I come to Pho Best over the other two pho joints in the area whenever I want a bowl of pho that has a lot of meat and/or a bowl of pho with grilled pork chop on the side. The broth doesn't have as much depth as I would like, however the quantity of meat makes up for it--great meat to pho ratio. The spring rolls are definitely on the smaller side and the flavor can get lost if you wrap it with too much lettuce. However, the flavor is definitely there (use less lettuce that you normally would) and the crunch of these spring rolls are second to none (although they are a tad bit more oily). The service during the meal was great as well. The food came out quickly and the staff is very attentive--they refilled our tea ~6x on their own. The only strange part is that the staff member took a look at the tip amount I put down and asked me to change it the amount that was suggested on the receipt. I always calculate 18% of the subtotal on my own and then add it to the final amount. However the restaurant's tip calculation is based off the amount after the tax and after the credit card usage fee, which does not make sense to me. However, their service was very nice so I didn't have a problem making that change, but it was still a bit strange nonetheless. I was a little disappointed to see that they dismantled their outdoor seating but for some reason they kept part of the facade up to make an additional wait area that looks very shabby to be honest. But that's fine.. outdoor dining is starting to be less of a thing. I ordered the #1 large phô that had the rare beef, tendon, tripe, and brisket. The portion was adequate but the broth was not hot enough in my opinion. It was maybe a step or two above warm and this was during busy Saturday night dinner time. As a result, my rare beef actually barely got any more cooked. My friend got the #2 which is the same but smaller bowl and her broth was also not hot. The beef was also a bit fatty, but it wasn't bad. The noodles were good and did not have an overcooked consistency, probably because the broth was not hot. That said, it wasn't a great experience. For both of us, they gave us a small plate of bean sprouts and just two small branches of leaves. I've never seen a phô place give so little for two persons! They also did not have any jalapenos but I notice some other places don't have them either. Overall it was serviceable. I also had the crispy pork rolls as an appetizer... 4 rolls and they only gave us 3 leaves............. We had to split one of the leaves. This has become my go-to place for viet food in Elmhurst and Pho Best does it well with a splash of pizzazz. Portions are huge, or at least they seem like it when it's served like this, and I almost always have to get the leftovers for takeout. They do not skimp on the meat and the lemongrass grilled chicken is one of my favorites to order time and time again. Everything is seasoned very well and the flavors of the sauce pairs excellently with the cold noodles. Pro tip: make your own dip with equal parts hoisin sauce and sriracha and it makes everything taste even better ;). Be ready to drink a lot of water, though; I've noticed that I'm always a lot more thirsty after a meal here than anywhere else. Just know in advance that you're not coming here for 5-star service and don't take the brusque attitudes to heart. When I last went, the waiter mistakenly brought us two milk teas when we only ordered one, which isn't a huge deal but it was a bit annoying to see that we were charged for both when it wasn't offered to be taken back nor comped. My friend and I were craving Vietnamese food and this hit the spot. We've never gone here in person, but have always got takeout. The place is relatively big with lots of tables. Both were delicious and the portions were large. I would recommend the bbq pork if you're looking for leaner meat and the pork chop if you wanted a little more fat (both meats were seasoned the same). The spring rolls in the rice vermicelli caught me by surprise because I was expecting them to be the meat ones that were double deep fried (appetizer style), but this one had more of a light "birds nest" crusting with less meat inside. I spotted this restaurant during its grand opening. I had a sneak peak at its impressive interior decors and made a mental note (as it was too new to be bookmarked) to try it out some day. Well I finally got my chance 2 months later. It was 1 pm on a Saturday. The restaurant was at "equilibrium" -- all but one table was open and we were immediately seated. The waitress was eager to take our orders but I was too busy taking pictures. I mean, I've been to dozens of Vietnamese restaurants but this is one of the few that really got my attention with its decors. While waiting for our food, I checked-in to Yelp and saw the 2-star rating! I couldn't believe my eyes and had to double-check the address and the map to verify I was looking at the right listing. What on earth?! Wow, 83 reviews in 2 months! That sounds more like analytics for Google than Yelp. Pho Best has to really have screwed up in my absence or there has to be a "choreographed smearing campaign" against the establishment! After all, one would think if this is the third location from Pho Best, all operations should have been streamlined by now. All I can say is I was spared from any of the reported mishaps and short falls. Maybe I have the nay sayers to thank? The menu items were competitively priced. I haven't seen $8.25 pho noodle soup in a long while. And the size of the bowl and the amount of protein served were eye popping. We ordered B1 No 1 Pho Noodle Soup. D1 Filet Mignon & Shrimp Rice Vermicelli. D3 Spring Rolls & Grilled Beef Rice Vermicelli. The taste was all on par and the serving size was generous. The only negative was the broth wasn't hot enough temperature-wise. Noodles and soups were served on wooden trays and trivets. They are going extra mile to elevate the presentation and experiences. Everyone also received a complimentary pudding dessert at the end of the meal. I certainly appreciate that. Service was great. We didn't need any help for the dishes we wanted, but we saw the wait staff patiently explaining to the tables next to us. Now it's a bit of a suspect that most staff could converse in Chinese, or perhaps it's good customer service based on demographic? Regardless, it was a solid 4.5 experience for me. We were so excited to see that this restaurant was finally going to open and made sure to plan a visit on their opening day. Luckily, we came early and were seated quickly. I thought the overall décor was cute and kitschy with all the bamboo and wood accents. We ordered the Vietnamese Crispy Spring Roll appetizer, Filet Mignon Cubes over Rice, Pho with Ribeye and Beef Stew and a side order of bone marrow. And as part of their grand opening, they were offering the patrons a free order of the Crispy Shrimp Spring Roll with any single order of $8 or more. The Crispy Shrimp Rolls were very good. Not too oily and had a nice curry flavor. The Filet Mignon cubes over rice was wonderful. The meat was tender, juicy and tasty. I would say the portion wasn't as large as the other two locations, but I didn't mind too much. The spring rolls were okay. They had a nice crunchy texture and stood up well when wrapped and dipped in the sauce. My main gripe with this dish was that the rolls were extremely small. I have never had Vietnamese Spring Rolls this small. Luckily, the bowl of Pho was huge! I like the way they present it on a wooden tray. I thought the broth was great and quite flavorful. I also liked the noodles in this dish and wished they put more. Unfortunately, they served me the wrong Pho dish and I did not realize this until after I was already eating. I suspect they gave me the Pho with brisket and tendon instead of what I ordered. And as for the bone marrow, we had to ask three times for it. By the time they delivered it to our table we were done eating. There were quite a few opening day mishaps that I'm hoping they fix. As I was eating my big hearty bowl of soup, I could really feel the lack of air conditioning inside the restaurant. And by the time I was done eating, I was really sweating. And it feels spacious inside the restaurant except that the tables were butted right next to each other. I had to stand up a couple of times from my seat to let others around me pass through. It's quite evident that they were unprepared for the large amount of people on their opening day. They probably could have used two or three or five more wait staff to help with orders. I know some reviewers complained of food getting to their table slow, but I don't think this was due to the kitchen. I think it was most likely due to the front of house staff getting overwhelmed by the number of patrons that day. Their food is good enough that it does warrant a return visit. Finally! After Pho Bang left us high and dry, Elmhurst was in desperation for a good pho (Pho Bac sucks! Thai Son is okay)! The husband and I came on opening night and it was quick for table for two's but long waits for larger groups. Decor was bright and I love the bamboo theme here, it's cute. My husband and I shared the Three Treasures Over Rice and the big bowl #1 Pho. My hubby's go-to dish at any restaurant besides pho is the Three Treasures Over Rice which has the crab meat egg omelette, shredded pork, and grilled pork. He dares to say that it is better than Pho Bang. I tried it and he's right. I thought the shredded pork was really tasty and my favorite of the three items. #1 Pho took a while to come but it was certainly worth the wait. This was a huge bowl! Pho Best III is like dating your amazing ex-girl friend's pretty sister. She probably looks similar, has similar mannerisms, but it feels like something is terribly off. The space is big and ceiling is high, service is very good and fast, didn't have to wait very long for the order to arrive and they brought the check before I finished the meal. Saw this restaurant and decided to stop in - without reading any reviews. Ocassionally we like to surprise ourselves this way for an unbiased experience. We were greeted immediately and seated. That is all. It's not what you'll expect. It looks perfectly fried but when you eat it, there's barely any filling! Mostly fried, crunchy skin. Pork chop over rice - could be better. Pork chop wasn't as char-grilled as other places. Nor did it have that nice semi-sweet glaze on top. Cold noodles with beef and spring roll - this was okay. Not sure if there was a peanut butter sauce in here but it definitely tasted like it. Liked that it comes with a little bit of salad. I didn't like the beef because of this thing they put in the middle of the rolled up beef. I thought it was fat, hubby thinks it's a vegetable like cucumber but I don't know. Didn't feel right. One of my worst pho experience ever. The broth literally taste like the instant pho packages you can buy in supermarket. It's bland, and I am pretty sure they didn't add any fish sauce to the broth. Furthermore, they made me wait twenty minutes for my pho because they were short staffed, and you can tell my raw beef pho was just sitting in the kitchen the entire time because the beef was super overcooked and dried up when it got to my table. It was when they first opened, pre-COVID - I felt the broth was alright, their pho was nothing special to me, until I tried their pork chops. They have the best pork chops! The big bowl was nice but their broth can be more flavorful and hotter or served in thicker bowls to retain the heat. The staff are friendly enough to not ask why or give you any resistance when you Ask for two bowls to share the pho or even jalapeño slices or cilantro ( their cilantro comes minced with some red onion slivers). I would not recommend the Logan or plum juice. The plum juice was salty and sweet but kind of funky tasting. I'm not sure how the reviews are so low. My experience here has been nothing short of amazing. It's not easy for a restaurant to earn 5 stars in my eyes, but this place earned it's stripes. I judge my rating on 3 criteria: food, environment and staff. Let's start with the staff. The staff were amazing. Extremely attentive and we're quick to seat us at the door. They were quick to get our orders, even if you needed more time, they didn't leave you unattended for long. They remembered to come back. Water came out quick shortly after ordering and the food followed. They were very polite about bringing the food over. I have nothing short but compliments and appraisals to give to the staff. The environment was very clean. It's also on a corner of the block. It's hard to miss it. Exterior was clean and had a modern furnishing. The interior is where I was surprised. It was above and beyond my expectations. I thought I was eating at a really fancy vietnamese restaurant. It felt criminal that the prices for an experience like this was this low. It's akin to being at an upscale restaurant. Decor had a nice theme to it. Made you feel like you were in Asia or something. Tables were clean, and well maintained. Like the staff, nothing short of compliments for how the place is kept up. The food was beyond my expectation. I grew up eating pho and asian cuisines, I would like to think I have a good sense of what a good pho tastes like. You'll get that here. I ordered crispy spring rolls and a bowl of pho. Food came out at a moderately fast rate. These spring rolls were stuffed with vegetables and I believe taro. I can't remember the exact filling, but it was so good. These little cigars were packed with flavor and had a complex texture to them, unlike your typical spring rolls. You wrap that bad boy in a leaf of lettuce, and dip it in fish sauce . Amazing. Couldn't stop eating it. Next we move onto the pho. Sometimes pho places would give you options for bowl sizes. Some people can't finish, some people want more, etc etc. This place unfortunately does not have a bowl size, but it's not that big a deal. If you plan on getting pho here and have a small to medium appetite, you better make sure that's the only thing you're eating. You could even split this into a 2 person meal if you wanted to. This bowl is massive. I don't think chopsticks can go across the diameter of the rim. The broth was amazing. I almost teared up since it was my first time having pho since the covid pandemic broke out. The flavor was rich and complex, but it didn't feel heavy either. Great noodle, to soup, to meat amount. When I asked for the check after my meal, she handed me the bill and asked how would I like to pay the tip. I ordered the filet mignon and shrimp vermicelli, and noticed the temperature was oddly lukewarm. I'd read online that vermicelli can be eaten cold, so that assured me a bit. A few hours later, however, all that food was hurled towards the exits in an hour long bathroom episode. Also their "softshell crab" spring roll was nothing more than fried skin parts with absolutely no meat or substance. I'm always looking for a good PHO spot but this place is one that I'd love to PHOget about! First of all, they were very rude and inattentive. I had to track down the waitress on more than one occasion. Then, I ordered the crispy shrimp rolls -- DISGUSTING! I ate one bite and left the other three rolls on the table. I used to come here often for the pho but the quality had definitely gone down. The broth itself is fine but the noodles were soggy and mushy. The meat was also so dry. When it came time to pay, we tipped 15% but the lady came back and said that wasn't enough and demanded at least 18%. She wouldn't leave until we gave more. Came here for quick bite. Service is not the nicest in this pho best location as we found a bug in the lettuce leaves served with spring roll and when we asked for new lettuce, the man they dismissed us and tried charging us more. read more
