We happened to be in town for the day and when we saw this place was walking distance from where we were, with great reviews, we decided to give it a try. Super happy we did, definitely a place I would come back to again. We assumed it would be a nice little deli we could get a sandwich from but we underestimated what we were walking in to. It was much larger than expected and there were so many things to choose from. They had chairs where you could dine in but you could also just pick up a cart, shop around, and take things to go. It was very busy which is always a good sign! They had little stations with different food options. Soups, sandwiches, meatloaf, Mac and cheese, pizza, meats, cheeses, and so much more. They also had a lot of ready to go meals you can just grab and go. We ended up deciding to get a couple baguettes, some cheese, olives, and meats. When we were choosing cheese and meats to get the person who helped us was so kind and took his time letting us try things before we made our final decisions. He had excellent suggestions and definitely had a lot of knowledge. We ended up getting probably more than we needed but it was so fun and as we are from across the bridge, we wanted to get as much as we could. I also got a little box of their Mac and cheese which was also yummy! Overall, I would come back and would def recommend this place to others! Especially if you want to get things for a charcuterie board or a little picnic!

Love the sense of community and all the options to get a high quality lunch and sit in such an inviting space. Food is so good. We unfortunately had a rude service person behind the counter when we came in which was disappointing. They seemed flustered with the number of people wanting to order sandwiches and all I could think was, really? There is always space to be kind.

I considered this cafe as a gem in Downtown Portand. I ordered a deli sandwich and an iced coffee. My coffee took a while to be prepared because the barista forgot, but she was extremely nice and offered me a coupon for a free coffee on my next visit. I loved being able to sit outside and people watch while enjoying my beer and coffee at the same time. Lots of cool shops to check out within walking distance such as Muji.

Outside aside, this is the type of indoor food market/cafe that will turn heads with a very nice food menu and home accessories with a creative flair as you walk from station to station. Since I was in town for several days to care for my daughter after her surgery, this was one pleasant stop for a super light lunch. Whether you wanna call Elephants Deli an indoor food market/food hall/food court/slash this/slash that, it's all that and a bit more. The roomy digs host several stations in a sunlit light space. If you're clearly craving variety under one roof, like sandwiches in one space, Neapolitan pizza in another nook, cheeses+meats elsewhere, etc, Elephants is it. My kid went for an open avocado sandwich with a unique small tomato+orange bisque. My Tillamook grilled cheese was super cheesy and pull-apart stringy- but it was my cream of mushroom- with a touch of sherry that was every bit satisfying on a cozy afternoon. Plus the service from folks prepping your meal, are swell. This deli has won my heart with its fuzzy-feeling/comfort food selections. And with gift-giving season on the horizon, don't forget that as you're waiting for your food to be prepped or warmed, head towards the back and check out their seasonal home accessories.

I like here. The food is good, but a little expensive for the portions. I like the staff and overall setup here. When it's warm out you can sit outside. I would definitely come back to try more. I had just a burger, fries, chocolate chip cookie and soup. All were very good, but ask to try the soups first, some are too salty.

Very good! We came here around 1:30 on Sunday. It was not too crowded. Great atmosphere. Ample seating indoors and outdoors. The decoration was fitting to the environment. Great selection of food. Fit the bill of what we needed. There weren't too many descriptions of the sandwich easily available. That was the only down side. We ordered the Italian sandwich and another sandwich I forget the name of it. Highly recommend. It was excellent and delicious.

I stopped here on my way through Portland on a road trip and it was the perfect lunch. Lots of yummy prepared foods as well as burgers, pizza, fries, and more things you could order. They have coffee and drinks too. This place has everything. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. I will say it is a bit expensive but I appreciated all the healthy and fresh options.

My first time visiting this location. I've had their food many times but didn't realize the amount of items they offer here, like a little grocery store.

Visited here on the recommendation of a Pittock Mansion volunteer and I loved it so much it was the only place I visited twice on my trip! Parking lot which is free with a 1 hour limit to customers. Both times I visited I went to the sandwich counter and got Mama Leones soup which was so delicious. I got the turkey and cheddar sandwich and added avocado. The next visit I got the tuna salad and added cheese and avocado to that. Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. I love that there's so many food and drink options. If you don't find seating in the main area there's a lovely room in the back where you can sit.

Atmosphere: Bright, spacious atmosphere with a little market attached. More of a fast-casual type setup Food: The elephant's cure soup is a standout. Really delicious and one of my favorites. The turkey reuben wasn't as good. Price: Some of the sandwiches are a bit steep. Soup is reasonable. Overall, probably a bit pricier than it should be but the food is reasonable Service: Decent Parking: I think there is a parking lot. Otherwise street parking

The tomato bisque was seriously the best I've ever had and everyone working there seemed to love their job which made us love being there.

I used to stop at Elephants for breakfast on my way to work around 6 am to 7 am. Will Elephants ever have early morning hours again? McDonalds stopped indoor dining permanently and Kingston opens at 9 also. Starbucks is the only early option.

It also suffers slightly from that association, as one might consider it "hospital food", with all of its sordid associations. Thankfully, I can confirm there's nothing to worry about here. It's not "top shelf" sushi, by any means, but what they offer is still delicious, prepared competently and quickly, and priced affordably. My wife and I dined here after an entire half-day spent in a series of appointments and check-ups, and were famished by the time we wandered over to check this place out (we'd been meaning to ever since our last extended visit to OHSU). Among the multiple rolls in our order, the Miso Sexy and the Valentine rolls stood out among our favorites; they also make a decent miso soup here, too: not too watery, not too strong, but just right! As my wife is pregnant (again!), I know another visit to Momiji is on the horizon, as we will definitely be delivering at OHSU again. When that time comes, there's no doubt I'll be sneaking out of the delivery room, skipping the cafeteria, and making a bee-line straight for this place, likely smuggling a spicy tuna hand roll or two back with me (my wife's favorite).

I was looking for food nearby and came across this restaurant. The food was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, kama-age udon (hokkai miso soup), and the kama-meshi seafood. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! Seating and service: We were seated really quickly as we went on a weekday! They have several tables and a large table that can be reserved as well as bar spots. The restaurant overall looks really nice and is pretty spacious. The servers were really nice and fast to get you what you need! A side note: they have heated toilet seats in their restroom so that's always a plus!

While a few things stood out, the meal as a whole didn't quite hit the high marks I was hoping for. Here is how it broke down: The Starters (The Highlight): Karaage (Fried Chicken): This was easily the best part of the meal. The pieces were large, juicy, and had a great, ultra-crispy crunch on the outside. Takoyaki: Decent texture and well-presented on a long plate with plenty of bonito flakes, making it a solid appetizer to share. The Mains (A Bit Average): Spicy Ramen: The noodles had a good chew, but the broth lacked the deep, rich complexity you expect from a really stellar ramen. Even with the spicy paste mixed in, the flavor profile felt a bit flat. Chashu Don (Rice Bowl): While it was a generous portion packed with chopped chashu and minced meat, it ended up tasting a bit monotone after a few bites and could have used more balance or a punchier sauce. Overall, it's a fine spot if you want a quick, filling meal, but the flavors didn't quite wow me enough to make it a standout. Solid, but nothing mind-blowing.

The best thing about it was the location, beautiful area right on the water and the restaurant itself was pretty. The food was fine, but nothing really stood out for me. Maybe I am spoiled living in Los Angeles where there are so many Dim Sum places and dumpling houses. The concept with this restaurant is that it is family style, so it is meant to share, which is great, but the portions I would are small for family style. The noodles are enough for one, dumplings and potstickers, I guess for a small family may be ok, but we had a large group, so we had to order 3-4 of each thing just so people could have some. Probably my favorite thing on the menu were the sweet and spicy cucumbers, although not spicy at all, which was a trend. The dishes that were supposed to be spicy were not, even when we asked for the chili oil, that somehow did not have a spice level to it that was measurable. We ordered cucumbers, noodles, potstickers, dumplings and baos all have options for fried and steamed we got some of each, fried rice, beef pancake rolls, five spice beef, spicy beef (which both tasted the same) and some other items. The best things for me were the cucumbers, the fried potstickers and the jasmine tea. They bring you the dishes as they are ready so the service is constant as they come out. Can be a little slow, but our server was nice and kept track of everything for us and made sure our drinks were full, thank you. Atmosphere - 5 Service- 4 Food - 3 If the location and atmosphere was not so amazing, probably would have given a 3 based on the food, not bad and some high points, but mostly just average IMO. Great vibes here though and would probably come back for that alone and see if it is a different experience with a smaller group or a single family. Enjoy!
