This review is 2 days late, due to family in town. We choose Phoebe's for breakfast Sunday morning. We beat the rush and were immediately seated. The menu was extensive. One thing I loved was that they offered an alternative to milk or half and half for coffee. They had an option for almond milk, which I loved. Secondly the offered Momo's for your michelada's, a delicious alternative to any for of tomato juice. If you haven't tried Momo's do yourself a favor and give it a whirl. As an appetizer, I ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were so good, actually some of the best I have ever had. Served with a buttermilk ranch dressing and some hot sauce, which tasted like an elite Frank's hot sauce, so yummy! I opted for the chicken fried steak covered in a deliciously, savory sage gravy. I was in heaven. It was served with grilled asparagus and red potatoes. The asparagus was out of this world. The only thing missing was a biscuit, which I am sure I could have ordered, but my eyes are usually much bigger than my stomach. The dish was absolutely amazing and so tasty. By this time the place was hopping and the line was out the door on this very chilly morning. Spencer was our waitperson and despite being busy, he stayed on top of our orders and made himself present on multiple occasions. As I mentioned above the menu at Phoebe's was extensive and I can't wait to go back and give others options. The food: I had the chicken and grits which had some decent heat on it. I enjoyed it but by the end was pushing through the hot maple syrup. I had a margarita that was ok but not that I would get again. I think I just ended up ordering something's that I didn't love but I am confident I would feel more satisfied during a second visit. After a bit of a wait, we 4 adults and 2 kids were seated in a booth. It's a noisy spot-- extremely busy. Our server was excellent, but there were a couple times we had to "flag" him down for more coffee and water. I'm guessing all the servers are stretched pretty thin. The eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, migas, and omelet were all delicious. We tried their "cheeky monkey," Phoebe's version of a scotch egg. I'd skip it next time. The other location has been on my to visit list, and a random search of brunch spots nearby brought my attention here. On a December Friday around lunch, our party of 5 had no trouble getting a table. Pancakes, eggs, fruit- everything the kids wanted to eat. For the adults, brisket burrito and a classic eggs Benedict, plus some goat cheese grits because why not? The burrito and eggs Benedict were ok, and I liked the grits but they were hair very heavy. Not my favorite brunch food, but I had an out of town guest who was really interested in trying a couple of different dishes. The service, however, was really great. It wasn't too early on a Saturday morning, but we were able to walk in and get a table prior to a brunch-time lunch. We shared their deep fried green tomatoes, which were crisp and the coating did not fall off when you cut into the tomato slices. They came with six slices and were very good. My son ordered and demolished his Bad Ass Bacon and Eggs. The eggs were fluffly and the bacon was thick. My daughter destroyed her waffles, they were the right combo of crispy and fluffy. I ordered the chile relleno, and it was pretty good. My order came with chopped potatoes, and I also ordered a side of bacon. It was a lot of good food. The chile is stuffed with cheese, and inside a deep fried panko cover. I would love to try their shrimp and grits (or other variants), they also looked good from where I was sitting. :). . Let me tell you, when this place gets busy, it gets busy. It was quiet when we got there, but sometime during our enjoying our food, it got really busy. Came back for beet hash, and I was not disappointed. The blend of flavors in the first bite sold me--and that was before I had a bite of the sunny-side up eggs. All of the dishes I've had here are a bit too much food for me for one meal (even if I ignore sides), but this one was close. I'm a little more full than I'd like but not stuffed. (^_^. ) It tastes a little different from the wrap--which I still like--and which was beyond unwieldy when I ate it there. (The contents did not fit.) I also finally tried the french toast. Solid. A HUGE cut of sourdough, and it came out real quick. I like that they have a few outdoor seats; so long as it's not too hot, that'd be my preference. The inside is diner. The staff are friendly and kind. Food is quick and consistent, and I never feel rushed--really important for me on a sit-in. Plenty of parking in the strip. It's really nice having a place offering a number of vegetarian options and traditional breakfast options in the neighborhood. I like to see them busy with business. We came across Phoebe's after looking for a brunch place on Yelp. It got great reviews and was only 6 minutes away from us so we gave it a shot. Like many yelpers have said, this place does not dissapoint! Service was great, friendly staff and the food is legit! We tried some pancakes with fresh fruit which were really good. Pancakes aren't those huge ones you see at some places.. they are properly sized and made well rather than huge and made wrong. We also tried a side of bacon which is slab style bacon and that too was good. The winner was the Migas which we all agreed took the best in show for today. Only took a star off because I never got a coffee refill.. childish I know but at breakfast it's sort of expected to get a refill of black coffee. We came on a Sunday morning before any big rush around 9:30. The two hosts seemed disheveled when we arrived and didn't really greet us as they were looking at the seating chart. I'll give them some leeway as this establishment opened recently. Once we were sat at a table, a server shortly after greeted us and took our beverage order. The restaurant is decorated like an upscale modern dinner. It echoes a lot off the walls of the restaurant, sometimes making people's voices loud and noisy. Per recommendation from the server I ordered the baked eggs and my partner ordered the Phoebe's Benedict. When the items came out they were a bit unexpected based off the description. My dish was two over-easy eggs in a creamy tomato sauce, mushrooms in a small cast iron, and the smallest piece of sourdough toast. Of course, my overzealous self tries to eat the item immediately and ends up burning the roof of my mouth. The dish was tasty but I don't feel that it was worth the extra $2 for another piece of sourdough toast. My partner's Benedict was the most peculiar benedict I've seen in some time. The biscuits were dense with the poached egg hiding underneath a large piece of ham topped off with hollandaise sauce with a hash brown casserole. I'm SO happy this location finally opened because Phoebe's Diner is a great breakfast/brunch/lunch spot with delicious menu items, good portion sizes, and reasonable prices without a ridiculously long wait (unlike some other brunch places in Austin)! My husband and I arrived around 12:45 pm on a Saturday afternoon and were seated right away with no wait and a choice between indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is beautiful but we chose outdoor seating because the weather was great... the only downside is that the seating is right by where cars are parking. FAST FACTS: * Parking - available in the lot in front of the building * Reservations - you can join the "waitlist" through Yelp * Online ordering available for pick up on their website * Pictures of all the menu items available on their website SERVICE - Rashon was great! He brought waters to the table right away and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. He was super upbeat and had a great personality! The food came out quickly... less than 10 minutes after ordering. PRICING - The total was $51.10 after tax and before tip for a drip coffee ($3.75), Phoebe's benedict ($14.99), migas with chorizo ($13.99 + $4 for chorizo), buttermilk flapjack short stack ($5.99), and a side of goat cheese grits ($4.50). You get a good portion of each item so I feel like the pricing was fair. My only complaint is that the online menu says it costs $2.50 to add chorizo to the migas but the menu you get at the restaurant lists it as $4. GOAT CHEESE GRITS (10/10) - These are a MUST ORDER if you're a grits fan! The flavor of the goat cheese is phenomenal and so different than typical grits you'd find. I love that you can order them as an a la carte side because I will get these every time I come! MIGAS WITH CHORIZO (9/10) - This dish surprised me and I loved it more than I thought I would! First of all, it comes with a side of red potatoes which are AMAZING! They're super crispy on the outside with the right amount of salt but soft and tender on the inside. The addition of the chorizo is what really made the migas shine... it has so much flavor and really elevated the dish (without the chorizo, I'd probably give it a 7). I'd order this again! PHOEBE'S BENEDICT (7/10) - I'm a huge fan of eggs benedict and this one was just okay. The portion size is large because you get two biscuits halves with a large piece of ham, over easy egg, and plenty of hollandaise on each plus a side of the hashbrown casserole. But, the biscuit texture and flavor just wasn't amazing and the ham itself was kind of dry. The hollandaise tasted pretty bland too... you didn't get that rich and tangy flavor that you would expect. But, I did enjoy the over easy eggs rather than a traditional poached egg because it helped cover the entire biscuit. The hashbrown casserole was good but the red potatoes that came with the migas were much better for a potato offering. I probably wouldn't order this one again but would be willing to try the pulled pork or brisket benedict! BUTTERMILK FLAPJACK SHORT STACK (9/10) - Super basic pancakes but they're done right! They're thick and fluffy with a little crisp on the outside. They were almost slightly underdone on the inside, but I actually love that in pancakes. You get a side of whipped butter and syrup but can also add strawberries, blueberries, or chocolate chips if you want. I'd order these again if I were in the mood for pancakes! Overall, I was super impressed with Phoebe's and will definitely return! I love their menu offerings and the large portion sizes and fantastic hospitality from the staff makes it a great experience from start to finish. Spent our Friday morning having a simple and yet elegant little breakfast nook, a stones throw outside the Domain. this place has ample parking and sets on the corner enough to allow outside seating areas. It's still hot out here in Austin, so we asked to be seated inside. The nice thing is that we could bring our pup with us since we had a stroller. Very excited to be here and be accepted as a dog owner. The guy at the reception was very cool and was happy that we could bring our dog with us. We don't get that very often so it was nice. Really good help with the staff. Food was delicious and was bigger than expected. Generous portions served. I recommend coming here in the middle of the week as The patronage was low.
