We went to a rooftop lounge for a birthday party of our friend. In a beginning everything was ok, but with the time passing by the service became worse and worse. At the end we waited for almost an hour to order a dessert, but even after we notified a busboy, the waiter didn't show up. We decided to pay and it took us another 25 minutes for the staff to process a payment. This is not a cheap place plus they include 20% tip in the bill. For that kind of service didn't deserve even 10%. It's not that I couldn't afford this place, but I would spend my money much better in many other places. Besides that the DJ plays music which is outdated, probably 30-40 years old and he play same song multiple times which is annoying. I would love to come back but probably never will. To be fair, I was at that restaurant before on a main level and it was Ok. I do not recommend a rooftop! read more

Honestly ... one of the best restaurants on Emmons Avenue and seriously has to be mentioned among some of the best in the Sheepshead Bay area. Yes, I REALLY MEANT THAT. For the longest time I ignored Next Door because, well, no one thinks of Emmons Avenue as an Italian food haven. Typically, if you wanted good pizza, you could just go to Del Mar, V&S or the hundred other pizzerias in Brooklyn. If you wanted a good sit-down Italian meal you would visit restaurants like Anthony's Place, Joe's of Avenue U and Michael's of Brooklyn, which are further inland. And if you wanted good seafood, Randazzo's was right there. Next Door just seemed to be lost amongst a new wave of restaurants that opened in the area post-Sandy, but DO NOT overlook it like I did. My wife and I visited on Christmas Eve for our annual "just the two of us" Christmas dinner. It was pretty quiet at the restaurant, but there was a large party and a few other 2 person tables occupied. First thing's first, we loved how modern the restaurant was for the area. It was definitely different from the old school establishments that had been there for many years. Everything was very neat and clean, yet it also very casual inside. The Christmas decorations were simple and perfect. We knew the restaurant was known for their pizza, so that was a given that we were going to order it. In fact, a large portion of their menu was dedicated to just pizza. In addition to the pizza, the restaurant served some appetizers, salads, small/first course entrees, as well as some larger and more expensive second course entrees. To be honest, I didn't have much expectations when we came here, but we were shocked at how good just about everything was. GRILLED OCTOPUS - The octopus was served as small bite-size pieces and was excellent. We loved how light it was, yet very flavorful. We've been to quite a few seafood restaurants and, I can't believe I'm going to say this, but it was one of the best grilled octopus dishes I ever had. Like mos things that are good, we wanted more! RISOTTO PORCINI - Risotto with porcini mushrooms - I had my doubts after ordering this, but it was quite delicious. Risotto is really a hit or miss dish at a lot of restaurants and it's so dependent on the texture. Some restaurants make it too creamy and some restaurants make it too watery, but props to Next Door because they got it just about right. My wife thought it could have used a bit more flavor, but I felt it was almost perfect. It was one of the better risotto dishes I have had in a while. FUNGHI e TARTUFO PIZZA - Shiitake mushroom, caciocarvallo, fontina and truffle oil - This was the ABSOLUTE highlight of our meal and now that I had a few days to let it sink in, it is still one of the best pizzas I ever had. I know it's a bold statement, but we've been to some of the best pizzerias in America (Roberta's, DiFara, Paulie Gee's, Frank Pepe) and this was shockingly right up there with what we consider to be the best. If this pizza was served at a famous pizzeria, it would be getting so much attention because it was everything you'd want in a pizza - very thin crust, just the right amount of oil, plenty of shiitake mushrooms and, the ingredient that molds it all together, that ever-so addictive truffle oil. The truffle oil scent was so sharp and pungent it got us at hello. It was as perfect of a mushroom pizza that our taste buds ever enjoyed. NUTELLA PIZZA - Lastly, for dessert, we decided to indulge a little .. or a lot in the Nutella pizza, with strawberries and bananas on top. The pizza was solid, but we did have a few gripes. First, the pizza, wasn't really a pizza, but more of a doughy flatbread. We assumed they couldn't use pizza dough to hold it all together, but we would have preferred it as a base. To call it a pizza because it was shaped like one was an absolute sin. Second, where was the banana and strawberries? Yes, they added slices of bananas and strawberries, but they were cut so thin and small and were far and few in between. Bottom line, we would have preferred that they didn't skimp on the toppings. Our waiter throughout the evening was friendly, but he did forget to bring us a water refill. The restaurant was also pretty quiet, even though there was a large party celebrating. I'll be the first to tell you that I underestimated how good Next Door was and their food taught me a lesson. In fact, the Funghi e Tartufo is dare I say, pilgramage worthy! The experience was very disappointing. The ambiance and interior of this Italian restaurant in Sheepshead Bay were very nice. They had a lot of lights and a Christmas tree, along with candles for every table. But everything else was sorely disappointing. The wait staff ignored my table very often, even when we tried to get their attention. They rarely ever refilled our waters, which left my table and I very parched and thirsty by the end of the night. The margherita pizza was decent, and the filet fish had A LOT of bones in it. I had to spit out my fish every 2 seconds because there were a lot of bones. I know fish has bones, but I am not sure that this specific dish was supposed to come with any. Since all the wait staff cared about was talking amongst each other, it took us a VERY long time to get the bill. Overall, I would definitely not come back. read more

I really love the Hawaiian pizza here, especially the thin crust. I got linguine and clams, it was pretty good. Pasta was al dente, flavor was good. However my friend ordered chicken Parm, and when it came with a side of mashed potatoes. Obviously we were both confused, Who serves chicken Parm with potatoes? I had seen a picture on Yelp in the past with pasta. So We questioned the waitress and she said they had changed it from pasta to potatoes a few months ago. How would we have known that? Fake Italian food with High prices. Always walked by and it was empty. We walked by Friday night and it was crowded. So we decided to go in. We ordered Chicken Parmasean and Salmon. Chicken was good with huge portion. It came with awful mashed potatoes. So that's a minus. My lady friend ordered Salmon which was very salty. The place is small and doesn't hold noise well. So the food was amazing! Not a big eater and I got the Greek salad , and regular pizza for kids. Which was also very yummy. The service was horrible, I'm not saying all waiters are; but I got one angry WAITER!!! He gave me the dirty look, then he wouldn't come up to my table for more then 35 minutes after I was done eating. By the way I came there with two small kids. The ambiance is classic and the food is good, but the service leaves much to be desired. The waiter came by twice to ask if we're ready to order and we just weren't yet, but then it took at least five minutes before we could wave him down. Then, once we finished our lunch, we waited for a good 10 minutes to get our check and then had to wave another waiter down to bring our credit cards back. Mind you, all of this is happening when there are only 5 tables occupied. As if this one waiter was the only one available to service all the tabled. There was at least one other one. The fish is always fresh and prepared to perfection. The salads are unique, creative and delicious. And the desert!!!! That Nutella Pizza!!! It's incredible!! The desert options are perfect to suit everyone's taste. It's the only restaurant where I can never skip desert- IT'S JUST TOO GOOD TO PASS UP!! Next Door is actually right next door to Yiasou Greek Restaurant, which belongs to the owner's parents. If you don't find us at next door- it's a safe bet that we are visiting mom and dad for some delicious Spanakopita and Humus. Me and my friend decided to get lunch on sunday, the service was disgusting and everyone starting from the girl in the front to the valley were so rude!!! Coming here in the summer is great too because you can sit outdoors :) They allow BYOB but have a cork fee of $15.. not bad at all.. although they have a fully stocked bar & the drinks are delicious! I feel bad for you, Next Door, because your rent must be expensive and you have to compete with about a dozen of other restaurants located on just a two-block stretch of Emmons Avenue. I understand that you absolutely must keep looking for creative solutions to increase your profit margin to pay your rent, to keep your staff, and to support your owners, but me and my friends are not going to support you and here is why: 1. We felt cheated when our $25 cheese and meet board arrived and we discovered a $1.99 per pound bologna - the one you would make sure not to buy in the Russian store even if you are in a mood for unhealthy Russian kielbasa ( pic is included) 2. How could you possibly mess up Brussels sprouts, Next Door? It should not be boiled- you should either fry or bake it (preferably the later) and you don't need a Michelin chef on staff to pull it off. 3. You should do some research and invest into coffee - the beans you are currently using left a burning sensation in my friend's mouth as a last impression of her unforgettable dining experience with you. Sorry we left early and decided to skip the entry. We heard from other Yelp reviewers that your pizza is great, but we don't eat pizzas and it was too risky to experiment with your branzino. So we paid (after returning our unfinished food) before heading to another place almost next door to you as we were determined to have a good time despite everything. After running on the rain directly to this place, we finally arrived. It was an empty restaurant with maybe two tables, we had to spend like 5 mins on the door b4 waitress finally came to get us. We set on the table, another 20 mins - no water, no bread and no server at all to ask us if we need anything. What would we want, lol, right? Might just came to stare at the walls lol. Finally after waitress came we were soooo ready for a dinner with what I asked for the glass of red wine. Meanwhile I live in this neighborhood, and I'm over 30 years old. The girl is asking me for my id, if I'm age appropriate to drink alcohol. I thought I misheard her for a moment, Bc you know I don't look under 21 at all. After asking why does she need to verify my age she was saying that it's a law that each and every customer customer has to provide Id, lmao can you just imagine if it's each and every- she has to ask even a men that are over 60, right? After me realizing that I'm not gonna get an answer WHY she needs my Id except of - it's a law, hell knows which one I asked for the manager hoping she will give some clarity and provide us certain level of hospitality. I'll repeat, I've never were asked for my ID IN THE RESTAURANT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD on sheepshead bay. After the manager came, that was epic Bc this woman was aggressively telling me that I have to show her Id for a glass of wine. That was just way too much for a moment, I simply didn't wanna stay there no more, Bc no one cared to smoth the conflict at all, but instead was giving attitude and attacking with that law that no one knows about. Just had a Valentine's dinner with them. For starters, this place is WAYYYY TOO OVERPRICED. $17 for a burrata when it's the size of a ping pong ball? Then they added some bologna to it to make it look fancy, some stupid waste of meat for that one. I ordered the salmon tartare....word of advice, if you're making a salmon tartare, don't add so much soy sauce to the point of where half of the tartare is EXTREMELY SALTY. Also ordered the Lobster Ravioli, 5 pieces of ravioli???? At least make it even and have 6 to split with. Funghi pizza was good. Service was very good. My view is this: you guys need a new chef, you need to lower your prices, or just shut down. The food was subpar -- we got the caesar salad, calamari, salmon burger, fettuccine alfredo, rib eye, whole branzino, linguine with clams, and another pasta & meat entree. Everything was either too salty or completely under seasoned. The best thing we had in my opinion was the caesar salad -- but it was just as good as the one you'd get at a nice local pizzeria. Usually service lacks in most places when trying to serve 14 people but not at Next Door. The good was excellent as well. We had all the appetizers and they were great. The burrata and beef carpaccio was excellent. I loved the truffle pizza and the Margarita. For main I had the bronzino and it was cooked to perfection the sauce it was in was light and complimented the fish well. For dessert I really enjoyed the Nutella pizza. The atmosphere was pleasant and the ambience was very trendy. Next Door is a gem in the south brooklyn area.
