    northwest burrito
    Ann N.

i really liked my burrito! i got the northwest burrito because i love lamb and it did not disappoint. the flavors all went well together and i especially love that they use saffron rice. i kind of wish i got more vegetables but i didn't think to ask until after my food came. i would have liked it more if it was less greasy, but i still enjoyed it nonetheless. i also love how they toasted each side of the burrito so that i was slightly crispy. they served it to me at the table and i bussed it myself. the space is clean and its the perfect place to grab lunch!

Always receive amazing service from the staff here. They always seem upbeat and happy to be there. Ordered the chicken plate and lamb & beef gyro to-go. Food was very fresh and the fries are almost like the yellow arches but better flavor. Order was ready right on time. There are a few tables inside if you want to dine in. Parking around the building can be hard to find as this is located in NW Portland in Slabtown so plan ahead. Definitely think the gyro is the best.

Really great first impression. I went with the chicken plate. Hummus was good and had some great spicy kick. I loved the chicken & onion/tomato. It was $16 with tip, but that's what you're going to pay for lunch in Portland unless you go to a national chain. Will be back to try their gyro + more.

The beef/lamb gyro was delicious, tho smaller than the average gyro you see out there. The meat was tender, the bread was soft, and the fries were crispy. Everything just overall tasted very fresh. My wife had the chicken plate and it was equally delicious and the portions were very generous! I was expecting the typical Mediterranean food experience but this was definitely a step above that and at a good price. The staff was courteous and the space cozy. The kombucha on tap was also very nice. No doubt we will be back soon.

Used to be the chunkiest amount of octopus on a plate. Delish bacon wrapped grape leaves are always ordered. Garlicky hummus yummy. No indoor seating, only orders to-go. Service is mediocre knowing they always get a lunch rush regardless of friendliness. During the spring to fall, a couple tables outside shaded by the building. Area still susceptible to sketchy passerbys.

No parking so ordered to go. Tried chicken scapallini and it was pretty good. Reasonably priced.

The country fried steak was tasted old. Breading was kinda dusty. It was crispy but when bitten into, it broke apart. The bacon omelette saved the review. Loved it.

The Octopus Salad was a hit and I will absolutely be coming back! I walk by this spot fairly often but never thought to stop by. A coworker suggested we go for lunch and our team went. There is a lot on the menu! The options are great. There is a lot of variety. I feel like you cannot go wrong. I was really drawn to the octopus so I ordered the salad. The octopus was a generous portion and cooked to perfection! The salad was great. The squid ink rice was so good! I loved the bread that was included. Service was amazing. We didn't wait too long and our orders were bagged together even though we paid separate. The inside is very snug and might not accommodate groups, but 2-3 could likely dine together. Not enough room for the 5 of us though. I will absolutely be back! I tried some of the chicken rice bowl and I need to get that too.

Love this place!!! It's one of the best hidden gems in Portland. Bring your appetite because this place does not skimp in quantity. In fact, quality is far up there as well. I typically order their fish tacos, which, in my opinion, some of the best fish tacos you'll find in town and for a very fair price to top. Today, I ordered their seafood plate. It consists of salmon, tina, octopus, and shrimp over squid ink rice with a side of hummus, pita, and a salad. I was not disappointed. This is good eating.

I read several reviews that this place was amazing so I had to try it. I'm not sure if I caught them on an off day, but the food is nothing spectacular. I actually found their chicken mixture on the chicken plate to be too overwhelming with flavor and not as much meat. The mix had a lot of onions in it. The plate itself was good in terms of the pita, hummus, salad and saffron rice. Overall, I was disappointed based on the reviews I had read. It is very small on the inside, so seating is limited. The staff were all kind and welcoming.

Pork&Lamb gyro with side salat and yelp sunglasses (those are not on the menu here)

Wow this place is a hidden gem! Tucked away in some regular living building without any other store around you need to want to go here or live around! Either way it's just a short walk from the neighborhood stores like new season market. And if you like this style of Mediterranean food you are wanna go here! First you need to be hungry cause the portions size is decent even me was happy not ordered an appetizer. Second you should be a "meat" lover - or better protein lover since they do seafood as well. In a regular gyro you normally find at least 70% filler - meaning Salat, tomatoes and sauces and then the rest is protein. And that is fine since that is one of the reasons the Mediterranean kitchen is so healthy a good measure of the healthy stuff. But here at Gastro Mania they have 60% protein (in my case I ordered lamb&pork gyro) and then some salat with a good tzatziki and aioli to give it some spice. Also they make the head and grill the meat portion fresh so it is really hot when you get the gyro (which I really appreciate- hot food tastes better!). I had a small side salad (fresh and crispy) which added an extra USD so I ended up $13 before tip. There is a menu picture on yelp where it says $7 those times are long gone. But I think at the time of the review March 2024 $12 for this gyro is fair. I will surely be a regular even when I do not live in this part of the town any longer - but know I know it's here!

Service was quick and food was tasty. My partner and i got a chicken gyro and a lamb one to share. We both liked the lamb one the best.

I came in with friends who are vegan and gluten-free, and before we even had to ask, the staff marked up our menus with everything they could eat. Not just a couple sad options either. A ton of them. This kind of consideration is something I've noticed across Portland, and it's a big part of why I love visiting. Food-wise, we had some real standouts. The roasted carrots were deeply flavorful, the curried black lentil salad had that perfect balance of hearty and bright, and the tahini ice cream was one of those desserts you keep thinking about after the trip ends. Also, do not skip the beer with a slushy float. It sounds chaotic, but somehow it works. Fun, refreshing, a little unexpected. Come hungry, especially if you're dining with mixed dietary needs. My husband & I, my sister and my son all went for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but we were all pleasantly surprised. Everybody but me got the spiced lamb souvlai, which was ground meat on a skewer. I tried the oregano chicken. Mine was tender, flavorful grilled chicken. I loved it! I have always thought of souvlaki as a Greek version of a gyro-meat in a pita wrap with sauce & veggies. Not here. You get the meat and a pickled vegetable and that's it. That's why you need some sides and bread. The bread is better than a lot of pita I've had. We also got an order of hummas (some of the best I've had anywhere. Maybe it's because they put a dab of zhoug-a mixture of herbs & spices packed with flavor. It was as smooth as silk), as well as beet salad. It had quinoa that seemed to have been fried because it had a slight crunch which I loved. It was the perfect foil for the golden beets and radish in the salad. We ordered just the right amount of food for the 4 of us (one piece of pita each, one salad, one hummus and an order each of souvlaki). I noticed some vegetarian options on the menu as well. We all agreed we want to come back and bring the spouses who couldn't make it. Looks like I forgot to take pics of the meat. You'll just have to be surprised!

I loved the wood fire as it kept us warm. As for the food it was not bad but not good either. The wedge salad is one of my favorite salads but the Bluto Wedge has a lot going on. Too many rich flavors, to the point of too much. It tasted like horseradish, with dill, and bacon grease. I personally love the taste of salad so don't need mine drenched in dressing like this one was. The Greek fries were cooked well but again too salty and over seasoned.
