We love going to Pho 5-0. They're so friendly and it's amazing how they remember us and what we usually order. (We may go once a month or less) They even remember how we like certain things prepared. Today they even asked if we wanted the BBQ pork roll, which we forgot to order. We think they have the best tasting pho broth. It's not oily, it's flavorful. The broth is piping hot so the beef and the veggies doesn't make it cold. We did takeout once and the broth was still quite hot. They put up partitions and it matches the original decor. I have tried plenty of pho places so far. But honestly I hope it was just a bad day because it wasn't that great to me..... I smelled the broth and it kinda smelt spoiled. I added spice and tasted the noodles and it was kinda hard too. I'm not sure if it was just the noodles but it didn't have any pho taste. Even with the chilis sad to say! The owner was extremely friendly and efficient in serving 5 tables simultaneously. She was hustling! The servings were generous and tasty. None of the plates disappointed. This is our go to pho place. We used to come here pretty much every week. The parking lot is fixed now and there are way more parking stalls available, so it's pretty easy to find parking. I feel like weekdays are more crowded than the weekends here. Which is opposite from most places but it's a perfect place to go if u want to go somewhere without standing in line on a Friday night or weekend. They have the BEST sata sauce. If you come here, you need to try. You will get hooked! The broth is pretty light. Not oily or salty it's perfect! I love the #20 which is beef steak and tendon pho. It's been awhile since I've been here & I had my weekly pho crave so I decided on Pho 5-0. First of all, the parking lot at this shopping center is being redone so parking is BAD, it took me almost 15 minutes just to park not mention it was during the lunch rush so that was an issue as well. I'm thinking that this is a family run business, very nice and attentive waitress today. It's a small restaurant with maybe about 10 tables max, modern & clean. I ordered my "normal" - spring rolls & pho with beef & brisket. Spring rolls are "ok" - I had much better but it passes. The pho is decent sized portion, soup is "ok", veggies looked fresh and clean. Overall, Pho 5-0 is "okay" - I will prolly come back again if I'm in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to go either... The parking is reasonable but it can get crowded during the lunch and dinner rush. Food/Drinks: I LOVE the food here! I'm never disappointed. My absolute favorite dish here is the papaya salad. I don't know what they do to the papaya salad but it is the best papaya salad I've ever ate. The other items that I usually order from here are the spring rolls, summer rolls, steak and meatball pho and the Vietnamese iced coffee. I like that they don't overload my coffee with ice. They recently started serving bubble drinks (boba) and banh mi. I've yet to try the banh mi but I'm definitely coming back soon to try it. Price: The prices are comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants around O'ahu. My family of 3 usually spends less than $35 for everything above including tip. Seating Area: There are 9 tables that seat 4 people on each table. (3 tables do connect to each other in the middle of the restaurants.) The turnaround for this restaurant is fast. If you have to wait, your wait time would be less than 10 minutes. Service: The service is awesome! I never had an issue with my order being wrong, food is made quick and the workers always have a smile on their face. The soup was on the clear side which I liked. I can tell the pho was nicely arranged and meats were in small piece. And it was good. I could smell someone else's BBQ plate. My family and I walked in and I guess it was fairly slow since there were tables open. The server was really friendly and gave us enough time to decide what we wanted to eat. We got the Chicken udon for my picky 7 year old, shrimp and crispy summer roll vermicelli, and the special plate. Our food came out in a timely manner and honestly I was expecting our food to come in small portions, but they were actually pretty big compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. This place had good reviews, and they did not disappoint. The first thing that struck me was the service. The lady was very polite and greeted me as I came in the door. She also called me "sir" which was a pleasant surprise. I had the combination pho. The broth was excellent and not too watery, but full of flavor. The flavor was perfectly savory that it kinda made me wish I was hungover so it could rejuvenate me. The tendon was perfectly cooked (not too soft and not too hard, but still had good chew). Our first time getting pho in aiea! We didn't know where was good so my bf and I looked at yelp and we ended up here! Inside seemed clean and service was friendly. We got a shrimp summer roll to share, and both got a medium pho with beef and meatballs. We also got a fresh lemonade (which was obviously homemade and it was refreshing!) Such a cute pho place, that's what caught my attention when my family and I first entered the restaurant. It is also very clean. Didn't take long to get seated. The server is very nice. While ordering our food she made a great suggestion for my little sibling who wanted something spicy but decided not to give it because it would be too spicy for her. She recommended the chicken katsu. Probably one of the great suggestions we got from her because it is one of the best chicken katsu I have ever tasted. very small establishment but very bright anf clean. service was quick and fairly attentive. had the combo #1, which includes choice of a large sized pho, choice of spring (egg) or summer roll, and a soda. the typical veggie condiments were included and they have a fairly good amount of it. the one thing missing that some other pho eateries have is sawtooth coriander. chose pho #20 (with top round and tendon). large portion was HUGE. there was so much noodles it could be shared between 2 people. there was also a lot of tendon. noodles are the thinner sizes ones instead of the usual slightly wider ones. broth was okay, could've used a tad more seasoning or spices. it was also served warm instead of hot which would've helped cooked the veggies, which in turn would temper the broth. the summer roll...was okay. they used regular iceberg lettuce, instead of romaine which I prefer. their prices are reasonable for the amount they give, especially the large sized pho. Not sure why people eat here. I'm Vietnamese so I know my pho. I normally don't give bad reviews unless it's been more than once with crappy service or food. The pho here is too salty, so I said I'll try something else next time. Second visit: So I ordered the Bun Bo Hue & there was barely any flavor & the veggies they give you with it aren't correct. The basic veggies that go with Bun Bo Hue is red cabbage, regular cabbage & bean sprouts. (Super basic, right?) well I asked her where the veggies were & there was a misunderstanding with the server because her English wasn't that great, so she brought up the owner... The owner comes out & pretty much says "what do you want?!" And I explained to her oh I'm Vietnamese and usually we eat it this way, then she lightens up her tone because she realizes that I know the correct veggies that go with the dish and she says "oh yeah we don't serve those vegetables here, we give the same one as the pho bowls." So I said ok and ate it. Didn't finish it because it didn't taste very good... Third visit: I ordered a basic banh mi with bbq pork. The bread was super hard, like it was frozen & stale prior. They don't serve it with the right veggies either, no jalapeño pepper in it (at least the one I had). I ordered a coffee as well and it tasted like burnt coffee. I love Vientamese coffee and normally enjoy it at all the places I go. Fourth and final visit: I was craving a banh mi & they were the only place that opened late... I ordered the same sandwich this time & asked if they could add in the jalapeño. They said ok... I paid... I wanted to check (petty or not, idc) to see if they added jalapeño... nope! So I asked them nicely about the jalapeño & the older Vietnamese guy (not sure if he's the other owner's husband or not) and he huff and puffs about it & rolls his eyes. Grabs some jalapeños and tosses it in a plastic wrap and throws it in my bag. Bread was hard af again. Lol... jokes on me! Not sure about you but if your food sucks then maybe you should have better customer service. I love pho. Pho is like a good friend who is always there to help me get over a hangover, a cold, or even just a bad day. When I need pho close to home this is where I go. The place looks neat and clean and the workers are nice enough. The broth is basic but I like that. I can decide to add lemon, etc to make it perfect for me. I really like the noodles in the pho. The noodles here do not get soggy no matter how long I take to eat my pho. I order the beef pho and it's consistently good. I get my meat on the side that way I can inspect for freshness (small kine sniff test-lol). The meat always passed my examination. The sprouts and basil also pass my freshness inspection. Another item I order here is the beef stew pho. It is VERY hearty and surprisingly tasty!! My hubby who is a pho hater can be convinced to eat at Pho Five-0 if I bribe him with this. read more

After losing my favorite pho place... I was on the hunt for a replacement "go to" spot. I tried Pho Five-O and I was pleasantly surprised. A small restaurant located in the Waimalu Shopping Center. This place gets busy at night and parking can be tough sometimes with all the other establishments. It takes a while sometimes but at some point you'll find a spot. We've dined it and done take out for home (and take out for work). The restaurant is clean and the A/C is cold! They bring water right away. The staff is very nice and the lady owner is super sweet and so friendly (I wonder if she ever has a bad day because she's always smiling and so nice)... The menu is pretty large and they have appetizers (spring rolls, summer rolls, etc).. pho (small, large, different meats, etc)... fried rice, other plate lunches, other noodles, there's a lot! They also have bubble drinks as well (the place down the strip mall makes em) and the thai tea is very good here. I usually get the spring rolls (DELICIOUS) and the beef ball pho. The broth is light in color but it has good flavor. The veggies are generous. The honey dew bubble drink is very good. My husband has tried the fried rice and all he said was it's 'different' but that he likes it. The BBQ chicken summer rolls are pretty good too. Strengths: Big portions, the large goes for $9 and you will be full! Generous portions of beef and veggies in a mega big bowl. The beef is sliced thin and good quality no tough or fatty pieces, veggies are fresh. Pho comes out in a decent time and is steaming hot. If you like broth with a heavy beef flavor, you would like it. The restaurant is nice and clean. On the other hand... Weaknesses: No finesse when it comes to the broth, it's the beef flavor and that's it. No much subtle flavor such as cinnamon, star anise, or hints of other spices. It's a bit too much MSG used, as I was thirsty the rest of the day. I'm surprised their complete meal includes summer/spring roll and drink, but the drink is just a soda. Other places the drink is tea/coffee. Bottom line: I like it for the big portions, above avg broth (I like heavy beef flavor), and it's good deal for your money. read more

This place is in the Waimalu shopping center. Its not a very large place but very clean. It is defintely reasonably priced. The pho has good flavor. Its not too heavy but has a light flavor. The only bad thing is the portion of meat given is small, whether its just beef or beef balls... The spring rolls and summer rolls are pretty good. They have combos you can get with a pho, spring or summer roll and soft drink. The workers are very friendly and your order is ready pretty fast. I have not ever had a problem with my order being wrong or waiting too long. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for awhile and always see the same workers and have not had any problems or gripes. There are not a lot of pho places on this side, most of the goods ones are in town. Or so I thought until I came here. On a rainy day, this is where you will find us. Well...not only on a rainy day... On a side note... about the parking.
