Stopped in on a Saturday for lunch - just after opening so there was no line or wait. Tables for seating are out on the sidewalk and it's not the nicest surroundings so, heads up! Spicy Chicken - perfectly cooked and seasoned, rice was a nice complement, the salad cooled everything off. Delish! Hot pastrami with lots of onions - moist sandwich, filled to the edge of the bun. $24 for the 14" - save half for later, it's worth it. Stopped by this place yesterday. I got 2 sandwiches to share. One was the teriyaki Philly cheesesteak. IMO it was mid the cheese was not melted and did not have a lot of flavor other than the teriyaki. The other was a pastrami which was much better. The bread could have been better. I got both sandwiches in the largest size they had which was 14" and cost $24 a piece which is so overpriced for what they are. More than likely won't be back. This little gem is off broadway near my fav sushi spot. It's a small shop. Everything is made to order. If you don't want sammiches they have bento boxes you could order. Good option for folks who can't agree on one food spot to try. We ordered 3 sammiches in our party. I got avocado, Turkey and bacon. No onions, subbed pepper jack, and add bell peppers. It was delicious. Someone else got a build your own- hot pastrami w cheese. Last person got bulgogi steak. FYI this comes with all the toppings so if you want to keep to Asian flavors, ask them to remove everything you don't want or build your own. I loved my sammich until the last few bites. lol someone put a fat bit of raw onion in my sammich and it blew my whole palate. I tried the bulgogi meat and it was yummy but too salty and sweet for my preference. The person ordering this sammich hates Mayo so they asked if it came with it and asked for no mayo just in case. But didn't realize you get American toppings on it by default. So order without or build your own. Overall loved it. Will definitely come back. lol maybe go to my fav sushi spot and then pick up a sammich to go for later. It was worth the carb cheat meal. I loved the bread my sammich was on. While they do have a few Asian style sandwiches, many are similar to other delis. They do have rice and teriyaki dishes, which I'm told are delicious. The prices here are pretty fair and you get a good amount of food for the price. It can be busy during lunch and you might be waiting outside. Try to order ahead for pickup. I got the famous tickler sandwich. I can't recall the size, but they have three options. It was packed full of meat and I could not finish it in one sitting. The other small complaint that I have is that it needs some seasoning or condiments such as a mustard or vinegar. I asked for oil and vinegar but there wasnt any on the sandwich. I really enjoy the Korean inspired sandwiches especially the Kimchi Bulgogi, however their cold cut sandwiches are awesome as well. Awesome portions and really high quality ingredients. When we discovered this place a few months ago, I seriously lamented nearly every sandwich decision I had made in the last 2 decades because I didn't know this place existed... I lived in Alaska for about 10 years and always made Taste Tickler a destination when I came through Portland. My only complaint is that they are no longer open on Sundays. We got the spicy bulgogi and now I dream about it at night. it's a bit cold in the seating area outside but they have some space heaters set up. The meat itself was so flavorful and cut into small pieces so it was more manageable to eat. They put so much meat on the beautifully tasty bread that pieces were falling out. I'm drooling just thinking about it. They also put on pickles, lettuce, and tomato. This sandwich is it. My dad got the chicken teriyaki and my mom got the BAE. She said it's the best sandwich she's ever eaten in her 60 years of life. My dad really likes his sandwich as well. This was a recommendation from a local and I'm so so happy I took their advice. It's a cute hole in the wall sandwich spot that's been there since 1971- over 50 years! They have a variety of sandwiches and they are popular! There was a line of people the whole time we were there, so walk ups and some preorders. I got the famous tickler so to everything and it was such a delicious combination. The bread was soft and fresh and they were generous with the meat and veggies. I ordered the small size, but if I was local I would totally order the larger sandwich and have a few meals from it- it's so good I could eat it a few meals in a row and be super happy. There are also so many options on the menu, everyone in your family or friend group would be able to find something they'd like. I think I'll have to go back and try the food again to give a better rating but I am not huge on soggy bread and when I got back home to eat the Bulgogi sandwich, half the bread was completely soggy and wet which turned me off from eating it. The flavor of the bulgogi was pretty good but tasted like it had been cooked in lots of soy sauce or hoisin sauce. Overall kind of upset from all the hype but I am determined to give them another shot and maybe try one of their other popular subs. Side note: the large sun comes with A LOT of meat/food. I thought it wasn't going to be that big trying to compare a subway sub to this, I was poorly mistaken and it ended up being more than I could eat, even if I was really hungry and wanted the entire sandwich. read more
