I'm writing this because other dog owners deserve to know how this business handles things when something goes wrong. I had been a loyal customer at Complete Dog for a while and always trusted them with my dog. The day after her appointment, I noticed a cut and called the groomer right away to ask what happened. They denied any responsibility and showed no concern. I took her to the vet, and when they saw the cut, they told us to bring her in almost immediately because they were worried it could be infected. After examining her, they said it likely could've happened at the groomer. The owner refunded the vet bill--but called it a "courtesy" and still denied anything happened under their care. They also refused to refund the grooming, saying they should still be paid because the haircut was "completed." My dog was hurt, and all they seemed to care about was getting paid. The way I was treated as a customer was cold, rude, and completely unprofessional. This was an incredibly upsetting experience, and I would never want another pet owner or pet to go through what we did. Please think twice before taking your dog to Complete Dog. read more

Maggie is my super sensitive standard poodle girl. She typically shakes any time I take her to the groomer or vet...but not when I bring her here to The Complete Dog! Don't get me wrong, she still wants to leave with me, but she's not scared to stay--and THAT means a lot to me. I've been here a few times and really love the way the business is ran. We took our 14 year old dog to the same groomer in Glenview on Waukegan Road for years. About four months ago we took him in for his regular grooming. He had a sore on his forehead and we explicitly told the groomer to not go near the sore when grooming. They not only did not listen, they caused it to bleed on and off x 10 days. Needless to say we weren't going back there again. I initially wanted a mobile groomer but none were taking new clients. So I put out a request for recommendations on Next Door and got a lot of recs for The Complete Dog. Although somewhat more expensive than other groomers, they were amazing and our dog looks wonderful!!! They called us when they were done and we picked him up ASAP. I would NEVER recommend this groomer to anyone! To be honest I never write reviews because I believe that everyone can have a bad day and it's best to give people the benefit of the doubt... HOWEVER by staying silent and not letting people know about my experience with this groomer just allows for other pets and their owners to have the possibility of going through the same horrific experience I did. My dog is a golden doodle and when he was picked up he did not even resemble himself. He was shaven, bleeding and scabbing on his ears, itching like crazy from what seemed like razor burn and more! My husband and I couldn't stand watching him in such agony so we took him to the vet only to find out he had acquired a skin infection.... I contacted the groomer asking why they shaved him without any notification as well as informed her of the skin infection and scabbing. You would think she was apologize and try to explain herself but instead she was very rude and defensive. She blamed me for this whole situation stating that my dog was "matted" and he needed to be shaved. Which if you think he is matted then just call me and tell me that grooming him will not be easy and that you recommend him getting shaven. It would have been less of a shock upon picking him up and we both would have been on the same page. But that never happened she just shaved him. BUT now my main concern and why I am writing this review is why are there bloody scabs/razor burn/ no eyelashes/ no whiskers on my dog?!?!?! Nevertheless, as we spoke She proceeded to laugh/yell at me when I told her he had been diagnosed with a skin infection and she demanded my vets phone number so she can call them.... i can honestly keep going on about how unprofessional this facility is but at this point I'm only posting this to prevent others from this happening to their pets. I spent over a week staying up all night with my dog as he licked and scratched his whole body from the skin infection and razor burn. To this day he is afraid of waking into any facility..... I posted some pics a week after the cut and they just show some of scabbing and unevenness. I have been coming to this establishment for quite some time. The last time I brought my dog in, a new groomer "groomed" and cut my dog's hair. It was horrible!!! They didn't cut the nails and the cut was short in some places and long in others. It was basically a mess. Such a mess that everyone who sees him asks what happened?! When I spoke to the owner to discuss what happened, she said it was horrible of me to say her groomer did a bad job. She continued to tell me there are worse things in life, she would not issue a refund, no offer to help or fix the situation in any manner. She was rude and mad at me! I will not be coming back. My labradoodle grand-dog went there twice and both times were terrible. The first time they nicked his scrum and he had to wear a soft cone for 3 days so that he wouldn't lick it. What kind of a place does that and doesn't say anything? My daughter took him back there, why I don't understand, and his belly was matted, so they shaved his entire body, including his tail and face. They never called to say they were going to shave him. It was a shock, and they charged $85. He looks like a large, blonde rat ...skinny face and tail. The groomers may be on commission so they want to get through as many dogs as possible. He looks terrible. Don't go there and trust them to keep you informed about what they are going to do to your dog. read more

I am honestly disappointed in myself for not coming on here and reading the negative reviews before I took my dog to this place. The first time we came here was in 2018 when we first moved to the area and we came here because it is only 3 minutes away from us. We weren't completely satisfied with how she looked the first time so we took her to Kriser's regularly up until the pandemic hit. The Complete Dog was one of the first groomers to open back up during the pandemic and since our dog, a 35 lb female mini Goldendoodle, needed a groom badly, we decided to give this place another shot. All went well, no complaints really except for our dog not liking the dryer. We were charged $90, which is fine. Since that appointment went well, we took her in again about 2 months later and this is when everything started going downhill. Again, we were only told that she didn't like the dryer, which I guess is normal since the dryer is loud. We were again charged $90. A few days later we started noticing some cuts on her body. For some odd reason, we didn't think that it was from the groom since this has never happened before so we decided to take her to the vet, who told us otherwise. Apparently the cuts were consistent with those of a razor. They took some tests and the results came back positive for some sort of infection. Listen, we're pretty forgiving people and always give people the benefit of the doubt (which I know in this case we shouldn't have - it is 100% our fault for bringing her back here) so when we dropped her off for another groom today, all we did was tell them what had happened last time with the razor cuts and to be careful with her. Fast forward 3.5 hours and I get a call from the owner who tells me that my dog is ready and that it's going to be $120.00. I asked her why such a steep jump in price, and she told me that my dog was "awful" and "not a good groom", which to be honest is pretty rude coming from a business owner. I hung up and both my husband and I went in to pick her up. We were obviously not going to pay her $120 ESPECIALLY after she cut up our dog last time. Think about it, if your kid goes to a daycare that charges $500/week and the teacher calls you one day and says "you know what, I have to charge you $550 this week because your child threw a tantrum today", what would you do? THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN, EVER. We told her this and she became very defensive and rude saying that she wanted proof from our vet that the cuts were from her and that she was going to call them. We told her to go ahead and do so. Our dog is extremely friendly and was always excited for her grooms at Kriser's and for the first time ever, when my husband dropped her off today, he said that she did not want to go in. My dog was probably more aggressive today BECAUSE YOU GUYS WERE HURTING HER AND SHE HAD ANXIETY FROM HER LAST GROOM. I came on here to leave a review and to tell potential clients who are thinking of coming to this horrible place to be vigilant. The reviewer before me had a very similar experience and I can't believe I never saw her review. And to the owner, Birgit, you need to learn how to become a good business owner and own up to your mistakes. When a client tells you that you made a mistake, you apologize and move on and make sure that mistake doesn't happen again. Instead, this lady told us never to come back again (which honey, don't worry, we never were). Don't be a groomer if you are unable to calm down a nervous dog... especially if the reason why the dog is nervous is because of you. And to those wondering how her groom went today, she has another cut. No wonder she was "aggressive". read more

This place is awful. I specifically made an early morning grooming appt for my dog telling them I didn't care what day but he just needed to be the first appointment bc he gets anxious. I was happy to wait weeks not a big deal. They said no problem. When I dropped him off at 7:30a I confirmed that I could pick him up at 9:30a and they said yes. I called at 10:15a to find out his status and they hadn't even started on him. I spoke with the owner who was incredibly rude and took zero responsibility just kept saying she was busy. She couldn't have cared less that the person who I made the appointment with AND the person I spoke with when I dropped of my dog both confirmed he would be first appointment out in two hours. There are MUCH better dog groomers and I wouldn't dream of leaving my dog in their care for 5 minutes let alone hours for grooming. Have brought dogs over here for YEARS and are one the only cage free groomers that I know of. They really helped my mom's SUPER matted poodle more than a few times, and do the best jobs with an aggressive rescue I have. The dogs leave here in better spirits. All the groomers there are like dog whisperers and I'll never trust anyone else. They know your pets, after two visits, probably better than yourself. The establishment is not fancy but the dogs don't care, as they get to socialize with other dogs while they wait to be picked up after a grooming. For us, that adds considerable value to this service. Asked for an appt for newly rescued dog asap. They had no avail slot for couple days. Right before July ,4.They squeezed me in since dog was short hair small. No cage and they were great with him. He was nervous. Did an awesome job and dog became calm and comfortable with other dogs. Very friendly and obviously love dogs. read more

No cage groomer. They get my dog in and out within a few hours. Very friendly and professional. The dogs who get groomed there always seem very relaxed. Love this place. Ruby my German Shepard mix has been going to complete dog since I got her. Ten years later Ruby still can't wait to get out of the car when I pull up to this place. Growing up my poodle went to The Complete Dog, so when it was time to decide where to take my dog to get groomed The Complete Dog was top of the list! Birgit remembered me bringing in my poodle when I was younger and Carmella would cut him. Now, my poodle gets so excited when I tell him we are going to see Carmella and Birgit! Carmella does an outstanding job cutting Stanley and everyone thinks he looks so adorable after his visit. I have a 30 lb goldendoodle who I have been taking to The Complete Dog for 7 years now for grooming. He is groomed every 6 weeks by Carmella who does a beautiful job with doodles. In fact, I get stopped all the time on our walks with comments on how beautiful my dog looks. Since our very first visit, Birgit, the owner, has been welcoming and helpful. I have been bringing my dog here for several years. Briget is the wonderful owner of the salon. She and her employees are so very friendly and professional. I like the fact that the dogs are not caged and get to play and interact with all sorts of other dogs. It is good social interaction and makes for a less stressful pet afterward. This place is in complete disarray! The other reviews ,I have to suspect are in regards to employees who were very nice. However, the owner ( who also grooms) is rude and it was obvious the dogs are no more then a business to her. My dogs were shaking uncontrollably as she grabbed one of them and told me "you know small dogs are hard to cut." I've owned small dogs for over 20 years collectively and never heard that before. Also my dogs are sweet and mild mannered. Note that she never groomed them before saying this. She charges more for grooming " hard to groom dogs" SO I REALIZED SHE WAS SETTING ME UP! The CASH only is always a bad sign because you have no recourse if you have a problem. That actually tells a lot about her right there. Please if you love your dog don't go here, there are plenty of other places who have confidence in their work who won't ask for CASH ONLY. read more

CASH ONLY. So my dog has a minor anal glad issue that needs to be cleaned every four-to-six weeks. We already went to two vets to learn that's all she needs and that meds won't help. Well after moving to IL from FL I couldn't find a vet or groomer that would do the cleaning without a full exam or grooming, which was never less than $60 total. Finally I found Complete Dog who had no problem doing the cleaning and nothing else for $10 (what we paid back in FL). I was really glad to find this place because not only did they do the service I wanted by the women working there were incredibly friendly, interested in my dog, and clearly care about all the dogs they had there. One lady showed a lot of honest concern when I told about my dog's dramatic past that we rescued her from. I wasn't prepared to pay cash only but they had no problem with me leaving for the bank. I obviously returned to pay because I want to be able to bring my pup here again. read more

Let me start out by saying i would give it a -5 if they had that rating. i came here because of the 5 star rating, and a nice girl who answered the phone. When i pulled in front of the store i saw signs pasted all over the windows "walk your dogs before entering", then there were signs pasted all over the windows CASH ONLY. As i entered dogs were barking and the atmosphere was uncontrolled and very messy. I asked for the person i spoke with on the phone and an very pompous lady with a horrible attitude approached and said i will take your dogs. I then replied i would like to speak with the girl i originally spoke with ,her reply was I'm the owner and you can tell me what you want very arrogantly . I have 2 small dogs a 3 lb yorkie and a 4 lb shiz tsu. She said you know small dogs are very hard to groom, my dogs are 9 years and 2 years old, and i have never heard that from any groomer. I don't know what her problems are, but i took my dogs and left. I would stay far away from this place if she is the owner and treats people this way i can only imagine how she treats the dogs. read more

I have been taking my dogs to The Complete Dog since 1999. They are always well groomed and comfortable there. My border collie loved all the interaction with the other dogs and looked beautiful when she was done. Our 25 lb. rescue is more shy, and Birgit has a dog house in the enclosed area where she can hang out until it's her turn for spa day. Love this place! read more
