Food was solid but nothing blew us away. Crab cakes were tasty, the tallow truffle fries were good and crispy, and once the correct steaks arrived they had a nice smoky grilled flavor. The green chive pepper sauce wasn't for me, but my husband liked it. The bigger issue was service. My husband ordered a ribeye and got a filet instead. They fixed it in about 10-15 minutes and apologized, but that was it--no offer of anything extra for the mix-up. At a resort steakhouse, just saying sorry after bringing the wrong steak felt a little thin considering it largely ruined the experience of the main course. This is the prime restaurant at the resort, which has a PGA golf course. Located higher up, you have nice views of the surroundings, which of course are beautiful. The food here is very good. I recommend the wedge salad and the bone in rib eye. My rib eye was perfectly cooked. Tender, juicy. Absolute stunner of a steak. The cocktails also were phenomenal, which ironically is hard to find in this area. The bread also amazing. Only thing I would not recommend is the scallops. I think they are too big. Smaller ones would work better for their steak. Otherwise, a wonderful evening. Good wine list. Great service and everyone was helpful. Holy smokes! Best meal of my life. This place is phenomenal. The views. The steak and sides. The cocktails. The STAFF! My sister and I were in town and treated ourselves... I can't even describe how perfect our dining experience was. The hostess was lovely and welcoming. Our red-headed server was fabulous, an absolute wealth of knowledge, she helped us curate the most incredible meal with cocktails and dessert. Her recommendations were spot on, we had an incredible evening. We shared a the funeral potatoes appetizer, wedge salad, ribeye, creamed corn, and pumpkin butter cake. Each dish was beyond amazing. Spoil yourself here! We did and don't regret it. We loved our dishes we chose both nights we dined here. I had the Butternut Squash Gnocchi and the Sea Bass the following night. Originally I made the reservation for my husband's 50th birthday celebration at latitude, but was contacted by Black Desert and talked into going upstairs to basalt for what they said would be a much better experience. The view was great, but the food and service were lacking. I had been asked ahead of time about allergies and said I am gluten-free and can't tolerate alliums. Even though they confirmed this when talking on the phone, when I arrived these were not taken into consideration. They brought bread to the table, but not the gluten-free option I had been told about over the phone. I had to ask for it, and even then it was super garlicky, which did not make a great experience for the rest of the night for me. On the phone, they also asked if my husband liked anything in particular for dessert and I said yes, he is a huge fan of crème brûlée and the person on the phone said that's what they get too and it's amazing and that they would definitely bring him that special on the house. instead, they brought him an oversized shirt that we will need to go back to exchange. It was a nice gesture, but not what they had promised. The crabcake I got was delicious, but the roasted carrots side dish was not really roasted. They were so firm and crunchy it was as if I was eating completely raw carrots. My husband got the Chilean Seabass, which he said was fine but overcooked. Our friends got to the eggplant dish and ravioli. For the price to only get four little ravioli was ridiculous. Also, the eggplant was supposed to be al dente, but it was mush. The length of time it took between getting our water and the drinks and ordering food was quite ridiculous. The staff were kind but not attentive or very knowledgeable. In fact, we almost got served another table's food and when they brought our food to the table, they did not know which plate went to whom. This is not the type of service I expect from an establishment like this. It's a good thing our friends and I had a lot to chat about because we were there for 2 1/2 hours. I have been to several fine dining establishments where the service and food were much better so my expectations were higher. At least the view was nice. read more

Warning--I Will Never Go Back. This is a difficult review for me. I almost never slam a restaurant with bad reviews, but this is one of those experiences. This is the second time coming here, first time was great, decor, professional service, and food and presentation were very good. I wrote a glowing review about it. Tonight we went there with 2 other couples, and dinner was similar in many respects. Each couple had different appetites and whether they drank alcohol or now. Our server was fantastic, she was attentive and elegantly described the menus and dishes. Our table was beautiful. We had a wide variety of drinks, wine and food, all I would rate 5 Stars as well, but when the bill came and they refused to split the bill other than evenly 3 ways. Even though I worked out how much to put on each of our cards, they refused because their policy was that they could only split the check evenly. One couple only had appetizers and split an entree and no alcohol. Their portion of the bill was only $154 while mine was $323. Forcing them to pay for my much more expensive dinner ruined the mood for all of us. I ended up paying the entire $725 bill because I did not want to put our friends out, BUT THEY HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER FOR GOOD, I WILL NEVER GO BACK. read more

Our drink orders took forever to arrive, no one cleared our table between courses, and even after being handed dessert menus, no one came by to take our order for over 10 minutes. We came to Basalt to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary, and sadly, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. When our server greeted us, he asked if we were celebrating anything. After we said it was our anniversary, his response was, "I've already had seven anniversaries today," in a tone that made us feel like an afterthought rather than welcome guests. The service continued downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of wine and had to ask three separate times for it to be decanted. Our server later apologized for a "salad delay," even though we hadn't ordered salad. Fifteen minutes later, another server arrived with a salad for our table, only to shrug when we told him it wasn't ours. After some back and forth, it was finally clarified that we had ordered the crab cake. When it eventually arrived, it was heavily over-seasoned and overpowered the taste of crab--definitely not a dish I'd recommend. At this point in our experience we had been seated at our table for over an hour without food. The confusion didn't stop there. A manager came to our table to apologize for running out of a ribeye steak entrée and offered to upgrade us to a more expensive steak at the same price--except we hadn't ordered the ribeye steak. She left to figure things out but never followed up with us again. Our entrées finally arrived: my diver scallops were bland with undercooked Brussels sprouts, while my husband's Wagyu steak was just okay--nothing special for the price. The one highlight was the creamed corn, which was absolutely delicious. To end the meal, our server cleared our plates and simply brought us two desserts we hadn't ordered (a crème brûlée and lemon cake). We would have liked to see a menu and choose for ourselves, but I overheard they were out of several items. The desserts were fine, but nothing memorable. After 2.5 hours of mistakes, confusion, and underwhelming food, we left disappointed and honestly relieved to be done. At one point, while waiting for our appetizers, we debated just paying for the wine and leaving, and in hindsight, we wish we had. For what's billed as a fine dining experience, the service and food quality were far from it. We will not be returning and cannot recommend Basalt. read more

We had a delicious dinner. Filet, lamb chops, and seabass. Everything was cooked perfectly. The presentation was excellent. The lamb was delicious. It was not from Utah which surprised me. Morgan Valley lamb is from Utah and is amazing. Hopefully they will try to get something a bit more local. The seabass was amazing! Cooked to perfection. My only problem was the corkage fee had risen from $25 to $45. At $25 it is inline with most restaurants. $45 is gouging people! The food prices are high but the quality justifies it! Just the most wonderful experience at Basalt! They are new, so obviously they have been working out some kinks, but I believe they have. The steak was one of the best I've had in a long time. The crab cake is such great quality and absolutely to die for. The Caesar salad is another must (and definitely shareable.) Their Caesar is a traditional one and the parm is from Italy. Absolutely delicious! The lobster tail was amazing, the butter potatoes, Mac and cheese, broccolini, and mushrooms are all incredible. With the amazing view, this is a great place for a special sunset dinnner. All of that said, my TOP recommendation is that you ask to be seated in Tee's section. She was so wonderful we came back the next day and let her curate our meal. She was our favorite part of the experience! Make a reservation bybthe window at sunset! Just trust me. Stunning views and a vibe worthy of an evening to impress. Whether you bring a date, celebrate an anniversary, or a group (they have a private large table room). All windows are floor to ceiling. Service is attentive and formal. Menu is full of locally-sourced steaks which is cool here in Utah. Expect to pay around $125/per person to fully experience it. Get the funeral potatoes appetizer so good, the filet mignon tenderloin, and enjoy the ambiance at sunset. So so beautiful! Black Desert Resort is a special place. I recommend staying for a weekend and making a Saturday night reservation here before you arrive. It makes the experience so much more fulfilling after a day of such memorable golfing on a PGA Championship course that will knock your socks off. read more

This was, without question, one of the worst service experiences I've ever had in a supposed fine dining establishment. The waitress never once refilled our champagne glasses, and the table sat cluttered between courses like we were at a diner rather than a restaurant claiming sophistication. The service was sloppy, inattentive, and shockingly amateurish--completely unacceptable for the price point and reputation. The food was fine, but far from memorable, and certainly not strong enough to compensate for the abysmal service. If management cares at all about maintaining standards, they need to retrain their staff immediately, because what we experienced was a disgrace. read more

We had some appetizers to start and a couple glasses of wine. The appetizers (funeral potatoes and ceviche as well as the rolls) were all good. There were 4 of us in our party and we all ordered different steaks. This is where the meal kind of fell apart. My steak was so tough I could barely cut it with a steak knife. It was a New York, so I expected a little fat, but this was like they had not trimmed any of it at all. It also had a lot of gristle throughout the steak that made eating it nearly impossible. My spouse's steak was also very tough for a tenderloin. Not one person at the table finished their steak, so I assume that nobody thought it was very good. The price was premium, but the food did not match the price. I would not recommend this restaurant for those looking for a fine dining experience. read more

this place needs more reviews!! its amazing!! i am from out of town, and am extremely picky/critical about my fancy steakhouse meals and basalt has lived up to all of the places i compare to in my head. caesar salad was perfection and i might say a must order. hamachi ceviche was amazing with a sauce that you wanted to use every last drop. the wine and cocktails were great, and our server was so lovely. still working a few minute kinks, some things just flowed a bit awkwardly, but i wasn't bothered, the food was excellent and just beautiful views and atmosphere. lovely focused menu, and im so excited to go back and try more things, something to look forward to in the otherwise abysmal stg food scene lol read more

The Service and Ambiance was excellent. But for such an expensive and exclusive place, I expected much, much better food. - The Caesar salad is one of the worst Caesar salads I have ever had. It was covered with shaved Parmesan cheese. But it had almost no Caesar dressing so it was dry and the lettuce was not tender. - The Heritage Wagyu Zabuton steak was tough and gristly - like a bad Ribeye at a budget steakhouse. Supposedly "The Zabuton Denver steak is known for its natural tenderness and rich flavor" - but not the one I ate at Basalt. For $71 it is a terrible value. - The Truffle fries were stuck together in a big mass which was hard to separate for sharing. And since they were overcooked, the fries were hard and crusty. - The beet salad was quite generous and would have been quite good - except it was too salty. - The Diver Scallops also might have been good. But they were totally smothered in Chimichurri sauce. Basalt was an overpriced disappointment on our first visit. read more

Unfortunately, we had an inexperienced waitress who had the timing and sequencing of the food and drink all wrong. It took someone ( our waitress never brought it ) over 45 minutes to serve our water after we were seated and about 50 minutes before we ordered. We ordered salads, steaks and a side of vegetable. The salad was good. The meal was the same price as a Morton steakhouse but not the same quality My husband's ribeye was the size of the plate, but about a half inch thick with not much flavor. I ordered a tenderloin which was also only a half inch thick with just OK flavor. The side of vegetables had a strange marinade on them we ended up not eating them. We were very disappointed. First, no tablecloth. So I immediately think cafeteria. There were 8 of us. We are old and experienced diners--think New York and Boston. But we all love Utah and are pulling for this place to succeed. Charming waitress who over-explains every dish on the menu. This is not a symposium. We know our food. She is supported by two staff members and I am thinking this will be good service. We place our orders and everyone vanishes. Twice we had to get up and search for a server to fill a water glass or get a new napkin. I ordered scallops, always a mistake in a restaurant not on the ocean. Well enough cooked but the scallops were eligible for social security. Total bill for two: $570. Yes, we ordered two overpriced bottles of wine. Bad on me because I don't drink wine. But that's not my complaint. The problem was the place is flat--nothing to give you a wow experience. This wants to be a Vegas expense account joint where guys go after meetings and trade show to clog their arteries with $100 steaks--on the company. Always enjoyed those days! But the devil is in the details and they are far from getting the details right. read more

Wife and I took advantage of the resorts $187 introductory offer per night. The hotel is very nice but it still needs signs to assist with where to go when checking in or other venues. Very confusing. Clean room, nice view, quiet and comfortable bed. Ate at Basalt for dinner. Very pricey. My wife had a small small sirloin for $60. Wasn't worth it. Also, they offer no bread before dinner. Pretty tacky for such a fancy high-priced restaurant. Service was ok but our waitress had a cold and a runny nose and kept wiping it on her sleep. Gross. We ate at Latitudes restaurant for breakfast and it was outstanding. Great waitress and the eggs and bacon and pancakes were delicious and cooked properly. Not a bad price either. The pro-shop is big and nice, but freaking expensive.....and it too needs a sign out front to find it. Overall, for the price and a $50 credit, I guess I'd visit again. Hopefully they iron out these things upon finishing the resort. But it's only gonna get more expensive. Be prepared. read more
