This is a huge pet store. My daughters just got a new puppy (thanks Aunt Kristin)..., Well I have been to this store 3x in the last 10 days. Every time the staff has been helpful and Friendly. But my last trip really made me a fan. The manager helped me and WOW did he rock the customer service. He sowed me the new puppy kit. He showed me the coupons. He made my puppy wash appointment. we love this petsmart! we've brought our little pug here for just about everything, mainly because of convenience, but prices are not too bad here either. Trisha is a great dog trainer, and has done a lot to help us train our little guy. her methods have been pretty effective with him and she genuinely cares for the dogs in the class. we've taken two classes with her and are thinking of taking another. Dr. Hansen, the Banfield vet is also great! We did the wellness plan for puppies so we could get him neutered and all of his shots done for around $400. We used to take him to a different animal hospital, but we were spending about $150 each visit for this or that vaccination and the costs started adding up. We were initially concerned with the level of care we would get through Banfield, but his neutering went well and Dr. Hansen is awesome! she answered all of our questions and she even had her own pug so she knows what issues we may encounter. as for the petsmart itself, everyone has always been really friendly and always greets our pug when they see him. the groomers always do a great job with him when we need to trim his nails and clean out his ears, something we can't do on our own anymore because he squirms so much when we try to. everyone is always friendly and the aisles are usually really clean. read more

This experience made me really sad. My boss and I bought beta fish for each other on Christmas. THREE associates told us not to worry if they die, because it's refundable and we didn't have to bring back the dead fish. Well, unfortunately, Marzipan and Capers DIED! We flushed them and I went back to get them within the 14 days. The guy helping me (some bigger guy a the fish tanks) told me I needed the bodies and go talk to the manager. The manager was a rude lady. She brushed me off and basically called me a liar about the beta. Which made me upset because all day I have to hear people's unreasonable claims and I have to give them free stuff basically and I'm just being honest here. Anyway, I waited for a good 10 minutes and no one would help me. I really wanted to cry. So my boss called and told the whole story and even then they wouldn't give us new fish. So we decided we'll just return all the stuff!! What are we going to do with it? I know they're only $4, but that isn't the point! I didn't want to be a typical northshore customer, because I'm not so I just didn't give them a hard time. But I for sure will no longer go there. They are just rude. read more

Grooming only: After taking my dog there several times, I started to realize something was making her sick. Almost every time we'd get her groomed, within a few hours (maybe the next day), she'd get lethargic, act as if she were in pain, move slowly, etc. After a long, exhaustive "ordeal" with management, I found out they changed their grooming products and apparently she was having some kind of reaction to it. I stopped going there immediately and moved on to a much better groomer. read more

Yuck! Walked in here to pick up some fish stuff and oh my gosh!!!! Dog pee and poop everywhere outside. And inside the store. They train dogs here and let them have their accidents all over and not one person cleaning it up. I believe the previous Yelp reviews 100%. Do not bring your dog or pet here. There is probably bacteria everywhere and I believe the person who said their dog caught something from here. I will keep my fingers crossed that I don't get sick just from breathing in the air here. I just found out my puppy has a skin rash that needed to be treated with daily baths with a special shampoo and the vet told me i should get his hair cut short so it would be easier to take care of.. (my vet is banfields in the petsmart stores) - so after my appointment i walked into the grooming salon. There was a large dog getting groomed towards the back named Marley..there were several things that happen that i found alarming.. the girl grooming the pet was yelling in the dogs face, saying BAD DOG, BAD MARLEY, The gal hit the dog in the face with the brush, two times while me and my soon to be husband stood there. she was yelling at the dog, its not my fault, THIS IS NOT MY FAULT.. about 10 times she yelled this.. and she was brushing the beard part of the dog violently ripping the tangles out while the dog was yelping and crying. sickening. i will never step foot in that place again! and i reported her to the animal abuse center! read more

I brought my 13 year old indoor cat to be brushed out. She used to be an excellent self groomer but as she has aged, she has become neglectful. I had brought her in to this PetSmart location several times over the years to get brushed and I always liked Katie, the technician. When I made the appointment, I specifically scheduled her to be brushed, that's all. As most cats, she does not like water so I don't bathe her. When I arrived, Igor was the technician. I was quite taken aback by his rude tone and flippant attitude regarding the service. In an exasperated manner, he was trying to convince me that she needed a special shampoo and brushing and that perhaps she could stay overnight. Given her age and what I believed was actually needed, I elected not to follow his recommendation. I don't know if Igor was having a bad day but moving forward, I will never bring my cat back to this PetSmart for any grooming service again. read more

Not very helpful staff. We were there when it first opened and shopping for everything for 2 newly adopted dogs. We had to flag down staff repeatedly, even though staff was not busy helping anyone else. There was one guy that saw we were struggling finding 2 crates of the same size and he walked right by us... Didn't even ask if he could help. I said excuse me... And he turned around to come back towards us as if it was a burden for him to do his job. Not great staff, not great selection of stuff... But if you know exactly what you need and need no help finding it, then this place is ok for the quick run in /out. read more

These guys are great! Everyone here is super friendly and always available to answer questions. When I was first choosing a dog food, one of the employees spent a very long time candidly, discussing the pros and cons of each brand and helped me choose the perfect food. My puppy loves coming here and getting lots of attention from everyone that works here, too. We've also had puppy classes here since August, and I couldn't be more happy with the classes and the trainer. I'm very happy with this store! read more

I have been taking my dog here for a year and have enjoyed it until the past two visits. My last visit my dog suddenly had a sore arm and yelped every time it was touched. This had not happened until after his grooming apt. I was just there again today and the staff was very rude to me (one groomer in particular but I will not call her name out). As a result I will never be returning to this groomer or store. Do not recommend. This was my first time scheduling a bath and grooming for our 6 month old king Charles caviler puppy mix. I booked online, very easy, I picked Agnes for the grooming and bath and she was awesome! She was very gentle and attentive with our little guy. He looks and smells AMAZING! She cut his nails and filed them. I will return every few months for a detailed grooming. I highly recommend Agnes! I had gone to this location on Friday and I think their level of customer service could have been a lot better. They seem to be more friendly to the locals than they do from someone just passing through. It's Northbrook what do you expect, but my thing is that if you are a paying customer you should not be subjected to the rude gazes and being ignored when you walk in. I think that some people have hang ups about certain races and if they see someone who's black walking in they assume that person will steal. I won't go there again unless I absolutely have to if there's no other PetSmart around the area. I also feel that some of the stuff is a bit overpriced because I have shopped at PetSmart for a long time and have gotten some good deals on things for my dog. read more

Decided to take my dog to the groomers at this PetSmart location (my usual location was booked for weeks) and let me tell you, biggest mistake ever!!!!! Don't waste your time or your money at this grooming location. The staff is so rude and just doesn't listen to what the customer wants. I asked for my dog to be shaven down as much as possible (since his hair grows super fast) like I always do and when I return to pick him up, it's still long. When I asked what happened the groomer tells me that this is the most she can do. I told her that I go to a different location most of the time and when they do it it's completely shaved down, and then I'm told I'm lying by her. I'm so very annoyed at this point that I pay and leave. Mind you she also started filing his nails (which costs more then clipping) without asking me first and then tells me after she's done. Very unprofessional staff. A week or so later I noticed some scabs under his chin around his neck area. Since he's a black dog I didn't notice right away....I look and see he's been cut a few times in that area and there is dried blood where the scabs are. I call and report this asking why I wasn't informed that he was cut and instead of apologizing they tell me that it's my fault and that maybe I hurt him!!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS! If I accidentally hurt him why would I call and blame someone else. Just ridiculous. Don't trust this staff with your pet. read more

Like others have noted, staff is not usually roaming around the store to help customers. If I do need help, the cashier has been more than happy to call for someone, which can take an extra minute or two. Not a really big deal in my book. I think with the economy as it is they are running on a smaller staff, and the floor folks are usually at the cash register, so they have to call someone from the back. I have always found everything I needed, and if it wasn't on the floor, there was extra stock in the back. I have been coming for 5+ years, and never have had to go somewhere else to get something I needed. read more

This is where I buy the prescription cat food my vet requires me to get for my cat. It is expensive, but fortunately the store sends me special offers from time to time that help out. The people are generally very nice. The last time I was in the store, the clerk that waited on me was a bit snippy because she said the special offer I was trying to redeem didn't apply to the particular variety of cat food I was buying, even though there was a sign posted on that shelf that said it was. Regardless, she did an override and gave me the discount, so I can't complain. One thing I especially like is that the store works with local animal shelters to help people connect with furry friends and give them "fur-ever" homes. They always have a number of beautiful cats in the store that are available for adoption at a nominal cost, and I never miss the opportunity to go have a look even though I have two of my own and can't really consider adopting another. You can donate a few dollars at the checkout, and I always do, because they really do help these animals. Another thing I like is that you are welcome to bring your cat or dog into the store while shopping, which is really great in warm weather when you can't leave them in the car safely. I like this store and they get almost all of my business for pet supplies. I can't comment on the pet hospital because I have not used them. read more

bought a lizard here for the boys in May... told em it was from vacation and we brought it all the way back from the islands... funny right? they are young, they will forgive the tall tale when they have kids of their own. anyway, 'lizardee' (the tarantula is tarantula-ee, get it?) is twice the size, all the advice we got must have been spot on because I've never seen a healthier critter. MY DOG GOT SCALPED BY JESS, TOO!! Imagine finding similar reviews to mine when I got on this site. My dog is--was--an 8-year-old gorgeous long-haired soft-coated Wheaten whom I brought in for first-time grooming with Jess, though I have been taking him to PetSmart in Northbrook without incident since he was a puppy. After telling me I did a great job de-matting him, I told her she could take roughly an inch off his back, but to keep his legs, face and tail full, because that was his signature look and so suited his personality. I did not think showing past pictures of him freshly groomed was necessary because I never had a problem before. (While there is a lot of turnover in the Northbrook grooming salon, everyone had done a beautiful job before.) Jess called me while she was starting to groom him and said there was a matting problem with one of his front legs and chest, but I did not think that would result in a near-shaving of his entire body (except for his face, which was still way shorter than normal). When I saw my dog, he was almost unrecognizable to me, and it will take many long winter months for him to even return to "normal." I can only attribute this botched job to either indifference or impatience, in which case Jess should find another line of work. If Jess had called me and said it would have taken a little longer to de-mat that 10% of him that was a problem, I would have paid for the extra time (and I DID pay for the conditioner), but now I will never go back to the PetSmart grooming salon or the store itself. read more

They do get one star because most of the time they have given my dog an excellent cut and service (and that is about 2-3 years worth of grooming) and another star for good pricing. HOWEVER... I cannot stand calling or walking into this place. It is a perpetual cluster and they never seem to know what is going on. It's no small miracle that they manage to get the right dogs back to the right owners. Its a shame, I'd like to be able to keep bringing my dog here because it's close and I can usually get a last minute appointment, but frankly I am fed up with the chaos. read more

Took my cat to get a lion-cut. I gave this review 2-stars because they did a fine job on the cut. HOWEVER...my cat got ringworm from this place. It was pretty bad, and my cat doesn't leave the house at all, except for this first grooming we did, and periodic vet appointments so this grooming session was the only thing that could have possibly caused it. Cat had lots of bald patches, and lost weight while he was sick/with his treatment(vet said probably because he was licking the ringworm medicine). So, overall experience was not great....they need to clean their facilities better so things like this do not happen, or if that's not possible, at least warn us that this was a possibility from getting him groomed at this location so we knew what to possibly expect. With vet fees and medicine this experience wound up costing us hundreds of dollars. read more

Petsmart seems like a wonderful place, it is but only for fish. I went there and I purchased a chameleon and they gave me 100 crickets but nothing to keep them Alive. They also gave us mealworms that he isn't suppose to eat! They gave me very much supplies but not what I needed. I went back the next day and got a new lamp which broke, another lamp for even more warmth I returned the crickets AND mealworms and got 25 crickets and cricket food. There were MANY more trips back for various reasons and now a couple weeks later and we finally asked someone else from a different pethop and he said my chameleon has pneumonia:(. He said petsmart gave me a chameleon that wasn't "wormed" so it caught parasites and I took him to the vet and it is a girl! Too much money to help and it might not even work it ended up going to animal rescue and I got a refund from petsmart read more

these are the most patient and wonderful groomers. my dog is very anxious and gets aggressive when people scare him. they are so gentle and patient with both of us!!
