I heard many positive reviews about Dog Barber 2 so I decided to give them a try. Like so many dog owners, I'm very fussy about how they cut, trim etc. I wasn't disappointed. As a matter of fact, my visit was probably one of the best overall grooming of my dog Scooter EVER! Scooter is a Lhasa Apso with very dense fur and requires alot of work and patience. This place is fantastic. We originally took our Wheaten Terrier, Riley here because we read some of the good online reviews. In fact, this was the first groomer Riley went to once we got him as a puppy. We took him here a few times, and they were always consistent, Riley always had the perfect puppy cut, and he was always happy afterwards. Our first time there they even gave us a full tour of the place - they truly take pride in their business. Then one day we decided to go to a place which was closer to our house in Palatine - bad move. Riley came out with a super short haircut and his hair was uneven in certain places, and he seemed a little timid. We actually gave that groomer another chance and the same thing happened. So, long story short, we will never take Riley anywhere else except to Dog Barber 2 from now on. The ladies are so friendly, Riley is so excited to get there as soon as we walk in the door, and they do a fantastic job EVERY TIME. Great job Dog Barber 2! This would be the third time I brought my cat for grooming. First two times everything went very good except this last time will be the LAST time I take him there. My cat is very laid back, truly not like you would expect. Never bites, scratches, or anything for that matter. When I picked him up his cut wasn't very good. I was told he bit one of the girls there. Did they show us the bite? No. The lady yelled and threatened to give us the medical bills for the girl that got bit by him. Also, he had a blanket on his head, well of course they pissed him off. I can't speak for dogs, but for cats this would be the worst place for it. They clearly give dogs more of a special treatment. Also, no need to put a sheet on him, then he can't breathe then I really wouldn't blame him for biting anyone. I would too if I couldn't breathe. read more

Yesterday I picked my dog up from this place (which has been our regular place) and he was panting, almost like having a seizure or panic attack all the way home. I gave him a drink when we got home but it took him quite a whole to settle down. I don't know what happened to make him this way. The system at this place is that you make an appointment on a certain day, and then you bring the dog as early as you can so that they don't have to wait in the line. They open at 6:20am, so this can be an inconvenience, but yesterday I got him there just before 6:20 and they still had another guy ahead of us. I had a medical appointment in town at 12, do they promised to do what they could to get him back to me quickly although the first suggestion was that he would be ready by 11. I can't feed him at that time of day because he will need to poo. So the suggestion of leaving him in a place from 6:20 until 11 without feeding really isn't good for any dog, but it's especially not good for a dog of my dog's age, given that he has had health problems all year. I did get him back a little after 9, which is OK (and remember I was there at opening time). But then to have him so upset at home I decided you know what? He doesn't have to put up with this at his age. So I found another place, talked with the woman on the phone and was happy with what I heard. I had two choices after I had this experience. Either not say anything, or give feedback that might be useful for their business. I opted to call, but because I used the word "treatment" the owner said that I was being insulting and that everyone in her shop loves dogs and she loves dogs and so to say that they are treating dogs badly is insulting. She also said it would have been better not to have given her the feedback at all. OK, no feedback. Got it. Again, I am not saying that the "treatment" of my dog while he was actually being groomed was bad. I wouldn't know that, although I suspect that something may have happened yesterday to make my dog upset. However when you have a system that requires unfed dogs to wait in line without a chance to poop, a system where the owners have to race each other to get there (and then feel guilty because my getting there before the other guy in line meant his dog had to wait).... That's not great treatment of animals. Dogs aren't humans - and they shouldn't have to wait in a social security office like humans who can always chew on a candy bar or go to the toilet. I'm sorry if this small business owner doesn't like feedback. But when she said "Have a nice day" to me at the end of our phone call, it was with a tone of disgust and hatred that really has no place in customer service. The two stars is for the actual cut, and the actual groomer who always had a smile. read more

My dog is over 15 years old and not too easy to groom I thought I would take a chance around the corner from my house. I called Dog Barber 2. I spoke with Cindy and she couldn't be any nicer and concerned about my elderly dog. I got a grooming appointment the very next day and I met Kimmy at first and she was warm and welcoming. She was very thorough about my dogs needs and health issues. Cindy called me to let me know they were running later because they thought my dog needed a break. I felt that was so kind and considerate of her. She wanted to make sure my dog had a calming great experience. When I returned to pick up my dog I found a happy well groomed dog and Cindy and Kimmy stated he did better than I said he would. Kimmy and Cindy were fantastic and I am so grateful and fortunate that I found Dog Barber 2 right under my nose and didn't even know it. I know it NOW and thank you Cindy and Kimmy for making my dog look fantastic and happy. He is also attached to the new toy you gave him!! She sent me a two paragraph long rant, which included this, "Perhaps if you weren't so cheap you would have your vet do the nails and make it a bit more relaxed by sedating your MEAN CAT." A) That is both rude and unprofessional. B) Sedating a cat every time you need to trim its nails would be terrible for the cat's health. C) We have taken the cat to a wonderful groomer every few weeks for years to get its nails trimmed without incident. Unfortunately for us, she was on vacation last week, which is the only reason we even set foot in this establishment. Sending angry emails to anyone who leaves you a bad review is a pretty shortsighted way to do business. read more

I been going here with many different pets. I start going here with my cat Crystal. which was a long hair cat. To get her a hair cut they always did a great job. Then my dad dog Buddy was going to a different groomer. which swear to God was tranquilizing my brother. When he was getting groomed. He was coming home all drug up and space cadet. Means I would go get him and took him to the Dog Barber 2 and they let me stay with him. They did a great job with Buddy. He would aways go him in a great mood. Then we start to take Rosie to them and she was a pain when I give her a bath. But she alway was very well behaved for them. Means Rosie kept going to them thank you Dog Barber 2. Now my new best friend Brownie goes to them and he get a beautiful makeover they treat him like a king. Thank you to Cindy she has always made it very easy to get appointment when I need one. Thiers was one time Brownie could not get appointment. And we had to take Brownie somewhere else. He made sure that we knew he was piss at us all day. First off, I have an 10 pound maybe 11 pound Yorkie. Small dog right? I asked for all basics, a bath, trim, nails, teeth. The usual for a dog right? This lady charged me $52. She said he'd be around $35... She also quoted me for my 50 pound German Shepherd mix at $60-65. Wait so an 11 pound dog is basically the same as a 50 pound per grooming? How does that make sense. I am completely speechless that I was charged $52 for an 11 pound dog to be groomed and will never be going back. I'm new to the area and thought I found a good place closer to home for my dogs. Nope. I will be driving the extra half hour to get my dogs groomed from now on. My groomer in Gurnee charges $25 for an 11 pound dog and $45 for a 50. WAY MORE REASONABLE! Went here for the first time a few months ago. They open early on weekends and I was able to drop Molly off at 745 am. She was ready and I picked her up at 915 am! She's a Yorkie and very shy, but seemed to have done ok going to a new groomer. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. As a new patron your pet gets a toy their first visit. Very friendly people! My dog has always been afraid of going to the barber, but he was considerably less so when we brought him here. He got a toy for it being his first time there. The thing I really appreciate was that the barber brought to attention his bloated stomach. We are aware he has a health condition that causes it, but as first-time dog owners, had our vet not told us, we would not have known. I am so happy that I took terry here. This huge store is filled with very happy professionals and not the inexperienced people that you find at many of the chain stores. With the amount of dogs being serviced you would think there would be here everywhere but it is very clean and does not have that wet dog odor. I brought my two small dogs here for a few years, and was generally satisfied, but in 2016 Cindy called me while my dogs were there to tell me they had noticed a scratch on one of my dog's eyes. I brought him immediately to the vet- and sure enough, after an (expensive) ultraviolet test, it was determined to be a brand new scratch, requiring expensive drops and follow-up care. I let Cindy know, who denied any responsibility, which I couldn't prove, but she offered to groom that dog for free next time. When I expressed expecting this grooming for no charge 3 months later, she denied remembering saying this. I now see that someone else experienced the very same scratched eye injury to their dog at this shop in 2018, so I regret not reporting it at the time. Now, more recently, in March 2019, this same shop somehow cut the "armpit" of my other little dog so deeply that it required stitches. However, rather than notifying ne immediately, Cindy informed me that she had closed the wound with "Nu Skin," without my consent, to stop the bleeding. Needless to say, this, too, required a vet bill for an exam, antibiotics and follow-up. Needless to say, I finally learned my lesson and won't be bringing my dogs back there. read more

I've been a very loyal customer. Last time I took my dog in they nicked her ear. The owner gave me her cell phone number in case I had issues. I did have an issue - I couldn't get the bleeding to stop. I left her two voice mails and never got a call back. I asked her not to cash the check I left because I the bleeding made quite a mess in my house. She didn't call back and DID cash the check. She lost my TWO dogs. Just bad business. read more

I have brought our dog here a few times now, over the last 2-3 years. However, after what they did to our poor Ally girl yesterday, we will never bring her here again. First off, we just wanted Ally to get a bath and sanitary trim, not a full cut, but they ended up giving her a full cut (and charged me for it) when I explicitly told them not to do a full cut/groom on her. Now for the worst part, while she was being groomed they scratched her left eye, the vet calls it a cornea ulceration. We had to do a dye test at the vet office to confirm and the vet showed me how big the scratch was under the UV light. They scratched her eye the entire length of the eye ball all the way across, at the top of her cornea. Ally is randomly crying out in pain all night, even with the pain medication the vet prescribed. We also have to give her prescription eye drops 3 times a day, meaning that I had to take off work today to be able to do that. Lastly, I called the dog barber and left a message describing what they did to our dog and asking how it happened and why no one told me it happened and still, no one has called me back.
