One thing was clear from the start: Marnie loves dogs and understands them. The first time she came to our home, Jasper immediately took to her, and she to him. Jasper came to us through a shelter, a very sweet, high energy, 1 year old Australian cattle mix. He was smart and eager to please in some ways but pulled hard on walks and, after we had him for several months, became leash reactive and aggressive . We tried two different dog trainers, both highly recommended, but made little progress. From our first in-home lesson, it was clear that Marnie has a depth of understanding of dogs and how to work with them that we had not seen before. She has helped with us to understand the roots of Jasper's negative behaviors, how to help him feel secure, and how to recognize and avoid trouble with aggressive behavior He has improved so much in reactivity and aggression and generally in being more responsive. He's much better at walking without pulling and getting along with others at the dog park. Marni also does both day care and boarding at her home which is surrounded by an acre yard that is totally dedicated to dogs. She gives private lessons there too. With Jasper in among other dogs, Marnie showed us how to "read" his behavior and reactions to the other dogs and how to intervene with firmness and kindness. Today I had my 13-year old Havanese groomed at Rover's Place, and I'm thrilled…read more After a brutal groom at Wags on Willow (reviewed separately), our vet suggested Rover's, and I'm so glad. My senior dog can't take epic grooming sessions, and her hair was choppy and uneven after her last groom. Her ears and tail had been weirdly shaved, and I wasn't sure we'd be able to make her look normal again during her lifetime. The staff at Rover's is friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The groomer we saw today has been grooming for 18 years, and had my sweet pup groomed in 45 minutes--and it's the best cut she's had in years. She did what she could to round out her ears, and to help set her up with a cut she can grow back into and look like herself again. My dog is fluffy, soft, adorable, and HAPPY! As a side note, all of the groomers there today were being so warm and friendly with the dogs in their care. I even saw one groomer sitting on the floor keeping a dog company while it waited for its owner. We will be going to Rover's for our grooming from now on!!

She is a dopey but strong dog, and super sweet and her definition of playing with other dogs frequently involves jumping over them, something we have beenn working on. Up until her boarding experience, she had successful play dates with doggy friends, ran around at the dog park with friends, overall did well. During her stay, we were out of the country. After a successful trial and all the positive reviews, we were confident she would do well. It was not her first time boarding, just her first time at Rovers. Well - in checking in with the Webcam, we would find that she would be let into the group room for moments, jump and then be created for 30 minutes or more at a time - repeatedly. Meaning she would get minutes of free time per day to play or get energy out. This went on every time we checked until I finally contacted them to ask what was going on. I totally understand needing to separate dogs that create issues with the group, but she was there for 10+ days and this went on every day. SHe was getting little to no interaction, just punishment from what we observed. After communicating with the team there via email, I felt slightly more confident although still a little worried. While traveling home, we found out she had been in a scuffle with another dog and was at the vet ER. While serious, this was also downplayed. When we finally got to her 24 hours later, she was shaved, in a cone, with stitches all over and on pain meds. She has not been the same since :-( A few months later and we are seeing residual issues. Out of the blue she sometimes growls or lunges at people she knows (outside of our family) each time looking like she feels as though she needs to protext herself. These are people she had spent time with here and there before without issue. She needs more encouragement to be able to perform certain things (climbing stairs, going outside) than she ever needed before (to note, she is a rescue we had had for 10 months before she was attacked at Rovers). She is scared of more things than before, irrationally hiding at times from things she was previously used to (my child practicing an instrument, the sound of the garage opening). I don't know for certain what really happened, we were never really informed, but all in all my baby girl is showing signs of trauma she didn't have before. We feel so bad that we left her there, and certainly caution others to do the same.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR ONE PARTICULAR INCIDENT:…read more Our beloved dog (Zoe) of 15 years battled through cancer for 2 years and last Thursday was the day we decided to let her go after a seizure episode that she couldn't recover from. Unfortunately, what we thought would be a peaceful goodbye turned out to be a devastating experience to our family (and sad for Zoe). The doctor lacked compassion and bedside manner. When our dog was still breathing after administering the 3rd shot, he said "I don't understand, these shots would have taken a horse down." This is NOT something you say to a grieving family, maybe to your colleagues or students. There were no comforting words or explanation as to what was happening. All he did was go in and out of the room to give her more shots because our dog was still breathing (he tells us, "I've been doing this for 53 years and I never had this happen"). After the 4th shot, he came back in the room and told us that he would have to administer an intracardiac euthanasia. I totally lost it! My son and I walked out of the room, but my husband and daughter stayed. My husband said that 2 shots were given straight to her heart. This was such a devastating and traumatic experience for all of us. We were hoping that our final moments with our beloved Zoe would be peaceful, but it was not. My husband said that it was only at this moment (after Zoe's heart had stopped), the doctor said that it had to be done because of her low blood pressure (no other time during our ordeal did he offer an explanation). The only positive thing I can say was that the attending Vet Nurse Britina showed compassion, and Vet Nurse Sara who sat down with me and my son in the lobby, explained to us what "could" possibly be happening to Zoe. Sara lend a warm touch to ease my pain. This doctor has 53 years of experience, he may have been so desensitized after doing this for 53 years (like it's just another day in the office), because he showed no care or sympathy. We have seen other doctors in this clinic who has much less experience but showed more care and empathy. I am writing this to spare someone from this awful, awful experience. Overall, Zoe has been going here for over 3 years since our old Vet moved out of state. Zoe had seen Dr. Zebold and Dr. McGriff, and they are both great. Unfortunately, this one particular incident is a horrendous experience we will never forget.

It's a wonderful place for dogs! You can see that everyone who works there loves dogs and really cares about them. I have been taking Shyla here for day care for several years, and I board her there when necessary. I wouldn't trust Shyla to anyone else! The place is HUGE and very clean. There are several different areas of play, both inside and outside, and a few different types of sleeping areas for overnight guests. When you board your dog you get a report card, letting you know everything you'd want to know about your dog's stay! Plus they have webcams all over the place, but I don't use them anymore. I know Shyla is in loving care, safe and happy! Wiggly Tails is where you want your dog to be! (And this is about the 3rd review I've given them in the past four years! The wonderful people who work there have become our family! And it's Shyla's second home!)

We planned to board our dogs again later this year, and since it had been two years since we last boarded them, they asked us to bring our dogs in for a few hours of temperament evaluation. We dropped our dogs off yesterday for that few hours of evaluation, and alas, within 10 minutes of dropping them off the Wiggly Tails owner called and told us to come back and get our dogs. He said that our Jack Russell mix had become aggressive when they tried to remove his leash (his leash is a little tricky to remove, which in retrospect we should have advised them of). What we didn't appreciate was the owner's unwillingness to discuss the issue. Yes, our Jack Russell mix becomes aggressive when a stranger sticks their hands in his face, but he's always been that way and in the past the Wiggly Tails staff always found their way into his confidence, and he's never bitten anyone, but the owner was adamant: come get your dogs. We retrieved our dogs feeling that Wiggly Tails no longer wants or needs our business.

I received a call the day after Christmas, that my dog was howling in pain and couldn't get up. I…read moreasked if they could get him to a vet and they said no, I had to pick him up. When arrived they wanted to use ropes to lift him with due to so badly soiled. So we supplied our own blanket and carried him to car. He was in obvious pain, soiled, bleeding from mouth. He was immediately taken to animal hospital and advised had to be put down for fractured back and kidney issues. When asked for an explanation Randa immediately sent a refund saying upon my request, which was just for explanation. When followed up was told I can't sue because I signed a waiver, that it was my fault for boarding an older dog and not boarded before. I never made any accusations or asked for anything but an explanation. I'm so devastated I left my pet/family member in their care.

We've been bringing our miniature poodles here for boarding and grooming for several years. We've…read morealways been pleased with the care and attention they've given our pups. But they really stood out with their care for our 17 year old, Bailey. Bailey had been showing his age, and standing for grooming was hard for him. When this first happened, they would always ensure he spent the least amount of time possible there and he was almost always ready before 11 a.m. Later, they adjusted the cut they gave him so he didn't have to stand so long. We had Bailey at Carriage Hill for grooming a couple weeks ago. While he was there, he had a seizure (he'd had a couple before and was on medication for them, not at all the fault of Carriage Hill). They called us to come pick him up. When we got there, Francine asked us for his leash so she could comfort him with a familiar smell when they picked him up. They carried our sweet boy to us and Francine was very kind when I asked, "is it time?" We made the difficult decision every dog owner dreads but it was clear that he was having more bad days than good ones. That experience made it crystal clear to me that the team at Carriage Hill really does care about the animals in their care and they make their living doing something that they are passionate about. I can't thank them enough for the kindness they showed us that day and can't wait for the day we're able to bring a new puppy there for grooming.
