Stumbled looking for a healthy brunch and it was busier than expected! Salmon hash was amazing. I did ask for more dill sauce and hot sauce and it made so much better! The turmeric golden chai was also amazing I enjoyed every item I bought here. The staff were all friendly but they were so busy. It did take a while for our food to come out. We sat in the patio and it was super nice out. Will be back to try other dishes !

Healthy | friendly staff | Allergy friendly So happy to have found this place! I feel so seen at this allergy friendly spot: gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, and seed oil free! That is rare! Come here to eat healthy real food. It's a cute little cafe where you order first and then sit down. Bus your table after. The staff is friendly and their menu is excellent! I had a hard time picking what to eat, but I ended up going with the salmon salad. The person at the front said their popular items are the waffles and borscht. Both sound delicious, so maybe I'll try it next time. Their menu is unique and not the usual selection on a lunch menu, like a deli sandwich. Every plate is presented beautifully too. They put my large salmon salad on a bed of lettuce and topped it with beets, pomegranate, a radish, and what looked like flower petals/buds. I saved 1/4 of my lunch to-go. My husband had their salmon hash with potatoes, and let me tell you, that egg on top looked delicious. I saw some other folks ordering that, so it seems like a popular item on the menu too. We also ordered the matcha latte with coconut milk and the Bastion pink latte. Bastion pink latte is tasty and healthy (beets, cherry, maple syrup, ginger, and substituted with coconut milk). No caffeine though! I loved my matcha latte because it wasn't too bitter and not too sweet (I had honey for sweetener), but it was creamy and delicious with the coconut milk. The salmon is excellent, not too smokey.

What a cool place. I met a friend here for a late lunch on a weekday and I was surprised how busy it was. We ordered at the counter and the service was helpful and friendly. The acorn waffles were delicious and the chicken salad wasn't bad. I was happy they had sparkling wine on offer as well as some intriguing hot beverages. Also, it is gluten free! I'll be able to return with friends who need that option.

Came to Bastion on the Friday after Thanksgiving with my sister. My sister has known she's had celiac since she was little - and I naturally steer towards a gluten free diet. I got the: * Energizing Matcha Latte w/ coconut milk and honey - amazing. Good quality matcha - no upset tummy * Salmon Salad / half pint: deliciously shredded Salmon, a light and fueling oil dressing blend, pumpkin seeds, celery - very good, very fueling! I didn't have my sisters food / she did love the fried chicken just didn't vibe with the flavor profiles of the waffle and the side addition of bell peppers

Amazing! The food is so fresh, the ingredients are high quality, the GF bread is incredible and they were even sweet enough to bring out some salmon for our dog. It's a very small establishment so you may be waiting awhile for your food or to find a place to sit, but it is 100% worth the wait. Highly recommend!

Favorite brunch in Portland! Love that you don't have to worry about many allergens (all gluten, dairy, and seed oil free!) and that the meals are balanced to provide plenty of veggies and protein (founded by a nutritionist!). The flavors are there too!! The acorn and sweet potato waffles are my favorite on the menu along with the pink latte. I've also tried their chicken soup and smoked salmon bagel-- both were amazing! The only thing that would make it better would be if the side salad dressing had more acidity or saltiness-- it was mostly oil, like it wasn't mixed well. Service is great, outdoor seating is nice, food is amazing. I'll be back a million times.

So nice to have a place where dairy and allergens are not a consideration. The big pink smoothie was pretty good, the Berry bar out of the case was fantastic. My waffles were OK, I wish they had arrived more warm. Husband's avocado toast was delicious and it truly tasted like it wasn't an allergy approved bread! Price was a little higher than it seemed it needed to be. Staff was friendly and pretty quick turn around for food.

Just one foot in the door is all it takes to know that this is a place of Goodness. I came here for the Salmon Hash and it was just as good as I'd hoped for. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was super friendly. Now one of my favorite breakfast spots!

Cozy little spot feels like the epitome of Portland with friendly vibes, charming baked goods behind glass, freshly made chicken broth to take home, gluten free everything, and seasonal harvest ingredients.

I was in this place when it was satellite dream pizza. Has the same comfortable, welcoming vibes now as then, and that probably has to do more with the people here than the place itself, bastian is gluten-, dairy- and a few other things free; largely vegan/vegetarian but they have meat and eggs. I like this approach, focusing on food allergies while leaving the rest of the food field open. These folks are committed to what they serve, offering loaves of their own gluten free breads. I had the fried chicken sandwich, looked small but filling, crispy and moist chicken, and hte side salad so fresh and iceberg-free. Friendly service, very good coffee and berry crumble.

Cool cafe built into an old house on the North end of Sellwood... awesome vibe and excellent food. Had the salmon salad, and my partner had the gazpacho. Both were excellent and came with this amazing bread baked locally.... bought a loaf and ate as toast for a few days as well. Great spot. Would be perfect if they had wifi (cell signal is terrible inside for some reason).

This 100% gluten free spot is an amazing lunch choice. Employees are super friendly and seating is plentiful when the weather is warm enough to sit outdoors. I got the fried chicken sandwich. The seeded bread had such good texture and the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also got a berry smoothie and it was alright but I'm also not a huge fan of banana and that is the base for all of their smoothies.

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

For the food, I really liked the "tomato cured shrooms," which are button mushrooms marinated in a tomato sauce. If you like ketchup and mushrooms like I do, then this is a fun snack. Something about the tomato flavor gives the mushrooms a pop. The roasted radish and farro was good, but the radish was cut a bit big. I didn't want a big entree, so I got the sausage, which was decent with white bean romesco and grilled scallions. The graham panna cotta was a nice way to cool down on a warm night. We were seated right away, wherever we wanted. I picked a shady indoor spot booth. I'm not sure, if it's the right booth, I then realized, they have the swings, by the window facing Burnside. I wanted to move, but hubby won't! No matter how much I begged, he ain't movin'. Then, I said: 'the music here is too loud.' His answer? 'There's always something!' So I stayed. I checked out the Patio. It might work, for the group. At least, there's one of us, who love alcohol. That may give them a reason to come. (She's driving the rest of the group). Since we are heading to an event, not far from here, we didn't have much time to take leftovers home, we didn't have a cooler, it's almost 80 degrees out, so we decided to eat something we could share. We picked the BBQ COHO Salmon Sandwich. Seared Coho salmon glazed with Bourbon BBQ sauce topped with baby Aragula and pickled red onions on a Portland French toasted potato bun. There's a $2 discount recess during happy hour (3-5pm). We were there at that time. (Is that the reason WHY the music were soo loud?) It was served with hand-cut fries. Both were just the perfect taste (delicious), and size for both of us. But, for some reason, I was still tempted to have something else. We looked at the desert menu, and decided on the Peach Crumble. Food taste so much better, when shared! Enough said. (We waited so long for this one, that we almost didn't made it to our event! We were enjoying our time here, that by the time we got to our car, we were rushing, and made it two minutes later we would have been late!) Negative: Music is too loud! Restroom could be improved. We were genuinely excited and looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short, especially given the price point and strong Yelp rating. The oxtail croquettes arrived cold, which was surprising for a fried item and set a disappointing tone early. The biggest issue was the hamachi crudo. It had a strong fishy smell with clear hints of ammonia and tasted far from fresh, bordering on spoiled. There was a lingering aftertaste that unfortunately affected everyone's palate for the rest of the meal. We sent it back due to quality concerns. My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced.
