Easy to miss, yet difficult to forget, Pho VN is the best pho restaurant in Fresno in my opinion, they are so good they deserve to win the gold excellence award for the best pho restaurant in Fresno and Clovis metropolitan, I must say i am very critical of south east asian food because firstly Im south east asian and secondly Ive tried pho far and wide, so I'm pretty sure I know what Im talking about when it comes to pho, yet this place passed the test with flying colors and I just didnt' have anything bad to say. Whats even more surprising is the location, which happens to be north clovis, who knew this area would have an amazing asian restaurant. The impeccable service, inviting yet simple atmosphere, perfectly tasting food, reasonably priced dishes, perfect cleanliness and finally the quality of ingredients is the reason why 5 star rating for the first time is not enough in my opinion. If this was your first time order the #8 pho and the spring rolls. I came in on a late lunch on Wednesday and right away I was greeted with such a warm welcome from a male server. His mannerly and tactful personality made me feel welcomed right away at VN. The menu was extensive yet not too confusing, there was probably 10 -15 choices or pho soups varieties and they also have rice vermicelli, spiring rolls, and other dishes that could be paired with rice. I order the #8 pho - (flank steak and tendon) small sized for $6.50 and spring rolls $3.25. The menu I must add was very nicely put together with pictures of every item on the menu. The spring rolls came first, my tongue was so surprised with what I just tasted, I was caught in an unexpected outcome, the spring rolls had to be the very best one I've tasted so far. A very refreshing taste of vermicelli, lettuce and herb leaves wrapped in that rice paper. The shrimp meat was fresh tasting and was perfectly cooked and flavored, but the focal point of the spring rolls was the roasted pork, its lemongrass taste and some other vietnamese marinade was clearly creating a happy and glorious party in my mouth. I have not tasted a spiring rolls as good as that, I didn't even have to dip it into the peanut sauce, because it had so much flavor and depth. Although I must say the peanut sauce is by far the best I've tasted across all vietnamese restaurant and so maybe you would dip it cause its so good. Its genuinely homemade and had a pleasant taste of fresh roasted peanuts, was not too sweet either. The star of the meal is of course the pho. Its important for anyone to take a sip of the broth when it comes to the table, don't alter it, taste the broth, thats what I did and I was blown away. The broth was so flavorful, had an original taste that defines this place. The herbs and spices was not dominating the dish yet it gave such a delightful aroma and flavor with every sip. The tendon and the flank steak was so generously portioned in this small sized pho. It was endless of meat in it. The vegetable accompanying the dish was crisp and fresh. The noodles were also perfectly cooked, and tasted really good. Overall this has to be the best beef pho soup I have ever tasted. Pho VN has the best service among all asian restaurants, I would go as far to say even better than most americanized restaurant too. My server the asian guy was so friendly and welcoming, and had good server skills. Very polite, careful and also he anticipated without asking, water was always poured, and feedback was asked once I was done. This place even gives you a complimentary dessert of fried sweet wonton complimentary with the bill. The interior of the restaurant is simple, nothing to brag about, its definitely not tacky just not stylish, but most important it creates a comfortable and clean environment while dining. I've been back a couple of times to try their beef pho. The 1st time I came back, the broth was almost flavorless. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and considered it a fluke given how good the beef pho was the 1st time I ate here. Well, I came back a again and the beef pho was just as flavorless. So much so that hoisin, sriracha, hot oil, or fish sauce could come to the rescue. Unfortunately, I am not going to gamble another $10.00 on this place and have taken away a couple of stars as a result. Pho here is just decent. They give pretty small portions for $6-$7. The pho broth is not authentic and my rule of thumb is ... "If you can't smell the broth in the walls, this isn't an authentic Vietnamese pho restaurant." You definitely can't smell the broth in these walls and the overall quality of this pho is just OK. (I am pretty picky with my pho though...) If I were you I would skip all the pho places in clovis and go to pho paradise in fresno (my personal fav) or another pho place in fresno! Wow, is what comes to mind for this particular Pho shop. Easily the cleanest Pho shop I've ever been to in Fresno and one of the tastiest. The pho here has to be the cleanest tasting broth I've ever tried and I've tried plenty. You can taste the hardwork and dedication to their craft in the pho here. The only downside side is the price to meat ratio $7.25 is the small bowl price and for that price I would expect a little more meat but other then that it was great The spring rolls were also great here about average in taste I would say but the peanut sauce it came with was somthing special in it self the best I've tried as far as peanut dipping sauce goes. Organge chicken was about average in taste served family style you get plenty. The chow mein was a little different but in a good way also served family style it was super delicious. The #9 plate grilled beef over white rice was spectacular I might even say stole the show. I ordered this after finishing my pho and jeez it was amazing. The beef was charbroiled and cooked perfectly glazed with I would say a teriyaki type sauce it really melts in mouth. The downside to this amazing dish was also price to meat ratio for pushing $10 I expected a little more meat and less rice. Depending on where you live it's a little out the way but definitely worth it. Compared to most areas I usually eat pho at I actually felt safe getting out my car here. You pay a little more for the area your eating but the quality is definitely there. read more

The service is great. No waiting. Friendly staff and the place is clean. Pho is not greasy. Lots of noodles. I always get the #1 with my steak on the side. I like to dip it in the broth and eat it pretty rare. The only addition i would make to this hidden gem would be to add the Vietnamese sandwiches....but, its a pho place so who cares....its fresh, its cheap and its local. Go get some! read more

Came here with my boyfriend because I had heard good things about it. I ordered the rare steak pho and my bf got the special pho and egg rolls. The broth of my pho was average, nothing special. The meat itself was tough and the noodles were just off. To me it was just average pho. The only complaint that my bf had was that it was small for a "large." Our egg rolls were good, but just average as well. It was $4.99 for 3 tiny egg rolls..crazy! The service was fantastic. The waiter was very attentive and the restaurant is very clean. I have to second Matt's review here. My co worker and I like to call it no offense though, white people pho. If you've had good pho before this place will disappoint you. Spring rolls are good though. Hubby had the sizzling beef dish, rice is a side order. I'm not exactly sure why that is since its an Asian restaurant. I find that really strange. Well ok the beef was tender since I was picking off his plate since my beef flank and tendon pho didn't satisfy me at all... So skip the pho and go for the other dishes they have here. But then this is my first time here, not sure how other dishes add up. I won't be coming back though since its on the opposite side of where I live. Wasn't a fan of the pho. Broth didn't have any real flavor. I had to add a bunch of sauces to get it palatable. Size was pretty small for the price compared to other pho locations. Bf ordered the honey walnut shrimp. It was great, however, a VERY SMALL serving. He was still quite hungry after. I'll probably be back to give it another try (i don't like to write off a place until at least 2 visits) Hopefully others have commented on how small the portions are and maybe the owners get a clue and increase the size or possible dare i say, decrease the prices. read more

The only bad thing I had to say about this place was the milk/cream they used for the thai tea was sour, but as soon as I said anything the waiter was very quick to replace it and give me a new one. Have been going to this restaurant off And on for the past two years and other than our very first visit, the service has been lazy. What I mean is that they don't wait on you. Pretty much you have to flag down the waiter for everything. To take your order, you have to remind him to bring you your drinks that have been sitting on the counter for 10 minutes melting and the you have to flag them down to pay. And, when you order your food, be careful asking them to make sure your soup has vegetables in it because they'll charge you extra for something that's supposed to be in the VEGI PHO BUT if you ask them to make sure the vegetables are in the soup (because otherwise you get broth with a little bit of vegetables) they will charge you extra for it. First time I order here for takeout. I had the firecracker shrimp with rice. Well I had paid about 12 bucks. Small portions! I mean small skimpy. I was really surprised. This place is really nice. It's probably the cleanest pho place that I've ever been to. There is a really nice man that gives excellent customer service. He's awesome. The egg rolls, spring rolls are pretty good and so is their peanut sauce. The rare steak they use is good quality as are most of their ingredients. Pho VN has the most decent pho in this area. For those who have complained about the service, it seems to have gotten better lately. Their broth is good and the servers are very accommodating to requests. My only complaint? When they first opened, their spring rolls were really good. All I can say is Yum! I ordered the sizzlin' shrimp plate with a side of pan-fried noodles. The sauce was so flavorful and zesty. Lots of shrimp too! My husband got the beef pho #1 and he was definitely satisfied, although next time he is going to order extra beef. The Vietnamese iced tea was right on and I can't wait to go back and get the iced coffee. The pork spring rolls are needing a bit more pork, but they were nice and crunchy and cold. I rate it 3 out of 10. Service was good. I ordered 2 different dishes, the steak pho and the chicken pho. Portion size was ok. Lacked meat in both dishes. Very small amounts but I did get a lot of juice. The chicken dish was very bland even after I added all my fixings to it. Chicken was dry ! The steak soup was. Again, Lacked meat. But soup was good. Not too much to complain about that one. Over all I would not go back again due to portion size and just not really satisfied with the flavor. Remember this is just my opinion! I had the pho tai (rare beef) and I thought it was amazing. The broth was clear and had good flavor. No Hint of MSG that I could taste. The beef was perfectly sliced and also delicious. Wish there could have been more though. The side additions such as the cilantro, sprouts, Thai basil, lime and jalapeños were fresh. Perfectly priced at $8.50 for a large bowl. I hate to give this place a crappy review but I'm just being honest. So, I've been waiting to come here a few times before I review. Tonight was my 3rd time here. First 2 times were good, there was a really nice boy upfront helping and waiting on me. Extremely customer service oriented, made small talk, refilled my water whenever I needed it. Tonight I came in and he wasn't there. This is the first time I've been here since January so I'm not sure what happened to him or if he was off tonight. Anyway, the food was 0 stars tonight. With the tip, I spent $20 on a takeout order. I got the spring rolls and sizzling beef. The sauce was old for the spring rolls. It was really slimy/congealed in the middle and watery around the edges. This leads me to believe the sauce had been sitting in the container for a few days and was no longer good. I work in a restaurant and know that this is not good. The spring rolls rice paper was breaking. I think they were premade, which is fine I don't care, but I do care when I can tell that they are probably old. The sizzling beef and a strong aftertaste. Just funky. I'm not sure how else to describe it. The lady and I had a language barrier but she was pushing me to order 2 orders of spring rolls even tho it was just me and 3 come with each order. Kind of makes me really think they were old and they were trying to get rid of them by the end of the night. I ate one spring roll and just got too weirded out after trying the beef and that being nasty as well. I threw the whole entire order away when I got home. Bummer, I came here to treat myself.
