Father's Day this year was especially meaningful for our family, and thanks to this incredible restaurant, it became a memory we will cherish forever. From the moment we arrived, every dish was exceptional. The salad was fresh and beautifully prepared, the pork belly was absolutely outstanding, and the steak was cooked to perfection with the most incredible seasoning. Every bite was memorable. The biscuit was unreal--warm, comforting, and honestly one of the best I've ever had. What touched me most was the homemade ice cream. One spoonful instantly brought me back to childhood memories of my dad making homemade ice cream for us when we were kids. It was such a special and unexpected gift to relive those moments. But what truly made the evening unforgettable was our server, Parthee. She was absolutely amazing. Her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine warmth made us feel so welcomed and cared for. She didn't just provide excellent service--she made our night. Our family has been through a lot, including the heartbreaking loss of my sister. Father's Day hasn't always been easy for my sweet dad since then. This evening gave us something precious: a new happy memory together. On Sunday my wife and a friend went for dinner. We've had many wonderful meals here over the years but this was our first time back in about 1 1/2 years as we live out of state. We placed our appetizer and drink orders and later dinner. We simply ordered the trout, crab Mac and cheese and I ordered the duck. The Water Mellon Pork belly came out first. The pork belly was tough and hard not like times past. We really needed a steak knife and 1/2 of the 2 portions we ordered was not edible. The trout and crab mac came out and I waited and waited not 10 min but nearly 30 minutes for the duck. I spoke to our waitress and I think the manager and they kept saying it takes more time to prepare. At about 25 minutes I canceled my duck as my wife and friend were done with their meal. I was given just excuses and no explanation. I suggested that since they KNOW the duck takes longer to prepare they should have started that first. I was told by the two I spoke too that they put in the order and it's started in that order so my duck was last. So the so called Chef's who should know the duck takes longer blew it along with the wait staff. In every restaurant setting I've been in, the chef would to start what takes longer first so the table of two or more would be served at the SAME time. But not here at Wood Ash Rye. As mentioned this was one of at least four other times here. But in our years absence, the familiar faces were gone, the so called Chefs looked like line cooks and the wait staff was clueless on how to make things right. Sad....we won't be back. read more

I stopped in with my friend yesterday for breakfast. Because it was Memorial Day weekend, my friend made a 10:15 reservation; however, we arrived by 9:55. When we arrived we waited for the host and informed him we had a 10:15 reservation. Despite there being multiple empty tables, he informed us we would not be able to be seated until closer to our reservation which threw me off. We were seated around our reservation time and given some time to look at the menu. Our server was very helpful and kept checking in on us to see if we had any questions or if we were ready to order. She did take the time to inform us that we should order before a big party as our meal would take longer if we waited. We ordered buttermilk biscuits to share and I ordered the arrival of the sun (two eggs your way, bacon or sausage, potatoes, and country bread). The buttermilk biscuits were brought to us first and were 2 large fluffy biscuits served with butter and jam. The butter was good quality and jam was made in house, but was slightly runny, but overall a delicious combo. The arrival of the sun arrived shortly after and was a large portion. The potatoes were my personal favorite, seasoned and crispy! Wood ash rye is in a hotel in downtown St. George. The hotel itself has valet parking that is $22. However, if you arrive early enough you are able to find parking on the street, just make sure you look out for any parking signs. The inside of wood ash rye is small, but they offer an outside bar, several large tables in the center, and booths off to the side. In addition, they have a bar just outside the restaurant. My third time at WAR. Food has been excellent each meal. This time I sat at the bar and the service was great. Ambiance is always great too as the restaurant has a great vibe. I had the beet salad with poached pear. It was really delicious and was a great combination on the taste buds. Then I had the confit chicken (boned in). It had great flavor and was cooked perfectly. The slaw was also good. If you go to WAR, you must get the biscuits. They will complement almost any meal. Also, my drink was the WAR Tan. I've had it before and it was delicious again! read more

What a little gem for food in St. George! With scratch-made biscuits and jam, you must start with those. Honestly the regular bread and butter was fantastic as well. As a group of 8, we were able to order a bunch of items and they were all so tasty and delicious. The pork belly tostadas didn't present as though they'd be good, but I promise there were 10/10. The pollo asada fries and the creamed elote corn were both a huge hit with everyone, I swear I'd come back just for that corn. The broccolini and carrots were a super tasty veg. Although the cheesy potatoes were good on the first bite, the cheese hardened and didn't stick to any of the potatoes anymore, so I'd probably skip those next time. The chef graciously offered for us to try the corned beef and cabbage special on the house, and it was unbelievably good. It definitely turned some people into new corned beef lovers! The only "disappointing" dish was the nigiri, which came out as a cooked piece of salmon and was a misunderstanding amongst the table. We ordered the elk gnocchi but it was never delivered so we ended up cancelling that. (I'm not even sure I checked if they took that off the bill, but hopefully they did!) Since the meal was impressive, we thought we should try a few desserts too? The cookies/milk and the key lime pie were real winners, along with the homemade prickly pear and lime sorbet. Ashly was friendly and provided excellent service to our table. I wish the vibe was a little bit cozier, but I did ask for our chandelier above our table to be dimmed and that helped a lot! We have friends who have been trying to get us to come here for years. We finally made it tonight and we instantly regretted not making it sooner. First of all we had our two kids with us and they immediately brought out a plate of apples for them to start snacking on. Very thoughtful and helpful. It kept them busy until we ordered and appetizers were brought out. I ordered the biscuits, the brussels sprouts, and the chicken confit. I couldn't eat the biscuits but my husband and kids devoured them. They looked incredible. I will be dreaming about the brussels sprouts until I return. My husband and I both agreed they were the best we've ever had. The chicken was great too- would have preferred white meat and additional sauce but still good. We were really disappointed with our experience. We came to this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation and called ahead, where we were told they couldn't accommodate our party of 9 together but could seat us as two tables of 4 and 5. We appreciated that effort. However, when we arrived, we were initially told they only had one table available. They eventually made it work so we could sit at two separate tables, which we were grateful for--but the issues didn't end there. We were seated at 2:00 PM and didn't receive our food until 3:18 PM, despite ordering promptly. My husband's meal arrived first, and he ended up eating alone while the rest of us waited another 30 minutes for our food. Meanwhile, we were told multiple times that dishes come out based on order timing, yet we watched another group seated after us receive their food before we did. The wait became so long that our teenage children left after an hour and a half to head home. We truly value both good food and good service, but this experience fell short on the service side. Spending nearly $400--along with a mandatory 20% gratuity--left us feeling very unsatisfied. Ultimately the server lowered our bill, but that was after an argument. I'm never one to complain but this was over the top. I expected more from a Marriott Bonvoy property. read more

Been wanting to try this place for years and finally got the chance. It's in a hotel, and easy to find. We were sat in a back room and greeted quickly. We ordered the drink special, a peach bourbon drink. The waiter explained its family style or shareable plates, and left as we perused the menu. We decided on the burratta and watermelon pork belly apps and for the entrees we got the halibut special and the NY Strip. Burratta was odd as you got a baseball sized piece of cheese with a huge bowl of arugula and strawberries. The ratio was just off, hard to eat that much arugula, especially when it's lightly dressed so it was really just about of bitter lettuce. Cheese was good. Pork belly watermelon was the same, just 4 small squares of pork belly on a lot of watermelon. It tasted nice, but just not enough pork belly Halibut special came with asparagus and was covered in onions, which were not in the description on the menu. My wife brushed them off and ate most of the fish. It was a little overcooked and dry, but had a nice flavor. Steak was really good and very large Came with fingerling potatoes. Sliced in the kitchen it had overcooked to a medium or medium well while I had ordered med rare. Dessert was good, had the key lime pie and a dish of sorbet. This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. I enjoy going for dinner rather than brunch because there's usually way more options for me to try. The menu changes seasonally but Ive had a delicious gnocchi, lobster bisque, grapes that tasted like they were grilled, warm biscuits with fresh jam, and so many other good dishes. My husband loves the cookies and milk for dessert while I will pick a tres leche cake anyday when they have it. I enjoy the cocktail variety as well which can change with the seasonal menu too. Before we had a chance to even sit down, we ordered two orders of it. The pork belly was very hard and chewy. Had a very strong fish taste to it. ???? Odd Way more than it used to. The crab mac & cheese was very. Meh. It had very strong fish smell to it. The texture was off as well, very gritty. I would like to comment on the duck, but it never made it to the table. Everyone was finished with their meal and it still had not arrived. The wait staff went on to explaining how it gets cooked basically when it gets cooked and it comes out as it's cooked. Kind of hard to enjoy when everyone else is done with their food. Instead of just apologizing, I thought we were getting lectured as to the house and why's. The drinks were lacking. So delicious with attentiveness! We came here after a week of hiking the Utah splendor to celebrate a milestone anniversary, WAR delivered. We were greeted with flowers, an anniversary greeting at our table, and complete meal. We started with drinks, I chose a gin and tonic with a local gin (yum!) and my spouse tried the "gathering" (Moscow Mule of sorts). We both liked the buttermilk biscuits as a starter (so good!). We continued to split through mains: oversized Caesar salad (roasted chickpeas instead of croutons -- nice!), trout, and filet. Everything was tasty. While eating with too much zest, I spilled my barely completed drink directly onto my lap. I was saved by my napkin (water resistant) first, then our server Parthy was immediately cleaning me and the floor, followed by the bar tender making me a new drink. Wow, what service. Located in the Advenire Hotel was an exquisite dining experience from the wait staff, to the quaint asethics to the mind blowing delicious foods. Came here so that we could take advantage of their dog friendly patio. The patio was so warm, which I appreciated with the sun going down and a slight breeze. It was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly, they brought the dogs their own water bowl, which we really appreciated! I asked what the server recommended, and she recommended the berry lemonade and their pork chop. That is what I got! The berry lemonade was just okay and for the price I probably would have just stuck with water. The pork chop was excellent. The meat was flavorful and cooked beautifully. It comes with a cauliflower purée, but you do not get very much of that. I wish that the side had been more substantial while the pork chop itself was incredible and delicious, I was not full after finishing my plate and when I pay $40 for a plate, I want to be full when I leave. With larger portion size, I would have been more satisfied the flavor of the pork was the best I've ever had. It's a good choice when you're out with dogs but for the price tag associated and the quantity of food received I did not feel like it was worth it unfortunately. If the meal had come with a salad or something to help offset the main entrée plate and also still give me a full meal that is another option that would entice me to come back. read more

We've eaten at WAR 4 times prior to tonight's dinner and had decent food. Tonight was a different story. The hummus (odd flavor) was served w unpeeled carrots, celery and broccolini tops (not great dippers) The mushroom & shishito app. was greasy and didn't look appealing on the plate. The Jambalaya "Not Traditional" was served in a rich cream sauce & paired with cheesy grits that were cold. The combination of richness was a gut bomb. A lighter rice would have been better or just stick to a more traditional recipe. Lastly, The $40 Pork Chop was delivered on a small plate with a few slices of raw apple, a scant scattering of fried onion and a weak swipe of odd purée. The chop was cut off the bone and pre sliced for some reason. It looked mangled and unappetizing with the bare bone. The cut was fatty, gristly and served lukewarm. Again this was a $40 plate ! Our waiter was really nice! We were honest with our feedback & he comped the appetizers, gave a discount for the chop and added a free dessert. After a rather long hesitation, or, "valet parking is free." Once at the table, the service was awkward & sluggish. Again, taking a very long time for food with one person's salad being delivered once the table was nearly finished with their meals. This a a true gem in Southern Utah. The food and service are amazing and the ambiance is classy and elegant but feels cozy. We had the scallops and filet and both were superb. Wood Ash Rye is an upscale dining experience for the nature-lovers and adventurous type. That may not be their intentional clientele, but that felt like the vibe to me, so I'm sticking with it. Reservations may not be required, but highly recommended-especially during busy days/times. We were lucky enough to walk in on a Sunday morning for breakfast, but that may not be the case. The food is better than average, which aligns with the ambience and overall experience. It's not often that the first restaurant you stumble upon in a new place ends up becoming one of your favorites -- but Wood Ash Rye absolutely did. It checks all the boxes: beautiful décor, locally crafted and inspired drinks, and some of the most flavorful, beautifully plated dishes I've had in a long time. Our server, Summer, was amazing -- great suggestions, super knowledgeable, and clearly proud of all the locally sourced ingredients they use. My only gripe? She's a little too loyal to their "hummus." You can't call something that isn't hummus... hummus. That feels disrespectful to actual hummus. Other than that, I highly recommend visiting this place. I really appreciate Kyler going out of his way to make this right. I met him randomly and started discussing what had happened and our Thanksgiving experience. He made sure to make things right. When I say they went above and beyond, I'm not putting that lightly. Our waitress, Parthy, was phenomenal. Had wonderful food recommendations, as well was very friendly and attentive. The chef came out and chatted to us and genuinely cared about our experience. He has been there about 4 months and has done some amazing things to the menu. He is a very talented chef. It was actually a 2 star experience but giving them 3 stars because I believe the problem I had was maybe Opentable's part not them. Also we got to the restaurant more than 30 mins before the reservation but they still took us. My boyfriend and I were in town for Thanksgiving and I decided to make a reservation at this restaurant ahead of time to make sure we have a place to eat since we were not familiar with which restaurant would be open. I made a reservation through Oepntable and upon making one, it asked me if I wanted a pre-fix thanksgiving menu or regular menu. I picked regular menu coz I really didn't want to pay $120 for Thanksgiving dinner and I wanted to try their regular menu which looked good. When we got to the restaurant, we were told they were ONLY serving Thanksgiving menu. Since we had no idea where else to go, we had no choice but to stay. Food overall wasnt bad at all but I didn't enjoy it that much coz I wasn't really in the mood for it. And I thought $120 was overpriced for that location. Sure they give you LOTS of food, but still it wasnt the best. OpenTable really mislead me and I was so disappointed. And the server wasn't that great either. While we were waiting, the head chef stopped by our table and generously offered us their Brussels sprouts dish to try, on the house. That gesture alone was memorable, but the food itself was incredible. The standout dish for us was the gnocchi--absolutely phenomenal and something we could not get enough of. To finish, we tried the hazelnut, cocoa, and chile pepper crème brûlée. At first we were skeptical of the flavor combination, but it completely won us over--it was rich, unique, and delicious. Everything about this dinner--from the service, to the chef's thoughtfulness, to the quality of the food--made it a highlight of our anniversary trip.
