Such a lovely little place! Sweet, helpful staff, clean, and really great food and drink. The drip coffee was very smooth and they kept my cup full. My breakfast partner had the veggie hash which was enjoyed very much. I had the Truckstop breakfast with 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, veggie sausage (comes with your choice of protein), and a cat's head biscuit (that's what we called giant biscuits in the South). The cook prepared the scrambled eggs perfectly - I order eggs "scrambled, soft" but don't always come out that way, but they were expertly on target here. The breakfast potatoes were glorious- a generous serving of perfectly seasoned, fluffy soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, two pieces of tasty vegan sausage, and the biscuit had been sliced and heated on the stove and came with butter and what I suspect might have been housemade berry jam. I am fussy about pancakes and didn't see anyone else with them on their plates (as I rubbernecked around the room to see what people were eating) but I think I'll try one next time, now that I know what an exceptionally good job they did with everything on this first visit. I've been wanting to try Little griddle for a while now. The wait can be a bit brutal on the weekend, so I'd recommend putting your name on the virtual waitlist prior to arrival. There is only neighborhood street parking, FYI. There's only a handful of tables inside (and a couple outside) but the space is nice and cozy. They have both plants and art on the walls for sale. Their menu offers a number of options for both drinks and food. I had a mango mimosa (one of the best mimosas I've had in some time) to drink, and a pancake and the vegetable hash to eat. The pancake was wonderful. The hash was a great mix of veggies and the most perfect poached eggs on top. It was served with a small spring mix salad. My complaint with all the food was that it was just ok. While prepared well, it all lacked flavor. Nothing seasoned or stood out as a great dish. The service was fantastic. A small staff, but they all were doing everything and I believe everyone touched our table throughout our dining experience. If I could sum this place up in one word, it's be homey. Little Griddle, particularly this location, is a petite little spot which feels cozy even on the coldest days. I went by with a friend on a Tuesday morning around 9 am and we were able to snag one of the last 2 tops that were open. Bewarned if you go during busy hours or the weekend, you'll likely have to wait or join the waitlist. We both opted for a hot chocolate, which was overall fine, but definitely powdered mix + milk type of situation. They are in giant mugs so fyi! My friend and I were like oops we could have should have shared this :P Foodwise she got the huevos benedictos aka huevos rancheros buuut benedict style! Perfect combo as she'd been craving both. I had the shakshuka. Tastewise, my food was fine; the eggs were properly poached and runny, but the tomato base itself was just fine. The amt of bread for the dish was just too little but that's a me problem, not a them problem. We both opted to get potatoes on the side rather than the salads that our dishes came with annnd the roasted potatoes were just fine. I felt like a lot of what was presented was on par with what my partner and I could potentially make at home. No disrespect to Little Griddle but it truly felt homey. That's not to say that things weren't tasty. Prices are fair for quality and service was really nice. Attentive without being overbearing. Country Benedict: the braised chicken was cooked to perfection, the hollandaise was perfect, and that was the tastiest, best biscuit I have ever had...AND I LIVE IN THE SOUTH! I also added a side of potatoes which were well-seasoned, crispy, and comforting. (Not pictured) My friend got the french toast which she thoroughly enjoyed and I also got to try some and loved that it was fresh bread, not overly sweet, and topped with fresh fruit sauce. We did note that it needed more but that might be the south in us that wants diabetes in everything. Lastly...the cold brew latter that they added their house made brown sugar syrup to. It used to be a very lovely place, one of my favorite places for breakfast/brunch in Portland, but definitely NOT anymore. We got on their waiting list and after receiving a message that we are first in line, we headed to the restaurant but ended up waiting another 30 minutes while watching multiple people coming in, checking in and getting inside while we were still waiting. When we finally were able to get inside, host didn't even show us our table. He did the same thing to the rest of the people as well creating bit of a confusion for everyone. His demeanor was very much like "I don't care" Food was way too salty and potatoes were undercooked. My husband and I couldn't have made a better choice for our spur-of-the-moment breakfast outing at Little Griddle this morning. We arrived just after 9 AM on a Saturday, which seemed ideal. We found a table for two in the half-filled restaurant, just in the nick of time! Within ten minutes of our arrival the popular restaurant had a 12-person waitlist. I can't stress enough how adorable Little Griddle is. They pack a lot of cuteness into this small footprint of a cafe with 10-12 tables that stretch from the bright window in the front, to the kitchen window in the back. The ocean blue ceiling has touches of gold trim throughout, and the featured works by local artists help make the space feel extra special. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit with a side of roasted potatoes. The presentation was lovely, and the biscuit was expertly made. The meals seem shareable as the portions are generous. Every dish has a vegetarian option, and diners will find a wide variety of breakfast and brunch items on the menu. The overall vibe of Little Griddle is bright and happy. The staff were smiling and pleasant, and very attentive to our needs. I happily left a 25% tip and promised to come back again soon. We stopped at Little Griddle before a spa day, and it was the perfect start. We joined the waitlist on the way over and only had about a 10-minute wait when we arrived. The place was packed -- and now I know exactly why. Service was great, food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. I ordered a single pancake with a pork sausage patty, and that pancake was ridiculously fluffy with real maple syrup -- absolutely worth the hype. My friend had the Truck Stop meal, and we both cleaned our plates. The only survivor was part of her biscuit, but to be fair, that biscuit was huge (and really good). I absolutely love this place, first off the location on Hawthorne does not get better. There is so much to do near bye and the vibes are always perfect especially during the summer. The food is great. If you want some yummy breakfast/brunch food but don't want to spend 30$ this is the place to go. I got a coffee and an entree for under 20$ which is hard to do at most sit down breakfast lunch spots. The eggs are always amazing here and you can't go wrong with their pulled pork options as well. The service is so amazing, I usually never have any issues or problem when I come here but today they were just a tad bit late on bringing my food out compared to the rest of my party. Visiting friends Woke up late, but made it for brunch at Little Griddle. My friend was like we have to eat here. The food did not disappoint. Disappointed with this place. I joined the Yelp Waitlist because I know this place is teeny and popular. Once my husband and I were #2 in the online waitlist (a full hour after joining the waitlist), we lined up outside with the others waiting. The host came outside a few minutes later to check in with the customers waiting. Host asked if my husband and I were on the waitlist, to which I answered yes, as #2, and gave them my name. They say they're checking us in. Cool. They came back a couple minutes later and informed me that they had checked in walk-up customers in front of us and that there are now 3 parties ahead of us. (We are now #4 in line instead of #2 after being in the online waitlist for an hour). I told them we'd hit the road instead. I am literally so pissed- it was all I could do to keep my wits about me. Why have an online waitlist at all if you allow walk-ups to skip the waitlist in front of online joiners? It's not like I was late, and I lost my spot. Best brunch I've had in a while- I love when a place is able to pull a good shashuka. Come early as parking and seating is extremely limited. The shashuka ($15) had great flavor but somewhat small substance to it. If they added more of the peppers it was suppose to have it's def be amazing. The bacon cheddar hash ($15) was so much portion wise but average flavor. The coffee ($3 for hot $5 for ice) was okay- just wished they had more options as Portland was so intensive with their coffee scene. The seating was small but cute!! Wowww this place deserves all 5 stars. We came for brunch as a party of 4 on a Saturday morning around 830 am - we were seated right away! It got busier around 930 and at 10 there was an hour wait. We got the shakshuka, curry hash, and a pancake to share. Everything was 10/10. The pancake might be the best pancake I've ever had!! So light and fluffy and delicious. The skillet dishes (shakshuka and curry hash) were so cute!! Very flavorful and came with toast for dipping and a surprisingly good salad. Good portions, you will not leave hungry. We checked in on our way to the location which worked in our favor as we didn't have to wait when we got there. They do have some outside sitting as well. Warning this place is fairly small so space is a bit tight! Service was good although our order was messed up but it ended up being a happy mistake! They were attentive, quick, and kind.
