    House special large
    Tom L.

Good reliable spot for your pho fix in east Chinatown. I'm a house special kinda guy so that's what I always get. They are not stingy with their variety of meats and the broth is always comforting. The vermicelli is pretty good. The meats are flavourful and the fish sauce ties everything together. The spring rolls are a bit too fried for my taste but I still get them. They're also opened later than other places in the area so it's convenient for a late meal.

I used to come here all the time when I lived downtown and it was still names Xe Lua (Train). This is my first time back (take-out) due to the pandemic and it is not the same. I also think they changed management as well. I ordered the Grilled Chicken w/ rice which was good but not as good as the previous owners made it. The Chicken used to be packed full of flavour and extremely juicy, but alas, this is no longer the case. Also ordered the Wonton Soup. This was good but again not as good as it used to be. I'm still looking for a Vietnamese restaurant comparable to the previous Xe Lua at this location, but still haven't found one that does an amazing Grilled Chicken, Wonton Soup and Pho.

My really sad looking tom yum goong soup :(

I got the tom yum goong...and it was so sad looking. A few pieces of broccoli, carrot halves, and two pieces of chicken. (See picture). It was hot and sour, but didn't taste like tom yum. Would be giving this place a 2 just for the soup. But my friend got the pho and his rating for the pho is 3.5. Another friend got the bun with shrimp and chicken and his rating for it is 3. He also got the fresh roll with avocado and shrimp and would give that a 2. That being said, all I tried was the soup! But rounding up to 3 because their other dishes probably tasted better, and their bean sprouts and basil leaves looked fresh.

The 101 pho with everything in it

This place is just an average pho place. The pho is pretty average, a bit on the saltier side. However I got this large bowl for only $9! So the price is definitely good for all that food. I also had their iced lemonade for $2.50 and it was pretty refreshing, but mostly ice. Nothing really stood out to me, I probably won't be back

The pho here is pretty good. You get the option of thick and thin noodles. The thin noodles are the typical ones served in other places. The thicker noodles are same as the thin noodles except around 3x as thick. I personally like the thin ones. The pho special was delicious. The meat toppings were amazing, and the beansprout and basil that came with it was very clean and fresh. The reason for 3 stars is that the other dishes were not as good. The shrimp in the fresh rolls were either over boiled or not the freshest, and it would've been better with more fresh veggies and less rice noodles. The shrimp paste with sugar cane was decent, the sugar cane was very tough. The overall experience was okay, there were only one server working at a time, even when it got busy so service was a little slow. Pretty clean overall.

3.5 Star Wandering around this part of town looking for food after some drinks.... Every restaurants looked empty and closed...until the nice people at Pho House waved at us and signalled us to come in! We ordered a 101 Medium and Large.. and I don't think I would ever order a Large as the portion is huge. The broth was flavoured and savoury, really hit the spot on a cold winter night. The spring roll was crispy and delicious! Love the rice paper wrapping! Even after their closing time, we never felt rushed or like some of other restaurants I been to when they started mopping the floor hinting that we should leave. I definitely be back to Pho House next time when I am in the area!

Shrimp Wonton Dumpling Soup and Shrimp/Avocado Rolls

Came here on a whim because I was in the area with a friend! She was craving Pho and I was down for what they had to offer. I scanned the menu to see what I could eat (Pho joints are usually a little tricky because most is not all of their broths are beef/chicken/pork things I don't eat!) I saw they had a shrimp dumping soup and they assured me the filling was solely shrimp and scallions so I ordered the dish. To my surprise, it was filling and very delicious! So delicious I would like to come back again to have the dish and share the restaurant with friends. The dumping wasn't too thick and the filling complimented the soup. *Also tried the fresh shrimp and avocado rolls, it was delicious with the sweet hoisin sauce! Aesthetic wise it was a cute family owned restaurant, clean but nothing extravagant. My friend who had beef pho also enjoyed her meal.

10/10 we ordered take out and it was amazing, highly recommend the fried spring rolls!

Lots of items to choose from, and the staff are happy to accommodate your requests.

This is their new spot, across the street from their old space. Great family run restaurant and they've been here for over a decade. Always get here early if you want the fresh noodles, as they do run out. Friendly service and they are truly appreciative for your patronage, which is rare in Toronto's restaurant scene now a-days.

I like this better than a nearby place, they take debit. The food is good, big menu of items. BBQ chicken rolls very good! Excellent rare beef, the white chicken in soup not so good.

This place in East Chinatown is formerly known as Pho 88. I came here with sarah l. during our series of non-sexual dates[1] and I am declaring Pho House my front-runner for Pho-bruary in Toronto.[2] The Pho-ndamentals Pho Tai Gan (rare beef and beef tendon); large = $6.50 Broth: so far, my favorite broth in the (416); rich and hearty with fatty pools of delicious oil and nicely spiced Beef: thicker, more flavorful slices of beef Tendon: thick slices but they are not as tender as at Pho Pasteur Noodles: dried, i.e., not fresh noodles but steeped just right in the tasty broth but they did need some swishing around to separate the clumps Garnishes: the mung bean sprouts and basil were fresh; they did not include saw leaf but brought it out upon request (I think sarah l. diminished my Asian cred!) Service: Friendly and efficient; the waitresses wear hairnets so no hair in your soup, Neil T! The good-looking dude (probably the owner's son) speaks perfect English and is ever so easy on the eyes...swoon... Other: They were actually playing decent music on our visit and the fresh iced lemonade ($2.00) was tart and refreshing. Almost perfect but I'm deducting points for the sub-par tendon and lack of fresh noodles. 4 and 1/4 stars =================== [1] Eat your heart out Tara G! [2] Vietnam Noodle Star in Scarborough is still #1 for the GTA. http://www.yelp.ca/biz/vietnam-noodle-star-scarborough#hrid:wuV_36P87_FzlMQO3wefig I'm not sure why the address is coming up weird but it's located at 610 Gerrard St. East (just east of Broadview)

Delicious bowl of bun bo hue!
    Angie L.

Bun bo hue was delicious. The meats used were so tender (and I don't usually enjoy the meats used in pho). Spring rolls were tasty too! Hubby didn't love his grilled beef with rice dish hence the 4 stars, but I'd be willing to come back!

Minced Shrimp on Sugar Cane with Spring Roll on Vermicelli. This is only $8!!! So tasty and fresh!
    Ben M.

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was 3 years old. Back then it used to be under the "88" chain. This is my favourite restaurant in the world. Their minced shrimp on sugar cane with spring roll and vermicelli is my favourite. Everyone who works there is incredibly nice and are always welcoming. I moved to the west end about a year ago but still make the trek every now and then due to serious cravings. Love this place!!

They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to.
