Special Pho & Viet Supreme
Barron Cedric T.

It was a great dining experience to eat here on a not-so-busy Tuesday evening. I enjoyed the open air setting of the restaurant. Their material and decor could use some mixing up though. Their food menu is old and worn out with the updated pricing just scribbled onto the board itself. I do not get the interior design theming of the place. There are some wine and alcohol bottles displayed on the walls. I do not know how that fits into the overall concept of the place. It does not look like the place is billing itself to be a modern Vietnamese restaurant or a Vietnamese fusion. For the food, we ordered the Special Pho ($15), Viet Supreme ($7), and an Avocado smoothie ($5.95). The Pho got served first. Between the Pho & the Banh Mi, it was enough to share between 2 people. I have no complaints with the food and the service we received. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have some Vietnamese food while also enjoying some open air dining experience.

This area is quickly building up with some interesting choices. There's now several decent Pho options that's beyond the traditional mom and pop dive. This is a fairly decent sized place with modern decor. The menu has some interesting options that's beyond just Pho like Salmon wrapped in Banana Leaf. I'll have to come back and give it a shot. I had the lemon grass pork on vermicelli and everything seemed very fresh. I liked the pork, but wished it was grilled, but the spring roll was fantastic albeit a little on the small side. All in all, the first shot at the food seemed pretty good, though you might have to sit through some of the service pains. I had to have a quick sit and go as I had an appointment to go to, and when the server dropped off my food, it was missing the hot sauce and hoisin. By the time I got the waiter's attention I was 1/2 done. The seats by the door is going to be cold in the winter. It wasn't even that cold tonight, but every time that door opens, it's a huge gust of wind. They need to add a giant drape to solve that. There was other issues going on tonight that might be a bit too nit picky by me, so I'm going to say this is all part of just growing pains I hope. Always excited to see something new in the area.

I was reco'd the Banh mi combo with fries and a drink. This place is huge once you're inside.

I was told the Banh mi deal with fries and a pop was a decent lunch special so that was my choice here. I opted for the beef. With that choice offered, I knew right away this wasn't the traditional Vietnamese Banh mi. Now that I know there are two types, I will pay attention to the menu. Traditional Banh mi (means bread) uses a crusty French baguette and the other modern one can have a soft bun like Mr. Sub. Trad uses cold cuts and slices of Vietnamese salami like lemongrass, where the modern one can have fresh grilled meat hot off the grill. Trad also always has the mint leaves, chilis, and plenty of marinated carrot strips where the modern is more stark as a default. On the side were some crispy hot fries and a nice little tub of mayo for dipping. Since I'm more used to the trad version, I found Phosome's take on Banh mi too plain without the kick of the mint leaves and chilis sliced paper thin that I'm used to from Banh Mi Nguyen Huong Food on Spadina. More underwhelming calorie-wise as well, since the trad includes some spam-style meat spreads that go-in-before-the-name-goes-on type thing and provide a foundation for satiating my hunger until supper time. Phosome Banh mi was also quite small. I normally opt for the large $4 at Nguyen Huong which is similar to getting a 12" at Mr. Sub vs. what Phosome had was equivalent to a 6" at Mr. Sub. Check if they offer a large version, or extra toppings when you order if you're hungry or get two! It was tasty af!

Nice inside, we could choose our seat (high top, bar, booth). Service was fast and friendly. They offer a full vegan menu which is awesome! Bathrooms are clean and fun (see pics). Jicama-peanut fresh roll (10/10): Bursting with flavor, incredible ginger like peanut sauce, and it's served warm! Would order again and again Veggie dumplings (7.5/10): crunchy but lacks flavor in the filling. However, the delicious chili sauce saves the dish since I'd probably dip anything in it and have it taste good Spicy Hue Noodle Soup (8.5/10): partner said the broth was very flavorful. She gambled and found it (luckily) to not be too spicy. Serving is huge, she took 3/4 of it to go. Veggie fried rice (8/10): adorned with pineapple and three faux meats, the mixed veggies make this different with every bite. I wish it was a bit spicier, but it's delicious served as-is. Mixed drinks were on special and they tasted like it. Not strong at all. A good start to our Toronto stay.

Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. Next time I'd like to try their banh xeo and com sườn bì chả.

They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I had a fish cake with dill vermicelli soup which was delicious. It came with the usual side of sprouts and greens to use as toppings. My bill was $23 with tip on my card for the soup. Service was quick and efficient with plenty of staff around to help you enjoy the experience. The front patio is really nice! Will be a great spot to eat while people watching at this iconic corner.

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle. Service was good, especially for an Asian place.

Right down to the non-white washed clientele. So, please keep this place to yourself as I would hate to line up the next time I come.

Everything we tried felt interesting, flavorful, and also very reasonably priced, which made the experience even better. The Dry Pho with Spiced Beef was definitely a standout, the beef was super tender, and I liked that it came with a bowl of clear broth on the side, though it was a little salty for me. The Pho Poutine with Fries was so satisfying, loaded with beef, rich sauce, and cheese. We also tried the Betal Leaf Wrapped Beef, and having it wrapped like a taco was surprisingly delicious. My favorite might have been the Fried Spring Rolls though, so crispy on the outside, with a generous and tasty filling. Got the dry pho with chicken - personally would prefer a bun (vermicelli) instead. The green onion tofu had a good flavour with the sauce but found it was fried a bit too much, making it crispier than I'd like (it felt more like tofu skin than I could enjoy the tofu itself). The stuffed chicken wing was my favourite of the 3, just felt slightly pricey for what it was. The mango sticky rice cocktail was delicious - would get again.
