We had a pretty bad experience with the grooming salon and we've really noticed a difference in the service since some recent staff turnover. We dropped our pooch off for a bath and brush and nail clip, which usually takes 2.5 - 3 hours (but they often finish in about 1.5 - 2 hours), and never got any phone call about him being ready for pickup. After about 3.5 hours, we decided to go back to the store and find out what's going on. It turns out that while all that time passed, the salon employee (AC) completed the bath and brush, but not the nails. In fact, the staff in the salon couldn't get ahold of AC to find out what was going on/where he was. This really concerned me...was our dog OK? Did something happen while we were gone? The nail clip and grind ended up being completed by a female employee who was very nice. We talked to the assistant store manager, Steve, and he was really nice to deal with and was extremely apologetic about the whole ordeal. He was totally confused about everything, even to the point of being worried about his employee. He even gave us a discount on our services and basically let doggo go to town on the bowl of treats at the register. ;) I know we'll be back here because it's close to home, we've never had problems like this, and the staff here really seem to like our dog. But I will not be booking future grooming sessions with AC. read more

We were in the area and dropped in to this Petsmart to pick up some dog food for our son's dog and her occasional visits to our home. She likes the Purina Pro Plan lamb and rice flavor and that's all we ever get her per the son's direction. It's convenient to have the various Petsmart locations around Chicagoland. It's usually the only reason we'll visit a Petsmart, as we don't own a pet ourselves. This location has a small strip mall storefront, but don't be fooled, as it has a pretty typical and large Petsmart floor plan inside. From a prior Yelp review site, it appears that the Banfield Pet Hospital that used to be here has closed and at present there is a Veterinary Services department here for what that's worth. read more

There's an older blonde lady and you gotta get her in her good days I know that Covid has wrecked most places due to short staffing but I for one have had enough. Jamie did a fantastic job grooming my maltipoo Frosty! I have been to other groomers who will lazily shave him instead of trim like I ask. With the weather still being chilly I would like him to have some hair to stay warm. A friend of mine referred me to Jamie and she gave him a deep conditioning treatment to help get his matts out. The grooming included a nail trim as well. He looks and smells fantastic! She also gave me some tips on how to keep him looking great in between visits. Great place, they take care of my German Shepards grooming and she is a huge dog that can be a handful and they treat her like a princess and she has even started to enjoy being groomed there. They have all the normal pet needs, but they also have an on-site vet and several dog trainers with group or individual classes. Very nice staff and very caring and kind. read more

I normally take my dogs to the grooming salon at PetSmart and they do a decent job depending on who they get. I'd give them a 4 star for a good job based on the price but after the most recent visit I'll drop it down to a 3. My dog was groomed, I brought her home and the next day noticed a cut on her leg. I was more upset that no one mentioned anything to me when I picked her up. I had to go back in there the next day to confront them and they said they would pay for her visit at Banfield. I hardly think that's a fair option, it was the absolute least they could do considering they are the ones that hurt my dog and not be forthright in what they did. For supplies and training, it's very good. For grooming, not so much. Couldn't get in to our regular groomer, so tried Pet Smart in Northbrook. Almost couldn't recognize our small dog. Shortest cut she's ever had in six years! And winter's coming! There was no need to cut everything so short, and certainly not what we wanted. Not the most even of cuts either. If you know of a good groomer there and can schedule with that one, it would be better than taking your chances with whoever is available. You should also specify exactly how you want things cut. read more

I'm not sure what these other people are talking about...she was super polite, professional, and genuinely seemed to have a great deal of knowledge about caring for dogs in general. My poodle is very shy, so it can be a challenge to get her to stay calm for a trim. At this petsmart location that is not a problem, She is excited to see the staff, and you can tell by their smiles they are excited to see her too! This place ought to be shut down. It's filthy in the worse way. I feel horrible for any animals that go into that establishment! Let alone the employees that have to work there! I would give 3.5 stars- this place is chronically understaffed and ALWAYS picked over. 3.5 cuz the people who work there are really nice. The space isn't quite big enough, either. That said, it's convenient when in the North burbs, as I often am, and will do just about anything not to buy anything in the city. BUT, it's still Cook County. It's understandable why much of the sales staff seems to lack any skills in customer service or communication (and prefers to ogle at their phone while ringing up customers at check out); the management is the most lazy and incompetent bunch of "professionals" I think I've encountered in any retail environment. It sucks that the sales team is left hanging with such poor influencers, so I no way blame them for the numerous bad experiences I've had. Just picked my dog up from the groomer. Scalped! I specifically said do NOT cut short. They called before his cut and said he had a few mats around neck and assured me they would not shave him. I shop here whenever I am in the area. I like that there are so many options in this mall that I can get everything I need done in one strip mall. The store has all the stuff I need for my cats and I never have a problem finding what I need. I became V suspect about the idea of another groomer working with my fur baby. I tried to give this specific location one more chance. However I couldn't; they were trying to play me out and say that "Leo gave discounts before." So you're telling me I received multiple "discounts" the past 9.5 years?! Girl, BYE! In a fluster I remembered that my boy had been groomed at the NB location. So I call up to make an appointment; not only does he get scheduled the same damn day, we have met his new "perfect match" for a groomer. Her name is Liz! She was so sweet and accommodating, and I greatly appreciate that. She is patient and really is considerate of ' pet parents' as she calls them needs and concerns. I have had my cats nails clipped by her and she was so patient and kind with my pet. She ran a step by step as to what she was doing/ going to do and asked if I was comfortable with it so I find it hard to believe she did not call you and ask you whether you would be cool with a shave down on matts. How about take care of your dog cause matts are caused by long term grooming neglect on your part. If you want to be dramatic and cause a scene for a free groom or money back cause you are cheap please leave names out of it. I wanted to bring up the horrible experience I had at this store's grooming salon. They completely destroyed both of my dog's fur. Stephanie called me to tell me that she would be late an hour late making my already tight schedule even tighter, I'm not a very difficult customer but when you call 10 minutes before the appointment it's kind of tough. It was painfully obvious that she had no clue as to how to do a basic "Schnauzer" style groom. My teenage Son worked to save to pay for the grooming ($118.00) just so see our dogs look awful for the upcoming 4th of July weekend. He hoped to enter the dogs into a small dog pageant amongst other military children for fun, now he's feelings are crushed and his hard earned money down the drain. Please if the groomers do not know how to groom a specific breed please address this prior to destroying a dogs fur. The work done to the body with clippers is not even at all, their tail does not seem to be trimmed at all, they both still have feces on them as if their anal glands were not cleaned out as required, their nails don't seemed worked on, ears are not cleaned out. If I could leave no stars I would. If you love your dog... DO NOT BRING THEM HERE! We brought our 100% HEALTHY German shepherd here for a bath and two days ago had to put him down. He picked up some sort of bacterial infection from going here. Our dog is not friendly so aside from being home in his yard, he does not go anywhere just to get groomed once in a great while. Had a 104.6 fever, blood work came back horrendous, was in the ER clinic for 5 hours memorial weekend... All because of this filthy establishment. I called the manager JESSE to tell him what happened. He blew me off for the entire month. Promised to call back never did. I escalated it to corporate and little do you know who calls....yup JESSE! It has now been three days since I had to put my shepherd down and it's all because of petsmart. The infection he picked up was eating away at him and slowly shutting down his organs. We were in and out of our vet for three weeks trying to save him. He couldn't walk, wouldn't eat, was leaking fluid out of his body, urine was infected (found out when they drained him with a catheter)......it makes me sick to think of. Our boy suffered so bad and he was COMPLETELY HEALTHY!!!! I wonder how many other people have went through what I have. If so please contact me directly. I would like to hear your story and help others from going through this. Save yourself the heart ach.... I have lost my forever best friend and it's all thanks to them!
