Instead, I got a bowel of oatmeal gravy cosplaying as soup, the kind of "just add water" situation you'd see in a Canteen catalog under Institutional Entrées. Honestly, it felt like something you'd be handed in jail as a reminder to reflect on your choices. To make matters worse, there was no sourdough just a bag of sad, existentially confused oyster crackers that looked like they'd given up halfway through being food. This place had the opportunity to be exceptional. The oysters and salmon Caesar set the bar high, but the chowder dragged the whole experience down like an anchor. A terrible dish in an otherwise promising meal and that's what sticks. How they can improve? Start by serving chowder that's actually chowder something with clams, cream, and texture that doesn't require emotional support. Add fresh sourdough instead of penitentiary‑grade crackers. And maybe, just maybe, taste the chowder before sending it out. When you're steps away from one of the most famous chowder spots in the country, the bar isn't just high it's unavoidable.

They serve seafood baskets, fish and chips, poutines and samplers on their menu, and you place your order on a kiosk at the front. Staff were ready to answer questions, and had a lot of good energy when serving orders to me and their other customers. I split with two others in my group the sampler, which consists of two pieces each of fried cod, oyster and shrimp, all on top of a bed of French fries. The tempura batter for all three came apart a little too easily, though it was even more so with the fried cod, as it was hard to use a spoon and fork to scoop up the easily broken pieces. Shrimp and oyster were both really good and not too salty on their own. French fries were also really filling, and were very fresh - they were on the verge of being too salty. Overall portion was relatively big and all three of us got full from splitting this.

It's craggly and crunchy in the best of ways - with a consistent crispiness across the entire fish for every piece. I don't think I've ever had a crunch this good on fish and chips. The oil is clearly fresh, and it's served with basically no delay from the frying. I also loved the cod inside. It's super moist and flaky. Obviously, the fish doesn't have a lot of fat, but it makes up for it with a disappearing texture where you barely even need to bite through. They've clearly gotten the formula right on the fish. If that wasn't enough, the fries were easily the best I've ever had with fish and chips. They were hot, thick, and fluffy - a perfect combination that led to delicious results. The portion on these was great as well. If I had one complaint, the tartar sauce wasn't very good. It felt like it was missing both fat and acid, and tasted closer to ranch than what I was expecting a tartar sauce to be. I just didn't end up using it for the fish. Yes, this is pricey.
