I adapted to formally feral kittens. One of them, the more scared one, took a very long time to let me pet her by choice. Because she is a long-haired cat, who was cut free from being matted to a fence as a kitten, she was a bit of a hot mess. Short haired, cats do not require grooming necessarily. But long-haired cats absolutely do. To say I was anxious for her first grooming is an understatement. I stayed nearby certain they were going to call me and say she is done... meaning she won't let us touch her. Not only did that not happen, but I think she actually liked it lol. She was pretty full of herself looking all beautiful when I got her home. The staff was amazing, and I could not have been happier. read more

The very worst grooming job ever. I paid a premium price to have a terrier hand stripped. All they stripped was her back. They used scissors on her face and neck - a huge no no when grooming a terrier. Her tail was not touched and it appears her ears, face and neck were untouched except for right in front of her eyes. I have been taking my beautiful (show dog quality) boy to Love Fur Dogs for years. He looked best when Jennifer was running the show on a daily basis, but he always came out looking so good. Not last time. In fact he now looks like an ugly mutt (no disrespect to mutts), with his now barely-there (and usually so full and cute) snout cut short and unevenly and with literally holes in his body hair. I don't mind spending $130+ for a master groomer, but for a novice hack? No thanks. read more

My nine-month-old Bernedoodle had a big pooptastrophy yesterday and despite my best efforts I couldn't clean it all myself. My usual groomer is closed on the weekends so I called Love Fur Dogs and explained the situation. They were fully booked but agreed to take him, and for their helpfulness I am super grateful and give full stars. The woman at the counter was very kind and helpful, so no complaints there, either. I asked for a bath and tidy, and specifically mentioned that the fur around his mouth and eyes needed to be trimmed, as well as his nails. My husband picked him up when he was done and brought him home. Although clean, his face does not look trimmed at all and his nails seem a bit hit or miss. The weirdest thing, however, is that when he was lying on his back last night I noticed that one of his testicles looks bald and the fur around it looks cut in a very uneven, choppy way. It's a total hatchet job. I'm just glad it's not on a more noticeable area. I'm sure it's not easy to trim there, but my dog is from a breeder who owns a grooming business and she groomed him once a week for six weeks as a puppy to get him used to the process; he's very used to grooming. For the bath and lack of/bad trimming I was charged $110, about 40% more than my usual place. My husband tipped $20 on top of that, so it was as very expensive bath. EDITED AFTER READING THE OWNER'S RESPONSE: Jennifer has explained why Dante's nether regions were groomed the way they were and I really appreciate the explanation. I had no idea he had such bad matting there and feel horrible about it! I was told that Dante would be done around 2:00 and my husband was out running errands around that time; he wanted to be helpful and save me an extra trip out so he swung by to pick him up. I fully understand that groomers usually call when the dog is done. Chances are my husband said something like, "I thought he'd be done by now," and if he did I'd rather the groomer explain that they need more time than rush the job. The area around his eyes doesn't seem different to me, so perhaps this is a stylistic difference? I definitely asked for his nose and mouth to be trimmed but understand that miscommunications happen. No harm, no foul. I appreciate the offer to fix those small issues and will change my review from two to four stars based on the owners thoughtful response. read more

My dogs and I have been to a few salons we moved from California and Came to Illinois about 8 months ago What stood out to me the most was the transmutable energy of how quickly connected my dogs become upon greeting staff on the first day! since then my dogs are happy when I tell them we are going to the groomers. Before they used to defy and not want to get out of the car. My 16 month old bichon poodle, Rocky, is a client at Love Fur Dogs. His fur gets very matted despite daily brushing. Found this place by accident by going to the Walgreens store which happens that they are located beside it. I was looking for a very good groomer who can do a show cut for my bichon frise. A lot of groomers tried by failed to impress me. I had one but we have to drive to Wheaton, il which is 45 drive from where we live. So we tried Love Fur Dogs and Wow! Knowledge is power. I posted the same review for those that rely on Google as well. Stay away! Wow, what a dysfunctional business! Go elsewhere, too many other valuable options to turn to instead of putting up with this kind of BS. I gave them not one, but TWO chances! FAILED miserably on BOTH chances!!!! First appointment: I made an appointment to get our dog groomed. They committed to the grooming and made the appointment. After 4 hours at the shop- they called me back and said they didn't have time to groom him and bathed him only instead. Oh by the way, that will be $80 for the bathing! (I wish I was making this up.) The nice part of me thought, everyone has their moments, let me give them a second chace, shaking it off.. second try- made an appointment 3 weeks out.. for a morning cut. Again, no calls or updates until 4 1/2 hours later- He's ready- come pick him up. I show up an hour later after the call- get charged for 'baby sitting' because I couldn't show up within the hour of them calling announcing the pick up- seriously? $100 dollar fee for the cut and 'baby sitting.' I think they're a great grooming service for house wives or husbands that have all the time in the world and flexibility to accommodate. Those that can show up 2, 3, 4 hours later and are mercy of the pet shop and are OK for over-priced service. Not for the rest of us, stay away! There are too many options out there in the north shore to put up with this kind of lackadaisical service. Oh yea, contrary to the owner's belief, Petco isn't the only counter option. I couldn't stop laughing when the owner said Petco is the only other option if you're not willing to want to wait for 4-6 hours after a scheduled appointment on a haircut for your dog. LOL! I liked this groomer when they opened. Things have gone steadily and rapidly downhill. They are extremely disorganized. They started booking groomings automatically because they were so busy. (Good for them) A couple of times they did not notify me of the time and date. They system was very confusing and Jennifer, the owner was very anxious and it seemed did not know how to move to the new system. I felt compelled to write an update since I raved about the shop previously -- up until October 2018 (about 3 years all in), I had taken my miniature poodle to Love Fur Dogs after I lost my groomer of over 22 years 3 years ago. I enjoyed talking "poodle" with the owner/groomer and was always very happy with the clip since I like longer, hand shearing. For most of 2018, I felt the timing on picking my dog up, was all over the place, so much that I could not really plan to do anything on Saturday's that he was groomed - even if I had an 8:00 a.m. appointment. Sometimes he'd be ready at 1:00 pm, sometimes at 3:00 pm and yes, sometimes he was not ready until 6:30 pm. Working full time, I could not blow a Saturday just for a groom. I can only imagine the stresses of employees calling in sick, or leaving, etc., but it was getting old. I had spoken to a couple of the front desk staff, too, and it seems to be a very high-stress environment, sometimes walk-ins took precedence over an appointment, etc. I finally decided to spend the money and buy the pro tools and embark on grooming my dog myself and, although it is challenging, my stress level and time allotments for his grooming have dropped considerably. Jennifer is a great groomer, but it became more and more noticeable over the last year, that the place was very disorganized, etc., and since it was 1/2 hour drive for me each way, figured it was time to learn myself. I am happier, although I do miss some of those WOW grooms, but I will get there with practice. Perhaps it will get more organized or you may just have better luck. read more

The business owner's response underscores my previously expressed opinion that she assumes no responsibility whatsoever for the injuries that she causes the animals under her temporary care and control. She provides a carefully worded response to my review that makes me, a long-term client, look absolutely insane and, therefore, not to be taken seriously. I never insisted that the business owner use harmful ear cleaner on my dogs. Rather, she suggested the cleaner which she stocks which she told me is "wonderful." The dogs are anything but unruly. They are well trained, and often receive compliments on their composure and behavior. Reports of of the supposed horrors that the business owner endured are fantastic in themselves and do not merit a response. Never once, did the owner report anything of the sort to me over nearly three years. Re the dogs' burnt corneas, this was the result of her staff failing to exercise proper care by, among other things, bathing the two dogs together (odd, in itself, since she now claims that the dogs do not get along with each other). (At the time, the business owner told me there was "someone new" bathing the dogs.) Beyond this, no, I was never "late" in picking up the dogs. I would typically drop off the dogs on time at 8:45 a.m., receive guidance from the owner and/or staff that the dogs would be ready at a certain time (typically 1:30 or 2:00), and receive a call just prior to the scheduled pickup informing me that the owner needed more time (often another two hours). Lastly, it was not a mutual decision to cut ties. The final straw occurred some two weeks ago when I picked up the dogs, was handed a leather leash that was cut, and received one of my dogs with blood on its face and paws. I took the dog to the vet where they examined him, told me that the tongue had been cut but would likely heal in several days, and cleaned him up. (Several cloths covered with blood.) I then phoned Love Fur Dogs, and left a message for the owner that I would not be returning. (Adding insult to injury, the owner sent a long e-mail to me, after receiving my message, suggesting that we part ways.) The owner says she "loves" the dogs. I seriously doubt that. What the owner loves, in my opinion, is the some $200 plus tips that I paid to her each week. I do not frequently write reviews on Yelp or anywhere else. I defer to the reader to determine who is more credible here. (I am not the first client with a negative review whom the owner has seen fit to excoriate.) If you love your dog, look elsewhere. read more

DOESN'T VALUE LONG TIME CLIENTS! BEWARE! TO START: IT'S SHAME THAT SUCH A BUSINESS CAN'T OWN ITS MISTAKES BUT TRIES TO DISCREDIT THE CLIENT. SHAME. I've been coming here for 3 YEARS for my mini-schnauzer(s) and now we're NOT GOING BACK! First of all, the owner JENNIFER with whom I talked on the phone, personally told me that she would take my dogs in on the 29th Nov. 2018 at 3pm and said they would be done by 7pm. That's what she said on the phone on the day when I scheduled the grooming. So, grooming day comes. I dropped off my dogs at 3pm, at 6:03pm I was called and told that the dogs would be ready to be picked up in 10mins. At 6:20pm they called again and asked how far away we are. I told her assistant probably 25mins due to traffic. Less than five minutes they called again and this time the owner jennifer was on the phone and was angry at us because WE COULD NOT JUMP IN OUR CAR AND FLY TO HER SHOP THE SECOND SHE CALLED US! With her demanding tone, she told me to look for someone else to pick up our dogs. I even APOLOGIZED to her considering she gave us so little time and that WHEN I BOOKED THE GROOMING SHE TOLD ME 7PM was the time they would be ready. BUT NO! She was very upset and she told us that she would leave our two dogs at a nearby dog hospital! I just said YES to comply fearing escalation of the argument. Then she called again (i guess after calming down) and told us that she'll just charge us $50 for both dogs so that her assistant could stay at the shop and wait for us. So, without hesitation I just said; "ok, we'll pay to get it over with." And paid on the phone with our credit cards at 6:25pm. She ranted about the whole thing as UNACCEPTABLE! Because she had a convention to attend and all that which she did not mention on the day of booking or earlier that day!!! Yes, it is UNACCEPTABLE! Talking to your clients that way and considering it's your mistake! You told me 7pm. If you thought you would finish earlier, you should give your clients some EXTRA TIME at least an HOUR to pick up their dogs! We have our LIVES and WORK TO DO, we're not just sitting in our house waiting for your call; ready to jump in our cars the SECOND YOU CALL. P.s. we arrived at the shop 6:45pm. 15mins earlier than the time she specified. read more

I am beyond disappointed in this place. I have used them since they opened. Although they have been flakey and disorganized at times, I overlooked this due to the proximity and convenience and quality of work. However, after my last experience I felt compelled to not only never use them again, but share my experience as well. I received a call while my dog was getting groomed. Jennifer left a long message telling me my dog was very upset and insisting on tranquilizing my dog or using CBD oil in the future. I was confused because we had already had several discussions about using CBD oil and in fact had trialed it couple of times due to my dogs anxiety over grooming. In fact at his last grooming we had a discussion about how the oil was helping and they would try a larger dose. They did not keep these conversations in their files and forgot. This is the flakiness I was talking about before. I also would've overlooked this, but then I found out that when my 16-year-old son came to pick our dog up they asked him to come in the back and hold him down why they cut him. My son was extremely uncomfortable and didn't know how to say no. They ended up not finishing the cut however they did charge me. I called and spoke to someone expressing my frustration. They told me Jennifer was not available and would call me the next day. I expressed more frustration about the incomplete grooming and full charge. The person on the other line not only was unapologetic, but rude and ended up hanging up on me.. That was 2 days ago and Jennifer has not called me back. This kind of service is unacceptable in my opinion and a slap in the face for a loyal customer! So disappointed! read more

Again, the response to my review is ridiculous. My dog was NOT matted, as he gets regular grooming and I tried this business because it was closer to my home. His nails are clipped regularly, and her response is a 'cya' to protect her business. HOORAY! FINALLY! A high service, customer focused, trained groomer comes to the North Shore! What a difference! For some reason, I find other groomers on the north shore tend to act like they are doing YOU a favor by accepting your dog... and your money. Worse, for the most part, they don't have staff trained in grooming to justify their prices or ego! Love fur dogs is a refreshing contrast in a north shore grooming salon! Jennifer is an internationally certified master groomer.... AND, together with her husband Bill... She is setting a new standard for the level of customer service and quality in our area. Both the people and the dogs in our family are very happy! Their team is polite, accommodating and very professional. They are highly focused on service and convenience. For example they have a taxi service if you can't get fido to or from their shop! If you do go to the shop, you will see a well designed, light filled space and can easily observe the grooming area. You can see the team people who look like they really enjoy working with animals that are clearly being well cared for and respected. The skills and knowledge are also superior. We walked into this shop the day our former groomer butchered our dogs and then told us it was "the way dogs get done here"... (Despite the fact we were long standing patrons and this was NOT consistent with past cuts....The dogs looked like they were in the midst of chemotherapy!). As a certified master groomer, there are no "one cut fits all dogs" with Jennifer's team. She actually trains her team.... And they know the right way to handle different types of dogs, fur and life situations. They really work with you to get the groom appropriate for your animal.... For example, for certain dogs they only use hand scissors vs other salons who defaulting to an electric razor regardless of the type coat so they can push more animals through in a day (the reason for my poor pups past chemo cut experience!) With all this, I was nervous that their pricing would be out of reach.... I have multiple dogs that need regular grooming. But this place has their competition on the run here too. The rates are very competitive. The maintenance and grooming program is well designed and very reasonable. As a owner of multiple dogs, with their program I am paying less overall than with a groomer who gave me attitude and poor service, and I am working with a highly service oriented business who proves me a better service, an enjoyable experience and happier dogs! In addition to a salon, Jennifer and Bill also have a school on site that offers a certified training program for groomers. Hopefully, with their guidance, we are on the verge of seeing more groomers in this area with the skills, service level and genuine caring for animals that they exemplify. I am so happy with this place! I have an older cat (15yo) who's starting to slow down and can't quite keep herself as clean as she'd like. Brought her to Judy and it was great!! My little Abby came out soft and clean, and the shampoo Judy used left no overpowering odor! Just a word of advice if you want to bring your cat in: it's a very busy place! Make sure your cat gets in either first thing in the morning or last in the evening when it's more quiet. I brought my dog in to get her nails clipped. The staff was friendly and said they would do it while I waited. They came to get my dog and brought her in to the back. They have a nice facility with glass so you can see what's going on. My dog is a very nervous dog and she cried a lot. The woman who clipped her nails (I did not get her name) was very rough with her, yelling at her and yanking her legs to the side, both front and back, and not bending her knee. My dog was whimpering with anxiety and yelping in pain. Never was there an "it's ok" or a kind word to my dog. I had to yell to them to not pull on her legs that she had bad hips, at which point they said "O, thanks for telling us" and then bent her back legs at the knee and cut her nails at the appropriate angle. They then brought her out and began sweet talk to her..."you're such a good girl". I am glad I was there to see the way they treated my dog. What would of happened if I was not there? Would they have yanked on her leg harder. I will not return and its a shame, it's a very convenient location. But I will travel father to get kinder service. Highly disappointed! read more

I've been taking my mini golden doodle to Jennifer (owner) and the staff at Love Fur Dogs since the week they opened due to the excellent grooming, compassion of everyone that works there and unparalleled customer service. I have been remiss in writing a review (not something I typically do), but am compelled now due to an above and way beyond customer service experience I had this past weekend. My dog needed a product at the store to keep her comfortable over the weekend- but the store had closed. I texted the owner (Jennifer) who responded after hours right away and insisted on meeting me at store to open it to get me the product so that my dog was comfortable. She was in the middle of a family event, and this was not an emergency at all, but Jennifer did not want my dog to be uncomfortable so went out of her way to meet me and re-open store to give me this product. This was not surprising as that's just the way she is- customer service devotee and compassion for the animals! On a grooming note, my dog actually loves going to get groomed which is unheard of (and was not the experience when we took her to prior groomers). The quality of work is second to none and the love each staff member has for the dogs they take care of is evident by their gentle and kind manner with each "customer".
