Pho 99 ended up being a really pleasant surprise. I was nearby getting my car washed at McKinley Hand Car Wash and had about 30-45 minutes to kill, so I decided to grab pho while I waited. Originally, I was planning to go to another pho spot nearby that I've been going to since high school, but as I walked past Pho 99, I looked inside and decided to give it a shot instead. I'm really glad I did. The restaurant was about 20% full when I arrived, so I was seated immediately. Service was prompt and friendly, and the food came out quickly. The pho itself was fantastic. Rich broth, good portions, and everything tasted fresh. They also had all the classic condiments and table setup you'd expect from a good traditional pho restaurant, including hoisin, sriracha, soy sauce, chili flakes, salt, pepper, chopsticks, spoons, and napkins already set out and ready to go. They also brought out the standard herb plate with bean sprouts, jalapeños, citrus, and fresh herbs, which is always appreciated. Drink selection was solid too. I ended up having a Tsingtao beer along with my pho. One funny thing was that when I sent a picture of the pho to my girlfriend and a few friends, multiple people immediately asked where I was because the bowl looked that good. Overall, I was genuinely impressed. Great service, excellent pho, easy location, and now I know I have a really solid pho spot within walking distance whenever I get my car washed nearby. Stopped by Pho 99 on McKinley and had a great experience. They have plenty of options without the menu feeling overwhelming, which I appreciate. I started with a drink called the Cream Sola. I had no idea what to expect, but the server recommended the pink one. It tasted like a milk-based bubblegum drink. Objectively good! Bubblegum just isn't my thing, but if you love that flavor, you should definitely try it. I ordered the #5 pho, and even though we all got small bowls, the portions were surprisingly large. Mine came with steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, and rice noodles -- this bowl alone was filling. It smelled amazing, and the broth was flavorful even on its own. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the meat was exactly how I ordered it (not too chewy), and the pricing felt reasonable. I was honestly stuffed after a small bowl. The food is warming physically and emotionally. I usually order the #12 XL as it is my personal favorite. Unfortunately, prices have skyrocketed over time, but I will still be paying to come back when work is an overload. There is the occasional language barrier, but I make sure I am clear when ordering resulting in me getting exactly what I've asked for. We came on a Saturday afternoon, and was seated right away. There is no AC, but they do have ceiling fans. Our server was kind, letting us know know where to sit so we can get the fan, and he was quite funny as well! We ordered the #1, Special Combo Pho and the egg rolls. The pho was good--savory broth, not sweet, noodles were soft, chewy, semi-sticky and had a nice texture to it. The meat was not that soft or tender, but overall, I am satisfied with this pho place. Eggrolls were delicious--packed with meat, noodles and some veggies. Definitely eat this with the sauce as well! Sauce is salty and savory, and goes well with the eggrolls. This has been our family's go-to for pho for 25 years. It's where my (19 y/o) daughter first remembers using chopsticks and first getting a boba drink -- before boba places were a "thing." So many good memories here and it hasn't changed a bit in 25 years. They do take cards now (for many years they were cash only) but there's no option to add a tip so if you use a card be sure you have a cash tip for the table. The menu is what you might expect -- a lot of pho options. I usually get a small number 11 (lean flank). It's very consistent and unless you are very big and very hungry, a size small is good for just about anyone. The pho comes with a plate of veggies to add to your soup (bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, lime wedges, plenty of basil) and the table is set up with sriracha, hoisin sauce and peanuts. We love the pho. The broth is very consistent and flavorful and the noodles are always great. The meat can be a bit hot or miss (last night it was almost all fat and very little meat, which is not what you expect from "lean flank" but I'm not getting the pho for the meat). My husband when he's not in a soup mood often gets the ginger chicken. Very flavorful and gingery with lots of chicken and onions. For a drink I often get the "soda lemonade" (made with limes) and it's very light, sweet, and refreshing. My daughter gets her old standby the green boba drink. We forget what it's called but there's a picture of it on the menu. It almost tastes like bubble gum flavor but not quite -- there's a fruity flavor in there too. Last night we also got an order of the egg rolls. Crispy and delicious and we love the sweet-spicy dipping sauce; but you've gotta let those things cool before you try to eat them. Still my favorite pho spot! It's not in the best area, however, so I kinda get iffy coming here. Parking has also gotten more difficult to find with some new restaurants opening up around here. I haven't been here in 4 years and the waitress still remembered me! Interestingly enough, the place hasn't changed at all. The food comes out quick, hot, delicious. Large chicken pho with extra chicken and shrimp spring rolls ordered with extra peanut sauce. The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Shortly later, I went in to get it. Workers are masked. Clean, safe and practiced. The order wasn't ready yet and it had been over 20 minutes. It was almost ready. I only waited a couple more minutes and the worker handed it over along with well wishes! Lunchtime! Order split. The chicken pho was no good! The pho broth was just water. No sprouts and no extra chicken included, like asked. Tiny litter pieces of chicken. Definitely needs more flavor, but it did include fresh jalapeños. That was good. The spring roll was pretty good, thankfully. Fresh and tasty. They included the extra peanut sauce asked for and it was good. Mother said hers was alright. She said instead of getting the large pho, like asked, it was definitely a small. She was disappointed there wasn't sprouts. We've never had pho without sprouts before. Just plain. Came to the restaurant at around 1pm ish. It was a packed house full of customers . I saw the review as a solid 4 star on Yelp. In my mind Im like this place is going to be good. It took me 20-25 min to receive my 1 bowl of pho that I ordered. It did seem busy so I'll give them that. I was not impressed by the broth at all. The texture of the noodles was something I didn't like. Maybe it was soft to my liking but I didn't like it too much. Although it wasn't a game changer. I did appreciate that they accommodate to my request for steak on the side. Kudos to them on that. Apparently most restaurants I asked will charge or doesn't support that request. Customer service was decent. Not bad. At the end when I went to pay there were a miscommunication. He was trying to bill me $28 for my 1 bowl of pho and a Thai Tea.
