My first time dining at Besaws and I'm so glad we went! I'll start with the one challenge -- parking. The location in NW is fairly easy to get to, but as with most of that area, parking can take a hot minute. Definitely give yourself extra time if you have reservations. Now for the good stuff... oh my gosh, the FOOD. Incredible. The menu is packed with amazing options, and everything we tried was delicious. We ordered the Dungeness crab Benedict -- such a healthy portion of fresh crab with bright, fresh flavors. And the crispy potatoes on the side? OMG. I could eat an entire bowl of those by myself. We also shared the avocado toast (fresh and flavorful), the chicken and waffles (come hungry -- this one is a beast in the best way), and the chilaquiles -- savory, perfectly sauced, and oh-so-delicious. They seated us quickly for our reservation, and the service was excellent. Mohammad gave great suggestions and helpful insights into their favorites on the menu, which made the experience even better. My husband and I took two relatives to brunch yesturday, April 29th. we were seated quickly, but sat there for a long time before anyone came to our table. We finally flagged our waiter down and he took our order. The menu stated that the omelettes were all made with 4 eggs and comes with cottage potatoes, so we decided to split the meat lovers omelette and ordered a biscuit aswell. when our food arrived, the omelette was very small (smaller than any omelette I've seen, so splitting it gave us maybe 2-3 mouthfuls each) the potatoes were almost hard, like they were made up hours ago and have been sitting warming until serverd. inside the omelette, the meat was dry and crumbly, again, like it was reheated not freshly cooked. with a sprinkle of cheese on top. The biscuit was cut in half and looked grilled. it was black on the bottom and hard. This was literally the worst breakfast i've had. One other person in our party ordered the crab eggs benedict, they said it was good, but hardly any crab on it for $29.00 potatoes were the same as ours. The other person in our party orderd the Shakshuka and loved it. So to sum this up, why send out food that is not up to par, things should be made to order, it just felt like everything was just reheated food. so disappointing considering three mains, one coffee and one drink came to almost $95.00 and most of it was not good. read more

I've now been to Besaw's twice within the span of about 2-3 weeks, and both visits were consistently great experiences. The first time, I came with a group of friends and tried the chilaquiles which was absolutely delicious. The flavors were there, everything tasted fresh, The second visit was a more intimate 1-on-1 breakfast with my partner, and it was just as enjoyable. The space was clean, well put together, and inviting both times. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations, which made the experience even better. We went on a random Sunday, with reservations, and the place was perfectly packed. It offered an exciting vibe to our meal. Our group each got an item to share, I picked the breakfast plate which in hindsight I should have picked one of their fancy items instead. The breakfast plate unfortunately had burnt bacon and the fried potatoes were way hard and like crumbs. So definitely skip that and go for things like the fancy pancakes, shakshuka, seasonal hash. Service wise it was friendly and fun. It did take awhile to get the check and some boxes, but they were super busy Good place to stop again for brunch though. read more

I came here on a Sunday morning. No reservation right about 9:30 and was able to be seated. But be aware around 10-10:30 it gets packed. I sat at the bar and felt like it had ample space. Plenty of room for me, my company and all the food/drinks. There's an array of good options. From healthy, savory and sweet. I didn't order any of their cocktails, but looking at the bar it seemed like they had some choices for some higher end liquor If that's your style. My server was nice, and was able to make adjustments to my meal to fit an allergy. Parking was easy to find and I parked about a block away (free parking on Sunday) but I can imagine on a different day or time parking could be challenging. The restaurant itself is cute. I'm from out of town. I enjoyed it so much coming here the first time, that I decided to come a second. Outside looking in, the building gives off a rustic/industrial feel. It also looks fancy and classy. I came with my family at exactly noon for brunch. We were immediately attended to by the host and we did not have a reservation. We came during the week. The restaurant had a couple of people inside. The decor is very fitting for the restaurant, dark floral type pattern and wood accent furniture. It has a wide space, and pretty open. There's also patio seating outside. There is a restroom available; you walk through a hallway to get to it. We were placed in a booth. The menus are a type of construction paper. I believe they rotate the menu according to the season, since the last time I came, there were new items. I decided to get the besaws breakfast plate. For my drink, I asked the waitress was she recommended. She was very polite and friendly. She recommended the NA 75 for nonalcoholic. I chose this. The food didn't not take long to be served. I dug in. You can't go wrong for this choice. The bacon was crispy, eggs were runny, potatoes were just right. The sourdough bread with their house made jam was delicious. My drink was also not too sweet or bitter. I was also able to try the Dungeness crab Benedict and the steak and eggs. I'm usually one not for crab, but this plate was so good, I surprised myself. The steak was also cooked very well, with some pink. I also got to try their horchata French toast. It comes with caramel and caramelized milk. I enjoyed my experience so much! I would rate this closer to a 3.5 but rounding up because they were able to seat us right away for a weekend brunch under a shaded area outside. I had Besaw's bookmarked before they were closed for a bit and i'm glad they're open again. Walking in to check in I thought they had really cool space. I didn't expect the inside interior but it's cozy and has a tavern sort of vibe. I'd be down to come by another time to grab drinks at their bar. They have a solid brunch menu with chilaquiles, benedicts, twists on pancakes, and bowls. For brunch I ended up trying their hash & the banana pancakes to share with a friend. Always have to have a sweet & savory combo! The hash here had a little twist with carrots, peas, chorizo, and eggs. The portion is HUGE. I barely ate half and was able to split the leftovers over a couple of days. All in all, the hash was filling but not sure if I was a fan with the veggies mixed in for my taste buds. Would probably try something else next time. As for the banana pancakes - it had a souffle type of texture so it was on the thicker side to be able to hold up with all the surrounding syrup. In addition to the syrup they top it with a large dollop of butter to add even more richness to it. Definitely on the sweeter side so best to share this one with someone. Service here was so so but it was great to be outside. It's a decent brunch spot to try but the menu items didn't blow me away. You're kind of sitting elbow to elbow with people, pretty crammed in. And very, very loud; music up too loud. The place is big and open and sound really carries; not a quiet, intimate brunch spot. It was a bit more interesting in its old, original location. Pay-to-park street parking. Definitely on the high-end of the brunch costs. There is a reason Besaw's is a Portland institution. Had a reservation for 10:45am on Halloween and were seated promptly. We ordered drip coffee, the Columbia Coffee cocktail, and a non alcoholic sparkling wine. The drip coffee was bitter, the other drinks quite good. For breakfast, I ordered their BLAT on gluten free toast and she ordered an Ancient Grain bowl with an egg. She appreciated the quinoa and avocado dressing and that it was full of veggies. I appreciated having a classic American meal my sensitivities didn't prohibit. (Thanks, Besaw's for having both Gluten Free toast and buns!!) Also, when I explained my needs, our waitress was careful to confirm my order didn't hide something that would do me a mischief. Also, they have multiple non-alcoholic options (not just soda and coffee) which is a huge plus for some people. Great food, good drinks and service. And I love the ambiance. The music was both upbeat and chill, the ceilings are high and there are enormous windows. This place is great. read more

The food took a bit long and then at the end we had not received the churros and reminded the server and they apologized since they had forgotten or were to busy and were nice enough to take them off our bill. I did make a reservation ahead of time which I would highly recommend as it was already busy when we arrived at 9:15. We were a party of three and the tables are a little small so if your a party of 4 I would suggest requesting a booth. We ordered the chicken & waffles, bagel and lox and Crab Benedict. The chicken was a little dry but did have good flavor. The Benedict didn't feel heavy which was nice but for $25 I would have thought there would have been more crab and I couldn't even taste the guacamole. The bagel & lox was probably the best out of the three. The lox tasted really fresh and the cream cheese was the perfect texture. The service was prompt and the food was delivered quickly but for $70 (we didn't order drinks) for breakfast I don't know that I would go back. read more

I got the shakshuka which was quite delicious. The eggs were cooked well with the runny yoke and balanced out the brightness of the tomato sauce. I will say if you're a big eater then you may have to order more than 1 dish as I had a friends that got the summer hash and was still hungry after. I love coming here. This particular experience wasn't the best. We arrived at 1:30pm for brunch on a Sunday. They sat us promptly at a table of our choosing (it was still very busy but we had a few options). Our server came to greet us and give us some time to review the menu. He was very friendly and checked in on us often throughout the experience, but not too much. Our main dishes were really fantastic. Hot and fresh. I took a star off for two reasons. First, they were out of so many things. Even beverages, there were several bevs we tried to order that we couldn't. There were also a couple of food items we tried to order that they were out of. The server was very apologetic, but as a consumer it was a little frustrating. Second, I ordered a cinnamon roll off their pastries menu. They didn't bring it out with my food (I had to remind them) and then when I did get it, it was incredibly dry. I would not recommend ordering it. I was disappointed, usually I get their homemade pop tarts which are fantastic so I had high hopes. I've been to Besaw's three times now and it's always solid. We recently visited this weekend, I brought my husband and daughter for the first time. We came on a busy Sunday morning and were seated in their attached bar. It was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle and have our own little corner, but I kind of missed the ambiance from the restaurant and it was a little chilly. I did love the disco ball over our table though! I always go with the chilaquiles, this time they were red. My preference is always green, so I was a little worried, but they were delicious! It was more like a lovely fresh red salsa with chorizo and all the toppings. My daughter absolutely loved the blueberry brioche french toast. She ate half and brought the other half home and it reheated well. I'm not a french toast fan, but I stole a bite and enjoyed it. My husband declared their chicken and waffles the best he's ever had. The chicken was juicy and perfectly the fried. The waffle had a delicious honey butter that made it a little special. During my recent trip to Portland, my friend sister got a reservation to have brunch here. Besaw's has been around since the 1900s. That's one of my most favorite things about this city is the longevity of their restaurants and establishments. There was a lovely breeze where we were seating, close to the patio. Our server Sarah was wonderful. She came to our table, introduced herself, and offered us beverages. She noticed we had a little one sitting with us and made sure to get a cup of water with a lid. Since I contemplated between having something savory or something, sweet, I conferred with Sarah to make my final decision. I ordered the French toast, which was delicious. There was more than enough to share this dish. I loved the lemon curd that was added to the brioche French toast. I ordered a side of bacon. That was just what I needed to satisfy my savory craving. The Benedict looked really good. My friend ordered the veggie Benedict. It came with House made potatoes that were crispy and yummy. My friend sister ordered the Shuka, which came in a cast-iron skillet. Sarah and other servers came by often to check in on us and were diligent about refilling our iced teas throughout our meal. I do love the interior though, it's quite dark and classy for brunch. I ordered a Biscuit and Sausage Sando and it came with potatoes. The sando was pretty good, the chicken sausage was unique and I loved all the fillings. I didn't love the potatoes though. They were a bit too crispy and hot, it burned and scraped the roof of my mouth. If I do come back, I would order something else. read more

I have been here many many times. It is a modern cool brunch and bar. Love it in there. The food is usally pretty excellent. The service was impeccable and they did not miss a beat. We were sat for our reservation immediatley. The food came out quite quickly which was nice. Coffeee refills a plenty! I got the mushroom and goat cheese olmet with balsamic vinegar. I would give it a 3. It really surprised me because the food is usally so excellent. It just was not that flavorful like most of their food is. The potatos were perfection.
