    Spicy beef noodle soup
    Richie C.

This family owned Vietnamese restaurant is a real gem. We loved the spicy combination fried rice, spicy beef noodle soup, and the combination noodles with veggies. She shared the bone used to make the beef pho, demonstrating its authenticity. The owner is so nice, and happy to answer any questions.

This is my favorite venue for beef pho soup, fried tofu, and salt and pepper shrimp. I have tried to get the same tastes and textures at other pho venues, but they just don't satisfy my taste buds the same. I have never been able to find the fried tofu as crispy and addictive!!! The onions and jalapeño peppers with the fried shrimp and fried tofu are also so smokey and cravable !!!

New owner, new deco, fresh and new menu with a variety fo traditional authentic vietnamese dishes. I dined there with a bunch of friends, we all loved our food as well as the atmosphese and the owner's warm welcome. Thanks Pho 89 (now and will be Pho Thai Binh in the near future) for giving us another choice for "where to go for eating out" and for being there when the mood for authentic Vietnamese food kicks in. We'll definitely come back for more.

This was my fault for not thoroughly checking the reviews ahead of time.. It was 4pm and I haven't eaten and day and so I decided to stop here. As a Vietnamese native, please take my word for this. This place is NOT authentic. I should have known when I walked in and none of the employees were Vietnamese. Smh. I got the summer rolls and pork rice plate. Both were.... meh. The summer roll was rolled loosely and didn't have any pork (as listed on their menu). It wasn't awful. I enjoyed this over my main dish. 5.5/10 The rice is not broken (as listed on their menu), pork chop was dry and broccoli....? Not typical of Vietnamese rice plates. The broccoli was good though lol. What threw me off is there was no fish sauce. I asked for some and whatever they gave me was not the kind you eat rice plates with. I was hungry so I ate it anyway. 4/10 If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food, DO NOT go here. If you have sensitive taste buds or need bland food, then give it a try. The staff was friendly and sorta attentive. 7/10 Parking out front. 8/10 Overall cleanliness. 7/10

I wanted to try a new Pho spot and ventured to Laurel to try Pho 89. First off, they serve Vietnamese and Chinese food and I believe it's run by the latter so I was a little concerned about the authenticity of the Pho. I ordered beef pho (chin and nam) which I had to repeat several times because the waitress didn't know what chin and nam was. Apparently you are supposed to order by letter and number and that option wasn't there. The Pho was just ok. The broth wasn't as flavorful as my usual spot and some of the meat was over cooked. The basil leaves were also not very fresh as they had a lot of black spots on them. I had to look very closely to find a few edible leaves. I also ordered fried chicken dumplings, which were absolutely delicious. I would come back just for the dumplings. I ordered a mango smoothie without bubbles but it was too milky for my taste so I left it untouched. The service was great, given that my friend and I were the only patrons around 7:00pm on a Saturday, which I found to be rather telling. Overall, a star for service and two stars for the dumplings, the pho not so much.

Fresh bubble tea options here and for a decent price. I got mango and it was made from some kind of chunked purée that was blended instead of just a syrup or sauce, so that was a nice touch to me. The restaurant itself is small but quaint. Easy to find location.

Customer service was good, food was not authentic at all. This is not a pho place, the broth is not authentic. When I checked in, they were out of alot of variety of meats, so I just ask them to bring out what they got. Having eat alot of pho, I can say this is probably next to the worse attempt.

Once upon a time... ...there was the cutest little pho shop with the nicest staff around. A Queen and King enjoyed it so much they brought the Princess and the Princess loved it. This was becoming the regular soup stop for the royal family as the pho broth was superior to many of its rivals in the Kingdom of Mary's Land. Then one night during a visit, the Queen went off to the restroom and the King saw mice playing cricket in the back. Mice you say? Yes, plural, real life fur balls. The End.

So I got up to get some cream puffs and as I about to sit down, the mouse came back and I told Andrew and he got the broom and dust pan and caught the mouse and killed it and proceeded to have us pay. This is what really ticked me off. I went to the front before we left and asked to speak to a manager. The girl looked and then looked over at her friend (who probably wasn't the manager) and said here she is. I told her what happened and she said "yeah sorry, we have someone coming next week and he didn't kill the mouse, he let the mouse go right outside". SERIOUSLY? That mouse is coming right back inside! This is a problem that pest control needs to come out IMMEDIATELY! I just watched a mouse get killed/caught while trying to eat! So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! We were headed to Amber Spice for a late lunch, and fortunately, we made it in before the 2:45pm cutoff (I called ahead to check). Since it was almost lunch closing, they did request that we place our orders soon after being seated. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we didn't feel rushed otherwise. We started with the veggie samosas ($6, two pieces), which were served with the traditional tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro chutney. The samosas were packed with the potato and pea filling and had a lightly crisp exterior. They were as good as any. For my entree, I ordered the butter chicken ($20), which is served with a side of basmati rice. When ordering, the waiter didn't ask about spice level. I did find their butter chicken to have some heat to it, but it wasn't anything crazy - I'd say a 3/10 for spiciness - I felt the warmth. The chicken was super tender and moist. I would be happy getting this again. I also ordered the garlic naan ($5), because you have to have something to sop up the curry goodness. The naan was hot and fresh; you could also taste the garlic. One basket came with four pieces (one whole naan), which is perfect for sharing. I finished the meal with the gulab jamun ($6) for dessert which came with three pieces of the fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup. My friend ordered the mango kulfi and loved it! She described it as a mango lassi, but frozen, which made it that much more light and refreshing. Amber Spice is a casual dining spot and it has the service to match. We were brought a carafe of water for the table to start, so it was self-serve the rest of the way. Food was brought out quickly and plates were cleared at the end, but we weren't checked on during the meal. Perhaps since we arrived near lunch closing, service was winding down, but we got what we needed. I enjoyed the food here and would come again. I'd love to see more consistency in the dumplings themselves. The Mala dumplings can be really good one day and not as great the next. Still, I think they're worth trying if you're nearby and craving something quick! 10/10 experience overall when they're fresh and hot. Here's the order of perfection: 1 (Red) Mala Chicken - 20/10 perfection. 2 (White) Pork - another 20/10, absolutely solid. 3 (Black) Truffle & Pork - 15/10, rich and earthy. 4 (Green) Shrimp - 8/10, still enjoyable but lighter. 5 (Yellow) Chicken - 6/10 (it kinda tasted like the smell of tap water at first ).
