Bonus points for having its own parking lot and happy bouncy music playing outside near the entrance. I ordered the Pho Chay and it was filled with lots of bok choy, broccoli, and green onion. Love the variety of greens! It also had carrots and tofu. It comes with the usual bean sprouts and basil to add yourself. When I ordered it, the waitress asked me if I would like the veggie broth. I liked that she did that! I also like that there's a vegetarian section of the menu. As far as flavors go, it's not the best pho I've had but it's also not the worst. Came here with my coworkers for lunch. This is more like 3.5 stars but I'll round up. We each ordered their lunch special combo #1 that came with one rare steak pho bowl, free iced tea (or u can get soda with no refill) and 1 shrimp/beef spring roll for only $7.50. Talk about one steel deal. It didn't finish there, they also give you this Vietnamese dessert mixed with coconut after your meal. So I'm a 626 native, and the options for dining at any Asian restaurant is plentiful. My rating is lenient considering the location. There's not that many Vietnamese places here. This place is just OK. Is this the best Pho I've ever had? NO. Is it the worst Pho I've ever had? NO. Being that I am Vietnamese I can say that this place is sort of Americanized.... I even come in ask questions and order in vietnamese and they answer me back in English...TSK TSK AMERICANIZED! The Pho here lacks the authentic flavor as well as authentic smells that I'm used to when confronted with the traditional uses of fish sauce, star anise, ginger, etc. And for that they lost a few stars. This place has acceptable Vietnamese food since it is the only option that is available in Long Beach. The prices are reasonable but the quality is only so so. As a viet person myself, I would rather travel 20 mins to OC in Westminster for better authentic Vietnamese food if I have the time. For convenience, I would come here. I'm giving this place 1 star because when I walked in it smelled like bleach and I didn't feel safe eating there. The service to say the least was terrible. Since it was slow and there were only 3 other tables being used, you'd think they'd more attentive (spoilers: they weren't). Once my boyfriend and I finally got the menu, the server asked if we were ready lol. We just barely got the menu so of course we weren't ready, not to mention we first received napkins then had to wait 15 minutes for the menu. I got Pho (P01) with everything inside and the broth was okay, it wasn't as rich as other places and the egg rolls were really cold as if it's been sitting out for a while or they just used old ones. I also got the Taro boba which had a powdery texture like it wasn't mixed thoroughly. Once we got all of our items that we ordered, the server gave us the check before we were done eating as if he wanted us to leave already . The lady at the front desk could care less as she just tossed straws at us. It was awful and I ended up tossing it because it was hard to drink, 98% powder: 2% tapioca pearls . Ever since they reopened for dine in a few months ago I've been coming about once a week. The broth WAS good and it's close to home. I also order here from postmates. But after my experience this week I will no longer be dining here or ordering on postmates. The women with the glasses who I believe is the owner is rude and not friendly. We come in and she looks miserable all the time. I asked for 3 waters with no lemon. When the waters come they all had lemon. So I asked her for 1 without. My husband and I can deal with the lemon in our water but my son has sensitive taste buds and will not drink the water with lemon. She than told me to just pick the lemon out! The WORST part about my soup was the tofu!! It was DISGUSTING and tasted like it may have been days old! It was rubbery and so firm. When I brought this to the waitress attention she apologized and took it back. A few minutes later another kitchen staff member brought out a small bowl with a few pieces of (supposedly fresh tofu), however it too was rubbery and hard, I ended up not eating any of the tofu at all. I ate about half of my pho and was over it. I will NEVER return to this filthy hole in the wall (literally) spot again! Interesting experience today.. Today I learned that this restaurant charges you a fee to pick up and take out your food. This is the first time I've ever heard of this charge. The staff seemed friendly and happy. The chicken in my take out was cold and dry by the time I got home. Chicken is to dry to eat. For our first outing together, she brought flowers of the exact color and variety I was going to pick up that very morning but turned down! Pho American, conveniently located in a not-so-pretty part of the LBC, is a clean, new and revamped Vietnamese-owned and operated restaurant offering authentic Viet cuisine. I cannot compete with Sophia's thorough review but I'll simply add that the food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and totally unique in flavor. The Pho Tai was rare and melted in the mouth. The curry was not near spicy enough for me but the location demands a more mellow taste for the average diner here in the LBC. The restaurant itself is large, clean, well lit, hung with beautiful artful representations of rural Vietnam and the restrooms well-maintained and smelling fresh as a daisy, though decorated with orchids. The private parking lot was also well lit and security cameras, if working, give an extra sense of security for night visitors. Between the two of us, we shared the pho, curry, dessert (wasn't too keen on the green stuff), tea and the price came out to a whopping $15.16. Now that's a steal of a meal deal, for real. Sophia is a smart, saucy and determined lady who managed to get through all my electronic countermeasures with enough sass and aplomb that I know we're going to be seeing a lot more of her on Yelp and we'll all benefit from that. Just remember, she's clairvoyant and knows what you like. The dinner menu, as Sophia alludes to, requires some cryptologic capabilities to comprehend and it's a good thing It's got pictures...I'd starve were I drunk without 'em. I hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and my cardigan. Welcome to the land of fame, excess, Whoa! Am I gonna fit in? Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time. Opps! Wrong song... Anyway, when I pulled into the parking lot I slipped into the last free space; man this place was packed already a few minutes past noon. I went straight to work and turned with a jerk. Oh, wait. No, that is a different story and the wrong month! I order combo #1, white meat chicken pho and two egg rolls and orange soda on the rocks. Before I could even dispose of a few work emails on my trusty iPad, my lunch was before me. The eggs rolls were good; your standard egg role fare. The pho looked delicious and it was truly enjoyable...
