Yummy food and drinks, wonderful staff, lots of seating. You can't go wrong with Jam on Hawthorne. Definitely a friendly neighbor classic brunch spot and would definitely come again.

This is a well known spot for a reason! I went to Jam on Hawthorne for the first time, and now is a go to with friends. The energy was warm and inviting, and the experience only got better from there. The flavors were incredible, every bite was packed with personality. The pulled pork was especially standout, bursted with rich savory and flavor. And the pancake! The lemon ricotta pancake was unforgettable, and I have raved about it since! This place truly lives up to the Portland food hype!

Brought my sweet hubby here for a brunch date, and man oh man am I glad we did! We somehow arrived at the Goldilocks moment and found NO WAIT! We were seated at a window table with a great view of the entire restaurant and the beautiful bar. In no time we had our lovely lattes, a great chat with our server, and ordered our breakfast. It arrived quickly and was truly delicious! Hot and fresh... this is a big thumbs up from me!

Cute little breakfast place in Portland- it was really busy but they got us in quickly anyways! They have some wholesome classic tasty breakfasts and offer lots of vegan and gluten free options as well.

Jam has been my must go breakfast spot since the first time we visited. This Thanksgiving holiday, me and my partner went to Portland again, and we spent all three of our breakfasts here, as always, no hesitation, no regrets. I tried the Downtown Scramble (without cheese), the Two Eggs Breakfast, and the Kimchi Hash. To be honest, Jam hasn't failed me so far. With the tomatoes and zucchini, the Downtown Scramble is on the lighter side without cheese. I think I'll start doing that from now on, I'm really not a cheese fan anyway. The Two Eggs Breakfast can never go wrong anywhere. On the last day of our trip, I decided to try something new, so I went with the Kimchi Hash. So glad I did! It was so good. I could smell the kimchi the moment it was served. This is a flavor bomb for sure. If you love kimchi or fermented foods, or if you're not a "salt and pepper is enough" person, I highly recommend trying this. Do note that it's a carb heavy breakfast and might make you a bit drowsy afterward lol. Also, if you're on a first date or have a serious meeting later, the green onion and kimchi might linger on your breath, so prepare some mints just for the best! The portion was quite big too, I think it could easily feed two persons or fifteen almond moms. All the staff we met were so nice and friendly as well!

Went for a brunch on a rainy day after a big night out and jam on Hawthorne hit the spot! The portions are huge and lots of yummy Bloody Mary options. I got eggs Benny and the poached eggs were over done but overall tasty. I prefer a little more salt than some people, so by and large I thought it was lacking a little flavor. The biscuits and gravy were tasty but the biscuits were not as fluffy as I prefer. My friends got the fall Bennie. It had a slight natural sweetness from the squash, the salty onions on top and a more lemon forward hollandaise and it all balanced very well. A side of bacon would've been nice. They said the wait was going to be 20 min and the table was ready super quickly! Our server was quick and to the point. Offered great suggestions.

Jam on Hawthorne was the perfect spot for a girls' brunch date. Our group of three waited about 30 minutes for a table, but the food made it so worth it. They offer several vegan dishes, I loved the vegan house scramble with tofu, veggies, hashbrowns, and sourdough toast. Their housemade marionberry jam was amazing and so delicious with the toast. We shared a mimosa bucket with raspberry purée, which was just the right size for the three of us. Parking is limited to busy street parking, so plan ahead. Overall my experience was fantastic and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

On our first morning in Portland over Thanksgiving break our son recommended this spot as it was a close walk from our Airbnb. We did not have to wait at all. We walked right in even though we're a large party of six. There was a huge booth that had just become available and were sat. Our waiter was fabulous, super helpful and patient. I had the London fog and it was delicious and I also had the fall squash Benedict dish and it was amazing. I would go back if I'm ever in Portland again.

Delicious food and great service. Chai was perfect, not too sweet, just the right amount. The grits as well as the gravy on the loaded hashbrowns needed salt though, a little bland. Took about 30 min to get seated when we got there around 10-1030. Glad they have ample seating with two dining rooms and an outdoor seating area covered with sun-shading angled umbrellas.

It was lovely to go to Portland institution Jam on Hawthorne on a weekday because there were no lines! Jam has a fun, quirky vibe with silk flowers hung from the ceiling, bright paint and local artists paintings for sale on the walls. We were greeted promptly by the friendly hostess and our server got our drink orders quickly. Our food also came out fast! I ordered the Spinach and Artichoke Bennie and my husband got Frank's Scramble and a pancake on the side. We were pleased with all of it. My Bennie had a delicious hollandaise whose acidity was complimented by the poached eggs and veggies. The scramble was more veggies than egg, which made it very tasty. The pancake was fluffy and flavorful. Both came with hash browns just they way I like them--very crisp on the outside and creamy soft in the inside. Mmmm! The manager came by and greeted us and we had a short friendly convo. Our server was attentive without being pushy. I've been to Jam before but it was very nice being there and getting right in. On the other hand, it's so good I'm glad they have lines because hopefully they'll stick around for many more years.

I finally made it! Not sure I will ever go out of my way, to go back. We arrived at 8:14am and already lots of tables were filled, but we didn't have to wait for a spot. The server was friendly to us and talked over the specials with us. We ordered Bloody Mary's and while the Brams stocker was good, it didn't say come back frequently for me. The eggs Benedict was a let down. The eggs were over cooked, think boiled egg, and didn't run at all. The Maddie pancake was okay, but even the lemon curd was sweetened and didn't zing like lemon curd normally does. The table was small and it was a tight fit for two plates, 2 bloody Mary's, 2 water glasses, plus the table accessories. It was also very noisy! There is no attempt to dampen the noise and it became difficult to talk to each other as the room filled up.

Listen to me when I say, I understand the hype around this place. *clutches pearls* I brought my mom and aunt here to brunch with a friend, need I say the service , HUNNY LA could never give you a 2.5 seconds seating on a busy mid summer morning. We walked in, it was crowded, we were seated, had menus and drinks within less than 20 mins surrounded by local talented art. The food took a while but I mean this how long food takes when you put love and seasoning into it. They did the damn thing on my meal, I don't know about everyone else's (cause they weren't trying to share). BUT my meal......Mwuah

Jam is an experience that comes with culture, flavor and a dose of nostalgia. What's not to like? The menu is a lot... so don't feel discouraged if it's overwhelming at first. Start with the decision of whether to go for brunch or lunch. The rest isn't much easier but the choices are plentiful and delicious from top to bottom. Service is good but not amazing. The atmosphere is the epitome of SE: a bit dingy, part rough around the edges and too hip for the average person. The food is fairly priced and portions are generous. Plan for a long wait on weekends... weekday visits are my jam (pun intended).

Ask the Community - Jam On Hawthorne

How is the parking availability near the restaurant?

We parked a block or two away on a side street.

    Do they have plan pancakes?

You gotta plan ahead for it... haha. Seriously though, I believe you can request it, but usually people go there for their unique food and specialties.

Going to try to to make it here tomorrow (Tuesday 8/22) How early should we get there to be able to walk in?

We went on a weekday around 1130 and only had to wait about 10 minutes or so

Are dogs allowed if sitting outdoors?

not sure but I would call and verify

Best time to come on the weekend with a group of 10?

Unfortunately all 10 will have to be there to be seated, and I don't think they take reservations. Earlier the better. I advise to call the day before and give them a heads up as a courtesy? If anything, they'll give you the best answer ;) But… Read more

So the mimosa bucket can be bought any day of the week?

Yes! All open hours all week

Does Jam have outdoor seating / do they allow dogs to sit outdoors?

Sadly they do not have any outdoor seating or allow dogs inside. They do have chairs and coffee outside for when you wait, however!

Do they serve breakfast all say or just until 11?

    If we're open, we're serving breakfast--any time from 7:30am to 3pm.

The bottom…read moreline is that I would rate their food as a six, and my service a one after being blown off by not one, but two employees. The whole experience just was a major turn off. Had a rough start. Walked in to the side of the restaurant where you can't see that it's an order first, then sit down place. A staff member, who we later learned was the chef, waved his arm in the general direction of the restaurant and said "We'll get you a......" and then trailed off as he saw a friend, made a beeline over to him, gave the guy a big hug, and then proceeded to completely forget that we exist and have a lengthy conversation. So now we're standing partly in the restaurant with no idea as to where we should be. So awkward. I almost turned around and left, but finally a waiter directed us to a seat and said he'd bring menus by so we sat awkwardly until we realized we would have to go up and order. He never did return with those menus. Although the food was delicious, the whole experience left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. To be treated like an inconvenience by the chef himself is beyond insulting. He sat for the entirety of our meal at his special table, entertaining people and greeting those that came by to grace him. The whole thing just was elitist, awkward, and frankly, rude. The quality of the food is still not enough to bring me back based on that kind of experience.

It was comfortable with low lighting and the space didn't feel loud or crowded. The service was fantastic with several people visiting our table throughout the experience for various reasons, all incredibly friendly. The food itself for this particular event was Korean fried chicken, caviar, truffle fries and bubbles. Everything was great but the fried chicken was some of the best if not the best I've ever had. It came with the caviar and 3 other sauces (I'm a sauce guy!) which were all fantastic. We also ordered bread pudding for dessert which was not a part of the prefix and all agreed it was insanely yum! I want to go back for brunch and I will definitely keep an eye on their special events to go to more knowing how great they are! Only note is they are in a small strip mall and have a very small parking lot, so prepare for street parking nearby.

Their menu selection is small, but each drink is well curated and delicious. Yunomi offers a small work area with 3 tables and a countertop space, but if those tables are taken you are out of luck :(. So far, I have tried their banana hojicha, black sesame hojicha, double matcha, jasmine matcha, and oolong matcha. Of all the drinks, I recommend getting the double matcha- creamy, not too sweet, perfect taste of matcha in one drink. Yes, the cups are small, but for me the quality overrides the size (plus I am a sipper not a chugger so it works out). I'm not sure why Yunomi doesn't have the crowd or the rush as some other matcha places in the PDX area have, but I am not complaining because that means more delicious matcha and good street parking spots for me! Highly recommend visiting Yunomi for a sweet treat if you are in the area!
