probably won't be restaurant that I would revisit but I would go just to eat the sakoo once in a while because they are that tasty! Plenty or street parking on the area on a weekday.

I love the ambiance of this place. It is inviting, relaxing and lovely inside. Easy to find street parking. The service is excellent! The food is unique, delicous and some menu item are spicy!. This is some of the besr thai food I have had in some time. They have excellent curries, salads, and noodle dishes. Vegatarian friendly, large portions and pretty good prices.

Was super excited to come here given all of the fantastic reviews. Unfortunately I think it's still a little early in their journey to give it a try. I think they need some time to mature. I'll start with the atmosphere which I do think is great. It's charming and pleasant inside with a warm atmosphere and great amount of light. It's in a fun area and a good place for small-mid size groups. The service unfortunately was quite disappointing. We came in on a Sunday around lunch, and there was only one person to service the entire room. I get they're doing what they can but it just wasn't up to par for the prices. Every one of our (4) dishes came out at a different time which left people awkwardly wondering if they should eat or wait for the next dish. Our 2nd order of wings was forgotten and by the end of the meal there was no urgency in clearing the table despite the fact we were the only table still there. Generally just disappointing. Food wise I think the food was solid but not standout. The wings were tasty. The phad Thai while flavorful had super bland chicken. The khao so we got had tons of fatty beef that was inedible. Just wasn't our favorite. I would consider giving them another try when they start to figure out the service but for now I would wait until they dial it in more.

YUI is a newer family-owned Thai restaurant that is a welcome addition to the Belmont neighborhood. To get here, there is street parking directly in front of the shop and around the area. Inside, they a beautiful, modern, and spacious setup with some nice Anthony Bourdain quotes too. Wifey and I pulled up with a couple friends for lunch and we were seated right away. For their menu, they have all the classics along with other authentic dishes not commonly found at other Thai eateries. We ended up getting the Shu Mai, Khanom Chin Nam Ngiao, and the Pad Thai Chicken. Everything that we had was flavorful and delicious. All of the staff here ever kind and welcoming. Definitely stop by if you are ever in the area and show them some support!

Great open spot and plenty of seating. We reserved a party of 5 on a weekday and were promotly seated. Ordered the KadPrao Wagyu beef that has veggies and riceberry. I opted for Medium spice. The spice level was right on the money. Had a really nice time here and water was quickly refilled. Gotta say, the playlist of Brittany Spears and Gaga was unexpected but absolutely loved by all of us! Thank you fir a wonderful experience!

Coconut mung bean dessert, served warm. Sweet and a bit salty - great balance!

Yui is back but in a new Belmont location! The food here is so good and according to my friend who's been living there for a few years, on par with what you'd get in Thailand. The menu is pretty small and has options that I've never seen before, like their sakoo, a tapioca dumpling that's sweet and savory and so addictive. Between visits so far, I've tried the kra pau, larb subbed with tofu, green curry chicken , khao soi, panang curry chicken, sakoo, shumai, happy hour tofu, and the happy hour seafood snack. For dessert, they were out of the Thai tea creme brûlée so we ended up getting their coconut custard which ended up being a surprise favorite - the warm, creamy and slightly chewy texture of the mung bean bottom with coconut on top was absolutely perfect! Everything has been quite good, but I would say the curries seem extra salty compared to other places - to the point where I'd prefer to get take out and then add a bunch of veggies to help balance the saltiness. And I wish the curries had a bit more protein in them, for the prices. Excited to see how they do and to come back to try more of their menu - or to do takeout and add more veggies.

We recently came here for a meal and they were also part of Portland Dining Month. We ordered the $55 set menu (crispy rice salad, Massaman curry, mango sticky rice) along with some other dishes - larb, pad kee Mao, and kradookmootodkratiem (pork ribs). I would say the crispy rice salad, massaman curry and pad kee Mao were the winners for me. The pork ribs were a bit on the dry side. The place is well decorated and had a nice ambiance to it.

    Very good Thai food

Quiet . Intimate . Service seems personal . Enough to sample from menu to keep coming back . Everything I have had tastes great . However , some things on menu are not new . Wagyu beef is well seasoned and added to a few dishes . Boat noodle soup is good . The three course meal I had was what brought me back . Unfortunately , I cannot remember the names of my entree . Hard to pronounce most menu names , let alone to remember .

The restaurant has a nice ambiance. We had the khao soy which was on the salty side. The siu mai was good but a little dry. The drinks were yummy.

Khanom Jeen Nam Ngiao is a Northern Thai rice noodle soup with a spicy tomato and pork broth.

Yui has special dishes outside the regular menu that are absolutely worth trying. The food was delicious, full of flavor, and beautifully prepared. Excellent service, friendly staff, and a wonderful dining experience overall. Highly recommend!

From start to finish, everything was outstanding. My husband and I both agreed some of the best food we've ever had.

KraDookMooTodKratiem (garlic sauce over pork rib topped with cilantro and crispy garlic) So tender and tasty!!

Yui has returned! Delicious Thai food, very comforting and tasty. Pork ribs were oh, so tender and the sauce served with it lightened the richness of the pork. Fish sauce wings were also juicy and sticky, if you're not use to eating whole wings, it may be tricky for you to eat. I'd say it's worth figuring it out! I look forward to going back and trying more dishes!

You will dream about the sakoo.

I love the interesting combination! Note: pretty much everything has some spice to it, so for kids, the jasmine rice and yu choy are the main items, though my older daughter did ok with the fried chicken and brisket! Music was great, and all of the food flavors were bold. Though flavor combinations were unique, everything was cohesive. They were packed on a Wednesday for lunch, so I'm glad we got here before noon to snag a table. I wish the Bay Area had more interesting fusion done right like this (I feel like fusion is a bad word in the food world...)

You can watch them frying the roti in front of you, they have a great flavor (they're a bit on the thick side), and the curry is absolutely sublime, with an incredible depth of spices without being hot. I also really enjoyed the freshness and textural blend of the "rice salad," with great cucumbers and herbs, although it was too spicy for my dining companions. I admit I didn't think the fried chicken was anything special--the chicken was moist (even the white meat), but the outside could have been crunchier. But I'm not the biggest expert in fried chicken, nor in pad thai, and both were certainly competent even if not as exceptional. Sticky rice was also cooked perfectly.

There is only one vegetarian item on the menu, the veggie curry. It's sort of an afterthought, throwing a bone for the vegetarians in the group. (Could they not make a vegetarian version of the Southern pad thai, just to be a pal?) The curry sauce is tasty, but the veggies were completely undercooked. Raw, tough, spongy pieces of underdone eggplant. It was like the person cooking it did not know what to do with a vegetable. The roti is tasty (I'm not familiar enough with Southern Thai to critique it). But if there's just one veggie item on the menu, and it's just vegetables in a curry sauce, I feel a restaurant should take pride in getting it right. Seating is a little tight, but somehow that adds to the atmosphere as you end up sharing a table with strangers, which is fun. Service is fast and food came out fast (too fast, in the case of those poor eggplants).
