We came here for dinner and once inside, you can feel the staff being super friendly. The sitting was a bit tight but not too overwhelming. They were super attentive and made sure me and my family had what we needed. The food we ordered was very good! Arugula salad with fresh beets, grilled octopus and the spread were also amazing. We stopped at Piccante for dinner. Since their move it had been difficult to get in unless you had a reservation (still recommend you make one). But we lucked out on getting in without a reservation. Server was friendly and took our order right away. We started with a mixed green salad which we shared. Then my husband had the chicken marsala and I had the spinach ravioli. Both very delicious. Piccante took over the space that had once been Sancho's Spanish restaurant. Some of the original decor is there but the new owners have made it their own and added special touches to make it Piccante's style. Very nice ambiance and well lit. read more

I highly recommend trying this Italian place if you are looking for something good to eat in bay ridge. They do get packed so make sure you call to reserve. You might not be able to get a table if you don't reserve in advance. I will definitely be coming back here to try their other dishes. You can't do wrong with anything really. I also enjoyed their gnocchi, you are able to substitute the protein I went with their sweet sausage instead of their spicy since I know my son doesn't like spicy. The new location has more seating which was needed as they were getting more customers and now has a fully stocked bar. It also had a bit of a rustic feel to it though it is a bit too loud. I walked over on a Friday evening and didn't mind the 20 minute wait for a table for 1. After reading the reviews. I decided the grilled calamari was definitely the way to start and I was not disappointed. It is a decadent appetizer longing to be shared. The table bread aand sauce were phenomenal. Yes, I ordered a bottle of wine based on my server's recommendation. I intended to take some home...didn't happen! Drank the entire bottle myself. The chicken and mushroom linguini was excellent, even if the chicken itself was a little rubbery. It was protein and it was consumed as such. The cream sauce was awesome and laid so nicely with the table bread. I had to stop myself from finishing the dish. It was quiet enough to have a conversation, or at least eaves drop ok the tables next to me. The light jazz in the background was perfect! Reasonably priced with plenty to take home for my daughter. This place is a gem. Whether you are ordering takeout or enjoying the ambiance of their semi-new location, this restaurant will definitely impress. The location is great for a date or family outing. It has an intimate atmosphere and the service is very friendly. The food they serve is Italian, but definitely not your average bolognese. Each dish has a little something extra/different to it that sets it apart from other Italian spots (and if you know the neighborhood, there are plenty!!). The pasta is also home-made, which is a plus. My favorite dish is their gnocchi, which comes in a pink sauce, with spicy sausage and mushrooms. My boyfriend loves their seafood risotto (it's way better than it sounds), which comes with shrimp, scallops, salmon, and calamari. Additionally, their portions are fairly large. Piccante is a small hole in the wall restaurant as another Yelper described, and I agree. It is honestly a GEM! For appetizer we got the prosciutto and mozzarella which wasn't anything too exciting. I probably won't be getting the prosciutto again but open to trying the other appetizers next time. However the star of the show are the entrees! The pasta is homemade and you can just taste the care that is taken with each dish. We got the pescattore risotto, honey braised short rib ragu, spinach ricotta ravioli and clam pasta. Everything was so delicious! The two dishes that stood out the most were the risotto and spaghetti with white wine sauce. My family literally could not stop eating the risotto, you just keep eating bite and after bite. I'm normally not the biggest fan of seafood rice but this hits the spot. The spaghetti with white wine sauce has plump clams that you just don't see nowadays. It wasn't the shredded looking sad clams that you normally get from cans. I only had 3 pieces of pasta because I didn't want to take too much from my Dad. Let's just say he was raving about this dish and cleaned that plate. For dessert we got the tiramisu and strawberry panna cotta to go! I don't like coffee so I strawberry panna cotta was a great way to end the night for me. My mom loved the tiramisu but wished it had more cake. The service was fantastic but the wait was very long. After the bread, we waited about 45minutes (Saturday night) just for our first dish to come out. To be fair there was only 1 server for the whole restaurant and it was packed. However, when all the pastas came out they were hot and smelled incredible. You kind of just forget about the wait once you get your first bite. Dishes were very affordable for the portion size! Wow! I feel like Piccante is severely underrated considering how amazing the food was. Bay Ridge has lots of great Italian restaurants, but I don't think i've enjoyed a meal more than this one. Started off with the bruschetta appetizer which was so fresh and had nicely toasted bread with olive oil. I had the lasagna for my entree, hands down the best lasagna i've ever had. It had those nice caramelized corners, a delicious tomato sauce, beautiful layers of cheese, meat, and pasta. I can't wait to try more dishes from here! Now for dessert, I was very full but decided to get the Italian cheesecake with blueberry compote. It was so fresh and definitely homemade. Very light and fluffy with a beautiful crust. The blueberry compote was sweet and tart at the same time and really elevated the flavors. My friend got the chocolate lava cake with ice cream and she really enjoyed that also! Also it has such a lovely, quaint, cozy ambience inside. There aren't too many tables but we went on a weeknight so it wasn't busy. The service was also very attentive. read more

It was a bit on the blander side, which I prefer because it allowed me to control how much salt it needs (as opposed for it being over seasoned). The hanger steak was just okay, nothing too extraordinary but I didn't mind it. Piccante is very affordable and very generous with the amount that you get for the reasonable price that you pay! This is really a gem in Bay Ridge. Another excellent meal at Piccante. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. The ambiance is simple. You need to make reservations at this boutique Italian restaurant. The only drawback to dining at Piccante is the tough parking. We ordered the Grill Calamari marinated in Pesto sauce as our shared appetizer. For our entrees, my group ordered the Black Fettuccine with shrimp and chorizo in a spicy marinara sauce, Fettuccine with clams, leeks and white wine sauce, and the Pan Seared Trout filet with garlic and lemon sauce, served with spicy broccoli rabe. I can see why reservations may be a good idea. The restaurant itself is cozy. It may not have been renovated in some time, but it was fine and I didn't notice any cleanliness issues some other reviewers have noted in the past. What was clear is that with just one gentleman manning the front of house and presumably with a cramped kitchen, they were probably running at or above capacity between the tables and the occasional take-out order. It took quite a bit of time to get water, orders taken, the (notably warm) bread, etc. Not the speediest of service, not the most attentive, arguably a bit rushed, but semi-understandable (but this can get old). The food itself ranged from pretty good to pretty great. It was indeed fresh pasta across the board, the portions were healthy, and the prices are very good. No, I think the prices are actually low. It feels like they are trying not to raise them too much. A lot of the pastas are $16-18 and meat secondis are $21-$26 -- I think everything could be 10-15% higher (though maybe you'd lose too many customers). I'm not sure there's much room to have an extra hand in front of house without taking up too much room in the cramped premises, but I also imagine they'd probably have to raise prices to cover that. And I'm guessing they need to think about where they're positioned in the neighborhood. If this is an explicit trade-off being made here, and given the business seems fine, who am I to argue. I think I'm more likely to do takeout in the future. read more

I highly recommend Piccante as the food is excellent with reasonable portions and prices, and service is great. I've come here a few times and have never been disappointed. I have gotten the Black Fettucine with shrimp, chorizo, and a spicy marinara sauce which packs a nice kick of flavor; the grilled calamari with pesto which I highly enjoyed; and the fried calamari which is pretty standard. More recently I've ordered the pan seared trout which I loved, as someone who rarely likes fish, and the gnocchi which was super soft and had a nice hint of spice. Fried calamari was simple, but tender and nicely battered, with a slightly spicy sauce. Lobster Ravioli in pink sauce was a special that was indeed special. Perfect sauce. Perfect Pasta. Came here famished after my glorious massage, looking for a simple but delicious Italian feast to take home. This checked every box. The restaurant is small, but very warm and inviting. Lisa, who I believe is the hostess, was so patient and utterly delightful. She is the perfect example of how a business should be represented. Kudos to Lisa for her wonderful service and hospitality! The reviews were spot on. Our verde salad, which consisted of baby tomatoes, greens and mozzarella was the perfect way to start our meal. The linguine with mushrooms and chicken in a cream sauce was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the pan seared duck with mashed potatoes and broccolini was also thoroughly enjoyed. A small hole in the wall spot that serves homemade pasta. I love it. There aren't many satisfactory places that still make homemade pasta without getting to busy/noisy. Thankfully, this place has coziness and the wait staff doesn't pressure you one way or another to buy more that you can finish. A sign of a good pasta restaurant is also how good their bread is. I was in Bay Ridge, looking at the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and thinking that Maria Bartiromo hails from around these parts of New York, with them clearly in her rearview mirror. I knew I wanted to eat Italian food. As I walked up from the greenbelt next to the bridge, some of the more established Italian restaurants and pizzerias are right there in front of you. I scanned the menu, if available outside, or went in. In one case, a more cavalier and apparently Italian-American guy handed me the menu and then got brusque - not as in mad, but in a "why did you even waste my time?" sort of way - when I handed it back to him. I kept looking for an Italian place and up came Piccante. It's farther away from the bridge, heading back up into Bay Ridge. I had a plate of pappardelle, on which they put Bolognese sauce at my request. I also had a Sprite. The bread kept coming as needed and it was good bread. The service was very responsive and relaxed. This is a somewhat more recent restaurant and, for the family who runs it, appears to be a labor of love. Also, the prices were acceptable and, if they can deliver a nice plate of pasta for what they do in and around San Francisco and Los Angeles, for example, then they can also do so in this borough of New York City. Piccante did so. The other places near the bridge did not, and that's why I kept walking. It's a little small inside, but Brooklyn doesn't have strip malls and all that breathing room to begin with. Other than that, the pasta was very tasty and filling, the pricing was fair, and the service made me feel welcome. I knew that, while in NYC, I wanted to eat an Italian meal, a Greek meal, and a Portuguese meal. I never made it to the Ironbound section of Newark for that Portuguese meal, the Greek meal was described in the (currently) preceding review, and the Italian meal at Piccante said "score!"
