Husband and I were visiting Zion and staying in Hurricane. After a long day of hiking, we were looking for some hearty meals nearby. We ran across Pig's Ear and decided to give it a shot. I got the chicken alfredo (forgive me, I forget the exact name on the menu) but boy did it have flavor. The chicken was cooked just right and had the right amount of crispiness. Took our friends here for the first time. Interior is in the look of industrial warehouse look. Layout gives patrons a full view of the kitchen & wait staff. We were seated promptly and given menus. Menus are black and white print on regular paper. I think this was done to accommodate an easy menu/price change when printing to keep cost low. As I look at Yelp reviews it shows menu items that aren't available anymore. We ordered Pork Chops, the Salmon and a dish called Shaking Beef. We started with Spring Roll appetizers which were served with a white horseradish sauce and a red sauce that was close to ketchup. They were. Great start to the meal. We had just finished them when our entrees showed up. As we started eating we found that the meals were nicely plated and very tasty. The Pork chops were cooked just right. Served on a bed of mashed potatoes. Sautés apple cubes and fresh veggies filled the plate. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Not over cooked, and on a bed of leg couscous. Shaking beef was a great surprise. It was tender and vey flavorful. The thing we all noticed was how the meals all came at same time and were all fresh and hot! I ordered the house bacon cheeseburger. The meat was well cooked, and the sauce was great. I would have liked a bigger patty or a smaller bun. My friend had a similar experience with the french dip: tasted great, would have liked a little more meat. They have a decent variety on their menu compared to other "American eatery" style restaurants. It seems like a good place for a group with varied tastes. I had food picked up for me from family who had gone there. So I can speak about the food, and relay what my family had said about this restaurant. I ordered the chicken cutlets and they came with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Yum! I wish the cutlets were maybe just a little thicker? But maybe it varies on the cuts. Overall though, I enjoyed it - especially with the sides given. My family had a variety of food there, but I heard them rave a lot about the ribs! They said the owner walked around and was checking in with the guest and they got to chatting with her for a bit and she's very friendly and welcoming. A little dry and hard but the sauce was really good. They we came close to closing so I can't blame them too much. They were out of ribeye steaks which was my first choice. It was just the seating at the beginning that is a weird process that needs to be worked out...only reason it's not 5 stars. Waited about 10 minutes to sit at open barstools. Other than that, absolutely amazing! My chili burger was delicious. My buddy loved the bacon burger he got. French fries are how all french fries should be, so good! When we walked in, it was packed, which is always a great sign. The vibe was very casual, but they had some really cute Christmas decorations that made it feel extra cozy. We waited about 10-15 minutes for seats at the bar, and it was totally worth it. We ordered the pig ribs and the prime bone-in ribeye. The only reason for 4-stars is the price of dishes. I had the Parmesan chicken cutlets with mashed taters, which were very well presented and delicious! Unfortunately, 2 out of 4 of us got sick after dining here (we both happened to have the beet salad, so it was most likely the culprit). Came here with family while on vacation. I was the only vegan in the group and I'm grateful a vegan option was on the menu which was the Curry Roasted Cauliflower & Carrots. The food was good but our server, "Callie B." can only be described as surly. We had 8 people but needed to have 6 checks which immediately ticked her off (I get it, but it sometimes happens) . She took our orders with no acknowledgement, no eye contact, no smile. When another person unexpectedly arrived for our group she pointedly ignored our attempts to get her attention so they could place an order. We finally gave up trying and they just shared an entree with someone else. The restaurant was not even 1/4 full but she never once checked back on us until the very end of our meal when she tried to refill our waters, but we were already getting ready to leave. I get that people can have bad days, and I used to be a server, so I'm a generous tipper when the service is decent. But in this case, if she hadn't added an automatic 20% tip she wouldn't have gotten a tip from me at all. That auto tip thing is a pretty good scam for bad servers. read more

Only thing I don't love about Pig's Ear is the atmosphere is not overly inviting. Make a reservation on voicemail to save time. This is one of the few foodie places to dine (and also serve cocktails). The atmosphere lacks decor is quite loud with slab floors and high ceilings but I hear sound tiles for the ceiling are coming soon. The bar was nothing special with stools to sit-up to but seemed to be in the overflow dining area. We enjoyed the whiskey sours with the fried portobello appetizer and mustard/horseradish? dipping sauce. Then we tried the wedge salad which was pretty typical with chunky bleu cheese but super crisp and cold. For dinner he loved the full rack of ribs that were very meaty and molasses sauced served with mac n cheese and coleslaw. I was steered away from ordering the ribeye and chose the NY with asparagus and substituted mac n cheese for the au gratin potatoes. The steak was very flavorful and perfectly prepared. I loved the mac with a bit of horseradish bite I think. We took extra steak, veggies and mac home for a third meal. For the finale we shared bread pudding with cream and cinnamon topping.
