The service was absolutely impeccable and extremely friendly. Attentive, but not obtrusive. We never had an empty glass. We just happened to wander in for happy hour. We ordered pizza and meatball sliders. The pizza was quite tasty. My spouse loved it. I fell in love with the meatballs. I took the bread off and just ate the meatballs. They're house made and quite tasty. But, again, I come back to the service. My husband is visibly tattooed and sometimes it effects the service. We were treated just as well as the gentlemen with the Rolex -- to me this is epitome of excellent service. I will definitely be going back. read more

Service here was pleasant, and prompt. The food lacked excitement. I had the rigatoni with carmelized onions, I didn't taste any onions. In fact this mean really lacked excitement, and was rather small. My sister had the gnocchi in a pesto sauce. I tried a little bit of her meal and it was tasty - but again nothing exciting. I'm not a huge gnocchi fan - but I am a fan of flavor. My sister's husband had the Penne. His dish was the best of the three I tried. Finally we ordered dessert, I had the Panna Cotta. I went to Piatti's this past weekend and was pretty much underwhelmed. The food was decent (had the ribeye steak with baked heirloom tomato and some appetizers, including the calamari and the melon with proscuito), but the part that killed the entire experience for me and my friends was the service. Specifically, the place seems to now be staffed by a group of younger college-aged students who all could use some training in being a more professional waiter. Our waiter was a bit aggressive and lacked the grace that you'd more typically expect in a nice Italian restaurant. When filling our water glasses, he splashed water out of the glass and in one instance got some water into the pasta entre that a friend of mine was eating. This happened more than once. On another occasion, the waiter threw down our appetizers and entrees, again, lacking the grace that you'd expect to get. I've previously eaten at Piatti's in the past, and it looks like things have changed (new logo, new menus, etc.). I hope that they clean up the service aspect; otherwise I might think twice about coming here again, even though the food was decent (and yes, the bread here is great). read more

Pasta sounded great, and the outside and inside made us want to ear at Piatti. None of the few pasta items on the menu sounded good. I wanted to order the beat salad without anything from the onion family. That was not possible because the dressing and beats cannot be served without the onions that area already part of it. I settled for a boring margarita pizza. The olive oil and balsalmic presentation was nice. Unfortunately, when I was using that to add flavor to my boring pizza, I was not offered more. Visited Piatti tonight after their remodel with high hopes! I used to love the Chicken Penne dish and was anticipating ordering it again. Sadly, they updated and removed it from their menu. I ordered the margarita pizza and it was delicious, but really wish they had the pasta. Their new space is much more modern, but I miss the warmth and charm of their old decor. Their new space is rather cold and not as intimate as before. Please bring back some of your old menu items! read more

This was my first time here and I'm a little torn. I really wanted to like this place but there are a few issues. First the terrible. The Caeser salad. BLAND, BLAND, BLAND. All I could taste was the radicchio and licorice. The dressing has no taste what so ever and I don't recall fennel as an ingredient. And the croutons were teeth breakers. I did eat about 2/3 of it because I wanted the greens. The Meh. The service. I swear everyone there was Eeyore. No personality or warmth. No how's everything, thanks for coming in. Literally 20 words from the staff to me the entire time I was there. It was just the bare minimum of service. The good. The bread with the dipping sauce. I could eat that everyday and be happy. And the meatballs. I tried the sauce first and thought why such a plain sauce? Then I tried the meatball. So so yummy. You don't need a super complicated sauce. The meatball speaks for itself. I went here for the first time with my colleagues yesterday for lunch. It seemed like a nice place and was fairly open and loud. We got seated right away since we had reservations, but it was an hour before we got anything (bread) to eat. The free bread and dipping oil was very tasty. It took another thirty minutes to get our main food. I ordered the Italian sandwich which was okay. It had very little meat and veggies on it which was disappointing. The flavor of it was good. The fries were okay. They had a bit of shredded cheese on them, but they tasted like normal fries. For almost $15, I feel like everything should have filled the plate. Absolutely unacceptable. There were 7 of us and no one will return to eat there again. The grilled octopus appetizer for $10.50 had one small tentacle on the plate. The Zuppe de Pesce had such a small amount of seafood, the shrimps were these tiny ones, the rock cod or other white fish were two small pieces, there were about 6 small clams and I don't think there was anything else. Overall not good. The service was bizarre. It must have been the waitresses first day ever, because that is the only way I could rationalize the awkward interactions. While the beet salad was great and the bread was warm and tasty, my main dish was lacking. I had the chicken parmesan. Chicken was decent, but the pasta that it came with was inedible. The pasta was so over cooked and the marinara sauce tasted like a terrible version of Ragu. I love pasta, so this was definitely a new low for me not to be able to eat it. I gave it two stars instead of one, because the atmosphere was nice and the salad was good. The waitress, while not great at her job, seemed very nice. read more

What a relief. Italian is not the "in" cuisine that it was in the 90's. I have been looking for a decent Italian restaurant serving a modern twist for quite some time. My first try at the "new" Piatti was great. We walked up and in and were seated immediately. None of the pretentiousness where the hostess makes you wait with a bunch of open tables just old fashioned hospitality. There was a little mixup about who our waiter was, but once that was cleared up we had a wonderful experience and attentive and prompt service. I'm a fan of Piatti's. It may not be the most authentic food in the world, but it's still quality Italian, and probably your best option in University Village. It's not in my usual grad-student budget, but I like to come here when I have family in town. Lunch is a little bit less expensive than dinner, and comes with the added bonus that paninis are available-- and they are delicious. My mom loved the one with pancetta. I would also recommend the goat cheese ravioli and the papardelle with prawns. The pizza margherita wasn't quite crispy enough for my taste, but the pizza funghi was quite good. There are better Italian restaurants in Seattle (Serafina in Eastlake comes to mind), but Piatti is a great option for the U-District area. I recommend it. read more

Service was not that great. We had our food come after a party that came after us. The server apologized and dessert was on the house. The food however made up for the service. I ordered the minestrone soup which was SO GOOD. The little spoonful of pesto matched with the tomato minestrone soup was just amazing. For my main dish I ordered the Penne with chicken, tomatoes, broccoli, and pine nuts. It was so good. That is all I have to say. I would recommend that dish. Just simply delicious. For dessert my friend and I ordered the Vanilla Panna Cotta. Perfect texture and flavor, accented with pomegranate seeds, a berry sauce, and crisp apples. A friend and I visited Piatti while I was in Seattle for a few days and we were passing time shopping in the village. There are multiple food choices in the village, but I was NOT disappointed by choosing Piatti! 1. The decor/ambiance. So cute!! We came on a Sunday later lunchtime, but surprisingly the place was still half/more than half full. We were seating promptly, and our cute waitress came over with the bottle of cold water with Piatti enscribed on it. Is water with no ice a Seattle thing? Because I noticed it in multiple restaurants. 2. The food. YUM!!!! They gave us focaccia bread- warm and herb crusted- surprising considering how expensive flour is these days, many restaurants have quit giving it away for free. It came with this cute vinegar/OO combination with herbs, the waitress swished it around in front of us before serving. I liked it considering most Italian places only serve oil with herbs and it can get a bit heavy. I ordered a ceasar salad to start and the sopresatta pizza (my friend ordered the margarita). The ceasar had a little too much parmesean on it, but the dressing was great and the lettuce size perfect. Our pizzas were great- well, I can only comment on my own as I didn't try my friends but she said it was great. Thin crust, my sopresatta was great with sweet peppers. I ate almost all of it, which is a 3-4 pieces. I wanted to order dessert but was seriously too full, too bad because their panna cotta sounded amazing. Overall, I was very pleased with our meal at Piatti and if I am ever in Seattle again for an extended period of time I will definitely go there! read more

My friend and I come here TONS for the happy hour. I think it's probably our favorite spot for a Saturday happy hour jaunt. The martinis are tasty, the Soprasatta Pizza is delicious and the Aracini is delicious. The service is great when you're a regular and the barkeeps know your drink before you even sit down :) Had dinner once here, it was decent, but not fantastic. Half price bottles of wine on a weeknight was enough to convince us to venture out of the city into the U district to try it out. The restaurant was in a nice outdoor shopping area and the space itself was like any other upscale Italian place - nice view of a fairly open kitchen. Service was fast and accurate and the bottle of wine was well worth the discounted price. Piatti does accommodate gluten allergies well so just let your server know and you'll be taken care of. My gluten-free wife ended up with the risotto with steak on top. She loved the risotto, but the steak was fatty and undercooked and she just pushed it to the side. I had some fresh pasta with short rib and it was fantastic. We skipped dessert and found some self-serve fro-yo instead. read more

We arrived here right after the wedding ceremony of my friend (congrats Emmy and Kiana!) and went to this place for dinner. We had bread with this vinegar oil and it was delicious! We also had the polenta fries which are also really good. As a drink, I ordered the fire bird, which was strong, but sweet. We all cheered for the newly weds and then our food came in. I had the Butchers Meatballs which was also really good and the plate definitely filled me up (so full!) The staff treated us so nicely and they were quick and responsive. Always a great meal here. I've been to Piatti's more times than I can count - usually for family gatherings and special occasions. But this weekend I went for a girls night out, 7:30pm dinner. Made a reservation but it wasn't needed (maybe everyone was busy for Sea Fair). The food has never been anything less than exceptional. It's a little on the pricier end of things ($17+ per entree) but portions are fair and the flavors are clean and delicious. I had the chicken marsala with mashed potatoes and it was lip-smacking satisfying. Great ambiance and service, as usual. 5 stars so of COURSE I'll be back. read more

Well, in retrospect, an Italian restaurant probably wasn't the best place to try out gluten free dining, but at least they had a gluten free menu here, which was a nice touch. After snagging some crayons to draw on the paper tablecloth, we ordered the butternut squash soup, but being that it's the end of winter and my patience for the gourd has nearly entirely run out, I don't think that soup could have won my complete favor even if it was made by God. It was okay. So we ordered these sandwiches that came without the bread part, which means it was basically a salad. A really SMALL salad. For $12. Hey, I said we wanted "gluten free", not "fullness free" or "please take my money for nothing". I mean, other places when you don't order the bread they usually kind bulk up on other ingredients. Oh well, it's not like it's reasonable to expect it, I guess. Anyhow, there's nothing truly wrong with this place, and the pear ice cream was kind of interesting, but overall I kind of felt like I just spent too much and it wasn't a very exciting dining experience. we've enjoyed Piatti before and returned for their calamari and Bloody Mary's while shopping on Saturday afternoon... the calamari is deep fried with fennel and green beans... this time it was a little on the bland side and the calamari was cold. We sat at the bar and the bartender, who was very friendly before the food arrived, didn't seem to show up again until it was time for us to leave. The previous time, we were pleased with the same meal...maybe it was an off day? 11/28/11 update: the manager reached out to me to thank me for the review - apologizing for the bad service and stressing the importance of feedback from their clientele. I was not too impressed with this place. I would probably give this 2.5 stars if possible. We came in as a party of three without reservations. We were seated right away. The atmosphere is slightly louder than average, and a casual environment. No view. For food we ordered bruschetta as an appetizer. It was okay, it's a chef's take on it. I liked the free bread and olive oil better. For food I ordered the salmon ratatouille. I love fish and hesitated just because it was the most expensive item on the menu. It wasn't that great. The fish itself was great, but the ratatouille was overpowered by tangy green olives. I love olives, but the flavors did NOT complement each other at all. I did not finish my plate. My husband ordered their penne pasta. He also was not impressed with his plate. Our guest ordered the pizza which he enjoyed and ate all of it. The service was average. I have no complaints here. She didn't really offer any recommendations or have any personality. But she kept our bread bowl full. Since that was the only thing I enjoyed there, I was happy for that. read more

The descriptions on their menu overstated the food: - Starter bread was nice and warm, but they were cheap with the olive oil/balsamic vinegar. They served a sallow, lightweight, non-virgin olive oil. All fat and no flavor. - They charge $3 for lemonade refills (?!) - The gorgonzola in their pear salad was this waxy, white cheese. Little flavor. No blue whatsoever. Here was our tab: $60 for a lemonade + 1 refill, a diet coke, small spinach pear salad, one lasagna, and one linguine with clams. The last dish was $16, but it tasted OK. Foodies should skip this place 'cause you'll be disappointed. Non-foodies should look elsewhere for less expensive, better quality Italian food. read more

Ack, an Italian restaurant in a mall? Piatti used to be a chain that I would avoid, why eat Piatti here when I could be comforted with Italian chain food in Hawaii? Well, the food is great, the bar is excellent and large and the food quality has improved by leaps and bounds in the last few years. Oh, its also on Open table and can accommodate all sorts eaters including my older parents and my younger cousins. We went there this Tuesday when I threw in the dishtowel. I had my normal insalata pesce with yellowtail tuna, TH had a nice Pear salad with booth canyon pears and a lovely thin crust pizza with locally foraged mushrooms. Great service, nice table (booked on Open Table at 5:30 for a 7 pm ressie) and no dishes. Oh, did I mention their bar? Campari and soda within .5 miles of my house. I'm happy. read more

I had lunch here 10 or 15 times - pleasant ambiance, good service. The option of half servings is useful for my dieting daughter, the bread is good. Pastas are generally excellent, and sandwiches a good deal. One can watch sporting events from the few tables near the bar with a view of the TV - that worked for two World Cup matches for us, but it's not ideal. The patio on a warm day is good, but it's hard to imagine one is in Tuscany looking at the parking lot or else University Village shoppers. read more

Great place for pasta or even for happy hour. They have a great hibiscus sangria, but I am not sure if is seasonal. Good place for a date or to have a nice lunch after shopping. We came to celebrate Christmas Eve here. We go to different restaurants every year and wanted to come here this time because they offered a gluten free menu for one of our guests. Very accomodating for infants. They have high chairs and slings for carseats. I ordered the filet medallions, w mushrooms a jus, crispy polenta and gorgonzola. Honestly for a dinner size.. its quite small.. I was expecting a lot more. One of the other guests w us had the trout.. although it was tasty which everything was.. it was small as well.. and there were no sides.. no veggies or a starch.. slightly disappointing. Overall taste was great.. prices were mehh.. for the price we paid there should've been more on the plate. Great service. read more

I've lived near the village for decades, so I'v been here often. Piatti was one of the first restaurants in the village that was more than a quick stop food fueling station. Frankly, initially I was not impressed. So-so Italian in a so-so space, at too high prices. I had the impression they didn't really care. A few years ago that all changed. New management, new head chief, a major renovation. Now the space is comfortable and inviting, The staff is friendly and welcoming. They seem to care about making the customers experience a positive one. Whether I'm in the main room or the bar, I feel very well taken care of. (I've been coming here enough that I have a favorite table and a favorite place at the bar). The food is very satisfying. I am very grateful that they make a point to cater to people like me that are gluten intolerant. They have a gluten free menu and can make their pasta gluten free. Unlike some restaurants that have gluten free pasta, they do their's perfectly. No pasta envy here. I love the white bean and kale soup, also the gem salad ( excellent white anchovies, I always beg for an extra). Although I've been in many times, I've never got beyond soup or salad and pasta. When I stop in I have the pasta bug bad and need to scratch that itch. Finally, a good wine selection, representing a PNW and Italian choices, and a good cocktail list. This is not authentic Italian food by any stretch of the imagination. It is a chain after all. The atmosphere feels a bit like a mall or an Olive Garden. We were hungry and I saw butternut squash ravioli on the menu. I am such a sucker for butternut squash anything! The ravioli was perfectly portioned (six raviolis) and savory with a just the right amount of sweetness. It's a great vegetarian dish. My partner had one of their pizzas which was a thin crust with sweet red pepper and pepperoni. He enjoyed it immensely. The bread and the herb olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette is very yummy. I could have eaten the bread for my main course. So good! Overall, I would not make a special trip to eat here, but if I am shopping at the U-Village and have a craving for Italian food Piatti is not a bad option. read more

Good place for a classier meal, good service, and tasty liquor. I like the intimate setting: this is good for a small group of friends, a romantic dinner date, or a more casual but professional lunch. Awesome bread (I know, not something people usually rave about...) and excellent pasta (it's mostly handmade, I think). I also love the chicken dishes, because they do a good job keeping it moist and tender, without it being greasy. It also has a extensive wine, champagne, and scotch list (thumbs up). Note: the location is both good and bad. It's in U-Village, and because I went to UW and lived near campus, it was convenient. But otherwise, U-Village isn't really a get-away or special-occasion spot. There was no view and you're surrounded by college shopping college students or loud families out on the weekend. I'm reviewing this restaurant based on 1 visit. I will return again and update this review pending a second visit. Today's meal was good, albeit a little pricey. I ordered a panini with peppadew peppers (my favorite) and carmalized onions on a soft chibatta roll. It was very good. I did have a problem getting overcharged for a beverage. When they have a special running, whatever it is, its a good deal. One thing sticks out in my mind, though---I made reservations for lunch on a Saturday. They stuck our party of two in a far corner of the restaurant against a wall. I heard walk ins getting much better tables. I went through the trouble of making a reservation, shouldn't I get a better table? That sort of thing makes your realize its a chain. They lost a star for that. I have to admit that I was looking for something more special about this place. We had dinner for two. First the food: it was OK but nothing I'd come back for. I had the LUGANEGA (House-Made Fennel-Pork Sausages, Pancetta, Roasted Potatoes, Red Bell Peppers, Grilled Onions, Escarole & Stone Ground Mustard Vinaigrette) which sounded great but was not all that exciting. It was rather dry and not fantastic. Dinner wasn't cheap and wasn't stellar for the price. The wait staff was great and made sure things were OK. But I ordered what I ordered and what can I say? I was stuck with this and enjoyed the potatoes. The other thing I found out later is that this is a chain restaurant. I try to support the independent businesses and thought this was one but there is a website with a bunch of these restaurants. I was left with mixed feelings about their pene pasta dish. The broccoli was exceptionally well seasoned and cooked possibly the best broccoli I've had, but other than that, the dish was appallingly incongruent! I'm still baffled to what the sauce was. It was a very watery tomato sauce with chunks of over-peppered tomatoes and unseasoned chicken in it. I have no idea why they didn't just go with a creamy sauce as would have complimented the broccoli and compensated for the inherit dryness flavor of chicken. Anyhow the experience was OK for the price and you'll definitely want the small portion unless you plan on taking half of it home. Of course you'll get your pasta slightly undercooked, in accordance with the unwritten laws of Italian restaurants delivering "authentic" taste, and you do get the whole cheesy Parmesan cheese tell-me-when-to-stop song and dance. I liked the ambiance, the decor was simple and worked well, enough spacing between tables, and there was adequate space on the table, even though the booth was slightly small for my size a person.
