La Mai Plate has been on my businesses-to-visit list for a while now and I'm so glad I finally made it. Definitely recommend this food cart! I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu. This biz owner is someone you want to support. So friendly and making delicious food that she's passionate about. She gave an accurate time estimate for when the food would be ready and used a beeper so I could retreat to my air conditioned car. I ordered: -La Mai Plate - have to get the one named after the biz right? Rice dish packed with spices, loaded with perfectly cooked tofu that looks like meat but isn't. (Can also get chicken.) Plus topped with nuts, onions, and other crunchy and flavorful things. Super tasty! -Summer Rolls - so fresh! Lettuce, mango, avocado, felt like a little tropical vacation in my mouth. Plus a great peanut sauce for dipping. Portion size? Generous. Easily able to split between two people. I took my food to-go but there is seating at this food cart pod. Recommendation from a friend to visit Sellwood and stop by La Mai Plate, and so glad we did! The food cart pod had great dining options and some seating throughout. Our group ordered La Mai Noodles, crab puffs, mango curry, and lavender lemonade. I really enjoyed the crab puffs! The outsides were crisp with a beautiful green puff wrapper. The filling was creamy, and little pieces of corn. Surprise corn! I really enjoyed my mango curry. Flavorful, a touch of heat. I had leftovers and added extra stuff at home - the curry that keeps giving. If you're looking for a little walk after your meal, walk west a few blocks from La Mai into the residential area. Everything was closed during the wildfires and smoke, but she was open! I had the PeaChic with chicken and it was great! I think she coats the chicken in potato or taro flour and then fries it, but it comes out so crispy and light! With the peanut sauce, it was very tasty and filling. And, then there are all the wonderful personalities... Herself, the owner is a wonderful lady who really loves her customers and happily engages to chat. Also, there was another BIG personality... the cat I met there. Such a glossy coat and such a sweetie! She tried the chicken and loved it and gobbled up my leftover rice, she even came up in my lap for snuggles! The owner tells me she has a home next door, even though she has no collar. After a TON of deliberation over what to get at this food pod, i chose la mai plate because the food seemed the most unique, especially being asian fusion food. I got the pea chic but with tofu instead of chicken, and I was pleasantly surprised about the batter! It definitely was a different type of breading than what I'm used to, but still nice and crispy with a slight sourness to it. The peanut sauce that came with it was GOOD. I expected something similar to what you get when you order Vietnamese spring rolls, but instead it tasted pretty similar to Thai curries. Great surprise that came with my meal, and portions were great! The owner was super sweet as well. She made sure to let me know that although the tofu looked like meat, it was definitely tofu, haha. I definitely want to try something else like the summer rolls or la mai plate, so I'll be back! read more

Excellent food! We ordered for a graduation party, and everyone loved the food. Grandma's favorites were the coconut shrimp and the crab puffs. Grad's favorites were the La Mai Roll with chicken and Summer roll. Uncle's favorite was the chicken satay. Mom loved the Spicy Lemongrass. Overheard: "Everything I put in my mouth is my new favorite thing." We ordered 15 different items. The only thing we didn't like was the fried tofu in a couple items. Loved everything else. This place is the BEST. I love the sellwood food carts, but this one is a particular stand out. I always come here for the Avocado Salad which is consistently so perfect. I do not recommend this business, the owner does not abide by their posted business hours, nor do they post updates to their social media. I drove an hour to finally try their food, I arrived a little bit earlier than expected, then waited 45 minutes, 25 minutes of that was after their posted opening hours. While I was excited to try multiple items from the menu, I will just say that they were bland and left me horribly hungry...since they never opened. This is very sad when locals try to support local businesses like this, and they do this to their customers, it is disrespectful to at least not post something on the social media site. I will never return to this business, nor will I recommend it to any one. There are many other small businesses in the community, and they treat their customers with respect and understand that for some of us, time is very valuable. This also impacts their fellow small business owners, because this was out of my way, I will not be returning to the area in the near future to try other food trucks due to this experience. read more

Simple, local but fantastic test My favorite dish here is the Lamai roll. One plate wasn't enough, because my tongue and my brain were addicted to this signature taste! I had to order a second one! My wife and I have eaten here twice now, and we loved it both times. The first time, we got the curry puff as an appetizer and the avocado salads as main dishes. (Yes, we both got the avocado salad.... it just sounded really good). The second time, we got the dumplings as an appetizer, and tried two seasonal special dishes-- the pumpkin soup and a seasonal dish with soba noodles. Everything was excellent each time. Things that stand out: --Lots of fresh ingredients and high quality ones. (This is one of the reasons the salads were so outstanding. Well, that and the dressing.) --Fun and tasty accompaniments/garnishments to the dishes (for instance, my pumpkin soup was topped with sauteed kale and served with a crispy cracker of mixed-whole-grain rice.) --Dishes that *aren't* the same thing that you can find at every other Thai cart. The dishes are creative and mixing andThai food traditions with Pacific NW ingredients. (I might try the "Forest Salad" next time...) Besides the food, I have to give a big shout to the friendliness of the owner/chef, who is super nice and enthusiastic. Allso, she has placed all sorts of fun seasonal/Halloween decorations around the cart and seats near it-- that are really fun and cute. Cha (owner) is the absolute sweetest and has some of the best food i've ever had avocado salad and any of the appetizers are so delicious. Be prepared to wait because it's always popping there but she is the only one cooking and preparing this amazing grub so have grace and be patient! it is WORTH the wait!!!! read more

Wonderful food! Super sweet people who run this cart. The Avocado salad is delicious and fresh, nice balance of flavors and spice. The Salapo and La Mai Rolls are great as well. My favorite is the Salapo (great mix of spice, crunch and softness from the bun). If you are not good with a lot of spice (like me) they can adjust the spiciness/heat, just ask. We were shopping in the area and stumbled into the food carts here. For lunch my sister and I chose La Mai Plate because we wanted something fresh, nothing fried.
