Honestly ... one of the best restaurants on Emmons Avenue and seriously has to be mentioned among some of the best in the Sheepshead Bay area. Yes, I REALLY MEANT THAT. For the longest time I ignored Next Door because, well, no one thinks of Emmons Avenue as an Italian food haven. Typically, if you wanted good pizza, you could just go to Del Mar, V&S or the hundred other pizzerias in Brooklyn. If you wanted a good sit-down Italian meal you would visit restaurants like Anthony's Place, Joe's of Avenue U and Michael's of Brooklyn, which are further inland. And if you wanted good seafood, Randazzo's was right there. Next Door just seemed to be lost amongst a new wave of restaurants that opened in the area post-Sandy, but DO NOT overlook it like I did. My wife and I visited on Christmas Eve for our annual "just the two of us" Christmas dinner. It was pretty quiet at the restaurant, but there was a large party and a few other 2 person tables occupied. First thing's first, we loved how modern the restaurant was for the area. It was definitely different from the old school establishments that had been there for many years. Everything was very neat and clean, yet it also very casual inside. The Christmas decorations were simple and perfect. We knew the restaurant was known for their pizza, so that was a given that we were going to order it. In fact, a large portion of their menu was dedicated to just pizza. In addition to the pizza, the restaurant served some appetizers, salads, small/first course entrees, as well as some larger and more expensive second course entrees. To be honest, I didn't have much expectations when we came here, but we were shocked at how good just about everything was. GRILLED OCTOPUS - The octopus was served as small bite-size pieces and was excellent. We loved how light it was, yet very flavorful. We've been to quite a few seafood restaurants and, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but it was one of the best grilled octopus dishes I ever had. Like mos things that are good, we wanted more! RISOTTO PORCINI - Risotto with porcini mushrooms - I had my doubts after ordering this, but it was quite delicious. Risotto is really a hit or miss dish at a lot of restaurants and it's so dependent on the texture. Some restaurants make it too creamy and some restaurants make it too watery, but props to Next Door because they got it just about right. My wife thought it could have used a bit more flavor, but I felt it was almost perfect. It was one of the better risotto dishes I have had in a while. FUNGHI e TARTUFO PIZZA - Shiitake mushroom, caciocarvallo, fontina and truffle oil - This was the ABSOLUTE highlight of our meal and now that I had a few days to let it sink in, it is still one of the best pizzas I ever had. I know it's a bold statement, but we've been to some of the best pizzerias in America (Roberta's, DiFara, Paulie Gee's, Frank Pepe) and this was shockingly right up there with what we consider to be the best. If this pizza was served at a famous pizzeria, it would be getting so much attention because it was everything you'd want in a pizza - very thin crust, just the right amount of oil, plenty of shiitake mushrooms and, the ingredient that molds it all together, that ever-so addictive truffle oil. The truffle oil scent was so sharp and pungent it got us at hello. It was as perfect of a mushroom pizza that our taste buds ever enjoyed. NUTELLA PIZZA - Lastly, for dessert, we decided to indulge a little .. or a lot in the Nutella pizza, with strawberries and bananas on top. The pizza was solid, but we did have a few gripes. First, the pizza, wasn't really a pizza, but more of a doughy flatbread. We assumed they couldn't use pizza dough to hold it all together, but we would have preferred it as a base. To call it a pizza because it was shaped like one was an absolute sin. Second, where was the banana and strawberries? Yes, they added slices of bananas and strawberries, but they were cut so thin and small and were far and few in between. Bottom line, we would have preferred that they didn't skimp on the toppings. Our waiter throughout the evening was friendly, but he did forget to bring us a water refill. The restaurant was also pretty quiet, even though there was a large party celebrating. I'll be the first to tell you that I underestimated how good Next Door was and their food taught me a lesson. In fact, the Funghi e Tartufo is dare I say, pilgramage worthy! Everything we ordered was good, but the Funghi e Tartufo was literally to die for.

The experience was very disappointing. The ambiance and interior of this Italian restaurant in Sheepshead Bay were very nice. They had a lot of lights and a Christmas tree, along with candles for every table. But everything else was sorely disappointing. The wait staff ignored my table very often, even when we tried to get their attention. They rarely ever refilled our waters, which left my table and I very parched and thirsty by the end of the night. The margherita pizza was decent, and the filet fish had A LOT of bones in it. I had to spit out my fish every 2 seconds because there were a lot of bones. I know fish has bones, but I am not sure that this specific dish was supposed to come with any. Since all the wait staff cared about was talking amongst each other, it took us a VERY long time to get the bill. Overall, I would definitely not come back.

Next door is one of those restaurants I wanted to try on Emmons. Next door has excellent food and service. Me and my wife tried the margarita pizza and mushroom and onion pizza, with fried calamari. I felt the calamari could of been better cooked. The pizza is why you should come to this place . Fresh brick oven pizza at a reasonable price. The drinks are pricey but not too strong. I recommend this place if you want to taste great brick oven pizza. I will come back to taste More Italian cuisine.

Linguine with clams. Pasta al dente, seasoned well.
    Eleanor V.

I really love the Hawaiian pizza here, especially the thin crust. I got linguine and clams, it was pretty good. Pasta was al dente, flavor was good. However my friend ordered chicken Parm, and when it came with a side of mashed potatoes. Obviously we were both confused, Who serves chicken Parm with potatoes? I had seen a picture on Yelp in the past with pasta. So We questioned the waitress and she said they had changed it from pasta to potatoes a few months ago. How would we have known that? Perhaps you could've mentioned that when we place the order. Needless to say my friend was not satisfied with her meal, so I asked the waitress to replace the potatoes with pasta. Thankfully she said that she would check with the manager, and then came back with pasta.

I live in Manhattan, I always go all way down to this amazing restaurant just because of the fresh food and service. Next Door and Yiasou (same owners, next to each other) are the best Mediterranean restaurant in South Brooklyn. Amazing food and service. I highly recommend any seafood, you can't go wrong. Always fresh and delicious. It's always busy so try get reservation in advance.

So... I have been going to Yiasou (next door to Next Door... ;) ) for the past 13 years. I finally made it to Next Door... got the truffle pizza, beef carpaccio and tuna tartar - Emmons Avenue is BACK!!!! great food, check ... good scene, check ... was delicious and had a great time! P.S. the specialty pastas are a must P.P.S. the Nutella pizza for dessert

    Pat B.

Absolutely amazing! Food is delicious! You have to try the truffle pizza, beets, cheese, calamari and octopus.

I've been eating L&B Spumoni Gardens for as long as I can remember, and it remains exactly what it's supposed to be: loud, crowded, unpretentious, completely its own thing, and ridiculously good. The square slice is the square slice. Sauce on top, cheese underneath, crispy edges, soft center. Don't overthink it. Get one. Then realize you should have gotten two. The sit-down food is classic Brooklyn Italian comfort food, the portions are generous, and obviously you finish with the spumoni. This isn't precious food and it isn't trying to impress anybody. That's precisely the point. Brooklyn has changed about 9,625,247 times in my lifetime. L&B is still L&B. Five stars. Always.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a glass of wine, a beer, an arugula salad, and our main food order. Everything started out fine, and the salad came without a problem. But then we waited. And waited. About 30 minutes after we had ordered, I asked our waiter where our food was. He apologized and admitted that he had forgotten to put the order in. By that point, we had already watched other tables receive their food, including people who had arrived well after us. We continued waiting, and after roughly 40 minutes or more, our food still had not arrived. At that point, the dining experience was already ruined and we decided to leave. Ironically, just as we were getting ready to go, the food finally started coming out. I told them we no longer wanted it. The waiter did apologize again and offered us a pizza to take with us, which I assume was complimentary, but by then we were simply ready to leave. Even paying the bill became unnecessarily drawn out. We were charged the full amount for the salad, beer, and wine. I sat with a $50 bill ready to pay, was handed the check, and then ended up standing around for another five minutes waiting for someone to actually take the money. There was no apology from the person handling the payment. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciated that our waiter admitted he had forgotten to place the order. But when a restaurant makes that kind of mistake, the recovery matters. After waiting that long, watching later-arriving customers get served, and then having difficulty simply paying and leaving, an apology and a pizza at the very end didn't really fix the experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I can't say the service lived up to the restaurant's reputation.
