Hands down, the best Banh Mi sandwich/caphe sua da(coffee) combo in Houston! The bread is nice and crisp, with just right about if yeast air to crunch ratio (French style) The 'everything (Thap Cam)' is my usual, but I want more meat filling, so it's only another $1 The ca phe sua da has just right amount of condensed milk and because it's from automatic expresso machine, comes out consistent and creamy, every time! I have this combo at least once weekly and also enjoy the com tam suon (broken rice) dish combo on the weekends. A pretty good local spot for some quality pho! Food: I only had the pho so I will speak on that. I had a vegetarian one and it was really good! The broth was very flavorful and the portion size was just enough to satisfy my hunger but not make me bloat or be too stuffed. The one thing I didn't really like with this dish was the very thin strips of fried tofu. It was more fried than actual tofu. There were tons of noodles and veggies in it though! Service: This I would say was the most lacking. It just seemed like no one was really aware of the customers and what their orders were. Despite the sign to wait to be seated, no one would come so you had to seat yourself. Then when seated, who knows when a server would come. My mom wanted a good bowl of Pho so I looked on yelp and saw this place was nearby with decent reviews. She ordered the pho and I ordered the vermicelli bowl and also the cold spring rolls. She really enjoyed her pho and I enjoyed the vermicelli bowl however, I did not care for the cold spring rolls or the peanut sauce that came with it. I would give that 3/5. I think I'll just stick to my go to spot in china town when it comes to Vietnamese food. Stopped by after work and left within minutes, the rice was passable so was the eggroll but that chicken....... Definitely NOT!!! I have tasted chargrilled chicken before but this was not it at all! It tasted old, and the chicken is all brown. When I told her I didn't like it she said she could only change out the chicken and even said she can't resell it now because I put sriracha in it. Pho Saigon has been my go-to pho spot since college! It's so spacious so we always get seated right away and their to-go orders are ready extremely fast. I love their pork Banh mi with a runny egg, spring rolls and the #18 pho. It's the perfect spot to go on a cold or rainy day (and a great hangover cure). They also have ridiculously good prices for how fantastic the food is. My only qualm is it seems their hours changed during the pandemic and they close fairly early now (at 8pm). read more

Thi place isn't bad at all. I lived across the street for two years and didn't visit until I was moving out. Since then I've visit this restaurant many times. It has that old school asian feel inside, nothing fancy at all. This is the perfect lunch spot for someone who works downtown. They're very inexpensive, quick and they're pretty good about not having too long of a wait. Okay so it's right on Milam between the McGowen stoplight and Elgin stop light in the Eastwest bank parking lot. The parking lot is very small but there is additional parking on the rooftop. When you enter, they are super quick to take your order. And the food comes within 5 minutes. The restrooms are individual. They're old but on the clean side for the most part. Could this restaurant use some updating? I suppose. But then they might have to go up on their very inexpensive prices. I'm definitely going back. Also I'm assuming they have a huge police officer discount, because there are always police offices here. read more

Food: This is one of the small number of Vietnamese places I go to inside the loop. I would say the pho is the winner here and you won't go wrong with that. Both the bun (dry rice noodle) dishes and com (rice dishes) use the same fish sauce base that is too light in fish sauce flavor for me. But if you can't drive all the way out to Bellaire to get your Viet food, you can trust to go here. Some times the grilled meat has a gas grilled flavor which is kind of off putting. OH and you know this place is good cause they give you a little bowl of soupy soup with your rice dish. Environment: spacious inside and you can seat yourself to find a place to tuck yourself in. I've also tried the tofu banh mi and the spring rolls and both were excellent. their vietnamese coffee is soooo good. prices are great as well. Plenty of parking in the parking lot + a garage attached to the complex. Lots of seating inside the restaurant. I had better pho elsewhere and tbh I think even Les Givrals pho is better and their pho is $6 while Pho Saigon is close to $10. I just don't think the premium I pay for at this place is worth it. I love how fast the service is, but the price could be better and the taste could be better. Decent pho, but unfortunately they could really do much better. Pros: portion sizes are good and it's a clean and spacious environment. Cons: the pho just wasn't as good as it could be. Bun Bo Hue was a total flop honestly - completely lacked the flavor. And the lack of fresh young coconut inside the coconut drink - a first - really brought things down the review to 3-stars. I get the sense that it's not that this restaurant can't make better pho, it's just that they don't do it. First time during this place in midtown. I live just a few streets away and many people recommend this place so I figure if give it a try. Before this, the only places I've had pho was in Chinatown, Pho Tran and Pho Sapa, both great places with a rich broth. There were a few things that made my first experience here disappointing. On Yelp, it states their opening hours are 8am daily and that they updated their store hours 3 months ago. I walk over and get there around 8:45 and I see they are just opening the window blinds. The worker said they don't open until 9, I asked if it was just on Saturday because their hours on Yelp and advertised on their door says they open at 8am. No response. ‍ They let me sit down inside and waited until 9am for the waitress to take my order. Every pho place I've been to, whenever I order the special Pho (dac biet) I ask for the tai to be put separate so I can dip in the soup myself and not have the meat overcook. She said they could not do it on the dac biet because there is very little tai meat in it. First time a pho restaurant has told me that living in Nola and Houston. I ordered the tai and gan, large. Even with a large, there was not a lot of meat provided. More disappointing was the soup broth. It was too sweet and not a rich broth, it was really clear like a chicken pho broth and there was probably too much sugar and MSG in it. It's a pretty large restaurant so that was nice. Our food, however, was....sigh. So we ordered a variety of dishes for a party of 7. Some pho, some Bo Kho (beef stew), a rice dish, sandwich...and it was all just okay. The pho broth wasn't very flavorful and the fatty brisket is more fat than meat. The pho noodles in my bowl were over cooked. The tendon was not as cooked but even worse in the beef stew. The tendon was so hard, it was not edible. The carrots in the beef stew were sliced thinly and it was hard. Definitely felt like they had just thrown the carrots in there. The meat was tender though, so I'm not really sure what happened there. And flavor was decent. Oh and we ordered spring rolls, but the rice paper was already hard on the edges. We got extra baguette bread to eat with the beef stew, and the center was still cold. Same for the banh mi sandwich that was ordered. Service was okay (if we're comparing to Bellaire, right?) except for the first guy to bring out food. He stood there with his hands on the back of our chairs like we needed to hurry up and finish our conversation before he would give us our food. Stopped here for a bowl of pho. The restaurant is cavernous, without much décor and a lot of tables. Service is speedy. I had the small beef pho even though the large was only $1 more. It was enough for lunch. The broth is as good as any other pho, the price is pretty good, and the meat is tender. The most important thing was that it came with a huge mound of fresh herbs, jalapenos and bean sprouts to dump in the bowl; I hat it when they're skimpy with that stuff. I've been in Houston for roughly two months now and Pho Saigon is undeniably one of the city's best affordable restaurants. My time in Houston is brief, I'll be heading back to Chicago soon - selfishly wishing that there was a Saigon that I could arrive to. This is my fifth day in a row eating Saigon. The photos I am including in this review are from my latest visit; the quality and make of the food is consistent. Every order as good as the last. I'm not entirely sure whose in the kitchen, but I hope god continues to bless their hands and affords them the opportunity to live a long, healthy life. Do yourselves a favor and please stop by. Found Pho Saigon on yelp with best reviews Someone was waiting at the door to seat me immediately, took my order and had the appetizer out in 1 minute, noodles out within 2. The efficiency is unbelievable The spring roll was great with the peanut sauce (a little sweeter than what I'm used to, likely higher oyster sauce, but still very good) The noodles were excellent, were not too dry nor too soggy. Affordable Vietnamese in the heart of Midtown? Say no more. On the very rare days Houston gets cold, this will likely be my spot for getting some delicious pho. After all, food comes out very quickly here. We ordered a bowl of pho dac biet and bun thit nuong cha gio. Our dishes were out very quickly, allowing us to dig in fast. The broth here isn't very salty, but I do have to say it pales in comparison to other noodle shops. It's not very dark and lacks the depth I think could come from roasting bones or an extra 30 minutes in the pot. The meat and green onion-to-onion ratio was great, however. I'm always chuffed by brisket that isn't already overcooked by the time it arrives at my table. They've got all the right herbs to go with your pho, but you're left with just a measly quarter of a lime wedge for the broth. As an avid citrus consumer, I'd ask for more next time. My significant other thought the vermicelli was great. The egg rolls were crunchy and spiced with what tasted like a healthy dose of five spice. Don't have much else to say about it though, as he destroyed the bowl faster than I could snatch a few more bites. Houston pho is hard to beat, and Pho Saigon is hard to beat. The service is fast, the menu is thorough, and pretty much everything is delicious. We tried the pork egg rolls (a must), a roast pork bahn mi (you can skip - too bready), and the beef pho. The pho comes in 2 sizes unless you order a special combo. I had the small (it's big) with brisket, beef balls, and eye round. The flavor of the broth was really delicious. It wasn't totally clear- which I like, because it actually had a rich and clean flavor. There were lots of raw scallion, cilantro, and a good serving of meat. The noodles were probably my favorite of any pho. I'm super picky about having a nice chewy noodle, and far too often the vermicelli are wayy to0 soft. What are we fighting Pho? This place might know. My girl said this place was pretty decent and she had been here before on a few occasions. Yelp said it was amazing. So between Yelp and my girl, I gave it a try. Extremely disappointing! I actually can't believe that people think this place is excellent. There's no accounting for taste. Most of the customers aren't Asian, so that might be a sign of something. Over in Chinatown, Nguyen Ngo has 90% Asian customers (estimate) and it's exquisite. So there you go. I'm not the biggest fan of Vietnamese food anyway although I do love the sandwiches. However this is one of the least impressive incarnations of it that I've had. Not everything was awful. Some of the service was okay. The prices are amazing. So I definitely can't give it less than three stars. But overall there was nothing here I would ever want to come back for. read more

Pho Saigon has withstood the test of time and remains amazing. I absolutely love their Pho Khong Thit (with chicken broth) -- it is so good, and I crave it all the time. Always a solid place for pho. It's not as cheap as other places, perhaps, but its solid, reliable, and hugely popular here in Houston. They're fast, efficient. They're always busy but because the place is so big and everyone is so quick, I don't think I've ever actually had to wait for a table.
