I had been curious about the pho here, so I decided to try it for the first time! The atmosphere was calm and nice. The pho came out quickly and was delicious! The service was average.

It was my first time here after a round of golf and I was surprised how good everything was. We were expecting more for a Vietnamese menu but I think Chinese food items outnumbered Vietnamese items. Honestly, I could care less because everything we ordered was really good. There's also no bahn mi on the menu so you can count that out. The XLB, Xiao long bao, the steamed soup dumplings we surprisingly good. The wrapper was thin but still held everything together. None of the XLB's popped while grabbing them. My taste buds enjoyed the soup, but absolutely loved the dipping sauce. The chicken wings, really crunchy, the thin layer of breading made the wings fluffy and added volume. Lots of flavor, not overly salted. Top tier wings in my opinion. I ordered the Beef Brisket Noodles, I'm no expert but this dish felt like a mix between a few different cultures. Nonetheless, this dish was so good. The thick udon noodles really complimented the thick pieces of brisket. The brisket was really tender. The soup needed a little more salt in my opinion, but you can always add that in yourself. The onions, carrots and green onions and cilantro added a refreshing crunch. Overall, awesome dish. Maybe it's just me, but I poured the remaining XLB dipping sauce into my soup and it made it so much better. If I didn't have to cross a bridge to get here, I would definitely see myself here more often. Awesome food, friendly staff. Highly recommend giving this place a try. Definitely a new spot when I'm in the area.

We came to Pho Le expecting a Vietnamese restaurant, but it may be possible they had a change of ownership as they also do a lot of Chinese dishes now. With that in mind, we ordered a Beef Chow Fun and a Teo Chew Noodle Soup Beef Chow Fun 4/5: I was quite impressed with this. The chow fun came out quite fragrant with lots of beef and quite a large portion size. The flavor is quite on point. It was a little oily and could use a little more frying, but otherwise it was better than expected Teo Chew Noodles 4/5: Also quite good, a strong garlic and a little more buttery flavor. My benchmark is TK Noodle Teo Chew Noodles and this is pretty close

Pretty misleading restaurant name - although they do serve pho, this is mainly a Chinese restaurant with dishes ranging from dumplings, Cantonese stir fry, Szechuan spicy dishes, and so on. You won't walk in and immediately be hit with that strong aroma of pho broth. We ordered: (8) Soup Dumplings ($10.95) - These came in a very small bamboo basket where many of them were touching and stuck together. The skin was on the thicker side, but still managed to tear apart since the dumplings were not spaced out. There wasn't too much broth inside, and the flavor could've been stronger in my opinion. (6) Pork Pot Stickers ($11) - These met expectations; nothing really to comment on. (6) French Butter Chicken Wings ($13.95) - Fried very nicely and came very hot and fresh. I like this type of fried texture in particular! Not sure where the "French" part comes from. Do they use French imported butter? But anyways, this was a tad too salty. With less salt, these would be perfect. Special Combo Beef Noodle Soup ($15.95) - This was their pho. It definitely didn't have the heavily MSG loaded flavors you'd get at traditional Vietnamese restaurants and was on the lighter side. Noodles were overcooked and soft, but the meat portion was quite generous to make up for it. Overall, I'd say this is a solid spot to hit up because there's something for everyone in the very extensive menu. Most things aren't perfect, but it's pretty alright for an average Chinese meal with reasonable prices.

I really liked the Singaporean noodles I ordered. I'd come again to eat those. Yet I was quite shocked that phở (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) was actually hard to find on the menu considering that the business advertises itself as a phở restaurant. More accurate external signage signifying the restaurant's predominantly Chinese menu would be far less confusing to the walk-up customer hoping for multiple varieties of phở. I am removing one star due to the confusion of this experience, since I walked in hoping for multiple varieties of phở. For those more interested in Vietnamese cuisine, I'd highly recommend that you visit Phosho Dough (1235 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94706) on the same side of San Pablo, very close to Pho Le, but opposite the Gilman intersection. The food and customer service were both excellent there.

Came here on a Saturday night as we were craving Vietnamese pho and it hit the spot. We ordered their House special pork & Napa cabbage dumplings, Teochow noodle soup (w/ egg noodles), beef stew noodle soup, Rare thin sliced beef steak pho and Rare thin sliced beef w/ beef balls. Customer service was really great. One less star for the dim light. Would have been nicer if the lighting was brighter. Just my own opinion tho.

I was really happy with Pho Le. The curb appeal didn't give me high expectations, and the service was a little slow on a Wednesday, but the pho was excellent! And the inside was decently nice as well. Really enjoyed the smooth and tasty broth and perfectly textured rice noodles. Our table had the thin rare steak and well done brisket, chicken, and beef stew pho soups. All excellent! Wanted to try something besides noodles and the chicken and Napa cabbage dumplings were a great compliment to the meal. They could use a little salt though.

This restaurant seems to have gone under a ownership change since the new menus have a different name. The place looks identical. The Service was still prompt and nice but the food taste different. I still ordered a beef brisket pho. I'm not sure I was completely satisfied, but I will try them one more time.

Never again!!! Incredibly this place was busy but honestly the food was awful. Me and my girlfriend tried the Pho and it was bland, we also had the salt and pepper chicken wings that were also horrible they were bland and the batter was super thick. We decided to have the soup dumplings those weren't so bad but definitely have had better ones. It's safe to say we won't be returning there ever again.

I joined a colleague for lunch here after searching on Yelp for middle place to meet between Oakland and Richmond. The reviews were decent so there we were. So, the menu is a mixture of everything Asian from Pho to Thai soups, to " American " Chinese dishes. Now, one of my favorite appetizers is crispy shrimp rolls. You know the shrimp is simply rolled in a wrapper, deep fried, and served with chili sauce. So, I ordered them, Crispy Shrimp Roll, Spicy Thai Shrimp soup, Pong-Pong fish, and my colleague added Beef Pho. So, the shrimp rolls came out first and I immediately noticed they weren't made like I normally have had them. There were no shrimp tails hanging out of a wrapper. These were cones and after inspection and taste, it was clear that these were made of chopped shrimp and some filling. I mean, after the first one, the second one I picked up was void of shrimp. Next, Thai Spicy shrimp soup, the flavor was good, a nice spice, and of course I added more chili oil( because I like my nose running while eating lol). I didn't understand the baby corn in the soup but I didn't complain as it was a vegetable. 1 star for the soup. Now, Pong-Ping is sweet! Sweet fish-ok. I could get over that but I didn't think the fish was going to be that thick breaded deep fried fish( brought in bulk) and soaked in that sweet sauce. Not my cup of tea at all! The restaurant is clean. The customer service was good. And, metered parking, is easy on the street. The location is easy to find - right on Gilman and San Pablo.

It's always such a good feeling to go to a nondescript restaurant and feel so comforted. Not sure what they do, but the food made me feel so loved like a big warm hug. The veggie noodle soup was well flavored and packed full of veggies. The fresh thick noodles were deeeeliciously silky and smooth. I also loved their dumplings! They were very clearly hand wrapped, and their wrappers were just the right amount of chewiness without being too thick. It was like my Goldilocks dumpling!

Pho connoisseur here, I search high and low for bowls of one of my favorite dishes and this is best I've had in a while. Broth was piping hot and complex in flavor. Finished the whole bowl which never happens and am already craving more. Service was excellent! Can't wait to go back and try the ho fun with my soup. read more

This is my new favorite spot for pho and Chinese takeout cravings!! I've seen this spot many times as I live close by so I thought I'd give it a try one day when I was craving pho and man I'm so happy I did! Their pho was sooo good - the broth was incredible I think possibly the best pho ga broth I've ever tasted. Very flavorful and the chicken was really lean and yummy. Came back the next week to try their lunch special and now I'm hooked!! I tried their ping pong chicken wings with fried rice and Kung pao prawns with chowmein for the lunch specials and both were amazing. I don't know how they get their chicken so crispy but it's addicting and both lunch specials were huge - enough to make at least two meals. Also one of the cheapest lunch specials I've had so definitely will be coming here more often. Thank you!! read more

Definitely my favorite pho place in the area. I am usually a little hesitant when it comes to restaurants with mixed cuisines like this, but Pho Le is fantastic! Both the Vietnamese and Chinese food are fantastic. The #33 pho is great, dumplings are really good as well, and the dipping sauce it comes with is sweet and tangy. I'm excited to come back for sure. read more

Yelp did not lead me wrong! The Pho Ga (chicken) was so yummy. Sometimes the chicken pho can be less flavorful, but not here. Walking home I could smell the fragrant broth and it tasted twice as good. The real home run was the home made dumplings and potstickers. I love the slightly doughier bite that you get when they are homemade. So much so that I stopped in here two days in a row! Carb overload, but they were so good I couldn't resist. Also, I agree with the reviewer who commented on their chili oil. There is a second flavor profile beyond chili that makes theirs different. When I was leaving the young guy at the register was greeting another family who apparently did the back to back visits like me. This place is really that good! read more

Great new Pho place in the Northeast Bay, something we've been badly needing. Really fresh ingredients, noodles had a nice chew to them, meat was fresh, so were the veggies. Staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean. Definitely will be back. read more

We always get the chicken pho and fried rice with Thai tea and it NEVER disappoints! This might be the best Thai tea I have ever had. This place definitely feels more Chinese than Vietnamese in what they offer. As friendly as the staff and clientele were, I wasn't a huge fan of this place and hopefully it'll change with some time since I know they opened recently. They have a good wide selection of noodle soups but the broth of the pho I had was weak which isn't a great sign for such a Vietnamese staple, especially when the word is in the name of your restaurant. They also didn't provide enough fresh herbs and bean sprouts to accompany it. Everything else they offer seems like standard American-Chinese fare except for their salads (which based on the ingredients seem Vietnamese but they label as Thai) and their rice plates (which I didn't get to try so I can't say). In addition to that, their iced coffee was weak and not served with the usual filter press which is also another Vietnamese staple. And slightly less relevant but if I'm being really picky, their soup spoons are a ridiculous size which makes them unappealing to eat with. All in all, as a fusion place, it would be fine to order take-out from, but I would not come here expecting good solid Viet food. read more

I really enjoy this place. It's comfort food - especially the beef stew. They're friendly, the place is cozy, and the food is always tasty. I've tried every restaurant that have "lived" in this location. This is my favorite and I hope they are around for a long time. Currently there's a COVID related shut down, but I have done take-out. They were very careful to do no-contact and wore gloves and masks. I hope people continue to give them business even though they're closed for eat-in. read more

The soup broths were so flavorful! The beef broth in my pho was rich and the chicken broth in the hu tieu combination soup was very flavorful. I usually find chicken broth a from restaurants bland, but Pho Le did a masterful job with their soup stocks. If you like the option of wide rice noodles in your pho, this place has it! Both the wide and regular rice noodles are very good. They also give a good serving of meat/seafood in each pho. The food deserves a 5 star but I knocked my overall rating down to a 4 because they seem 1 person to short as the restaurant was full and had a constant flow, so they could not keep up with bussing tables and seating people right away or bringing drinks in a timely manner. read more

It is hard to find a decent pho place around El Cerrito/Albany area. We gave this place a shot -- excellent. Broth was delicious. I ordered the traditional combo pho. They used all fresh and quality ingredients. How could I tell? They didnt use those cheap fish balls. The shrimp were de-veined and fresh. Tofu and fish cake were tasty and flavorful. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

It feels like all the other pho places are closed during COVID shelter in place except for this one. Good thing they are pretty good! We ordered the pho (combo) I forget which one, but the broth is pretty good and the service was excellent! I'm glad they were open when I was really craving pho. Will definitely go back! read more

Will definitely return. Went for takeout and had #126 Prawn with Mixed Vegetables and #77 Mongolian Beef. Both were great. Generous portions. I love nearby and didn't know what to expect given location and fact that space has changed over a lot. But good is great, kind management, and very clean and inviting inside. read more

It's ok. Asked for no bean sprouts. Spring rolls had bean sprouts. More importantly, the chicken broth was not very developed, which is what pho is all about. On the other hand, I only tried the chicken. Maybe the beef is better. The veggies are fresh and pretty. The wide noodles were broken up and seemed over-cooked. There are better pho places. read more

This restaurant has been my go- to for their lunch menus, dumplings and won ton soup. I don't know what happened today, but the wonton soup was awful. The broth had no flavor and contained snippets of green onions. This was a takeout order, so the broth and other contents were packaged separately. The other container held the won tons and one piece of bok choy- one. It was a poor excuse for soup. I hope the restaurant returns to its former quality and that today was just an aberration. I hope that I won't have to go elsewhere. read more

What a great find! Had no problems finding parking along San Pablo. I ordered a vegetarian pho, which was filled with huge chunks of fresh veggies. My husband ordered pork dumplings and a flank steak with noodles dish -- both were excellent. Great place for people watching too. read more

Not as good as I'd hoped. Had pork dumplings which were just ok and a bit bland. And the seafood chow fun was very greasy and even had the oil taste - Only a few pieces of shrimp and squid and fake crab. Not impressed at all and wonder how they got the high ratings. Also the waitress was trying to rush us when ordering. read more

Great noodles. Good vegetarian option with a yummy vegetable broth pho with generous greens. They had all the standard pho fixings plus the smokey chili you only see at some authentic places. (Just something I really appreciate because I love spice). They have a large menu with Chinese dishes too and I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

This is the first time I wrote any review on yelp. I don't like to give bad review to any restaurant even if it really worth one star. The reason I'm writing this review is because this restaurant is rated 4 and half star which makes me feel that this information is deceiving and misleading, while I'm trying my best to correct it. The pho is far from authentic. The soup is super bland, it is certainly not made out of beef broth, but even if it's powered broth I can't even taste the beef flavor. The noodle is boulder wait too long that even i ordered wide noodle it still broken into piece in my bowl. I can't even pick it up with chopstick. Oh btw they didn't give you chopstick in the first place. The funny thing is that yeah I had bad pho before but last time the noodle broken level happens to me is in the cafeteria in Berkeley. The way they cook the chicken wings that's recommended on the menu is the typical Chinese takeout way. They don't even marinated it. Just simply deep fry and put on some super sweet sauce. Maybe that's how orange chicken is invented. My mom also asked for the hot water and they didn't bring it to the end. We decided to not to give them tips because we didn't get any service the whole time anyway. And when we left they went to to ask for tips from my mom. Also it is far from authentic. I know the people who open this restaurant are Chinese not Vietnamese but it really doesn't matter who you are, please try a little harder. read more

Got the number 33 pho noodles with beef. Specifically got this order since it didn't have meatballs in the order but includes tendon. I love tendon but when I got the order, had no tendon, had small amount of tripe and a noticable amount of meatball. Pretty depressing but flavor was good. Ordered the crispy fried salt and pepper pork, didn't have salt and pepper and mostly bones. read more

I think they are a little confused with their identity. Dumplings too much dough. Pho is not clean tasting. Learn how to make pho before you call yourself pho anything. And when someone asks you if you use msg, chicken essense is still MSG!!! Be proud of msg, it's lovely in the right amount. read more

I tried this place for takeout yesterday with my daughter. We got the pho with beef balls and rice noodles as well as the house made dumplings with pork and vegetables. Both were delicious and we're really looking forward to going back and trying some other things on the menu. read more

The dipping sauce and green onions were provided on the side, though I do wish they included thinly sliced cucumber to complete the experience. My husband also ordered the fish, which turned out soft, delicate, and delicious. It was a nice complement to the duck and rounded out the meal really well. My only real critique of Great China is the pricing. You're definitely paying a premium here, but the food does taste authentic and well-executed. Given the limited competition in the area, I can see why it feels justifiable if you live nearby. Exotic as they may seem to have been and widespread Nationally which is partly due to the Chinese building the railroads cross country. Chicago Cafe (Woodland, CA): Founded in 1903, academic research suggests this spot near Sacramento is the oldest continuously operating Chinese restaurant in the U.S. and California. These days I prefer Vietnamese or Thai all day long because the flavors are better and more variety and cleaner with respect to how the dishes are prepared. Well, I stumbled into this spot today and I was rather blown away. Large portions, low prices, excellent variety and top notch service. And a huge portion for only $13.95. (I guess the bakers got too enthusiastic with the water bath.) The crumb was tight but came off more as dry than chewy. And the malt syrup was poured with a liberal hand -- there is no subtlety to the flavor. To their credit, the cream cheese is well paired. It brings its own flavor with a noticeable tang, and it is dense. You need a bagel that will hold up under the pressure of a knife while spreading the thick schmear. I love that Saul's is making bagels in house now, but I think I will look elsewhere on their menu for the real comfort foods.

Came here to try the pho, it passes my standard! The broth was flavorful and not too salty or fishy. Didn't need any extra flavors besides basil and jalapeño slices. Noodles were standard. I got the well done brisket but I swear it was more like a tripe/tendon they added. I wasn't a fan of the meat they gave me, but that didn't ruin the meal, next time I'd try a different meat.
