Grilled Chicken and Shrimp Noodle Soup
Kyra K.

Phosho Dough is a great neighborhood pho spot! I was feeling under the weather, so my companion took me out for some pho. The shop is quaint and cozy. There's fun wall art and a decent number of tables to dine at. Ordering and payment are done at the front, but food is brought out to you. Service was efficient, and the staff was kind. I had the Grilled Chicken and Shrimp Noodle Soup. Normally, I get chicken pho, but this item intrigued me. The grilled meat tasted typical, but the broth was extremely flavorful and didn't taste like your usual pho broth. I loved how warm and filling it was. I was only able to eat some of it. Companion enjoyed his pho! Phosho Dough is a must-go to for pho in the area! It's casual, food is good, and it's a nice family neighborhood spot. Definitely will be my new go-to place for pho, and I can't wait to try more of their items! They're located off San Pablo Ave. with street parking.

grilled pho.. pork/shrimp added bokchoi & classic beef pho.. tendon /lemongrass beef added bok choi

Classic Pho yesterday north of here & here fusion pho today. Thank you rain!...Michael came by to do some fence work but got rained out so off we went lunch. A great choice. M got the grilled pork/shrimp pho tom heo nuong...an amazing smokey infused deeply flavored broth & a ton of grilled pork & shrimp (which I tasted & was truly awesome!) I had a classic beef pho with mainly tendon but with an addition of lemongrass beef ....another triumph of fantastic broth and shovelfuls of beef. We both included an xtra of bok choi! The only wish I have it that they use lime rather than lemon in the platter of bean sprouts and Thai basil leaves ( a minor quibble) The other great detail are their bowls.....really gorgeous! be back soon!

Veggie noodle soup

Come here for the banh mi mostly. I've had their other dishes which are good but the banh mi is better. Just came by on Saturday at 5pm. They were out of bread which was unfortunate and kind of odd as we really wanted banh mi. Ordered the veggie pho which was large and had a lot of veggies. My only issue with it is the broth is pretty bland and the tofu could use some spicing up. I prefer the tofu to not be fried in the way they prepare it for a pho - I like the non battered just regular tofu style. I've also had the vermicelli which is good. Nice service and pretty good ambiance. Seating area is limited but you can usually find a spot to sit down. Cash payment is a 5 percent discount FYI.

Stopped by this pho shop because of their close proximity to a guitar center but also their nearly perfect reviews on Google, and was not disappointed! The good: - unique fusion pho-- get their grilled beef and shrimp pho. The pieces of lemongrass from the grilled beef coats the broth with lemon grass and is so so tasty.... I like the texture of their noodles as well. - staff were amazing, helpful, and helped me understand what I was eating, even offered me a taste of their satay broth which is phenomenal if you like spicy foods. I will get that next time. - it's nice and rare to see a pho restaurant that has such happy workers... this place deserves all the praise it gets and I hope they open a location in San Francisco soon! Rooting for them!!!! The meh: - nothing, they have plenty of paid street parking so bring your quarters or you can buy some from the staff!!!!

Spontaneous find that exceeded expectations. Clean spacious area with indoor seating and outdoors. Really friendly service! We got pho with beef and meatballs - the broth tastes so clean and flavorful and the noodles are deliciously chewy!!! Most pho places serve overcooked noodles but this place had the best texture of noodles. Spring rolls with grilled shrimp - generous amount of shrimp (like 3 full pieces of shrimp) and the shrimp is seasoned and grilled!! It's really delicious. Thai tea is really good, strong and sweet. This place serves Vietnamese food better than other places, whether it's chewier noodles, stronger Thai tea, or grilled shrimp vs plain - these things definitely makes a big difference!!

Grilled Chicken Soup was fire

Bona fide winner and will be returning. Staff was good, food was good, and very central to where I was working. They had some unique options and everything was fresh and made to order. Soups were flavorful, they had plenty of chicken options, and the rolls were delicious. They tried to be a bit stingy with the sauces but that was cool. I was very satisfied with my choices and will be returning. You should to.

A stacked shrimp and pork banh mi

What a gem of a spot in Berkeley! Service is so friendly and helpful if you have any questions or recommendations. Loved everything that was recommended to us! Free street parking (a huge plus) and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Fried egg roll spring rolls: these have a great mixture of textures and flavors! Had mine with fish sauce because I have a peanut allergy, but usually comes with a peanut sauce! The egg rolls were nice and crispy and was packed with greens and lettuce. These are FAT. I'd probably get full off of this dish alone. Shrimp and pork banh mi: stacked with helllllla meats and the shrimp are massive. So filling and so cheap too! Love the amount of pickled veg. We also got a side of beef soup for dipping and I basically just chugged broth after each bite. Grilled fish egg noodle pho: get the side of spicy flavor bomb (I don't know the actual name for this) on the side, it's a paste of a bunch of different ingredients, filled with unami and some birds eye chilis so you can adjust the amount of spicy yourself. Girl, did they put a whole fish is here?? The portion of fish was craaaazy. Egg noodles were the perfect texture, I ate this one uuuup. If I had to choose, this was my favorite dish I tried.

Pork Bahn Mi

Spoiler alert*extensively long review incoming Some of the things I ask myself when I try a place are -how expensive is it? -how much food in proportion do I get? -Is it good? My humble answers to those questions in relation to Phoshodough are -Defintely affordable -Its a great bang for your buck -everything is flavor packed It's the trifecta in my opinion, but let me go in more depth and touch upon and few more aspects of why I left Phoshodough delightfully satisfied Upon entering, me and my partner automatically felt positive vibes from the warm welcomes by the staff. We didn't come in with a game plan of what to get but luckily the staff helped us a lot with great suggestions of what to get. We got some inside info on customizations of their mainstay items to add a bit of a different dimension and flavor profile. Granted there is an upcharge for the extra ingredients but well worth it. What we tried and followed thoughts Food: -beef pho broth subbed in egg noodles and grilled fish instead of the vermicelli and beef that it comes with. On the side, a satay sauce that you can either mix into your bowl or add per alternating bites. Impression: Combining the beef pho broth with the grilled fish fillets would be a new experience for me. Its one of those things I've never thought about but it works. It adds another essence of umami to your standard pho. The fish holds it structure and integrity. It yields that chewy texture while maintaining a tenderness that you expect. The egg noodles also adds another chew texture to each bite that vermicelli noodles don't for me. They give a boatload of fish and noodles. It's like skimping is not apart of their vocabulary. Lastly the biggest game changer would be the addition of the satay sauce. Its like a refresh factor that allows a dish to not be as monotonous. It has the spice and nuttiness when you alternate between bites. Highly suggest this method if you don't mind the extra labor curating each bite. -pork bahn mi add shrimp. Extra bowl of beef broth on the side for dipping. (Kind of like a take on a French dip with au jus) Impression:speaking on the bahn mi itself. It's monstrous in a good way. It's daunting at first when deciding how to eat it but you realize it's a multi biter if you want to enjoy all the components at once. The pickled veggies are fresh and the pork is flavorful. The bread has that crunchy exterior that doesn't cut the roof of your mouth while the flesh of the bread itself has that soft bounciness. Now imagine adding shrimp to it. Definitely surf, definitely turf, definitely bomb. I legitimately think if you could split it into two meals and feel satisfied or eat it in one sitting and feel full. Although I wish I tried the peanut sauce. I think the fish sauce was the move for the amount of food. It was light, clear, and help cut through the meatiness that this sandwich offers with the slight acid in it. -fried egg rolls wrapped in spring rolls w their signature fish sauce/nuoc mam cham instead of their peanut sauce. Impression: First time trying this dish. I think it's best element is that the spring roll wrapper insulates the crust friend egg roll and prevents it from getting soggy. I love dunking and soaking my spring rolls/egg rolls in the sauce so each bite is coated. Usually doing that is a trade-off for texture. Whereas with this is maintains that crunchy factor for longer. Especially when the outside is super soaked. The only pitfall which is not really a pitfall is if you don't eat it within a reasonable time. The spring roll wrapper starts to be less pliable and hardens. That in turn makes it tougher to chew. Drinks: -twisted Thai iced tea(their Thai iced tea mixed with their Vietnamese coffee) Impression: I like this because the biggest issue with having options is being indecisive. So if you want thai iced tea or Vietnamese coffee. You can have the best of both worlds with this drink. -Citrus blonde ale from pure project Impression: it's a nice light ale that pairs really well. Dessert: A-Pho-Gato (Thai iced tea with a scoop of vanilla and a mint garnish) Impression:if you like Thai iced tea vanilla and mint. You'll like this dessert. I enjoyed the mint garnish. I like the freshness it applies. I actually wanted more mint so I don't have to be too calculated on when to have the mint with the tea and ice cream but that's just me. Closing statement: I honestly wish I had a location near me. The food was delicious and met my expectations if not exceeded them. I can tell a lot of mindfulness and work goes into maintaining the quality of food. Also shout out to one of their staff, Thomas. If it wasnt for his suggestions. I don't think we would've had these combinations to try.

Grilled Shrimp Spring Roll, Pork and Shrimp Noodle Soup, Spicy Sauce

Vietnamese with a twist that hits every time. Solid service and flavor that has become a staple in my local rotation!

Today around lunchtime I was driving on San Pablo Ave and wanted something quick to eat, so I walked into Phosho Dough. The place isn't big, the décor is simple, just like a typical small Vietnamese shop. I went in around 1 p.m., it wasn't very busy, and I found a seat and ordered right away. I got a bowl of beef pho and a pork banh mi. When the pho came, my first impression was that the portion was slightly larger than what most Vietnamese places serve--more broth and noodles, but not so much that you can't finish. The broth tastes quite authentic, on the lighter Vietnamese side, not oily or heavy, and the seasoning is balanced. They give a decent amount of beef slices too; even toward the end there's still meat, not just noodles. Overall the flavor is straightforward but good--something you'd probably order again. The pork banh mi was a pleasant surprise. The bread was toasted just right--crispy outside, soft inside, not too hard. The pork has good flavor, seasoned in a traditional way, and they add slightly more pickled veggies and cucumbers than usual, so each bite has good texture. The sandwich is a bit larger than average, filling but not overly heavy. Looking around, most people seemed to be ordering similar items. Portion size definitely seems like one of the strengths of this restaurant--not huge, but just a little more than average, enough to feel satisfied. The prices are also reasonable, especially for this area. The environment is clean and simple, nothing fancy, but easy to eat comfortably. This is the kind of place you come for convenience and reliable food, not for ambiance. Overall, today's meal was good: authentic flavor, reasonable prices, slightly larger portions, and filling. It's not a place that blows you away, but if you're nearby and want Vietnamese food without spending too much, Phosho Dough is an easy, low-risk choice. I might come back next time to try their spring rolls or other noodle dishes.

Meatballs Pho on the sidewalk of Berkeley.

Decent meatballs Pho plus fresh coconut juice. Recommend $$. And it was a yes! And enjoy the bustling sidewalk too.

Shrimp and Pork & Shrimp Vermicelli Bowl

I'm a sucker for dining places like Phosho Dough that have a big screen tv showing a place, cooking show, or movie that references where their cuisine originates - it's like being transported to another place. Phosho Dough is a cute, hip spot for tasty Vietnamese fare. My shrimp and pork vermicelli bowl was gigantic and filled to the top with plenty of meat, veggies, and herbs. Everything was fresh and I was able to make two meals of it. Looking forward to trying more of their eats!

Walked in with a friend and was really excited for the different menu options. Menu looked great, liked what I saw on social too! I had the chicken vermicelli and it was sooooo good! Really hit the spot. For me the highlight was the fried egg rolls wrapped in a spring roll! I haven't had anything exactly like that so it was a cool twist! Thai tea was awesome too! Service was nice, staff checked in a few times which was nice and the place was cute! I liked the seating pretty comfy and had indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely coming again to try more of the menu!

Yum yum yum! Saw the photos and thought this place looked good, so decided to come on a Saturday…read moreafternoon. The food did not disappoint! When we got to the restaurant it was busy! They are a mom and daughter restaurant so family owned; everything is made to order so don't expect quick service especially if it's busy! We ordered the Banh Khot as an appetizer and it was so yummy. Crispy yet soft, hot, and full of flavor, it's accompanied with lettuce and mint. I ordered the spicy pork belly and yes it's very spicy but full of flavor. The portion had 5-6 large pieces of pork with 2 eggs as well, and with a side of rice. This place is lowkey on the outside but inside is clean, tables are well spaced out, and they play light music so you don't have to yell at each other. Would definitely come back here again!

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. It adds so much flavor and makes the whole dish feel extra satisfying. One small tip, I'd recommend asking for a bit more lime with the dipping sauce. The pepper-to-lime ratio leans pretty heavy on the pepper side, and I personally like a little more acidity to cut through the richness of the beef. The eggroll appetizer is also worth mentioning. They come out nice and crispy, and wrapping them in the lettuce with the dipping sauce adds a great contrast in texture and a fresh layer of flavor. It's a simple touch, but it really elevates the dish. The pho is solid and pretty standard, no complaints there, but the shaking beef is definitely the star. The atmosphere is very family-friendly. There were kids playing and interacting with each other, which gave the place a warm, community feel. My little one was a bit shy when some kids came over to say hi, but it was still a welcoming moment. The interior is spacious, so I wouldn't worry about bringing a larger group. And for accessibility, there are a couple of steps at the entrance, but there's a lift on the right side, and a flat entrance in the back for wheelchairs or strollers, which is a nice touch.
