My first time here and it was for my big birthday dinner. We had a party of 19. My friend made a reservation well in advance. Our server was super friendly and the team was very attentive. Are drinks were always filled and the food came out in good time. I really want to thank the crew for making this birthday dinner fun and smooth. Everyone had a good time, had good drinks and great food and mostly lots of laughs. I really enjoyed the arepas, great flavor! And the barbacoa tacos. I will say that the chips are really good but the house salsa is served warm so that was not the usual type of salsa you get at a restaurant. I do recommend the chocolate avocado cake, It was surprisingly delicious! I can't wait to go again and try more food on the menu. Thank you again for a great birthday dinner experience!

(05/07) Came to this restaurant to celebrate my partner's graduating from UT Austin earlier that afternoon, and aesthetically this place was lovely! Everyone in our party of around 15 people ordered something different but I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas plate and my partner ordered the Pork Chop plate with a side of the rice. Their cilantro rice was just WOW! Unfortunately though, the rest of my enchiladas plate wasn't as spectacular.. the tortillas themselves were extremely hard and rough to chew on, making the entire experience just a jaw workout. My partner's pork chop was also overly charred, so all that they were tasting was burnt pieces of pork and not any of the actual meat. Everyone else's orders also came out pretty decent with nothing crazy to complain about, but if you are wanting to bring a party of more than like 8 people here, don't even think about it. They have a very inefficient system for water where they set a few pitchers/bottles across the table, and with any more than 8 people, those pitchers will run out every 10-15 minutes and you need to manually ask a waiter nearby to come and refill them or else it won't happen. Not the worst place I've been to but I probably would not come again unless they had some sort of happy hour special on their food.

We visited on Saturday to celebrate my friend's birthday with a group of 10, and it was a lovely spot for the occasion. It was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio, and while we didn't get the full indoor ambiance, everything inside looked gorgeous and had a great vibe. The patio overlooks the domain area. There's soon room to bring the vibe inside outside! The margarita flight was a big hit with the table, and the salsa was one of my favorites. It took a little time for the flights to come out, but once they arrived they were worth the wait. Service overall was excellent. Shoutout to Jessie for taking such great care of our group. I enjoyed the carne asada tacos, the rice was also unique and delish. It was a big table, so it was hard to get a full read on every dish, but everyone seemed happy with the overall experience and their meals. Nothing over the top, just a really enjoyable lunch with great service in a beautiful setting. I'd gladly come back and would love to see the restaurant lit up in the evening.

The tortilla soup was warm, rich, and full of flavor--perfectly seasoned broth with tender chicken, crispy tortilla strips, and just the right amount of spice. Every spoonful felt comforting and homemade. The chicken quesadillas were a hit--golden, crispy on the outside and loaded with juicy, well-seasoned chicken and melted cheese inside. Served hot and paired perfectly with sour cream and salsa, making each bite even better. We also order fresh toast sticks. The French toast sticks were to die for. My first time at Mexican Sugar love this place. The service was great. Our food came out nice and warm. Our server came to check on us brought us more water and more napkins. When we asked. It's really nice inside, and it's pretty on the outside. Reset outside to eat because the weather was warm. My daughter recommended this place. And I cannot wait to come back again.

The interior is really pretty, I love the design of it! I'm definitely behind on the food scene because I did not know Mexican Sugar replaced the Museum of Ice Cream, which I really loved. So the space is also reallyyy big. We didn't have a reservation and got seated immediately. It looks like a fancy place, but you can also wear casual clothes. You get complimentary chips to start but they add a lot of salt. It was so salty and we didn't get to eat too much of this. The taco plates we got come with rice and refried beans. Honestly, I think the sides were better than the tacos. The tacos were just ok-there are better taco places in Austin. Service is also really slow. We were seated but didn't have a server until 5-10 minutes later? Could definitely be more efficient.

There is still such a thing called Happy hour. Mexican Sugar House margaritas.

A lil late to the party. I've heard some mixed reviews but as of now my experience has been good. Happy hour still exist. The heated salsa is different, but good. The ambiance is on an romantic date type vibe, the decor relaxing and the location is right on point.

Met a couple of friends for lunch here last week and I was really looking forward it it as my first experience was at their grand opening which was fabulous! The food was delicious and they modified my cocktail to put less sugar/syrup. Everyone was friendly but it was so busy we had to flag our waitress down several times or ask someone else who would then tell us they'd let our waitress know. Other than the extended wait to order, get a to go box, or ask for our bill when we were ready everything was good. I hope that's just a sign of the word getting out and they are still sorting out their ideal server ratio with the big demand for their food! I also happened to randomly stop by there this week when I was in the Domain and a friend said she was there so we dropped in to join her table and have a post dinner drink. :-)

Mexican Sugar is a new mid-upscale restaurant at the Domain and already looks to be a hit where the food and whole doing experience was magnificent. The staff was so nice and easy to talk with. I forgot to make a reservation but was able to site outside in the patio. The place is dog friendly and next time may bring mine. There was a huge bar inside including lots of seating. Recommend to bring a lite jacket where it was a bit chilly inside. I ordered the Brasas Chicken tacos along with a Classico Margarita. Meanwhile chips and and salsa dipping sauce was placed on the table and both were really good. The chips were nice and crispy. The corn tacos contained grilled chicken and consisted of three. Lots of ingredients were in them and worked perfectly together. The sides were biack beans and cilantro-lime rice of which both had their own unique flavor. Basically it all tasted great.

The ambiance at this place is very classy upscale dining with a huge bar wall, I loved it! We had a big party for a birthday and the waitress did a good job, however, some drinks were delayed and some drinks and food were offered to us that belonged to another table. The food is TexMex, I had the angus steak and was very tender and delicious, the chef made his way into greeting our table and the birthday person, that gave it an extra touch of class. I'd come back here.

Mexican Sugar recently opened at the Domain replacing the Ice Cream Museum in Austin, TX (Century Oaks Terrace). The restaurant is modern, bold, and thoughtfully designed. Mexican Sugar embraces the concept of open space. When you walk in, you immediately notice vast space with sultry lighting, warm tones, and interesting décor (a convergence of southwestern, cowboy and modern chic) ...a lot to take in. At the entryway is a massive chandelier that looks like an upside-down metal cake. Thus, you are immediately captivated before even touching a morsel of food or drink. According to our server Emmanuel, they also have live mariachis on Thursday nights...an authentic Mexican touch (typical in San Antonio, TX). The food is sophisticated Mexican food with bold flavors and authentic flare. My friend and I ordered guacamole, and mesquite grilled chicken (she ordered the plate and I ordered the fajitas). She taught her food was too spicey, whereas I was totally enthralled with the flavors of my food. The guacamole was creamy, smooth, and flavorful. My fajitas were steaming hot with bold seasoning and enjoyable to eat. It is hard to tell the flavoring of the fajitas; however, I could taste some citrusy and herb notes. The tortillas, a standout, were homemade, soft and fresh...so delicious! Emmanuel, when serving our table, was pleasant and friendly. He appeared to have a large service area, and he came to our table very infrequently. In addition, there was a 30-minute wait period between the time we ordered and when our food was served. Mexican Sugar appears to be targeting upscale clientele. While the food was good, service was sub-optimal. I would consider returning and trying their happy hour.

We visited Mexican Sugar with another couple and had such a fun, memorable evening. We had a reservation and were seated right away in a large but cozy side room. The décor is beautiful and sets a really inviting tone from the moment you walk in. Service was a highlight all around. Every person we encountered had a warm smile and greeted us. They quickly brought us water along with chips and warm salsa. The salsa had great flavor, but I did find myself wishing for some heat. We lingered for a bit catching up before ordering and never once felt rushed. For drinks, we ordered a margarita flight and the Jefe, and both were a good. We started with sharing the quesadilla appetizer and wow, it was easily one of the best I've had. The meat was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. For our entrées, we ordered a mix of dishes. The ceviche was fresh and bright, the fried shrimp and elote tacos were lightly battered in masa and crisp, and both the enchiladas and chicken fajitas were good. Dessert did not disappoint! The flan was smooth and delicious, topped with chopped fruit and the cuatro leches cake, with its horchata and nuts twist, felt like a fun and creative take on a classic. The mariachi band brought such great energy to the night. I loved the variety in their set, especially the surprise of hearing some George Strait mixed in. To top it all off, the prices felt very reasonable for the overall experience. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the service, this is absolutely a spot we'll be coming back to.

I really enjoyed my first visit today! The place is beautifully decorated with indoor and outdoor seating. At first glance, it appears the waitstaff are still working through some kinks, but that's to be expected for a brand new spot! The chicken enchiladas were good and each enchilada comes with a different sauce on top (3 per plate with beans and rice). The frozen marg was pretty strong! I have no doubt that Mexican Sugar will be in my Domain restaurant rotation!

Solid and beautiful meal we had with coworkers for happy hour and dinner. I stopped by a little after the work day wrapped and they were very busy and packed inside and outside which was a good sign given their grand opening happened just a few days ago, the happy hour drinks and appetizers were a great option to get us going. The food and other drinks and water took some time to come through, but we'll give them grace as they work out their first week's learnings to get into their groove. The interior is such a beautiful space, and I would love to sit outside next time, and enjoy the abundant chips and salsa offered. Arepas and the queso flambeso tableside were fun, and my fish tacos were very well seasoned and tasty! Would happily return to indulge with a group of friends or an intimate date night with hubs! :) 4 stars because we had to follow up on drinks forgotten and our table went without water for quite some time but we were told the bar was slammed so understand the large volume of traffic for drinks and food

Drinks are expensive and served in what feels like miniature target brand, low-quality glasses, which makes the value proposition hard to justify the steep $14 price. The atmosphere is where it really falls apart. The space is set up like a bright, casual brunch hall rather than a cocktail bar--harsh, bright lighting, uncomfortable wooden chairs, and basic wooden square tables that don't align with the concept AT ALL. There's no food offering, yet the environment feels designed for daytime dining rather than an evening bar experience. From a design and hospitality standpoint, it's difficult to understand how this made it to opening in its current state. Even a VERY basic understanding of lighting and ambiance would suggest this setup is fundamentally mismatched--ESPECIALLY for something like a date night. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. And, at both breakfasts Amy made me feel especially welcome! The table came with a bottle of water for self-service, which I appreciated. The wine list was of good quality. My server at dinner was able to give me a solid recommendation for one to pair with my salmon. She was dead on with how well it complimented the fish. As for the salmon, it wasn't overly seasoned and was incredibly flaky. It was a good size as well. For breakfast, The Breakfast Plate's eggs were cooked perfectly with appropriately cooked bacon. I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. The granola with the berries were perfectly balanced, and the granola wasn't super chunky. Amy was 100% invested in my meal satisfaction. The dining room is quite pretty with lovely set tables. Every time I ate, I felt a tad underdressed! But they don't care if you're comfortably casual, and i saw a family with small children looking very relaxed and vacationy and they were welcome.

That's because we later realized that it was actually the Cambria Hotel's in-building restaurant. We also realized we didn't need reservations, since we and one other family were the only ones dining in for Sunday brunch. The woman who attended to us was very friendly and accommodating. I was able to get a flavorful cappuccino and eggs benedict made vegetarian friendly. The Hollandaise sauce was swapped out for queso, which was a fun twist! All-in-all, a great brunch was had by all. The food was not the best we'd ever had in regards to other brunch places, but knowing that crowds are not a problem here makes this a great back-up spot if the other brunch places in town are backed up!

Foxtail Austin has easily become one of my favorite spots in the city. The atmosphere is…read moreeffortlessly cool; intimate, stylish, and somehow both elevated and welcoming at the same time. Every visit feels intentional, from the music to the service to the cocktails. And speaking of cocktails: the Oaxacan Old Fashioned is phenomenal. Smooth, smoky, balanced, and one of the best versions I've had anywhere. It's the kind of drink you think about days later, and it's always my nightcap...or two A huge part of why I keep coming back is Alyssa behind the bar. She is exceptional -- attentive, incredibly knowledgeable, and genuinely warm in a way that makes the entire experience feel personal. You can tell she cares deeply about hospitality and craft, and it shows in every interaction. Austin has no shortage of cocktail bars, but Foxtail stands out because it feels like people here actually care about creating an experience, not just serving drinks. Highly recommend for date nights, catching up with friends, or just sitting at the bar and enjoying one of the best cocktails in town.

The space mixes art deco with a little bit of Spanish flair, tucked beside/adjacent to Mama Betty's. It's big, but arranged in a way that still feels cozy and social. The crowd? Late 20s to early 40s. Grown and attractive. Lively but not chaotic. Vibrant without being loud. Perfect for dressing up a little, socializing and lingering a little. We Ubered there, so I didn't get a full picture of the parking, but it seems like there may be a little parking garage or validated parking area? Maybe a pay for parking? I would read other reviews. Most of the staff? Fantastic. Professional, warm, funny. Our assigned waitress, however, gave off overwhelmed and low-energy. She was short with communication and it sort of dulled our sparkle for a moment, but the drinks and vibes quickly brought it back. Had we had another waitress, this place would have been a 10 out of 10. On to the drinks: Round one: espresso martinis (made with Tito's). Slightly sweet, bold, smooth, and very sippable. No coffee bean decorations on top, but full of flavor. No cream inside...sort of reminding you of a Black Russian. Served in a ribbed coupe glass. Round two: French 75s with Hendrick's. Punchy lemon flavor, a tad sweet, lower champagne notes but still giving French 75. Garnished with a dried lime slice instead of a lemon. Served elegant in those ribbed coupe glasses (which fit the aesthetic perfectly). The cocktails are well-crafted and intentional. They aren't overly boozy, but they are balanced, smooth and polished. Bathrooms? Immaculate. Unisex. Private stall rooms with their own individual doors. Efficient and modern. No long lines. Opportunity to mingle with the opposite sex in the bathroom if that suits your fancy. Foxtail feels like a good place to start a new chapter. We had good conversations and we enjoyed staying out just a little longer than we planned. Their Happy Hour (4:30-6pm weekdays) is officially on my radar for the future. I'll be back. I want this place to be routine. 9 out of 10.
